#espechat we do a four sided warm up--each side of the gym is a different movement pattern, so students transition into the next movement. Movement in open spaces and a skill is called our or projected on the screen when technology wants to cooperate--:)
  • PhysEdApps - Moderator Jan 15 @ 8:17 PM EST
A3) Create an opportunity for Ss to change an inactive moment with an active one. Worksheet would be easiest to show learning but could work in small groups/partners before sharing as a whole class. #ESPEchat

  • PhysEdFreak Jan 15 @ 8:19 PM EST
A1) we’ve played locomotor tag, a game where 5 movements are projected on the wall and when you get tagged you switch to the next movement and continue traveling. K-2 handles it pretty seamlessly. #ESPEchat

#espechat A3 By having Ss using their chromebooks and charting and graphing their pedometer steps over a course of time. Ss begin to see increased steps. Reflection ?: Why. Ss responding privately on device.
  • SaraWoodPE Jan 15 @ 8:22 PM EST
A3 could be a plagnet question, where the question is “what’s a way to become healthier” with one choice being PA. “Identifies” is the key word here #espechat
    In reply to @PerkettPE
  • cpola17 Jan 15 @ 8:22 PM EST
A3 - a simple active v non active chart - what happens to our bodies when active and what happens when not active - connect these to our ‘strong organs’ students then discover different activities that promote physical activity #espechat
  • chavezphysed Jan 15 @ 8:22 PM EST
A3: I've used worksheets, collaberative discussions and a heart rate lesson where students track their progress. #espechat
  • PerkettPE Jan 15 @ 8:23 PM EST
Q4) Standard 4: S4.E6.2b - Student works safely with physical education equipment. This is obviously a HUGE part of our classroom. How do you assess this standard? #espechat
  • PhysEdFreak Jan 15 @ 8:23 PM EST

      In reply to @PerkettPE
  • holben_pe Jan 15 @ 8:24 PM EST
A3 I could see using pedometers that measure MVPA for students to see the difference between PA and nonPA #ESPEchat
  • Mr_C_PE Jan 15 @ 8:24 PM EST
A4) Running tally safety assessment based on teacher observation while using equipment. Mark a tally anytime a student needs a reminder and make a rubric based off of this #espechat
  • JrV4Victory Jan 15 @ 8:24 PM EST
A1) I do a song for my little kids as a warm-up at times. Song gives cues and then when all locomotor skills are named, the song goes now lets see if you remember the sounds and they go by sound for each locomotor movement #espechat https://t.co/KXal0uSbxY

  • CoachFoe Jan 15 @ 8:26 PM EST
#espechat A4 Before 8th gr Ss can use wgt rm they must show me proper two person and one person spotting techniques. Along with proper lift technique. Observation and yes you can do it or no you cannot not. When they feel ready to show me they can try again.
  • EPEWCP Jan 15 @ 8:27 PM EST
A4: I have them do self reflection sheets. #espechat
  • JrV4Victory Jan 15 @ 8:27 PM EST

  • cpola17 Jan 15 @ 8:28 PM EST
A4 - are Ss able to correctly use the equipment safely - using GIFs and for people who know me I use them every lesson for everything. Example (GIF) of how we use 2promote using equipment safely - students discuss A&B and then do both and see why the correct one worked #espechat
  • Mr_C_PE Jan 15 @ 8:29 PM EST
A5) Just used this written exit ticket recently towards the end of our jump rope unit (S5.E2.5) #espechat
  • foes4sports Jan 15 @ 8:29 PM EST
A4: For me, I just use an observational checklist and instead of marking those who are safe, I would mark if I saw a problem - perhaps simply for the purpose of speaking privately with them about it at the end of class, or, obviously if potential of injury, immediately. #espechat
  • foes4sports Jan 15 @ 8:30 PM EST
This is definitely outstanding teaching practice!! Nice work. #espechat
    In reply to @cpola17
  • MSolper Jan 15 @ 8:31 PM EST
A4 - I've done lots of talking and modeling with correct use of equipment....which often leads to several reminders at the beginning for the younger kiddos. :) I've also asked students if that use was expected or unexpected...our schools uses this vocabulary often #espechat

  • PhysEdFreak Jan 15 @ 8:32 PM EST
We just recently started using @PolarGlobal HRMs and it’s been INCREDIBLE to see Ss manipulate their exertion to stay in the green/heart healthy zone. It makes talking heart rate/cardio health sooooo much easier!! #ESPEchat
    In reply to @holben_pe, @PolarGlobal
  • chavezphysed Jan 15 @ 8:32 PM EST
A4: This is easy for me, I observe SS and go from there. If SS aren't being safe I have a discussion with SS. #espechat
  • SaraWoodPE Jan 15 @ 8:32 PM EST
A5 this assessment doesn’t match the standard, but I’d go with a listing activity. List activities you enjoy. List activities that are challenging. Could expand to why off of the list. Just not enough time to write an essay. #espechat
    In reply to @PerkettPE
  • ElemPE1 Jan 15 @ 8:33 PM EST
A4) have students practice procedures (where to put it when I'm talking, how to put it away, etc.) with fake, imaginary equipment. It works! Also have a couple students demonstrate procedures using real equipment for others to watch and learn. #espechat
  • GingerAaron Jan 15 @ 8:33 PM EST

  • foes4sports Jan 15 @ 8:35 PM EST
A5: You could use this: https://t.co/FG9UjpAgWf and have students create their own dance or a dance in partners or small groups. They could add their own move and a set number of the moves shown here let it be totally open! #espechat
  • JrV4Victory Jan 15 @ 8:35 PM EST
A5) I talk to my students & at times I give into the requests of my kids and use the activities they love and modify them if needed. I am doing dance for my SMART goal & my students are asking me if they can choose the song and if the song has to be in English #espechat

    • Mr_C_PE Dec 6 @ 5:16 PM EST
5th gr Ss have been learning about the concept of protecting/shielding through the lens of stick handling. Thanks to @physedreview's for "Toilet Paper Tag"...perfect warm up to the scaffolding of activities we used later in class highlighted in the video below! #physed #S2E5

  • PhysEdFreak Jan 15 @ 8:37 PM EST
A5) I’ve had students keep journals where we have a handful of written assignments, but the one daily question is “Did I enjoy today’s activity? Explain your answer.” You’d be surprised how much you learn about Ss and their relationships from this simple question! #ESPEchat 🤣🤣

Turkey tag. Turkeys are in the barn right before Thanksgiving, I save them and let them out. The farmers have to tag them and escort them back into the barn, the vegetarians live next door, sneak onto the property & rescue them one at a time to become “free range” turkeys again.
