A2 Diamond- My teenage son
A diamond must endure extreme heat & pressure to form the crystals that make it sparkle from all angles.
Likewise, my boy will one day realize these teen years are simply forming the diamond within to shine, even brighter, in this world!
#tlap
Club. I got punched in the nose today! Sometimes kids have hard lives & the pain blasts out of them in violence. Today, my face was in the way of that anger. #tlap
A2. A Diamond represents how the students who gave me the greatest challenges also provided the most significant learning experiences in our classroom. They had the innovation/creativity to think outside the box and changed our approach to learning. #tlap
A2 I am amazed at the wayour students in leadership roles really put their heart into doing for others without the need for being recognized for it. #tlap
A2: The heart. As a teacher, I poured my heart into my job to make a difference in my students. As an Tech Coach, I pour my heart into helping teachers ignite digital learning strategies. #tlap
A2: spade. Sometimes I let students dig themselves into a hole so they can experience the wrong way to do something. No worries, kids: I've got a nice long ladder I can lower down there to get you out. #tlap
A2: many many diamonds in the rough. We are all diamonds. We just need a bit of polishing and some love from someone who cares. Be the one who cares! #kidsdeserveit#tlap
Club. I got punched in the nose today! Sometimes kids have hard lives & the pain blasts out of them in violence. Today, my face was in the way of that anger. #tlap
A2: Spade ♠️- I think of myself as a shovel; helping to dig students out of the dip of having a fixed mindset... encouraging and nurturing them to be learners who will change the world! #TLAP@burgessdave@tamaraletter@TaraMartinEDU
A2: even the most challengingly kids have a HEART of gold if you delve within to find it...build a strong relationship, teach with love, support unconditionally! #tlap
A2: Hmmm. Notice you don't have a Joker on there. :) I'm going w/Spade. Some Ss require a different type of tool to dig down to what matters so that learning can grow. #tlap
A1: I will always remember a certain student who was a "diamond in the rough." I knew he had potential and continued to pour into him even after he moved on from my class. Never forget that all diamonds need time to transform from deep within! #tlap
Q2: You must have ♥️with all the children. Sometimes you will find a 💎in the rough that goes unnoticed. All cards ♠️♣️🃏♦️♥️in the deck are important and deserve care. #tlap
A2: When you lead with your HEART then you make connections to people. The Golden Heart has been at the root of all that we do and all that is good about our schools #tlap
A2: My Ss have my heart! Absolutely love living in the community I teach and seeing my Ss serve in the community years after they've left my class. So special!! #tlap
A2: The heart speaks to me because I put my heart and soul into all that I do. Even after my students left my 2nd grade classroom, I never stopped being invested in their moments. As a leader, I often wear my heart on my sleeve but I care so much about what I do! #TLAP
A2- clubs! Middle schoolers are always looking to be in the club/group/clique and you can use that for good. Once they feel like they're in on something special they're very loyal and work their butts off, and they will show tolerance for everyone else in the "club". #tlap
A2 I chose the love card because I always try to show my students that I care. Also for those tricky students it helps to build a relationship by finding something you love about them. #tlap
A2: “Calling a spade a spade:” I think about the student who other teachers warned me about because of “behavior issues.” Turns out the S is advanced, and acts out when he’s bored 🤷🏼♀️ He’s the top S in my class, and now coaches other Ss. When we prejudge, we miss the magic. #tlap
A2: Heart: I didn’t think I made an impact, really got to the heart of that kid as a first grader but as a fifth grader, he’s showing me I did 😭😭😭❤️ #TLAP
A2 I would pick the club. Last year I started a “club” of guys called the Positive Dogs. We do a book study on positive leadership, focusing on how they can positively impact our school community. Started round 2 this year with 25 new guys. Proud of them! #TLAP
A2: Hearts - I think all teaching and learning has to start with the heart. When I think about the students that I've had the opportunity to teach, I also think about the fact I was able to truly love who they are, even when it's hard. #tlap
A2: I did the research real quick: https://t.co/HpHKmPc8sv
So I'm like a spade, transforming learning by using what I've learned through life experiences. #tlap
A2: Mine is the heart! ❤❤ I have a whole classroom of heart this year. each day they spread kindness to others and put their whole heart into everything they do!! One of the kindest groups I have ever taught. If you need a hug my room is the place. They are huggers! #tlap
A2: The Spade. ♠️
The student who appears to have the sharpest and roughest edges, often has not been shown they have the tools and advantage, to dig deeper than others. Sometimes it’s about showing students what you KNOW of them - not just what is SEEN! #tlap
A2 Hearts- So many of the Ss that come to me steal my heart. They come due to behaviors but we bond and form such strong relationships. Wish Ts could take the time to sit with them like I can. I just love them! I don’t see their behaviors, it’s just the heart! #tlap
Clover... everyone is looking for the four leaf clover. I tell my kids to create their own luck through effort and attitude. Instead of counting on superstition, I want them to always believe that the best will happen, then create the circumstances to make it happen. #tlap
Fine! Interesting experience. I've always worked with "tough" kiddos. Wasn't the first time I've been hit and it won't be the last. Thanks! You are kind! #tlap
A2: Diamond.
