Donna from Ft. Worth. This was an amazing year. I had such a kind, collaborative class that was a real family. One special memory was when I climbed to the top of the spider web and all the class cheered for me! Not that great a feat but they thought I was a super hero! #3rdchat
Azure from Derby, KS. One of my favorite memories with my class this year was doing a compliment chair. During our class meetings, Ss sat in the chair and their classmates gave them genuine compliments. This truly helped develop our little family. #3rdchat
I just got done getting my hair styled for our Ellis Island simulation tomorrow. Kids aren’t the only ones who love to dress up! #rsewhy#iamdsisd#3rdchat
Hello! Lesa Haney, learning alongside great kiddos and amazing colleagues near Austin, TX. One of my fav moments was when my class won the tug of war and rights to be served popsicles first. They unanimously gave the rights to the popsicles first the opposing team #3rdchat
Hey #3rdchat !!! Ashleigh from Kansas. This was one of the most fun years! One of my favorite memories was really building our classroom family through morning meetings... and also ice skating! None of our 3rds had been so it was a really fun experience!
Yes, it’s a wig. I have put together a whole outfit. I am super excited. We set up an experience where students get to learn the process of passing through Ellis Island. I’ll post pics tomorrow #3rdchat
Hello #3rdchat! I'm Sara from Missoula, Montana. My favorite memories with this years class was reading our class novels and writing our nonfiction books.
A1 My biggest accomplishment this year was integrating much more technology. I really stepped outside of my comfort zone and gave many new things a try. I am proud of how well it worked and can't wait to try even more next year. #3rdchat
A1: This year, I fully implemented @Seesaw into the classroom, became an ambassador and held a district wide Seesaw PD alongside my awesome teammate, @blbrownlee. Something I have always wanted to do and hope to do more of in the future! #3rdchat
Hi #3rdchat! I’m Angela, from Alberta. I’m still making memories with my Ss, but my favourite so far has been our Multicultural Extravaganza yesterday😊
Hi #3rdchat! Sarah from SE MO here, back from the gym just in time to join you all! I made some great memories with my class this year. Many of them center around what we did and said in our morning meetings.
Hi #3rdchat! Kathryn from the Los Angeles area. One of my favorite recent memories was when one of my dry erase markers dried up, so I threw it across the room into the trash can like always but never actually make it. I actually made it and the kids loved it. Ha! #3rdchat
We studied 4 countries this yr, so we had a celebration with food, costumes, activities & even another class from a different school! It was SO fun & cross-curricular😊#3rdchat
Aly from CO! A1: This was the year of feedback! I really tried to get feedback from my students, staff and parents this year, and then take action based on that feedback. #3rdchat
A2 My continual challenge is time. This year I worked on integration - everything connected. It took a lot of planning but helped. Next year, I will continue to work to find ways to save time and utilize every single teachable moment of the day. #3rdchat
A2: Moving to a new building was a challenge in and of itself, but I wouldn't change it for the world. I grew more this year as a teacher than I have in my whole career. Advice for someone doing the same, persevere and find a trusted person to share your highs and lows. #3rdchat
A2: I struggled w/ scope and sequence. I found myself focusing too much on what I was teaching and less on who. I had to just stop and slow down. In the end, we got to the same place. My advice is to never loose sight on of the fact we teach kids, not curriculum. #3rdchat
A1:My biggest accomplishment was making global connections. I had the pleasure of connecting with @MrsBarnett_Tchr and @DonnaWeth students. We also connected with Math Student Mentors at our Middle School with @DanielMinger1 Algebra teacher extraordinaire. #3rdchat#ampclass
A1: I'm proud of taking initiative to bring new things to my Ss: this year I fully implemented morning meeting, brag tags, and genius hour. My Ss also used @Seesaw, @Flipgrid, and @Kidblog. #3rdchat
My biggest risks were rocking the boat! I changed grades, used flex seating, #geniushour, #pbl & Ss had LOTS of input! We’re having our Silent Day next week, where I can’t talk😜#3rdchat
A2: One challenge was trying to balance innovative ideas with institutional practices & curricular responsibilities. I am working to app smash & standard smash instead of teaching things in isolation. Use more authentic learning activities to measure multiple skills. #3rdchat
