a1 When leadership makes school a safe place, and we all feel that we have each others back, then the culture is set to be exactly that #ieedchat
  • rguztec Dec 11 @ 10:36 PM EST
A1: People can smile and high five a little more, its ok to do that. We can do favors for each other to let everyone that we are one #IEedchat
  • AshleyMSJC5 Dec 11 @ 10:37 PM EST
A1: Do everything you can to de-institutionalize the experience that students, parents, and employees go through each day. Be human, form relationships, lift up someone that is down, look for the good, avoid mass-negative-hysteria. #IEedchat

    In reply to @Chad_Shaner
  • MathButler Dec 11 @ 10:39 PM EST
not sure I get the question? literal or more philosophical? I literally saw it on twitter , then your website...philosophically it captures what I think Ts need to realize with all this stuff on the net, it still needs vision, context, meaning. #IEedchat

A1: Don't ever underestimate the power of food. For students, let them have great food choices. For staff, feed them when they attend meetings. #IEedchat
  • mathkaveli Dec 11 @ 10:39 PM EST
a2 the stresses our educational system puts on admin and Ts creates a culture where we are out to protect ourselves, it's not safe. That makes a deteriorating and horrible place #ieedchat
  • MathButler Dec 11 @ 10:39 PM EST
A1: smiles real smiles, the ones that make your eyes wrinkle It's contagious #IEedchat
  • JSynnott1 Dec 11 @ 10:40 PM EST
A2: Behavior/Rules & Expectations presentations by admin can color students perception that school is a negative place. #IEedchat
  • AshleyMSJC5 Dec 11 @ 10:40 PM EST
A2: Having high standards is good, but too many Ts fail to connect w/students that don't fit the traditional good student mold and those Ss become alienated. On the teacher side, there is too much negativity that goes unchallenged in the proverbial "teachers' lounge." #IEedchat

A2:I see way too much finger pointing at the Student, what about showing some empathy and asking them what is wrong on the day they act out #IEedchat
  • DeatraLee_Edu Dec 11 @ 10:40 PM EST
I like this Tom! Sometimes we get overwhelmed with tasks that we forget it is about the students/people. #IEedchat

  • DeatraLee_Edu Dec 11 @ 10:43 PM EST
A2: Have to agree with @rguztec on this and add that too often we assume the worst & threatening with bad grades or not graduating. Students want to be successful. #IEedchat
  • mathkaveli Dec 11 @ 10:43 PM EST
Yeah, it started the day we left, and was that way for a like a week or two, we didn't get above 70 for 3 weeks, it was amazing #ieedchat

A2: Teachers try to push too much "authority over" rather than "authority with" students. We need to allow them to be a big part of the process. #IEedchat
  • JSynnott1 Dec 11 @ 10:44 PM EST
A3: I think best emotional support is for a district to consistently hire caring teachers and support staff. Sometimes students just need to know someone cares. #IEedchat
  • AshleyMSJC5 Dec 11 @ 10:44 PM EST
A3: Schools need to be staffed appropriately so that supporting students' emotional needs doesn't always feel like triage. Good teachers can handle most of the day to day support but there needs to be real mental health professionals available. #IEedchat
  • MathButler Dec 11 @ 10:44 PM EST
A3: @HeritageHSPats we have plus forums, some awesome honest sharing going on in those. #IEedchat

Q4: Share examples of students creating a positive culture and climate. #IEedchat
  • judykaylane Dec 11 @ 10:45 PM EST

  • rguztec Dec 11 @ 10:45 PM EST
A3:Sometimes as a teacher you just have to allow students that need those 5 minutes out with a friend to get that support they need or you as a T to show empathy towards them #IEedchat
  • Chad_Shaner Dec 11 @ 10:46 PM EST
A2 Ss have a strong need to belong. The more clubs, organizations, sports, etc you have, the more opportunities for Ss to find a place where they belong. #IEedchat

  • jswilliams Dec 11 @ 10:47 PM EST
A3: Just the fact that the student is at school is a win. Many of our students have experienced much trauma and yet they still come to school. Lets not tear them down. #IEedchat

  • Chrisjlara24 Dec 11 @ 10:50 PM EST

A5: It's really just have time and space for the people to connect. The institution and it's resources can't/shouldn't be the end all. It's really about the people and the stories they share. Be a good host. #IEedchat
  • ieedchat - Moderator Dec 11 @ 10:53 PM EST
