A slow chat intended for international educators in Africa and beyond but open to anyone who is interested of course. We chat weekly on Thursdays from August to June starting at 7am GMT and going until whenever.
A1: we have created a digital learning framework based on the @iste standards for students with direct links to curriculum documentation. Teachers need to know that it is NOT extra, they are doing a lot of this stuff anyway #AfricaEd
A1: we have used the @iste standards for students as a base of our digital learning model with the 7 standards scaffolded across 3 years k-12. This year our focus areas are Digital Citizen and Global Collaborator at #SAISrocks#AfricaEd
A2: none are challenging to us but the one that is the most complex to integrate effectively is computational thinker / this is next years focus as we aim to develop a K-12 computational thinkin curriculum #AfricaEd@iste
A3: We are lucky with curriculum support but the most challenging part is investing in Teachers! Dedicating time to support Teachers and train them on the standards and what this looks like in their classrooms - our model is slowly helping this #AfricaEd
A4: we use @CommonSense as our core digital citizenship resource and last year we created a structured K-12 #digcit curriculum and rolled it out this academic year. @techstarteacher is the expert and lead on this project so can probably add more details here #AfricaEd
A1: Ts need to be coached rather than trained. Ts need to become aware of the relevance and necessity of tech being incorporated into student learning.
#AfricaEd
A4: we also run programs for parents to support their learning. Our most successful is “Social Media and our teen” run by our middle and high school students, supported by @MsDayinMS and designed for parents! Read more here: https://t.co/tZG9yvMX5q#AfricaEd

A1. Many Ts are fearful of technology, and I think for the more hesitant Ts, you find 1 or 2 tech uses and support them in using them in a class. In this case, Less can be More! #AfricaEd#ISTE
#AfricaEd A1: our Ss are digital generation, I advice my colleagues to join #MicrosoftEdu and #eTwinning to learn how to be up to date and how to use 21st century skills in their classrooms, sometimes Ss know more than Ts about how to use technology

A1: It’s been a slow start, but slowly working on mapping ISTE Standards to curriculum via our curriculum documentation platform (Atlas). More work needed! #AfricaEd
A1. Any school doing the IB already addresses these standards, but it is also about helping Ts be more comfortable with the use of tech in their lessons. #AfricaEd#IB#ISTE

A1: strong support from an admin, coach, team or cohort helps! Intentional planning of objectives, backward planning and a careful consideration of when tech might add value, disrupt or enhance is key. #AfricaEd
