A2 - I’m hoping to make time to work through Unlocking English Learners' Potential: Strategies for Making Content Accessible by Diane Staehr Fenner and Sydney Snyder
#WeAreMCPS
Last school year all the Dunnellon Middle teachers participated in a book study on Engaging Students with Poverty in Mind. Great suggestion. #wearemcps
A3: I’m not amazing with twitter so I don’t really follow much on here. However, I’m in an amazing Facebook group call 2ndaryELA and I’ve gotten so much support and many ideas from it (one pagers, bloom balls, book clubs). #WeAreMCPS
A3: I follow @SteeleThoughts. He is a principal, speaker and writer out of Alabama and his tweets always grab my attention. They are thought provoking and often talk about building school culture and fostering relationships.
#wearemcps
A3: I'm all about the Lesson Study! If you're not already following @WALessonStudy, check it out! Lesson Study can have huge and positive impacts on instruction and student success. #WeAreMCPS
A3: I love following @KyleneBeers. I am also always following #edtech I love the ideas and inspiration I get from the other educators using the tag. #WeAreMCPS
A3: I get so much out of following all of our amazing schools in Marion County! I also find following @MCPS_Secondary an easy way to stay up to date on county highlights! #WeAreMCPS
Jaqueline Sanderlin #whynot has such a positive outlook on building school and community relationships. Her message is truly inspirational. Her ideas really open up different ways of thinking about how we can build our community and our schools. #WeAreMCPS
Differentiating the Curriculum for Gift Learners is amazing! I also used resources from Teaching Gifted Kids in Today’s Classroom while reading that book!
Try it out, you'll get better. Check out a twitter chat group I posted in my reponse. #engchat is great. I learned so much from that one and the combined one they do with #sschat. #wearemcps
A4: I'd like to have an opportunity centered on exploring alternatives to Round Robin reading and maybe one or two on effective content area reading support strategies (vocabulary/comprehension). #WeAreMCPS
A4 - No surprise here☺️, I’d love to see something focusing on English Language Learners and language acquisition. There are so many wonderful things to explore with these topics🌎💫🍎 #WeAreMCPS
What a great way to bring the wide world into the classroom. So important for students to have opportunities to immerse themselves in new experiences! #wearemcps
So true. We had a new hire in the Social Studies department this year and it was amazing how having that one person with a fresh, new outlook ratcheted up the enthusiasm and creativity of the others in the department. #teachercollaboration#wearemcps
So true! I had Civics/ESOL classes that were heavy in ELL students who didn't speak Spanish as their native language. (Chinese, Arabic, Tagalog, an African tribal language, Portuguese and French) We can't rely on translation to help ELLs! #WeAreMCPS
A5: I really want to try small group book clubs in my classroom next year. I’ve seen so many interesting accounts of how they run in the classroom. Plus, I want to give students an opportunity to question and discuss what they’re reading independently. #WeAreMCPS
A5: lesson focused learning walks (similar to lesson study). I’d like to work collaboratively with teachers, maybe even from another campus, and let teachers plan together, then do learning walks together, and provide feedback to each other. #WeAreMCPS@kaylapala@HorizonAcadFL
Oh, I loved @seesaw. You would enjoy it if you're thinking about the portfolios. I used it at our former school and parents liked it as well. #WeAreMCPS
A5: I'd love to set up a virtual PD opportunity, incorporating something like this or Google Classroom. Interest in working on a flipped classroom approach is present at FKMS and it would be interesting to see how that structure can impact PD as well. #WeAreMCPS
I'm looking forward to so much next year, I've learned so much in my first year and can't wait to refine. I really look forward to trying out @nearpod and @Seesaw as two new resources! #WeAreMCPS
A5: I am looking forward to trying to do a true STEAM PBL throughout our grade level. I was able to collaborate with some fellow teachers for my PBL this year. But, I would love for our whole team to work together to make something spectacular and memorable. #WeAreMCPS
A5: I want to continue to help teachers become more comfortable incorporating technology in their classrooms. Whether its @SeeSaw, Google Classrooms, or just helping them better utilize their smart boards and document projectors. #wearemcps
A5: Making Powtoons instead of PowerPoints for my lessons. Having my students create digital portfolios and buddying up with @sarahcgold first graders. #WeAreMCPS
Yes! I started using @Seesaw this year and I love it. The kids also love it. You can create portfolios and categorize each assignment to fit a standard/topic/unit/etc. It's wonderful. #WeAreMCPS

How did he build up the student's motivation to do the prep work outside of class? Did he start off with just one flipped assignment and then work up to more? Any strategies you could share would be great. #wearemcps
When using @plickers or @GetKahoot, think about purpose. If it's to engage students, @GetKahoot tends to work a little better. If you want concrete data to reteach, @plickers works better. #WeAreMCPS

A5 - I’m most looking forward to supporting schools and ELL students this upcoming school year. Also hoping to provide teachers with tools to reach #ELLs - they have so much to offer our classrooms and community. #WeAreMCPS
He rewards kids who have the knowledge when class begins with a competition bell-ringer like Kahoot. Yes, did just start off with one assignment and then work up to more. Call me and we can talk about this more. It is pretty awesome! #wearemcps
S&S-My summer plans include beach time, a family road trip, baking, cooking, reading, shopping, and volunteering @NorthFLHOBY Have a happy summer, teacher friends! 🍎🌴 #WeAreMCPS
S&S: My sister and I are heading to the family cabin on Oneida Lake in upstate NY and then on to Niagara Falls for my cousin's wedding. So excited! #WeAreMCPS
Professional Plans: Lots of PD sessions, curriculum development, rolling out our new ELA series, and getting ready for the new school year with my amazing team #WeAreMCPS
Just thought of this through our chat! We always talk about students learn through collaboration but so do educators. Excited to explore this idea!#WeAreMCPS
S&S: I'm hoping to have a balanced summer. Travel some (beach, NJ, Mississippi), PD, spend time with family and friends, as well as work on "school stuff" so I have a head start on next year. #wearemcps
I went with the BHS SGA officers to a conference in West Palm Beach about 4 years ago. I'd love to have more time there. It goes on the list of future destinations. #wearemcps
When you go again, you have to go to the Loggerhead Marinelife Center in Juno. It's one of our "must do" stops every time we visit. Love those turtles! #WeAreMCPS
Thanks everyone for participating in tonight’s #WeAreMCPS chat! I wouldn’t miss it for anything... even if it is #Game7 and the Stanley Cup Finals are on the line! ⚡️⚡️⚡️ #GoBolts#WeAreMCPS
