Hello #122edchat and #LastingLearning peeps. I'm Steph Dill, elementary SPED T in Colorado. I offically started back today and it's a milestone year. I am starting my 25th year as a special education teacher.
A1: I've spent time connecting on Twitter with my PLN and also talking with various teachers about ways that we can plan together. #122edchat#fcpslearn
A1: Attended #ISTE18 and worked on a brand new course scope and sequence for my new position. Also had meetings to start preparing for our brand new STEM Lab! On Friday, I'll be attending Googlepalooza - and Monday starts New Teacher Orientation in the new district! #122edchat
A1: Biggest thing would be hosting the Youtube show #Edusations where I have collaborated with educators from all over about innovative things they are doing in their learning environments. #122edchat
A1: Took a more active role on Twitter, researched new center ideas, and most importantly celebrated @megan_hacholski 30th Birthday! #122edchat#Culturize
A1: I participated in the #122edchat#Culturize book study, other Twitter chats, presented to new teachers w/ @MrPStrunk as well as staying connected to my PLN!
A1: Connecting and collaborating with the fine folks at #122EdChat#games4ed#masterychat and #AIMSNetwork and face to face with a couple of local conferences here in Nova Scotia
A1-We used a fun Flipgrid book study in our district to share ideas, thoughts, and responses. It was a fun way to read and learn together from wherever our travels took us! #122edchat
A1 I feel like that is all I did this summer. STEM workshop, lunch w/@MrPStrunk, Tons of Twitter stuff, and a super secret project I can't talk about yet. #122EdChat
A1: I’ve been actively building my PLN on twitter. Building connections to improve my development as a dean/assistant principal. Also, I’ve been actively building up my understanding of my role in the school. #122EdChat
A1 So much! Running a 2x month tech PD, currently doing a week long curriculum planning PD, kayaking with department members and lunch with my team, continued IG connections with kids! #122edchat
A1: I have read a few teacher education books (finally finished #TLAP ) and #Culturize. I read articles thru Edutopia and some govt articles to see what is coming up . Then just enjoying the summer so I can go back refreshed and ready to shine #122edchat
#122edchat Heulwen here in Melbourne, where I'm looking at working memory and the impact of language. Must say there is some awesome research released on Twitter
#122edchat A1: Participated in a Flipgrid book study through my district! Participated in a lot of PD through my district, District 93 (Illinois), and We the People/Project Citizen. Figured out these Twitter chats and joined a bunch!
A1 Had an AMAZING time at #FlipgridLive and #stuvoicecon18. Attended #TCEA summer retreat to work on plans for convention and more, attending #NETX18 the next two days, and try to encourage folks here on Twitter, others lift me up daily! #122edchat
A1: I've made so many connections with wonderful people on Twitter. I've read some PD books and met up with Michael @_on11 in person one afternoon while he was in Colorado. That was a blast! #122edchat

I'm so glad you are all here.
I got back on my #fearlessedchat horse (mostly) and jumped back into twitter chats after taking time off for baby. Excited to amp it up even more in the weeks to come! #122edchat
A1 Funny you should ask. I spent a few days with the best group of people on the planet at #FlipgridLive and all the activities surrounding it. I also attended the #BLC18 in Boston. Just finished two days of leadership training today. Busy summer but lots of learning. #122edchat
A1: Presented 5000 times; got to go to #FlipGridLive and connected with everyone I ever met on Twitter; networked; collaborated; broadened my knowledge base; made some amazing friends this summer! #culturize#122edchat
A1: I’ve spent this summer traveling to conferences & connecting w/ my #PLN in real life!! It has been an incredible time making memories & learning with so many of my #eduheroes! #122edchat
A1- OMG so much fun learning from New Jersey- to Texas - to Minnesota! Connected with many #PLN family & made more family! @bmilla84 makes the BEST travel Buddy! Love Her! 💕 #122edchat
A1: Read, met with other tt and admin a few times, and socialized with some other tt as well!!! Not quite as productive as I would have liked, but what can you do with 3 littles! #122edchat
A1~ every Monday since end of June been hosting a Read Aloud series w/one of my besties teacher @_mlb25 to serve Ss & their families as part of a food program #passion of ours & we love every minute of it~ we share a meal , Books & treats & a lot of ❤️
#122edchat
Q2: I think that the first step in communicating is to listen. my goal is to spend more time listening and asking questions rather than replying. #122edchat
A2: Just be honest. Stop holding back (especially with professionalism and intellectualism per @rickwormeli2) and share everything! At worst, you'll get valuable feedback - at best, you might change the world. #122edchat
A1 - #122edchat - I have written several pieces for @edu_post and @eschoolnews about education as well as started my @TeachPlusRI fellowship to connect with other educators and give them a voice in policy decisions.
