A1: #ADEChat I l find I often end up with "Watch me first" after a little play time... they have got to just explore before "getting to work"...
  • glovely Dec 12 @ 9:09 PM EST
How much time to your littles have in your lab? #ADEChat

A1 I find that teacher modeling sets the tone for working with PreK-2 as far as expectations and how to handle the iPad. #ADEchat
  • KristenBrooks77 Dec 12 @ 9:11 PM EST
A1 I demo the project we are going to create with the iPad and the rest of class they collaborate to complete their project. We save in @Seesaw Students & families love it #adechat
  • MiaLMorrison Dec 12 @ 9:11 PM EST
A1 It is very important to scaffold for any age or level - must begin with simple steps and lots of immediate success #ADEchat
  • KMillerSAIL Dec 12 @ 9:11 PM EST
A1) Asked my son, someday early childhood educator. He said it would be used low stress situations & in small groups. Know it is successful if they are engaged & talking about it later #ADEChat
  • gberthiaume Dec 12 @ 9:11 PM EST
Next question coming up in a minute. #ADEchat
  • glovely Dec 12 @ 9:11 PM EST
A1: (another thought) - Sometimes with young learners I also find that working together even in a one-to-one setting is powerful as they can help each other. (without touching someone else's iPad) #ADEChat
  • gberthiaume Dec 12 @ 9:12 PM EST
    I totally agree! #ADEchat

A1: I think that it is important to work with middle and high school teachers to develop goals. The younger years Neal to learn the foundations. Basic proficiency at the early years can transform a class in the higher grades. #adechat

  • StirpeCon Dec 12 @ 9:17 PM EST

  • glovely Dec 12 @ 9:17 PM EST

Q3: How do you choose the apps? #ADEChat #SuddenlyClicks #ADEchat
  • glovely Dec 12 @ 9:27 PM EST
A3: Choosing apps for little learners falls into physical developmental stages as well as educational needs/development... and I usually choose tools. #ADEChat
  • ms_carbone Dec 12 @ 9:27 PM EST
A3: for Ss success and demonstrating knowledge, I donā€™t, they do. Vocabulary test last week was to choose between @ChatterPixIt #keynote or #Clips #youdoyou #ADEChat
  • MisterCMaine Dec 12 @ 9:28 PM EST
A2: The idea of ā€œyou never get a 2nd chance to make a 1st impressionā€ can carry over to how we intentionally use #EdTech w/ young learners. Ditch the ā€œbaby sittingā€ apps that control kiddos & stick to apps that allow them to control & create. #ADEchat
  • rboard17 Dec 12 @ 9:28 PM EST
A3 I try to focus on apps for creating. One of my favorites to use Minecraft. Ss share learning through creativity. #adechat
  • bethany_nugent Dec 12 @ 9:28 PM EST
A1 I AirPlay my iPad and show them what we'll do on the screen first, then hand out & go step by step - after each step they signal when ready to move on, and then we move on as a group. They also partner-check to stay on track! I also use video to intruduce many apps! #ADEchat
  • glovely Dec 12 @ 9:29 PM EST
YES! If technologies are used as "pacifiers" in the early years we really set children up to fail. #ADEChat

  • StirpeCon Dec 12 @ 9:29 PM EST
I love exploring @appleEDU. I love my ADE community. I also have learned so much from the #edtechteam. Finally, this is why the conferences we attend matter. I have truly found so many excellent resources. #adechat
  • jdeinhammer Dec 12 @ 9:29 PM EST
A3: I always give choices but leave it up to the student - I care about them showing what they know more than anything else so I let them use what they are comfortable with #adechat
    In reply to @gberthiaume
  • MisterCMaine Dec 12 @ 9:30 PM EST
A3: I go with less is more mentality. I think of what my Ss want to do, create, & connect, & introduce apps that make sense to amplify & document that experience. Also love learning about new apps from Ss, but avoid app overload. #ADEchat
  • KristenBrooks77 Dec 12 @ 9:30 PM EST

