A1 - low-tech makerspace activities my Ss loved was finger knitting
A1: My favorite low-tech activity is quilting. One of my ES does this, then auctions the quilt for more supplies!
Q1 Please share your favorite low-tech maker space lessons/activities.
Rube Goldberg challenges are my personal favorite.
A1 fav low tech producing S's producing products 4 assignments that require them to stretch minds on how 2 accomplish @home
A1: Fav low tech project was bookmark coloring contest
A1 Origami. I did fish after we read the book Gone Fishing. Kids loved it too.
A1: a fave in my library is "make a bookmark." All you need is yardstick and washi tape
not yet! 1st yr & had maker challenge 1st week of school. :)Has also done tallest paper tower w/ newspaper.
So far my HS students gravitate to games, the Zome set and k'nex.
We had a great time making our own cardboard arcade. Inspired by Caine's Arcade on YouTube.

Cup-stacking challenge is a great low-tech activity that works great with our youngest makers

A1 My MS Ss also LOVED kinetic sand. haven't tried it yet with my HS.
A1: 6th graders love the lego wall.
I think guidelines are good for any Makerspace...not so much step-by-step instructions
I have Ps saving cardboard rolls, but wasn't sure what MS would do with them. This is it!
Mine love puzzles. I had to bring some from home because the finish 5 the first nine weeks of school!

I think it is important to delineate between crafts with predetermined outcomes and open-ended activities with original outcomes.

We have straws that come with jacks to connect them. I don't know what they are called but they love them! I just got io blocks
A2 Just getting started w/ my HS group but for starters they REALLY enjoy the robots. Hoping 2design obstacle courses.
we have a puzzle area. Not as much traffic as games, but there are usually a few students there.
I did that too with my 5th graders for a genius hour activity. Shared with school. It was great!
We tried making mazes for sphero and Dash today in coding. Super Fun!
WISD librarians are putting together a district resource of maker activities tied to standards. Work in progress!
Shared with me yesterday-ask people to save 12 pack sofa boxes, cover them with paper & make a huge Jenga set! Working on this ❤️

A3: I have a cart - My mobile makerspace that I roll in and roll out!
A2 Appsmashing videos, green screen. Makeymakey, littlebits. Want to do more with these as well as more with coding & robotics.
Did a digital camp for elem s's. Gave them iPods to shoot pics at a zoo. They created movies with photos and research conducted.

We took an old storage room and made it into Technology Room. All supplies are stored in the room.
I want to do more cardboard activities. Have plenty of it.
They overlook the games...except Jenga...for puzzles. They have started bringing in requests for certain ones.
I plan on putting in 2 Lego walls on wheels rolling over set of shelves filled w/low-tech maker baskets. Have supplies, need time

At the end of camp, we had a premiere complete with the Red Carpet. All created by the kids. <3

A2: High tech my Elem Ss ❤️ed: our robots! SPRK, Dash and Dot, and BB-8 were faves!
A2: The kids love the Ozobot that our coordinator got us.
Q4 Not yet, but I plan to have something ready for open house! Ideas welcome!

Q4 - We hold quarterly contests for all ages; prizes to best/most creative projects; judging becomes a show-and-tell
A3. Still working on this, but my student assistants are a huge help...that and purging the unnecessary items.
A4: we have a STEAM family night coming up where I plan on showcasing my makerspace activities
A3: I cleared out reference section and put my makerspace stuff on shelves. It looks better than on a table. We had too much stuff
Waving at ! I brought our to a teacher workshop on creativity at a play table-they loved them
MakeyMakey acts as a computer input. Raspberry Pi is a full-fledged computer.
A4: Would love to hold a district-wide Maker Faire!
We got some great starter kits for our spaces from . Gave everyone a place to start.

we did an Night last December which focused on coding activities but also included maker activities.

A4:I forgot we do have a district maker creator challenge at our annual Steamposium. Last year I had 4 kids enter their inventions

Our HS librarian does it during "Mega Lunch". Hour long period for lunch, clubs, etc

A fun Makerspace activity is a Found Poem, the way Robyn Hood Black () does it w/pages from old books & rubber stamps!