A2: For starters, I want to film a video of myself inviting parents to back to school night (I'm team leader). Would also like to send home videos when we move to a new unit, to keep parents informed. #122edchat
A2: W/all the new @Flipgrid updates, the ability to access student voice has become easier than ever. Establishing connections beyond the walls of our school will be essential in order to make this a reality. Our Ss have a story to share, are we listening? #culturize w/#122edchat
a1 Your summer, our gloomy winter. Read #Culturize, read research, read fun stuff. Oh and discovered the joy of #bitmoji ,#122edchat, #mathphoto18 and #Ellchat_BkClub
Hopefully I don't just take but give in equal part measure
A1: My goal is to have much better parent communication this year. Make more phone calls and actively recruit parents to come see the class and be involved with what we do #122EdChat
A2 Excited for a "Mrs T, just so you know..." Google form w/ a https://t.co/BYne5ZBxD2. It'll notifies me so Ss share info immediately & privately #122edchat
A2: Just be honest. Stop holding back (especially with professionalism and intellectualism per @rickwormeli2) and share everything! At worst, you'll get valuable feedback - at best, you might change the world. #122edchat
A2: I think listening is the foundation of communication. Listen to what others are in need of or want to share and then branch out to help or take. #122edchat
A2: Slow down. Breathe. MAKE the TIME to have non-school related conversations with staff members.
Begin a conversation by asking if the other person wants you to respond (with advice, ideas) or if they need to be heard. #122edchat#culturize
I read some YA and MG to look for new books to bring into my curriculum. I used social media to expand my PLN and connect with other educators. I spent a lot of time creating a free resource page to share my materials, and I'm preparing to test for my Google Ed Cert. #122edchat
A2: W/all the new @Flipgrid updates, the ability to access student voice has become easier than ever. Establishing connections beyond the walls of our school will be essential in order to make this a reality. Our Ss have a story to share, are we listening? #culturize w/#122edchat
A2: Understand one another by Listening to HEAR, not respond.” Love this. I am going to consciously try to listen to what is being said by both Ss and Ts thru email and talk, and maybe even thru #flipgrid . #122edchat. #culturize
A2: Today we discussed the importance of sharing our button pushers with students and adults. If you know what bothers someone or what barriers are present in a conversation, it opens the opportunity for deeper understanding. #122edchat
A2 - #122edchat - I can make sure and really listen to others and make sure I understand their point of view before making assumptions. Everyone is different.
A2 I think I need to do a better job of explaining the WHY of what I do. Other Ts see what I am doing, but don't always get why I do it. If I want to get other Ts on board, I have to be more open. Can't always assume other Ts will say no. #122edchat
A2: Just be honest. Stop holding back (especially with professionalism and intellectualism per @rickwormeli2) and share everything! At worst, you'll get valuable feedback - at best, you might change the world. #122edchat
A1: Attending a couple professional conferences, starting to use Twitter to intentionally begin developing a #PLN, reading as many books as I can get my hands on, and discussing how to implement new ideas with teacher friends! #122EdChat
A2: Establish positive relationships from the beginning. Build trust, actively grow with my Ts to deliver high quality teaching and learning for Ss. #122EdChat
A2- Listen to understand what someone is telling you. Sometimes it’s okay to just listen and not say anything or share a solution. Just listening can be powerful for both parties. #122edchat
Love the non-school related conversations. This is a big part of building relationships that can support a school becoming and staying a learning community. #122edchat
A2: Slow down. Breathe. MAKE the TIME to have non-school related conversations with staff members.