Sometimes we can't see what makes our Ss so special until we really get to know them. Takes a while to uncover that diamond in the rough. That's why we must build relationships #tlap
A2: The ♥️ reminds me of my former S named Henry who passed from cancer!! He taught me so much as a 1st grader about living each day to the fullest & being grateful for the time we have! He LOVED life & lost it way too soon! He inspires me daily to lead with my ♥️! #TLAP
A2: Ss are like diamonds, each unique, they shine so bright. Some need to be repolished at times, but they can all sparkle when the light hits them! #tlap
A2: A few days ago, a student who has spent a lot of time in my office, went up to another student who had gotten hurt in the playground and stayed with him until help came. That kid may have “issues,” but he has HEART. That kid cares. #tlap
A2. One of my students has the biggest heart. Although he struggles academically he gives 110% to every assignment, every test, everything! This is especially impressive since he had a traumatic early childhood. He is all ❤️ #Tlap
A2 I would have to say Clubs. Because I am often amazed that the ones I feel like I am constantly butting heads with, are the ones that surprise me the most. #tlap
A2: the “club” is a 3 leaf clover, this represents a student who wasn’t just 🍀 lucky, but worked hard & wanted to learn but had some road blocks & trauma. With encouragement, support & love the student turned things around! #tlap
A2: Heart. I have a student who read 1 word a minute at beginning of 3rd grade. He is now mid 4th Reading 46 cwpm at 100% accuracy on DIBELs. He is so happy and on fire to learn even more. He has my heart. ❤️#tlap
Clover... everyone is looking for the four leaf clover. I tell my kids to create their own luck through effort and attitude. Instead of counting on superstition, I want them to always believe that the best will happen, then create the circumstances to make it happen. #tlap
A2 I have had students that could represent each card—those w/ heart, those that are diamonds, spades that are defensive, & those with a great spirit. I love unearthing a diamond in the rough or uncovering the heart of those who have had it tough—because it empowers them #tlap
A2: The Diamond. Sometimes our students come to us as nothing more than lumps of coal. But, by applying the right "temperatures" and "forces," and by investing in a lot of time, we can transform them into shining exceptional diamonds. #tlap
Q3: Self-care is vital for educators. Choose up to two colors that make you happy and explain why? #tlap (Questions like this can draw out some intriguing and creative answers from students/staff)
A2. Diamonds, Our Ss are unfinished diamonds, learning, growing, becoming individual leaders that will one day be finished diamonds! Can't wait to see who they become! #tlap
A2: Clubs. Very often my favorite Ss to push & grow are the ones who seem to need clubbed over the head the most. 🤣 They are the ones given up on first- and don't think for a second those kids don't know it. I always bet on clubs, and I've yet to be disappointed! ♣️ #tlap
A2:💎💎 My first long term position in a public school: 8th grade student who didn't believe he was worth a teacher's time... By the end of the year he passed almost all tests, I picked up his family and brought them to his 8th grade graduation. His note is still on my desk #tlap
Q3: Self-care is vital for educators. Choose up to two colors that make you happy and explain why? #tlap (Questions like this can draw out some intriguing and creative answers from students/staff)
A2: Spades...namely the Ace of Spades. We encourage our Drama students to operate with this mindset during performances because nothing beats it. Excellence is our standard. @megan_hacholski can verify. #tlap
A3: Green. It represents growth and GO. I am personally giving you the green light to GO after your dreams and GROW in whatever ways are required to achieve them. #tlap
A3 Green is my favorite color. Every shade makes my heart smile!