A1: My biggest accomplishment was getting one student put on an IEP. His 2nd grade teacher kept trying last year but there wasn't much P support then. It's been a process this year but I know it will only help him in the future #3rdchat
A2: I moderated some chats this year on Twitter which pushed me out of my comfort zone. It was a really great experience, and I'm glad I did them! #3rdchat
Angela from CA - We went on a field trip to the local performing arts center and saw @StepAfrikaHQ - My students loved it so much we added one of their call backs to our list. #3rdchat
A1: I am really proud of the risks we took this year with PBL. My awesome co-teacher @MrsRJHill_RM109 have big dreams but time seems to escape from us. Our @Macys parade we constructed and parades around school was a blast! #3rdchat
I'd have to say...Me Too. I incorporated more tech this year and throughout all subject areas. The more I get comfortable the easier it is to do. #3rdchat
A3: Our reading/math intervention time was different for me in the sense that we had more of a center/small group approach to this time. I have a lot to improve upon in this area and hope to spend much more time planning specifically for these two times. #3rdchat
A3 I tried connecting with another classroom via @ron_martiello and @flipgrid. It was awesome! Why haven't I done this before. I am planning lots of ways to connect with others next year! #3rdchat
A2: time is my weakness. Spending too much time... not enough time... trying to find that perfect balance and not letting the pacing guide stress me out #3rdchat
A2: My whole year was a challenge, this being my first in a new school and a new grade level. Serious thanks to all you #3rdchat peeps for your encouragement, advice, and tips. I really don't think I would have survived as well without you!
A2: Biggest challenge I overcame was making effective Common Literacy activities across Grades 3-5. It required some creativity & really listening to Ss! #3rdchat
Not yet. I have been on the field coaching softball this spring and watching my boys on baseball and lacrosse. We live life on the edge during Spring sports. Ha! I will have to watch my Phils! #3rdchat
We already have a strong #PBIS establishment at our school, but I wanted to do more in my own class. So I decided on #bragtags! We had a ceremony *most Fridays to award positive behaviors and individual S accomplishments I noticed throughout the week. #3rdchat

@DonnaWeth, @Seesaw, @Flipgrid, @Kidblog
Don’t quit- I swear it’s worth it! When my first match fell through I contacted someone at @EmpaticoOrg and they were right on it! They even followed up to see if this connection was a success! I matched up twice when my first connection was done. #3rdchat
A3: I used MESS (Model, Equation, Solution, & Summary) strategy for problem solving. The strategy allows students to show their learning & problem solving skills through visuals, equations and writing. Next Year: Will use flipped lessons to teach Math models. #3rdchat@kellys3ps
A3: this year we made morning meetings a scheduled part of our day... and the payoff was amazing! This summer I want to read up more on them and fine tune them to make them even more impactful! #3rdchat
A4: I feel that my team built strong relationships with each other, collaborated with one another. It's important to have relationships that are for sharing what works and what doesn't. It helps us all grow and become better at our craft. #3rdchat
A4: I hope I made an impact on showing teachers how to connect and learn with other teachers using social media. I love sharing my new ideas from my PLN. Eventually, I want my PLN to include colleagues with whom I work face to face. #3rdchat
A2: A challenge I had this year was trying to do too much. I was fine in the classroom, but I headed several committees and took charge of a lot of my grade level duties. Near the end of the year, I realized I HAD to cut back. I am slowly learning to let other work too. #3rdchat
Don’t quit- I swear it’s worth it! When my first match fell through I contacted someone at @EmpaticoOrg and they were right on it! They even followed up to see if this connection was a success! I matched up twice when my first connection was done. #3rdchat
A4: As a team, we have grown so much this year. The team has always been amazing, but this year we are much more collaborative and in sync. I love my team! #3rdchat
A4: I got to lead some PD’s this year and that was so fun for me! I also tried to help do some staff morale boosting... I love when people are happy and feel appreciated. I’m hoping to tie in more of that this coming year! #3rdchat
