Good Evening and WELCOME to #ADEchat. Thanks for joining us. Please let us know who you are and how you are involved with Early Learners. #ADEChat#SuddenlyClicks
Hi #ADEChat I work with educators to help them make good choices to use technologies wisely - all ages, but especially 3-7 year olds! I am in Friendswood TX
We are going to use the Q1 format. Here's the first question.Q1: What teaching strategies do you find most effective when using an iPad with PreK-2 learners? How do you know the strategy was effective?#ADEChat#SuddenlyClicks#ADEchat

Yes I created the lab to be part of the specials rotation and Yes it works incredibly well! 3 more schools in my district added K-5 iPad Labs this year! #ADEChat
A1 I demo the project we are going to create with the iPad and the rest of class they collaborate to complete their project. We save in @Seesaw Students & families love it #adechat
A1) Asked my son, someday early childhood educator. He said it would be used low stress situations & in small groups. Know it is successful if they are engaged & talking about it later #ADEChat
A1: (another thought) - Sometimes with young learners I also find that working together even in a one-to-one setting is powerful as they can help each other. (without touching someone else's iPad) #ADEChat
A1: I think that it is important to work with middle and high school teachers to develop goals. The younger years Neal to learn the foundations. Basic proficiency at the early years can transform a class in the higher grades. #adechat

A2: I have worked with so many teachers with #Clips#ClassroomClips. I have been amazed at how possible it makes it for younger students to incorporate film making into their learning. #adechat
A2: My favorite go to app for the three-year-olds I work with is the camera! It is the basis for so much - including big things like reflection and metacognition... and digital citizenship... #ADEChat
A3: Choosing apps for little learners falls into physical developmental stages as well as educational needs/development... and I usually choose tools. #ADEChat
A2: The idea of āyou never get a 2nd chance to make a 1st impressionā can carry over to how we intentionally use #EdTech w/ young learners. Ditch the ābaby sittingā apps that control kiddos & stick to apps that allow them to control & create. #ADEchat
A1 I AirPlay my iPad and show them what we'll do on the screen first, then hand out & go step by step - after each step they signal when ready to move on, and then we move on as a group. They also partner-check to stay on track! I also use video to intruduce many apps! #ADEchat

I love exploring @appleEDU. I love my ADE community. I also have learned so much from the #edtechteam. Finally, this is why the conferences we attend matter. I have truly found so many excellent resources. #adechat
A3: I always give choices but leave it up to the student - I care about them showing what they know more than anything else so I let them use what they are comfortable with #adechat
A3: I go with less is more mentality. I think of what my Ss want to do, create, & connect, & introduce apps that make sense to amplify & document that experience. Also love learning about new apps from Ss, but avoid app overload. #ADEchat
I have seen class dojo destroy my kids love for school this year - wish he were creating instead of not getting check marks for sitting quietly #adechat
A2: I LOVE Clips and my k/1s and 2/3s do too! So much fun! We've used @ChatterPixIt to make things come to life and @DoInkTweets Green Screen to "go" places around the world and beyond! Sometimes they even "go" into their own drawings! #ADEChat
I agree, less IS more... I actually have proposed that the number of apps might only need to be equal to the age of the young learner... 3 apps for threes, 4 for fours... etc... and then offer choices as time and development allows... #ADEChat

A3 I focus on āshow what you knowā type activities. So I use as many open ended apps for creating and that an iPad out of the box can be used in so many ways to create and present. #adechat
A4: My favorite app for stations is Numbers - each tab is a different station with directions and a place for them to add their product or show thinking #adechat
A3: I <3 to try new things so I attend conferences & check social media for inspiration! I test things out and see if the app is worth teaching-if it does something we already have an app for, it gets passed up; this way we keep adding innovative apps, not copies :) #ADEChat
A4 I have 6 @PlayOsmo stations in the #wesipadlab I explain the center rules at the beginning of the year and use YouTube 2 min videos to intro new games throughout the year then focus on a class Moto āfind a friend & figure it out togetherā #ADEchat
@gberthiaume Sorry I have to run - will take a look at the remainder of the chat. Thanks to you & other early learning Ts for building a solid foundation for all Ss! #ADEChat
A4: Yes! I make sure to lock them in with Guided Access so they won't accidentally leave the app and let them explore & construct an understanding of the app! They <3 digital drawing & it's a fun way to get them involved with tech, esp. when you have a limited # of iPads #ADEChat
A5: I use Clips to take in-process snapshots; I share them on social media and use them to keep up with where each student is at, what needs to be reviewed, and what they've mastered! :) I've also used #numbers forms (star rating is the BEST!) and @idoceo! #ADEChat
A6: #ADEchat Rather than apps I start with Bee-Bot for coding with little ones... they naturally end up wanting to write their "program" down and then they begin looking at patterns and away they go!
A6: (continued) and partners take videos of the programs and the robot action so they can reflect and rethink their work... it is SO fun to watch the learning happen! #ADEchat
After having the students physically move to follow directions, then I introduce apps. I feel they first need to learn the directional language. #ADEchat