Yellow- I just love sunny stuff! It brightens my world.
Side Note: My nick name by my dad was “Sunshine”—he always said my smile lit up the whole world.
So...I love me some yellow sunshine, too!
#tlap
A2 I would have to say Clubs. Because I am often amazed that the ones I feel like I am constantly butting heads with, are the ones that surprise me the most. #tlap
A2: Diamonds--Middle school is such a formative time. Students are going through so many changes and under so much pressure. It's always amazing to see how much they grow from 6-8th grade and then through high school.#TLAP p
Q3: Self-care is vital for educators. Choose up to two colors that make you happy and explain why? #tlap (Questions like this can draw out some intriguing and creative answers from students/staff)
A2 Working in diverse communities & across the school - each child is a diamond - rare and beautiful that show strength of character, abundance of talent & skills in their learning journey & shine brightly each day #tlap
A3: I must say blue as that relaxes me. I think of the ocean! I also think of purple as being a motivated color and that you love no matter win or lose (yep I am thinking of the Vikings. lol) #tlap
Q3: Self-care is vital for educators. Choose up to two colors that make you happy and explain why? #tlap (Questions like this can draw out some intriguing and creative answers from students/staff)
A3: pink and yellow...pink for some reason has always been a favorcolor since childhood and yellow makes me happy, reminds my of sunshine, sunflowers and smiley faces #tlap
A3: My two colors are blue and orange. Blue because it's my favorite color and orange because there are no words that rhyme with it... so that makes me happy! #tlap
A2
The three leaves of a shamrock stand for faith, hope and love ☘
One of the challenging students I ever had showed faith in me and hoped that I would lead him down the right path Years later I found out that he had love in his heart for me for believing in him.
#tlap
Q1: Describe your teaching and/or leadership style. Here's the twist...you can only use the amount of words we rolled on the die. #tlap (use this idea with students and staff and have them roll the dice to add some fun and interest to question activities)
A2 hmm, 4 boys, 4 suits
Heart - my oldest had the first piece of my heart
Club - my second is my rainbow baby who made me lucky after losing twins
Spade & Diamond - I had another set of twins, spade keeps me sharp while diamond reminds me that hard moments can be beautiful
#tlap
These stories make me appreciate the role we play in Ss lives. We have the power to create joy in their days. We can create opportunities for them to laugh and maybe for just a little while forget about their pain. These kids are true heroes. ❤️ #tlap
A3: I like blue because it’s tranquil & serene, it’s the color of creativity... and orange because it’s the color of the sunrise and sunset, especially in the summer... it’s warm & fiery... #tlap
A2: I’m choosing a spade - you need to let Ss dig into the content on their own and grow. I have been using “wonder day” project this year with each unit to let Ss dig into history on their own. #tlap
Q3: Self-care is vital for educators. Choose up to two colors that make you happy and explain why? #tlap (Questions like this can draw out some intriguing and creative answers from students/staff)

Q3: Self-care is vital for educators. Choose up to two colors that make you happy and explain why? #tlap (Questions like this can draw out some intriguing and creative answers from students/staff)
A3: blue, cuz it's calming. Reminds me of distant mountains and a clear day. Gonna be a jerk and also choose black. I love a dark room and a dark night. Feels cozy. #tlap
A3: Red and yellow. Red is my favorite color because it reminds me of Christmas, love, and being bold! Yellow because it reminds me of sunshine which comes out even after a storm and can sometimes reveal a rainbow! #tlap
A2) I recently told a new teacher in my building some advice which was “Don’t let anyone use scare tactics on you!” We share a partition, wall and I overheard a senior teacher tell him he may get moved. So I’m calling a spade a ♠️ #Tlap
Green and red! They remind me of Christmas- the true holiday of Christ, kindness, giving, and love! When I think of Christmas (no matter what time of the year), my spirits are lifted high! #tlap
A3: Uellow and blue so I can also make green. I feel my best surrounded by nature. The sun, the skies and oceans, the grass, leaves and trees. These things make me happy and remind me to breathe, to s.l.o.w. down and soak in the moment. #tlap
A3: I like white because it represents a blank slate. Every day is a new day & we have the power to fill it with whatever we’d like.
