Hello everyone!! I'm Claudio, Instructional Tech Coordinator from @DvilleTech I'll be your moderator for tonight! My favorite toy growing up was anything Star Wars. More specifically the Millennium Falcon! #HCPSTeach#creativity
John Bimmerle from Sulphur Springs Texas. Connecting tonight from Six Flags over Texas theme park (some tweets are scheduled). Excited to hear what this great group has to share on creativity in the classroom #HCPSTeach
A1 defining creativity is like trying to describe colors to someone who's been blind from birth. You can try, but you'll never get it quite right. #HCPSTeach
A1 Creativity in edu is all about T's, S's and others willingness to explore original/new/imaginative ideas. Making learning about more than worksheets and lectures. Providing choices, and creating a passion for lifelong learning. #HCPSTeach
A1 To me, creativity is finding ways and resources to think and do things outside of the box... out of the norm... and not afraid to try or faul. #hcpsteach
A2 Some people are just naturally creative - This one gets me every time. Creativity is not something you are born with, you get inspired through many avenues. Look for opportunities to connect the world with learning, they are everywhere - collaboration fuels it too #HCPSTeach
A2 Biggest misconception is that you are born with it. Creativity is a way of approaching anything in life from art to problem solving. You can be creative without realizing it. You can learn creativity if you want to. #HCPSTeach
A2: I have found that one of the biggest misconceptions in exploring creativity is that you have to be an artsy. Some of the most innovative kids and teachers I know are super linear. Creative thinking comes from every type of learner!! #hcpsteach
Boo...we cant get internet to connect.. truing a new location...Winter break starts we headed to Six Flags Over Texas, but wanted to visit a bit about creativity and share this #EduWonderland thanks #passthescopeEDU and #hcpsteach for a great year, and happy New year to all.
A2 Misconception: Only artistic people can be creative... I'm lucky if I can draw a stick figure, but definitely can have some creative moments and ideas! Important for our Ss to know they all have creativity inside them! #hcpsteach

A2: Misconception of creativity...just like everyone is saying...only certain people have it! Feeling free and knowing it's okay to go beyond! Love seeing others go beyond norm to stretch their capabilities! #HCPSTeach

#hcpsteach @Michlle@EDU, @Mrjosezero Creativity applies to every aspect of life...even with K we discuss that the reason we come to school is to learn skills to solve problems so we can make life better for ourselves and others - it is the catalyst for all we do
"There's no use trying," Alice said: "one can't believe impossible things." ... The Queen said: "When I was your age, I always did it for half-an-hour a day. Why, sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast." #HCPSTeach
#passthescopeEDU#EduWonderland#HCPSTeach bummed my Internet isn't playing nice. Tested earlier but no go on a broadcast. We will share next month. Have a great holiday and happy New year.
Q3: Children have an extraordinary capacity for imagination, play, & innovation, and aren’t afraid to try things and make mistakes. How can we harness that creativity? #HCPSTeach
A3 Genius Hour/Maker spaces/ student choice are all great ways to foster creativity in students. A growth mindset understanding is also vital in my opinion. #HCPSTeach
A3 by HS, many of my sts only want to “play school” ... sadly most have lost their curiosity in search of the “right answer” ... moving to standards-based grading allows me to provide more options #HCPSTeach