  • bethany_nugent Dec 12 @ 9:32 PM EST
A2: I LOVE Clips and my k/1s and 2/3s do too! So much fun! We've used @ChatterPixIt to make things come to life and @DoInkTweets Green Screen to "go" places around the world and beyond! Sometimes they even "go" into their own drawings! #ADEChat
    • glovely Dec 12 @ 9:19 PM EST

Next question in a minute. #ADEchat
  • MisterCMaine Dec 12 @ 9:32 PM EST
A3: Give me @explainevrythng, @FiftyThree, Camera/Clips/iMovie, @Seesaw, & #GSuite as our core apps. Include others that make sense for task, and weā€™re good. #ADEchat
  • glovely Dec 12 @ 9:32 PM EST
I agree, less IS more... I actually have proposed that the number of apps might only need to be equal to the age of the young learner... 3 apps for threes, 4 for fours... etc... and then offer choices as time and development allows... #ADEChat
    In reply to @MisterCMaine
  • gberthiaume Dec 12 @ 9:33 PM EST
Q4: What apps work well in centers? How do you introduce these apps? #ADEChat #SuddenlyClicks
  • MisterCMaine Dec 12 @ 9:34 PM EST
Yup... DoJo = šŸ¤¢ for me. Too much dangling the digital carrot & not enough focus on purpose. Just me tho! Ha #ADEChat

A3 I focus on ā€œshow what you knowā€ type activities. So I use as many open ended apps for creating and that an iPad out of the box can be used in so many ways to create and present. #adechat
  • jdeinhammer Dec 12 @ 9:37 PM EST
A4: My favorite app for stations is Numbers - each tab is a different station with directions and a place for them to add their product or show thinking #adechat
    In reply to @gberthiaume
  • glovely Dec 12 @ 9:37 PM EST
Q4: Are any of you using iPads with little ones in centers? #ADEChat
  • gberthiaume Dec 12 @ 9:39 PM EST
Puppet Pals and ChatterPix Kids work well in centers, after being modeled for behaviors. #ADEchat
  • bethany_nugent Dec 12 @ 9:40 PM EST
A3: I <3 to try new things so I attend conferences & check social media for inspiration! I test things out and see if the app is worth teaching-if it does something we already have an app for, it gets passed up; this way we keep adding innovative apps, not copies :) #ADEChat
    In reply to @gberthiaume
  • KristenBrooks77 Dec 12 @ 9:41 PM EST
A4 I have 6 @PlayOsmo stations in the #wesipadlab I explain the center rules at the beginning of the year and use YouTube 2 min videos to intro new games throughout the year then focus on a class Moto ā€œfind a friend & figure it out togetherā€ #ADEchat
  • KMillerSAIL Dec 12 @ 9:41 PM EST

  • bethany_nugent Dec 12 @ 9:43 PM EST
A4: Yes! I make sure to lock them in with Guided Access so they won't accidentally leave the app and let them explore & construct an understanding of the app! They <3 digital drawing & it's a fun way to get them involved with tech, esp. when you have a limited # of iPads #ADEChat

  • gberthiaume Dec 12 @ 9:48 PM EST
A5: I use Notes to respond to a question for an exit ticket. I also have them find pictures with the camera for the matching letter. #ADEchat

    Next question coming up #ADEChat
  • bethany_nugent Dec 12 @ 9:51 PM EST
A5: I use Clips to take in-process snapshots; I share them on social media and use them to keep up with where each student is at, what needs to be reviewed, and what they've mastered! :) I've also used #numbers forms (star rating is the BEST!) and @idoceo! #ADEChat
  • gberthiaume Dec 12 @ 9:51 PM EST

A6: #ADEchat Rather than apps I start with Bee-Bot for coding with little ones... they naturally end up wanting to write their "program" down and then they begin looking at patterns and away they go!
  • glovely Dec 12 @ 9:55 PM EST
A6: (continued) and partners take videos of the programs and the robot action so they can reflect and rethink their work... it is SO fun to watch the learning happen! #ADEchat