I like blue because it makes me smile. The color of the sky. Infinite possibilities. #tlap

A4 Beach!
I’d like to lounge on the beach, read a good book & straight up chill in the sun—with SPF 50, of course.
I’d take a ride in sail boat w/the fam & catch some waves on the body boards with my guys!
Then, watch the Elf--outdoors!
Love me some beach time.

A4.) The City icon!
Being able to experience so many ideas, cultures, lifestyles & innovations is INSPIRING and the HEART of my teaching style. Imagine being exposed to something new every day... oh wait! I can bring that to my classroom every morning! 🏙
#tlap
A4: Dream holiday vacation- snowy town or NYC at Christmas time! These two places lift my holiday spirits as I think most of my holiday memories will be made here. #tlap
A4: Blue. Mountains all day. Get me out of the city. Away from push notifications and into nature. Miss the fresh air, peace, and relaxed pace of living. #tlap
a4: I'm a city-born kiddo that LOVES camping out - vacations are for refreshing, give me the tent (without the tent. love sleeping under the stars!) #tlap
A4: Camping. It's my go-to when I need to escape and reconnect with nature and myself. And we're not talking KOA - I camp in remote wilderness areas that help me keep my perspective about my place in tis vast universe. #tlap
A3 PINK which has been my favourite colour forever! I have incredible memories of my boys clinging to this colour, too! 💕 Here’s an old pic of Emmett, who has loved pink ever since he was a baby and would always pick the pink cloth diaper. #tlap
A3 Purple and Yellow make me happy! Yellow reminds me of sunshine which is important to me! I have no window in my classroom, so I have to take sunshine breaks by the windows in the hallway! Purple because it is the color of royalty! #TLAP
Q3: Self-care is vital for educators. Choose up to two colors that make you happy and explain why? #tlap (Questions like this can draw out some intriguing and creative answers from students/staff)
A4: I dream of all of those! Love the mountains, enjoy camping, visiting cities is fun, going tropical is amazing, learning makes me happy. I choose the Wild Card. I'll go anywhere any time for laughs and relaxation #tlap
A4) Just jumping in here! 👋🏾 Nelann in Louisiana! I'm going w/ the WILD CARD!🃏 Always down for whatever,♠️♥️♦️♣️ especially for a dream vacay! Shake it up! YOLO! #tlap
A4 My dream holiday vacation is on the beach with my family and friends. I live in Wisconsin and although I like the seasons, the ocean is my favorite getaway. #tlap
A4: Wild card! I don’t like to dream about the one perfect vacation. I dream about my daily life and love what I do! That way, when I get a vacation, I could end up anywhere! Embrace the adventure of life! #tlap
A4- I love going new places and I love the city. Where is everyone going in such a hurry? I love guilded age architecture and old churches and seeing all the people, food, culture, etc. I even love subways. Can you tell I'm from NH? #tlap
A4: Although I love them all, I love the beach. Living in winterpeg, I can use all the sun I can get! There’s something about the sound of the waves that’s so mesmerizing. Cuba countdown- 19 days! #tlap
#tlap q4 wild card! Locations and activities do not matter, just the time and finances to do them. Prefer to not have to plan ahead, just pack my bags and go.
A4: Wildcard because I absolutely love to travel. I love the beach and cruises but I also love traveling to large cities and hiking. There’s a book with me wherever I go. SO all of the above! #tlap
Hi, #TLAP fam! I am SO late, but I am here! Anna from San Diego where I am learning a plethora of new ideas this year. Keeping them all in line and attempting to apply everything to my practice is like juggling chainsaws.