A3: Hang out with Kindergartners! Watch, watch, watch - listen, listen, listen they will show you how to live a life that is:
- resilient
-flexible
-vunerable, transparent
-open minded
-open minded
-growth mindset
-joyfilled
-CREATIVE
#hcpsteach
A3 Remind them every day our class is a safe place to be as creative as they want! Show them our own creativity, model and discuss ways we can be creative in and out of the classroom. Let them lead and have say with what they want to do! #hcpsteach
A3: cultivating and sustaining creativity is about safe spaces to work and think. As teachers we create that realm when we cherish the gifts, strengths and areas of growth for each individual student. We have to see their creative spirits. #hcpsteach
A3 Table top role playing games. I've used them for years with kids of various ages/abilities to teach a wide range of skills. Making learning into a narrative game breeds creativity. #HCPSTeach
A3.2 Recognizing creativity in unusual forms. Everything from seeing an unusual solution to a problem to hearing the logic of a wrong answer. Creativity doesn't have to be right; it just needs to be recognized. #HCPSTeach
We need room for more innovation in our schools. Which means more experimenting, risk-taking and failures, while recognizing that sometimes failure in itself is the success #hcpsteach
Q3: Children have an extraordinary capacity for imagination, play, & innovation, and aren’t afraid to try things and make mistakes. How can we harness that creativity? #HCPSTeach
A3: Create an environment where the creative is applauded not squashed - something that I see happen in math often. My favorite way to do this is provide open-ended assessments... "How do you want to show me you learned the info?" They come up with some AMAZING stuff #hcpsteach
A3: (part 2) safe spaces more tangibly mean- places to paint, puzzles out for the whole class to build, reading corners, building centers, tinkercad and sketch up on devices and lightbulb labs for writing! #hcpsteach
A3. Collaboration is such a great tool for creativity. Take a creation and discuss pos / neg. How can we improve. Ss are wonderful at this given the right framework. #hcpsteach
A4 Pfft! What can't it support? If you can't make something more creative with technology then you need to check your own creativity levels because the tank is running low. #HCPSTeach
A4 Things like @PlayCraftLearn are great starting points. But traditional tech can also easily be used in creative ways. Let students explore a new tool and determine how it could benefit their classroom activities. Be open to uses you never imagined. #hcpsteach
A4. One of my favorite projects is to have Ss create DESMOS art to recreate their favorite piece. It’s wonderful for teaching about domain and range restrictions. #hcpsteach
A4: Technology can be used as one option - it needs to be a natural extension (intuitive) as not to block the creative flow, it needs to be fun to use, flexible and open, and available to all levels of tech comfort.
Not a mandatory expectation but an invitation.
#hcpsteach
A3: Building relationships with s. that will help us to see small glimpses of their passions and listening to their ‘voices’! And taking advantage of that knowledge to incorporate creative opportunities in our lessons as often as possible! #hcpsteach
A4 Examples: 1) Erase the words from Comic Book word balloons and have the kids fill them in by inference/context clues.
2) Have them use @ScratchJr to program a presentation rather than PPT.
3) Let them show you something cool. They'll amaze you.
#HCPSTeach
A4: digital inking, canva, adobe, videos galore (snip, mix, movie maker, flipgrid), doink, ppt, sway, etc. etc. etc. Technology is taking with this generation knows and allowing it to mix with creativity in such a beautiful way! #hcpsteach
A4: I have moved away from digitizing paper to gradual release - i.e. Classkick -- show a couple of examples, then leave blank pages in assignment for the students to create.
Dev. need to add more audio features and annotate/video so student can share thinking.
#hcpsteach
A4 So many Ss feel so comfortable with technology these days... they are probably more likely to do something new because of the interest they have with their device and go out of their comfort zone and BAM... an increase in their creativity! 💥#hcpsteach
This is when my creativity shines! 🤓 problem solving + tech = creativity ♥️ give kids a real world problem, the internet (optional Adobe anything ☺️), they will show you just how creative they can be #hcpsteach
A4: The opportunity to use tech is such an added benefit to us and to the s. I find they all know more then me and when they get the chance to ‘create’ utilizing invaluable tech resources they teach each other AND me in the process! #realreciprocalteaching#hcpsteach
Here's some creativity from today! Student needed something to hold the camera when making his Flipgrid... so he got two trash cans from the table groups and made his own camera holder! Worked great! #hcpsteach
A5 NOT SHOW A MOVIE! I'm challenging the kids to find an upcycling project for all the holiday waste. They will get to showcase their designs when we return. #HCPSTeach
Are you familiar with the app Classkick? @Classkick@ClaudioZavalaJr?
Think hyperdoc - meets Khan Academy where T's and S'scan hop see and on demand hop to each user's screen to comment, help, etc. AMAZING app. Surprised that more T's don't know about it. #hcpsteach
A5 I am planning for Q3 — going to look for more opportunities to involve tech to show mastery of standards - def use of my wall / white boards #HCPSTeach
Awesomeness! Now imagine if another teacher had given student an iphone holder or stand. That opportunity for creative problem solving...out the window!! Kudos Brittany for supporting creativity!! #hcpsteach
A5: Get s. to create a project that helps to explain what they did over the long break - sharing new things they learned.. about anything.. anyway they can think of! #choice#HCPSTeach
A5 We have finals tomorrow so it will be “teach Mrs Leist a new tech tip” in the few minutes left over. They always know the latest greatest for social media and can be a wealth of information #HCPSTeach
A5: Ensure that our classroom is a place of acceptance, respect and free of judgment - every voice is welcome, exploration, curiosity is not graded but applauded. Make the time and space and get out of the way. And lead by example by entering into the creativity. :) #hcpsteach
I read a lot of comics. Look at comics from @boomstudios They have a wide range of comics for all ages with great representation and few cheesy gimmicks. They are my favorite publisher overall. #HCPSTeach
In reply to
@SylviaEllison, @ScratchJr, @boomstudios
Yesssssss. I had to constantly bite my tongue. I also had to let go of things being “perfect” and accept the way they are is exactly how they are suppose to be. #hcpsteach
Thanks for a great chat on Creativity @ClaudioZavalaJr and @HcpsTeach you guys are the best when it comes to this topic! Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year everyone!!!! #HCPSTeach
This is the BEST thing from my week. Seeing all of my 3️⃣1️⃣ schools get creative on how they were going to survive the last week before break! #hcpsteach