A4: Becca from KS. Late bc of baseball. My team and I shared a lot of the lesson planning this year. This helped us learn new ideas and build on each others’ strengths #3rdchat
A3: Hopping in late on Q3... I tried more of a BlendEd approach in math (successfully) and reading (still work on this) glad I had this year to really develop my BlendEd classroom to make next year, with different challenges, more engaging with more student choices. #3rdchat
A4: I’m hoping I had a positive impact on colleagues through collaboration, risk-taking & being generous with time, resources & ideas. I have new colleagues coming in, so I’m planning to be as supportive & compassionate as possible.#3rdchat
A4: I think I brought positivity and enthusiasm to my colleagues this year. I also had an amazing student teacher, so I got to be the role model, listener, and cheerleader for her as well. #3rdchat
A4: I also tried out new resources for science and math. Shared my successes, trials, errors with my team and encouraged them to give it a try #3rdchat
A5: We have Move Up Day at my school. My students will reflect on their 3rd grade experience. They will write letters to our current second graders, so they can share their experiences with these future 3rd grade students. #3rdchat
A5: Data notebooks are a good reflection tool, but I will admit that I didn't have time to really evaluate them at the end of the year. We also did some @Flipgrid to reflect on our growth and shared with 2nd grade Ss coming up to 3rd grade so they know what to expect. #3rdchat
A3: Some colleagues were somewhat discouraging through negativity & taking advantage of my time & resources. Others inspired & encouraged new ideas. #3rdchat
A4: I had multiple observations from inside and outside of our school as part of our local BlendEd pilot program. My students loved the extra visitors and I appreciated the feedback. #3rdchat
We did an art project of a collage similar to a story we read in our ELA anthology about memories. I've written them a daily letter so I'm going to have them write me a letter. Also, found a cute "ABCs of 3rd grade" memory book on TPT #3rdchat
A5: we ended with sharing our highs, lows, and goals for next year.. and tears. I truly had a special class this year, it was hard to say goodbye. #3rdchat
I LOVE this! F2F connections are SO powerful because they can really change your school culture & feed creativity throughout the day! I love my online PLN, but F2F makes ideas come to life even more quickly! #3rdchat
A5: @Seesaw was amazing to have and use as a reflective tool. We looked at how much we grew from August until May... and they giggled at stuff we did at the beginning of the year that they thought was challenging... as compared to what they were doing now. #3rdchat
A5: My class collaboratively created a “What I Learned in 3rd Grade” chart. It was a great way to see what stuck with Ss from the year and we had great discussion about our growth #3rdchat
A6: Summer is my time to get my reading time! I am looking forward to our #3rdchat book study and catching up on some reading to inspire me for next year.
A6:1️⃣ #3rdchat book study “Be the Wild Card”. 2️⃣ Interview teachers from my PLN for my 2-Minute Drill⏱ video blog. So many great stories out there we can learn from. Volunteers? 3️⃣ Learn more about authentic global classroom connections. #3rdchat
A6: I am participating in the #3rdchat book club over #bethewildcard of course! I am so excited to dig into this resource with my peeps! Everyone is welcome! #3rchat
A5: I just read #empowerbook the other day. It was about giving Ss choice so that they will take ownership in their learning. It had a section on self-evaluation, peer assessment, and one-on-one conferencing. I'm really looking to have Ss self-assess for empowerment #3rdchat
A6. When I saw question 6 I just had to jump in and share about #BookCampPD 's summer, prof learning! Hope ALL of you will join as it takes place 24/7. Here are the details --> https://t.co/vnuieVBizn#3rdchat
A6: I am so excited to attend @EdCampICT and @nErDCampKS these upcoming weeks- also heading to a trauma in schools conference and lots of reading- I have so many PD books I want to dig into! #3rdchat
A6 I am looking for a great conference. Technology? Writing? We will have a new teammate and want to travel and learn together to build some bonds! Any ideas? #3rdchat
A1: I made a goal to try @seesaw this year and I did. It changed my classroom, I also gave up some control and started student led discussions #3rdchat
A5: We built in reflection throughout the year through goal setting, both individual & class, Class Meetings, journalling/blogging, use of Responsibility Partners, self-assessment & lots of conversation #3rdchat