A4: I choose the book for a dream holiday vacation - I have never been to Washington DC, Williamsburg, or Jamestown. I would love to visit these places. Last year we went to NYC and I asked to see one thing...... #tlap
A4: ELA nerd answer, but I choose the book. Reading is the cheapest and quickest way to travel to all of those destinations from the comfort of my cozy couch! #tlap
A5: Transformation. Let's TRANSFORM our content/curriculum and make it come ALIVE for students. #tlap is not anti-curriculum nor anti-standards...it is saying that is NOT enough. That's the bare minimum. Let's go further and make it amazing, too.
A3) I'm catching up and answering backwards. I'm going with 🍏 and 🍋as my faves. So, green is calming, gives a soothing, nature vibe. Always been my fave color. And yellow bc... idk, green & yellow were my HS colors. Call me loyal. #CPHSwarriors#tlap
Q3: Self-care is vital for educators. Choose up to two colors that make you happy and explain why? #tlap (Questions like this can draw out some intriguing and creative answers from students/staff)
A5. Relevant - if our learning activities relate to real world experiences our students will be engaged and deep learning will occur. No more wide spread memorization but instead connect to real things. #tlap
A3: ☀️ Yellow instantly makes me happy and think of sunshine and positivity.
💚Green because I think it’s pretty and it’s calming. And I need some of that in my crazy life! #TLAP
Q3: Self-care is vital for educators. Choose up to two colors that make you happy and explain why? #tlap (Questions like this can draw out some intriguing and creative answers from students/staff)
A5: THINK!
How can we get students to do the thinking and spark their inquiry with curiosity (that also ends with a T sound… could curiosity count?) #tlap
A5: Tantalizing! Well, Taboo works too, since having fun can be frowned upon by some, so even if I'm not working the Taboo hook, I'm completely, tantalizingly, TABOO! #tlap
See what I mean? So do the students! We let them explore the site, getting all excited about the different links and such... inevitably one student will be brave with logic and say, “Wait a minute...” 😂 #Tlap
A4: The mountains are my icon. Vacations are for new challenges to conquer. My family origins trace back to Alsace Larraine. I'd love to hike the trails and terrain my ancestors may have (and sample some authentic draughts). #familyhistory#German#tlap
A5 (1): Trial and error. If one engagement strategy doesn’t work, try another! Get to know your kids & pull in their passions to hook them. Be prepared to shift your lesson according to their body language & use that feedback to better your delivery & their learning. #tlap
A5: Tint. Like tinted windows, I see a different shade and perspective than each of my students. Getting them involved in class means sharing my view from the window and learning what their view is, then considering other views we’ve never considered before! #tlap
A5: EncouragemenT comes to mind for me. Teaching a foreign language, students take risks every day to speak in the target language and participate out loud. They won't always be perfect, so it's my job encourage them for their effort. Then they will try again! #TLAP
A5: ExcitemenT and student interesT- how can I get the students excited to learn and create and bring in things that touch on their interests. An amazing hook is essential!! #tlap
A5: Tell a story. My favorite way to teach is through stories - whether they are stories from books or stories from experiences (and sometimes stories I totally make up on the spot). Everyone loves a good story! #tlap
#tlap I’m late!! I’m an instructional coach from Northern California. I’m feeling sick. I blame my toddler who pretty much blew snot on my face. #momLife
A5: Teamwork!!! Love creating lessons that require Ss to collaborate & work together!! Not only does it review academic standards but it encourages social skills!!! #tlap
A5: Teamwork or Technology... these two methods of instruction provide power in student learning. Students build life skills and become 21st-century learners through the tools offered in technology and teamwork skills acquired in cooperative learning activities. #tlap
A5 Easy.....tricks! Start of with something amazing, trick them into learning by providing experiences over lessons! Today, we played with magnets and I tricked them into learning about magnetic fields! #tlap
#tlap q5 TEACHER it’s up to the teacher to set the stage and create the environment that encourages student engagement. When my Ss aren’t engaged that is on me!