Begin a conversation by asking if the other person wants you to respond (with advice, ideas) or if they need to be heard. #122edchat#culturize
A2 Excited for a "Mrs T, just so you know..." Google form w/ a https://t.co/BYne5ZBxD2. It'll notify me so Ss share info immediately & privately #122edchat
A2: build relationships. Get out of my room on my hippity hop around the whole school singing, “Boom boom boom, let me say wayo” until Christmas, then it will be “5 Golden Rings,” and then “No School Tomorrow If it snows” for snow days. Oh, and share my Choc. Cake. #122edchat
A1 this summer I became active in twitter chats and it has given me so much inspiration and motivation to try new things this year. It has been a weird awaking in the best way! #122EdChat
A2 My coteacher and I prepared a Welcome Back packet that we will actually mail out in about two weeks. It gives our special education inclusion students a preview of the course and what to expect and allows parents to join my e-mail list for periodic updates. #122edchat
A2: I will take advice from an 80's icon here @snej80 .....
STOP. collaborate & LISTEN.
I need to stop and really LISTEN to everyone. Not multitask, and listen like I have been.
#122EdChat#culturize
#122edchat a2 One big thing about hearing, is remember that your attitude (maybe from prior yukky conversation) needs to be shucked so that you are with the person in front of you.
Hahahahahaha! Best excuse ever. I may borrow that when I am late for dinner one night. Hope it works. Glad that you are here for #culturize with #122edchat, Paul.
A3: Partner with them to get the ball rolling and give positive feedback at every step of the journey. Provide opportunities to have others be in the spotlight and share, share, share. #122edchat
Such a good point, sometimes buttons are pushed simply because people don't know they're a button. Something to be said for being open and honest as well. #122edchat
A2: Today we discussed the importance of sharing our button pushers with students and adults. If you know what bothers someone or what barriers are present in a conversation, it opens the opportunity for deeper understanding. #122edchat
A2 we are moving to a @Schoology as our new LMS and I’m so excited for it to give me a new level of transparency with my students, parents and fellow teachers! #122EdChat
A2 Start the year off with discussing issues with intent to solve, not complain. I try not to do this, but it happens. It's not a good way to move forward - so I'm gonna spread that idea. #122edchat
A2: I have a tendency to want my actions to speak for me while many that I care about the most need to hear the words too! Walk It AND Talk It! #122EdChat
A2~
Purposeful listening ... increase efforts to only engage in conversations that put the needs of our Ss first & foremost ...walk away from negativity ...model #StarfishClub traits & always remember to treat Others kindly & let go of the ones that do not lift u up
#122edchat
A2: W/all the new @Flipgrid updates, the ability to access student voice has become easier than ever. Establishing connections beyond the walls of our school will be essential in order to make this a reality. Our Ss have a story to share, are we listening? #culturize w/#122edchat
A2 Spent almost a full day in a training today discussing "listening". Have to do a better job of listening without trying to solve issues and problems before the other person stops speaking. This is a work in progress. #122edchat
A2 HANDS DOWN for me the #1 thing I have to continue to improve on to be a better communicator is to actually SHUT UP and LISTEN better. Its too easy to forget. And I would add to continue to look for ways to connect people with solutions to problems #122edchat
A2: Take time to be present in conversations, LISTEN, be open to hearing other point of views, and speak from my heart. Be willing to have tough convos when needed. #122edchat
A3: Back in the day, before @megan_hacholski became a mega-star, the key word was TOGETHER. She was apprehensive, so in order to get her to do anything, we had to be a team. When we partner together, we combine resources and help support one another. #culturize with #122edchat
A1: This summer has been all about professional growth. I've been reading many books and getting in touch with those amazing educators/authors. To name a few #ThePepperEffect#BetheOne#culturize#122edchat
I love this. Parent communication is so important! Have you tried postcards? I still remember my mom&dad receiving a postcard in the mail from my band teacher when I was in high school. It was such a proud moment for both my parents and myself. #122edchat
A3 - #122edchat - I think in EDU people are afraid to step forward and lead because they assume that they aren't doing something right, or they aren't an expert. I can help people lead by seeing other educators in action and learning from one another.