I am headed to #ST4T next week, then #ISTE . I will take advantage of my PLN and some planning and thinking with my friend who is also looping. #3rdchat
A6: During summer time I really get to do some quality reading. In the last week I've finished Move Your Bus, Empower, and just started #FutureDriven. I will also be participating in a book study with my colleagues on Next Dteps Forward in Guided Reading. #3rdchat
A3: this year I tried student led discussions. Next year I want to put a stronger emphasis on student led questioning and getting my kids to thinking critically to ask the right questions #3rdchat
I love when they write letters to the next class. “Dear student sitting in my seat,”. We also make memory books so they’ll remember what they did😊#3rdchat
A6. Perhaps before the school year ends you might want to create a professional learning adventure with others? Here are some ideas to get you started https://t.co/vT4XVAvgL1#3rdchat
A7: At the end of the year, I tried “Choice Homework”. Students could explore passions & interests for 20 to 30 minutes at night. They could extend their learning of material taught in school. Parents said students were more motivated to do homework. #workinprogress#3rdchat
A7: Implementing #flexibleseating was a huge opportunity for student choice. It was a growth opportunity for me to change my mindset as well. Ss loved the chance to select the best learning space for them to be successful and to evaluate if it was working for them daily. #3rdchat
A7: @Seesaw and @Flipgrid gave my students voice. We offer a lot of choice in our project based learning, science and steam projects, and genius hour. I love all the things they come up with! #3rdchat
A4: my team has been my biggest support. I’m so thankful for them, we help each other out, bounce ideas off of each other and encourage each other. I also made connections and grew my PLN this year. Reached out and connected with some other great educators @DonnaWeth 😁 #3rdchat
A7: The writing curriculum I used allowed for Ss to write what they wanted. I liked that they weren't constrained by an assigned topic or prompt. #3rdchat
A5: during the last week of school we looked at our @Seesaw journal. We scrolled all the way back to August and celebrated the growth and our successes #3rdchat
A7: Voice and Choice were game changers in my classroom. Kiddos came to school excited to learn, little to no behavior problems. A very ENGAGED classroom! #3rdchat
A7: My goal is not to box them in. Always allow time for them to speak, share with us and others. Try to give as many choices through the day as is possible. #3rdchat
A6: our district is doing a big @CanvasLMS push next year and I am not very familiar with it at all. I’d like to learn more so I can figure out ways to effectively use it in my classroom, and figure out its purpose #3rdchat
👍Choice in writing allows students to show their passions and interests. It is easier for them to meet the standards when they are experts in the content. #3rdchat
A8: Intervention time is my weakest area as a teacher and in all actuality, it should be the strongest. I need to work on pacing a little more as well. I fell way behind last year because we spent too much time working on foundational skills. #3rdchat
A8: I tried so many new ideas this year. I need to settle in and create better resources to clearly communicate procedures and expectations when doing these activities. I need to create a system that is transparent so parents see this information too. #3rdchat
A7: Ss helped plan units, #geniushour projects, #pbl, Class Meetings, student centered centres, room design with student input, Ss would plan days sometimes, Quality Boosters, Responsibility Partners, choice of assignments #3rdchat
A8: continue to build upon what I started this year... learn from others and especially my students. Let them see that learning should never stop. #3rdchat
A8 I am always looking for ways to empower my students. I believe voice and choice is the key to engagement. Technology is always an area of growth for me and I want to do more room transformations this year and keep on integrating everything! #3rdchat
A8: Next year I really want to incorporate more #STEM projects into my teaching. In late April I began using @MysterySci to have Ss explore, but my plan is to go even further to encourage innovation and problem-solving through engineering. #3rdchat
Those of you sharing in #3rdchat - I think what you do is amazing and you should be extremely proud of who you are/what you do for children. Thanks for the chat! @DonnaWeth <-- ROCKIN' EDUCATOR!!
#3rdchat is taking the next week off to celebrate the beginning of summer! We will return on June 13th to begin our Summer book study of The Wild Card. We hope you can join us!