A5: Transport. (20 bonus points for starting and ending with a T)
I want to transport my students to new experiences, new places, meet new people etc... #tlap
#TLAP A5. TRUSTT. It is the building block of a strong relationship and the foundation for learning. The extra T is for Tenacious. B/c sometimes it takes tenacity to gain and give Trust.
Purple! Color of royalty and makes me feel whole. Reminds me of my gpa. All of his racecars were painted purple. #83G White! Clean and simple. Purity. Knowing that the slate can be wiped clean the next day. #tlap
Q3: Self-care is vital for educators. Choose up to two colors that make you happy and explain why? #tlap (Questions like this can draw out some intriguing and creative answers from students/staff)
A5: This one made me think... Commitment. Commitment to building strong relationships, commitment to digging deeper, and a commitment to keep trying new things since Ss needs change daily! #tlap
A4b - I do love beaches, but I can't sit still for more than about 20 minutes without a task so I drive my companions crazy organizing shells, finding crabs, people watching, stealing all the snacks, etc. I have so much sympathy for antsy students! #tlap
A5: Relevant. I see you, @MathDenisNJ. If we are not making learning experiences real for our students, we cannot expect them to buy-in to what we are selling. #tlap
A5: Timely. Students do not all learn at the same pace. We need to be shifting our methods to provide just in time learning experiences vs. just in case. #tlap
A4: Though I do love our Utah mountains, my ultimate happy place is the beach. I believe there is a healing factor in the sounds and smells of the ocean. Give me a quiet spot and a good book. I’m set! #tlap
A5: RelevanT. Students are more likely to be engaged when the learning is meaningful and relevant to who they are, what they do, and what they want to be. #tlap
A5: Transport! Bring the learning experiences to life. This doesn't always have to be a complete transformation of your space but it can be. Transport them to a place where learning comes alive! #tlap
A5: TRUE - if we give Ss learning experiences that are authentic and have them tackle real-world problems, they’ll be engaged. Let’s make learning RELEVANT. #tlap
A5: Transparent: What your teaching should be meaningful and relevant....otherwise why are you teaching it? Make learning relevant. Be honest, be open, build the relationships. Let them see you and your class for who you are! #tlap
A5: Techquity: using technology to provide equitable education for all kiddos. Technology also provides access to so many more authentic real-world issues that kids are so much more engaged in. Not a real word, but I’m going for it anyway. #tlap
A5: Since I'm no longer in the classroom, but a tech coach... It's unfortunate to see many classrooms where I'm afraid Ss wouldn't show up. Ts lecturing for most time. We need Ss owning learning and Ts as facilitators and designers of learning #TLAP

A5.) THOUGHTFUL.
When I put in the creativity, time and effort - my students notice and LATCH ON. They buy into what they know I THOUGHT through! Showing them they are WORTH it through my THOUGHTFULNESS can change the entire climate of our room!
#tlap
A5: Tell them WHY! Engagement begins with buy in- If the purpose isn’t explicit, and it doesn’t matter TO THEM, most of the time it’s hard to get past compliance. #tlap
Never feel lame with Technology! It's the heart of what I do (and have done for more than a decade!) Tech rocks! I even call my PD sessions Tiny Tech Trainings! #tlap

In reply to
@CRCarter313, @burgessdave, @TaraMartinEDU, @tamaraletter
A2: Pressure is required in order to become a diamond, but they are not the only precious stones. Some elements work differently under pressure. I learned that students will become the gem they are supposed to become with a balance of encouragement and endurable pressure. #TLAP
Q1: Describe your teaching and/or leadership style. Here's the twist...you can only use the amount of words we rolled on the die. #tlap (use this idea with students and staff and have them roll the dice to add some fun and interest to question activities)

A6
I never spend money on myself this is easy:

Tombstone! Ask yourself... what would a student put on your tombstone? Would they say you are fun? Passionate? Engaging? Caring? Empathetic? The list goes on! #tlap
A6: I would be ecstatic because I'd give $4500 to the @TrevorProject, use $400 professionally to build my diversity club, and $100 for a nice dinner with my 👬 #tlap

A6.1 It also supports my personal because we get together with old friends, and it supports my Professional, because we always do something to learn. #TLAP
Most definitely! We use the book called The Positive Dog by Jon Gordon. It is the easiest read (that's how it kept the guys attention!) that could even go as far down as elementary school. Great book for males and females, my target audience was Sophomore males. #tlap
A7: @LeighKuhn2 and I have been taking a chance by starting a Code Club. We wanted to start something that would give all of our students a chance to participate in an after school activity. We are donating our time but it is SO worth it. #tlap
A7 Loved the dice and word limit game. It really makes you choose words carefully and you get rid of sentences with so much fluff you're gonna die. :) #tlap
A7: Two things.