A3b: The key is to support and believe with a push to take risks just out of their comfort zone. Be there to catch them with guidance if need, & praise the growth no matter what.
#122edchat
A3: Those who believe 'they are aren’t leaders' or 'don’t want to be' may need to be reminded of the positive qualities “leaders” have.
Create a new working definition/visual of “leader.” Support w/ recognition & constructive feedback along the journey. #122edchat#culturize
A2: Meet people where they are, be 100% present in conversations, be an active listener and offer to work collaboratively so everyone is successful. Nothing can be taken personal, it’s about working toward achieving a common goal. #122edchat
A3: I am starting to not always jump up for everything. Instead, I am waiting so others can have the opportunity to feel empowered. I'll be there to support and bounce ideas off of, but they will be the drivers of success! :) #122edchat
A3: By understanding that there are many types of communication and leadership styles and build a culture that celebrates them all. Different tasks necessitate different leaders. Match leaders to tasks. #122EdChat
A3: Wall together #bettertogether until they are ready on their own. Be there when they go and let them know you believe in what they are doing #122edchat#Culturize
A3: Encoirage them, be there to listen and talk through things they are unsure of. Work alongside them as they build up their confidence slowly fading to the back. #122edchat
A3: I am always providing feedback to my Ts to help them grow and I offer small tasks to them that may be present an idea in a meeting. We start small and build from there with bigger steps as we make it past small tasks. #122EdChat
Such good point! Sometime stepping away is what is needed. Students should alwayse be the top priotity with the spreading of kindness, joy, and positivity, #122edchat
A2~
Purposeful listening ... increase efforts to only engage in conversations that put the needs of our Ss first & foremost ...walk away from negativity ...model #StarfishClub traits & always remember to treat Others kindly & let go of the ones that do not lift u up
#122edchat
A3- I have found most people just need to Hear you say- “you are A leader. I see that in you. You can do this because I believe in you.” Then walk alongside them in leading a task & support them in leadership training. #122edchat
A3: Use encouraging and #empowering words when I'm with them. Build them up. Show them they have greatness to share with the world. Then cheer them on and offer help every step of the way! #culturize#122EdChat
A3- I recommend starting in a smaller group if uncomfortable sharing to a large group. I’ve worked w/Ts who are extremely shy, but have really amazing ideas. Sharing in a small group can take some of the pressure off. Admins need to be aware of this. #122edchat
YES! Saw @TaraMartinEDU speak about this today in Day 4 of the #HiveSummit. If you are not connected, you need to check that video out. It's a game changer. #culturize with #122edchat
A2: Listen and genuinely care. Ask people how they're doing, remember what they said, and ask them again tomorrow. They will start asking about your life. Then everyone has a vested interest. #122edchat
A3: Encourage & support them by letting them know that you believe in them! Start small... once they find success they may be more willing to continue to step up and do more! #122EdChat
A3 Lead by example and be accessible! Share your successes and failure. When other teachers see the buy-in you have from Ss or staff, people, they are going to want to know what you’re doing. Support them, learn from/with them. We all get better togerther #122EdChat
A4: Hoping to journal throughout this year. I'm in a unique position because the course I'll teach this year won't exist the following year - in '19-'20, we implement & I take over our STEM Lab. Reflection will be focused more on contributing to community. #122edchat
Q4: I plan on reflecting on coaching sessions and communications with teachers and administrators to make sure that I am communicating effectively. #122edchat
A3: People are so accustomed to hearing what they are doing wrong...get in the practice of pointing out and reflecting on strengths and attributes. #122edchat
A2: I think a good starting point is being aware, present, and focused on the conversation. If you are having your own conversation as someone is talking to you then you are not listening! It can be difficult, but it does make a difference. #122edchat
A3~
How?
Lead with good morals, integrity & focus on the positive
What?
Show up when it matters the most ... support during all glows & bumps in the road ... no fair weather colleagues need apply ... help them up when they fall ... share laughter
#122edchat
I have kids fill out postcards at Meet the Teacher and then I randomly send them messages throughout the year highlighting the small things they are accomplishing. Want them to know I see them.
A3: Those who believe 'they are aren’t leaders' or 'don’t want to be' may need to be reminded of the positive qualities “leaders” have.
Create a new working definition/visual of “leader.” Support w/ recognition & constructive feedback along the journey. #122edchat#culturize
A1 I've read a few books, began planning a unit using Teach Better, I've relaxed and had fun with my family to re-energize, collaborated with my team, and built a PLN outside of my school and district to pick up new ideas. #122edchat
A3(2): Allow nervous leaders to rehearse with you before the meeting works great! Also, develop protocols that support the leader like agendas, calendars, and organizers! #122EdChat
A4: I feel I do a lot of reflection now through twitter! I would post various thoughts here to revisit but also a private doc like a journal or page on google that I can reference when needed. My goal is to take 10 min at the end of each week to reflect and think. #122EdChat
A3 I'm hoping to offer school trainings on different tools and technologies to use to empower students and teachers. I hope to have colleagues share their areas of expertise. Many are rockstars but only in their own little world and I want them to open the doors. #122edchat
A4: Reflection critical for any professional. It is a huge component of #waledchat with @MrPStrunk & I also plan to constantly reflect with colleagues both at school and in my virtual PLN.
#122edchat
A4: I do my best reflection on my commute to and from school (which could be over a hour.) I try to write ideas/reflections down as soon as I can. I am trying an on going Google Doc. this year to try and organize my thoughts. #122edchat#culturize
A4: Reflection is essential, if we desire to grow as leaders + people in general. Thankful for @MrPStrunk + what he has cultivated #waledchat, giving us space each week to look back on the week that was. Beyond this, I'm going to start blogging, I promise. #culturize w/#122edchat
A4: Reflection is a key component to my success as an educator. I will continue to moderate #waledchat which is always centered around reflection. I will also continue to run the Wins And Losses podcast, which are my raw reflections on my life as an MS teacher. #122edchat
A3: The first step is to motivate people to want to do great things. Give them the time, space, resources to plan and allow time for them to share ideas to improve their ideas. #122edchat
A3: I want to start off the year with having people reflect on their comfort levels within language arts & identify an area they feel comfortable in. Then, people know who they can go to when they have questions or look for ideas in a specific category. #122edchat
Be a servant leader and show them you will be with every step of the way if they want/need. Show them that leading isn’t always standing at the front. COMMUNICATE and COLLABORATE #122edchat
A3: Praising natural born leaders to continue striving towards positive leadership goals. Also, working side by side with those who need to amp up their leadership skills. Working together will help the "shy" ones shine. #122edchat#culturize
A4: Slow down. Breathe. Rose.Bud.Thorn format.
I reflect in the car before/after school on a private reflection @flipgrid I set up organized into monthly topics.
Much easier for me to speak thoughts than to write/type. #122edchat#culturize
A4 More than ever before I need to reflect. I'm doing so many different things and it is important to make sure they are being done well and not just done. Looking to my colleagues and friends to keep me in check. #122edchat
A1: I've reshaped my twitter #PLN to include more educators from different content areas, grade levels, and states/countries. In addition, I attended a week-long Ag in the Classroom Summer Institute and @SCMSummit#122edchat#culturize
#122edchat A3: Being one of the shy ones, find others who need support or have ideas. Once the ideas start rolling, let the fun begin! Not everything done needs to be in the spotlight.