1. We're using tabletop games in education & can't wait to see what comes from it.
2. Our literacy plan is a bit unconventional - read just to enjoy reading, no projects, no points, no rewards, no consequences. (whaaaat?!) Excited!!!! #tlap
A6: $5,000
Personal: $600 - the gorgeous bookshelf I've been wanting!
$1000 finish off one student loan

A7 I will for sure be using the colour question! It goes so well with our focus on social emotional learning! I also love that the same colour can mean different things to everyone! Powerful discussion even for little ones! ❤️🧡💛💛💙💜 #tlap
A5: Totally! Student engagement means our kiddos are totally involved. Not hanging their feet over the edge of the pool involved. Full cannonball in the deep end involved. Totally. #tlap
I love devoting time to mindset training in my school setting. We have strict testing prep times, but free moments go to training their minds to increase confidence, motivation, and lowering anxiety, apathy, and other barriers to success. #tlap
🎁📚🎄🎁📚🎄🎁📚🎄🎁
And the books were all wrapped & tucked in their paper...waiting for students to unwrap them tomorrow!
Each day until Winter Break, a student will unwrap a gift (book) to find out which holiday book will be our read aloud!
Thx! @bmilla84#TLAP#KidsDeserveIt
A6: Professional = $4000 on flexible seating. Charity = $800 for the custodians who have to move out the desks to bring the new furniture in. Personal = $200 for a date night with my husband to celebrate the new stuff. #tlap
A6. P to travel and do kind acts for people, Charity to donate to a good cause or project that promotes learning and kindness projects with kids, development project working to solve one of the major problems facing the world climate change, cancer research, CO2 emissions! #tlap
Q1: Describe your teaching and/or leadership style. Here's the twist...you can only use the amount of words we rolled on the die. #tlap (use this idea with students and staff and have them roll the dice to add some fun and interest to question activities)
A7: I like to roll the dice to see how many times we spin the wheel, draw a card to see who goes next to give the spinner a turn, or pick a color. I love it all. Super happy fun circle time Friday just got a big dose of fun, games, and chance! #tlap
A7: I love the dice challenge. It forces you to be concise and creative. But the random joy of squealing with surprise (bingo) makes me want to use that strategy, too! #tlap
Q7: What "Take a Chance" strategy might you use in your school setting? #tlap Be sure to check out other people's answers and pillage ideas!!! #PirateCrewCollaboration
A7: I had the pleasure of seeing
@TaraMartinEDU this summer and I can't wait to open the inflatable dice I asked for from my family for Christmas. #tlap
A7: I like the 🎲 idea. Maybe, since I'm a tech coach... Have a challenge where Ts must collaborate and develop a relevant project or lesson that includes "n" of tech tools for Ss to include or select from #Chopped Tech Edition #tlap 🤪
A6: Personal - $2000 (1K for each of my kids college book funds), Professional - $1000 for web & app subscriptions for Ss, Charity $2000 spread amongst local children's & veteran's organizations. #tlap
A5: Testimony. When I share my struggles and successes with academic situations, I build connection with my students and sometimes paint content or skills in an attainable light. #TLAP
A7. The dice activity..work with a partner to solve a math problem...but you can only do the number of steps you role and then your partner takes over...thinking long division #tlap
A7: I'll use the dice activity. I like the idea of synthesizing info and making it more efficient - creates more opportunities to actually think through word choice and meaning at a deeper level. This could be used as a check in at the beg of class! Thanks for the idea! #tlap
Q7: What "Take a Chance" strategy might you use in your school setting? #tlap Be sure to check out other people's answers and pillage ideas!!! #PirateCrewCollaboration