A3: Ts assume that what they are doing isn’t unique, but SO often it is! Asking them to present in faculty meetings or encouraging others to get in their room. We have to build Ts confidence because there is a difference between teaching students and teaching staff #122EdChat
A4: I have created a habit of daily reflections that include an assessment of lesson, my approach to my students, student response, etc. I keep this to see my progressions. #122edchat
A4: I'm glad you asked. I wanted to create a personal @Flipgrid just for me so I could do videos as a reflection too so I can see where I need to be better and also see my professional growth. #culturize#122EdChat
A4 For the past few years my reflections have come during runs or just at the dinner table with my wife. Lately these reflections have transferred over here on Twitter and it’s been great to talk these ideas through with you great people #122edchat
A4: #culturize#122edchat Twitter chats are a must for reflection; I need to blog more on my blog...I fell behind this summer and have so much to share! I also try to reflect at the end of the day on my calendar....so I can remember the little things that made me smile
A4: I always reflect with my ss so it naturally happens. I collect data using Google forms after each Unit to see what ss learned, what activities they liked/didn’t like, helped them learn, didn’t help them learn. #122edchat
A4: This year, I will do my best to blog about my 20th year in teaching including the highs and lows, I will be 100% transparent & share obstacles and celebrations. These blogs will be part of my reflection process to help me become a more effective educator. #122edchat
A3: Give them a voice and empower them to empower others. Our team leaders got to deliver back to school boxes to their teammates homes (previously done only by my AP and I). Such a memorable and encouraging leadership opportunity! #122edchat
A3: Building gratitude practice into a school’s culture can nurture new connections and belonging, increasing participation & leadership. Our high schools @leadps found sincere, deep T + S success w/ this and built it out w/ tchs + Ss designed @givethxapp. #122edchat
A3 Encourage, Encourage, Encourage, but really recognize the things they are doing. Look for where they excel and make sure they know you see those strengths in them. Build off the concept Everyone is a leader #122edchat
I have a journal that I keep in the top drawer of my teacher's desk. One side is for reflections and thoughts for specific lessons, and the other side is for my notes, comments, and ideas about myself as a professional educator. #122edchat
A3: You have to be observant. Tell others about those great things future leaders are doing. Tell them they are doing great! In my career before education, my mgr said people remember your legacy more than they remember you. Leaders beget leaders. #122edchat
A3 We use ADI which gives roles to different Ss. I usually start with finding what they like, build their confidence, and help them find their voice in that then allowing them to help me in activities or let them know how I could use their help. #122edchat
Dropped blogging last year hoping to stick with it this year! Eager to use @Flipgrid#mixtapes to reflect throughout week and make playlist for myself of things that really can make positive change!
Be a servant leader and show them you will be with every step of the way if they want/need. Show them that leading isn’t always standing at the front. COMMUNICATE and COLLABORATE #122edchat
A2: Willingness to step outside your comfort zone - For example, I'm stepping into a new role as a member of the school leadership team & grade level lead teacher which means I have to listen and communicate effectively to all stakeholders #122edchat#culturize
A3: Be their support system, make sure I empower the person by showing that I believe in them even when they may not..YET! It's possible to start small with gr lvl team, move to bite-sized PD, and so on.. It's important they know I'm here to help in any way I can. #122edchat
A5: Meeting the new kids. There are a whole new batch of 6th Grade students that are headed our way. It is up to us to harness their emotions, both good and bad, hear their story, and make their @Simmonsknights1 learning experience a memorable one. #culturize with #122edchat
Spoken from the heart, Tara. Killer #HiveSummit session. The conversations that I have had around what you said this afternoon would blow your mind. You are having tremendous impact. #culturize with #122edchat
In reply to
@TaraMartinEDU, @4XSoccermom, @burgessdave, @burgess_shelley
A4 I find #waledchat to be my best opportunity to be reflecting on a regular basis, and will make a point to attend every Thursday at 9 Eastern. #122edchat
A4: I am going to try to slow down this year and truly reflect on my teaching styles, what works, what doesn't I don't want to get bogged down with all the negativity. I am going to start writing down all the positive things that happened throughout the day. #122edchat#culturize
A5: Can't wait to teach 6th graders for the first time! Going to try flipped instruction with them to help make their transition to MS a bit easier. Nervous about the challenges, but know they can be overcome with support and a growth mindset! #122edchat@ERobbPrincipal
A5: My teachers and my @cisdSWAT students are what keep me passionate and on fire! I just can't wait to BE WITH THEM. They make me smile when I need it, cheer me on and teach me so much :) #culturize#122EdChat
A5 I'm most excited to be co-teaching the same class with the same person for 3 periods/day. We have already established how to work together, so I think this year will be a progression from where we left off. I'm also excited that we now have common planning time. #122edchat
#122edchat I know you are almost done with tonight's chat, but I just finished dinner and then was like oh my look at the time. I'm Emily, joining in from Wheaton, IL
A5: I am most excited to see my students learn that they are part of their education and can be creative in their learning process...in my class. #122edchat
@_on11 and @snej80 I gotta run to eat, Thanks for reminding me of the chat, and I look forward to catching up on what I miss later. Appreciate all you guys do for the educator community! #122edchat
And with that, #Culturize with #122edchat is over. Thank you ALL for a memorable summer. Never have I felt more prepared to function as a leader than after this summer study w/the #122edchat family. Every one of you has potential to have an impact. In 2018-'19, make that reality.
A5: I'm excited to see the amazing things are Ss and Ts create this year! Our new 1:1 will change things greatly and our Innovation Committee will be there every step of the way!

#122edchat A4: Keep writing! Not everything needs to be shared, but writing is a good place to think through the challenges and come up with ways to improve. I'll need to make like the rabbit that is in front of me and hop to it.
A5 I’m most excited to start my kids on mastery learning. I redid everything so This year is going to be a big learning experience for myself. There will be lots of wins and loses I’m sure but #KidsDeserveIt right?!? #122edchat
A4: We are doing it now! Twitter is my soundboard and outside of quiet moments at the gym, my main place of reflection. We have to commit to sharing deeper, becoming more vulnerable and looking to expand our #PLN. #122EdChat
A5- I am so excited about supporting teachers with technology and curriculum (with the help of our new Instructional Tech Specialists). It’s an exciting year for our district with our big 1:1 rollout! #122edchat

A5: This year I am most excited to foster interdisciplinary learning on my school site by facilitating the improvement of our school wide thematic portfolio project, taking advantage of our mixed classroom set up and building a senior Passion Project course. #122edchat
Wish I had a better answer for #122edchat. Just wish @TweetDeck would have collaborated. This has been a terrific discussion with some amazing educators! Honored to be running alongside of you all.
A5 Excited to change up some seating ideas, and to try a digital syllabus type thing along with my team, and meeting new kids, but still connection with the former ones!! #122edchat
A4: Each teacher will have a vision board. This vision board will be present throughout the year so they can reflect on their WHY for teaching. They’ll document via @Flipgrid and will have their students do the same! #122EdChat
A5: Reshape our middle school and make it a place where the Ts want to be and love to be while ensuring our Ss are enjoying the school and establishing positive relationships with families. #122EdChat
A5: I’m ready to take my new first graders on a yearlong journey of #globalcollaboration and learning adventures!! Can’t wait to meet them tomorrow!!! #122edchat
Special thanks tonight to our dear friend, and giver of really cool Rhode Island-themed pencils, @snej80, for leading the #122edchat discussion. Now if I could just use that pencil at school. :/
NEXT WEEK?...STAY TUNED! An exciting, post-#culturize announcement coming soon! :)
#122edchat a4 #culturize I started out on Twitter dragging my heels about why would you do such a thing but now it has gotten me into really purposeful conversations and with people that like to nut things out, to really reflect upon #learning#teacherlife, you name it
A5.2- Most importantly I can’t wait to greet our students on the first day. Our central office admins all head out to the schools to welcome kids back for the first couple of days. It’s fun to see everyone! #122edchat
A4: I have a little black book on my desk that I write down things tht work and those things that don't work. We have to be in a constant state of reflection. We have to keep moving forward. #122edchat
A4 I'm hoping to do a better job of keeping up with my journal. It helps me to keep track of my thoughts and feelings during different points of the year. I am also hoping to get back to blogging. #122edchat

And with that, #Culturize with #122edchat is over. Thank you ALL for a memorable summer. Never have I felt more prepared to function as a leader than after this summer study w/the #122edchat family. Every one of you has potential to have an impact. In 2018-'19, make that reality.