A7: I love the dice word limit. I think it helps make sure there’s time for everyone’s voice. I also like the “Your letter is...” it helps think outside the box, especially when hearing other’s answers. #tlap
A6: Personal- A vacation with the family and then the rest would be professional/charity and buy lots and lots of books for my classroom and to give away to students in the district. #tlap
A6 Since I won, too... double the learning, double the conferences, and double the amount of kids with warm winter clothes.... warm hearts and souls all around! #tlap
A7.) Pick A Card
I love how something so “basic” can be given so many interpretations. With limited choices, it shows that just because we have the same choices/thoughts - our interpretations can be very different and unique! #tlap
A6. $2500 to organizations that support diversity and social emotional learning. $2000 to Ts to develop curriculum that supports individualized learning, culturally relevant lessons and #sel behavior supports. $500 for me to buy books to give Ss. #tlap
A7
“Taking a chance" in the classroom teaches the importance of normalizing struggle, of naming it, acknowledging it, and calling it what it is: a sign that we’re growing. The goal for students is to come to challenges and struggles as a chance to grow and do better.
#tlap
A7: Like the idea from @JayBilly2 using the crafting engaging lessons: presentational hooks from https://t.co/hAu9JGCjFU at a staff meeting or incorporating the 30dayhookchallenge #tlap
A7: Hoping to use all of these strategies with our student ambassador team that we're looking to launch in the next few weeks and our media club. #tlap Thanks for an awesome chat!! Felt great to take a break from grad school hw. One class left!
a7: pick a card. explain how that card (suit or number or both) represents biodiversity. #tlap@TaraMartinEDU and @burgessdave are planning my week of warm ups! :)
Q6: $1,500 Ike and Ella Fund (help other families who've lost children)
$1,000 finish outdoor classroom @SwantonMS 🏫. $1,000 flexible seating, book nook in my room. $1,500 pay for @ericcurts to run PD for staff in service. #stillneedbrakes#iteach#tlap
A5: Relevant. I see you, @MathDenisNJ. If we are not making learning experiences real for our students, we cannot expect them to buy-in to what we are selling. #tlap
#TLAP a7. I think I would make my own wheel and have it relate to various interests for #pbl maybe art- literature- science- outdoor ed and robotics. They choose and Let the Research Begin.
A7: I'm an idiot, lol! The questions from tonight - geez, I need to go back to bed!
Yeah, I can use the wheel - I like that; lots of opportunities for writing & research.
How about some cute cuddly cats to make up for it though? Yes? 🤦♀️ #tlap
First official TLAP chat and I am walking away with a handful of ideas to implement right away - this was awesome! Looking forward to being back next week! #tlap
A7- In our Greek Mythology class, the "Guardian of the Glen" quizzes kids on myths that share a theme. S/he rolls a die and whoever it lands in has to recount the myth or answer a question. Notes and "phone a friend" are allowed, but you can only be a phone friend once! #tlap
A6: Since I have been deeply soul-searching about and coming to terms with my inability to biologically be a mom, I would combine the money for all three ways and take a trip to visit orphanages to learn more about how I can give nurturing service. #TLAP
Here’s the last challenge!
Our Captain @burgessdave has a birthday this week!!!!
The challenge=
Let’s shower him with PIRATE love on Wednesday, Dec 12!!
What might your gift be, Mr. Pirate? It’s wrapped in my fave.
Signed,
The Living Emoji🤗☠️
#tlap
A7: I like a variation of the dice where students generate a list of words and then are required to include the dice roll number of words from the list in their writing. #tlap
Thank you @TaraMartinEDU, @burgessdave and the #tlap crew, it's no roll of the 🎲 with you two and I am ♣️ to be part of this PLN! I'd spin the wheel any Monday night!!