A4- reflection is a way of life, those that are always driving for better just never stop reflecting, it becomes a constant inner dialogue. At least I talk to myself all the time! 😆 #122edchat
A4: This is my first year on a new position. I'm making it a weekly goal to sit down and write down my thoughts. The long term goal is to turn it into a blog. We shall see!! #122edchat
A4. Since our learning happens in the reflections, I reflect with my students at our reflection station a lot. I also use blogging to reflect. Most recently, I've started the #CharacterSpeaks podcast. Subscribe and listen here:

A5: A few weeks or days????? Our kids came TODAY!!!! I’m most excited to get in classrooms and see kids fall in love with a subject. We have great Ts and our kids are in for a treat. #122EdChat
A3: With two new teachers on my grade level, I've started the process of communicating with them in terms of what they need and how do they want to contribute to the team. Once taking the step to lead, I need to make sure they are held accountable #122edchat#culturize
A5: I'm in school now. My position as a Technology Leader is great. I love helping Ts learn new technology tools as well as finding new ways to do things that free up instructional time. Helping people is a great job. I also get to teach Ss about technology, too. #122edchat

I can't wait to see your new room! When I transformed my room midyear I set my phone to record their reactions as they came in and it was a priceless 5 minutes I could watch over and over again as the year went on. (and I want to see your room Kristin!) #122edchat
You’re the best, @snej80 !! @_on11 is an amazing leader who encourages ppl to step up & I know when I colead I knew he was available for questions or just a pep talk! If every district had a Jen & Mike!! #122EdChat#culturize

#122edchat a5 #Culturize, the thoughtful people I interact with; all have given me new perspective. My study and #retrievallearning has helped me embed a lot of new ways to see #languagelearning, especially from a visual point of view. That makes me very happy & a skosh excited
Q2: This summer I have opened up to using twitter. 😝 I also attended a workshop for new admin and grew my network. I’ve also tried to be intentional about saying “thank you” for all the “additional” things that educators do. #122edchat#culturize
A5: Reconnect w/ my S & T design partners in my innovation wk for our schs. Authentic co-creation is humbling and joyful and something I’m regularly grateful for #122edchat
Q3: I think first they need to trust that you will support them and they need to feel that you genuinely believe that they will be successful. I can support them through encouragement, communication, and reflective questioning. #122edchat#culturize
I record a weekly video that explains what is coming up for the following week. It gets sent out in an e-newsletter, and posted on my class Facebook page. 👍🏻 #122edchat
A5: I’m excited to continue working towards a truly collaborative culture between staff, students, parents, & community. I’m ready to use my new knowledge from #adaptiveschools to leverage shared voice & celebrate individual strengths. #122edchat#culturize#CliftonStrengths

A3: as a librarian, I encourage my peers to volunteer w/ our state library association (@TXLA); there are many opportunities to be engaged, grow as a professional, & allow one to (baby)step-up to lead! It’s the little things that add up! #122edchat#culturize#punkrocklibrarian
A4: keeping a running agenda/list of what I do day to dayhelps me remember which allows my reflection time more accurate! This is something I began last year & I found that it was successful. #122edchat#culturize#punkrocklibrarian
A2: Thank you #adaptiveschools for showing me the importance of paraphrasing and posing questions as I work to communicate better through listening to understanding, not to respond. #culturize#122edchat
