#TeacherEdChat Archive
We invite all educators to contribute to the conversation of preparing preservice teachers as well as practicing teachers for the realities of the 21st-century classroom. This includes principals, in-service teachers, university supervisors of student teachers, education professors, higher education administration, instructional technology specialists, and so on. Anyone with a vested interest in supporting our teachers in preparation for teaching the diverse K-12 student population is invited to participate.

Nervous and excited to participate in my first Twitter Chat tonight! here I come!
are we gonna talk about teaching and education and stuff? Maybe that's - I get them confused
Welcome to tonight we are remembering our teacher prep
I see an Twitter chat addiction starting
State your name and where you are from
Happy to have you here for
Hi Yaβll Im Kelsi Harris, a preservice elementary eduction student at NCSU from Charlotte Nc.
Hello Teach ed tech courses at U of St. Joe in Ct
Woot woot !
Chris Lee from Toronto, Canada!
Q1 is becoming clear from a dream sequence
Vacationing in FL now & enjoying its culture, geography, & museums & orchids
Q1 you learn a lot about management, what do you wish you really learned about how to manage students or teachers?
Wow, am close by now in Delray Beach
Really interested to see how others respond to Q1 on
A1 that learning in chaos is fine and dandy
A1: Engaging and relevant lessons, not fancy presentations and heavy hand, lead to management; kids CAN create own learning!
A1: that not only what you communicate but how to communicate makes a difference. Even you are sharing facts tone matters
That's so true!
Learning is messy!!!!
A1 I would like to learn more about classroom management and how to discipline while not being the βmean teacher"
super like that answer. I wish I could double favorite some tweets
Part of classroom management is being confident in who you are & what you do
Sounds like this takes a skilled and special teacher!
takes practice. You have to become good at asking leading questions
Thats a great thought! Thank you! My best teachers have been that way!
Yes, the way past generations were taught diminishes in relevance in the digital age
So simple, but I can see how very useful that could be! Thanks!
Also, be over prepared with multiple game plans ready to go based on student response
Q2 is about to bust through
Q2 play, doodling and failing are now positive terms for learning, how were these terms used as part of your teacher prep
And also good at wait time to allow students to process & respond
I have heard this from several new teachers, that is something I would love to learn how to do!
Wait time and proximity to Ss I find are amazing passive strategies!
Brainstorm a lot when planning classroom activities. Over prepare & be prepared to shift gears
A2: All of them were not thought of positvely except play being a H/PE grad student. I'm glad the neg connotations are gone
everything we do in class is project-based. We process as we complete activities
A2: Hhahahaha... I don't think those topics were covered! Thus, they were not addressed as positive ways for success
A 2 The motto here @ NCSU is Think & Do & I think that all of these terms fit into that nicely. Each have meaning & purpose
, Kory your response of "no"
I'm honestly not sure. Maybe try , that one is a little more clear cut. Add it to your Tweetdeck and follow.
Sorry I'm late. What are we tweeting?
A2 cntd play, doodling, and failing all are valuable especially in lower elm classes bc they are apart of kids processing
Q3 How were you taught to work with or to handle parents? Some parents can be super intense some can be laid back
Yes, is straightforward as the hashtag implies; chats Mondays; hashtag 24/7
So just asked Q3. Check it out, answer & use their hashtag :)
A3 I was always under the impression that parent contact & participation in learning is key to student achievement
We're in a chat w/ moderating. join in, Stephan
A3: Listen and be genuine. There's no need for ego or confrontation. Keep the Ss the focus. Tons of communication!
A3 Been teaching almost 10years and never had a major issue with an intense parent. Kindness, patience, let them feel heard
A3: Use empathy regardless of the type of parent; each type seeks respect
Checking for the first time. Naghma from India :)
Same here. Never had a problem w/ a parent: only help & mutual respect
I wish it was that simple!!!
(Good to see you again at another chat Arturo!)
A 3. Empathy. Understand goal is the same. From against each other, the battle bcme ours n communication smooth.
Agree, keep the student in focus; be prepared to do what is best for the student
Mark her words! https://t.co/CJm2bRS97s
Brainstorm a lot when planning classroom activities. Over prepare & be prepared to shift gears
Yes, all of us want to be listened to, not just heard Show & be patient & empathetic
Good to see a school counselor contributing to ideas for working w/ students' parents
Yep! 140 characters isn't a lot of space!!! hahhahaa
We can also use Ps = principals
Love your Twitter profile bio!
Q4 let's turn to tech, how was tech modeled for you by your teacher prep instructors?
A4 πππππ Good joke! https://t.co/2zOLnhCKMN
Q4 let's turn to tech, how was tech modeled for you by your teacher prep instructors?
Use Twitter enuf on ed chats, you will learn acronyms, but ask if not sure
A4: Hhahahhahaahhahahahahahahaha! It wasn't! Other way around... we modelled it for the admin and instructors!!!
A4 Tech is a HUGE component to my teacher prep thus far, I am taking an entire class on it right now!
OMG!!! What a change from 8 years ago! That's so good to hear!
Excellent & good to see Twitter is integrated into the course: stay w/ Twitter afterwards
That's so true!!!
I think I learned how to operate one of those overhead projectors
A4 cntd here at NCSU we get a STEM concentration with an elem ed degree!
That's good to hear! It was for my student teacher as well ππ±π»
Yes, tech for learning, literacy, engagement needs to be in all ed courses
A3: Working at a zoo we were generally taught "The parent is always right" It was really stressful!
Sorry to hear that! That sounds like undue strain and taking the easy route.
In ed, mutual respect & good communication skills critical to parent-teacher interactions And see
A4: In HS and below generally the kids taught the teacher, now in college often i see "do as I do" or "now you try"
Just wondering if any prof w/ their students are in this chat now
Hhahahahhaa... I would pay you to get that tattooed!!!!!
SAMR
Right across!!!!
Good to know it's different in Ed! Although when I was in school some Ts bent over backwards for parents
A4: Overhead projector π’π’π’π’π’π’ That's it.
Of course, that was Spring 2000. https://t.co/SLGQBYnYOA
Q4 let's turn to tech, how was tech modeled for you by your teacher prep instructors?
Still do. Part of the job IMHO.
What is the title of the course in your Twitter profile bio?
BTW, good to see many ed students joining in this chat; shows profs are making effort to get classes using Twitter
Supporting 21st Century Learning Through Technology taught by !
Our class just ended :30
Q4 What were you thought about how to design your learning spaces or classroom
Wish well & hope encouragement to use Twitter for PD is part of course & program
A4: Collaboration and areas (eg. math manipulatives; science stuff; art supplies, etc.) And ease of movement for Ss and Ts.
A4: Make learning spaces comfortable, conducive to collaboration, but also allow for some independence
Sorry Q5What were you thought about how to design your learning spaces or classroom
A5: Ss collaboration and areas (eg. math manipulatives; science stuff; art supplies, etc.); & ease of movement for Ss and Ts.
Just noticed you are in Maine. Check edcamps in the New England area One is in Boston in spring
It is so far! I'm really excited to learn how to use tech in non-traditional classrooms
A5 I havenβt learned much about this yet, but the best classrooms have been set up to allow for collab, focus, & creativity
What is your certification area?
That would be really cool! I'm from Massachusetts, so maybe if I'm home I can check it out
What zoo do you or did you work out? May zoos have Twitter accounts
I'm taking a minor in Ed with the hopes of being an aquarium educator
Time to exit, show me your ticket. What did you learn tonight
Nice! Not the good ol days of rows upon rows!!!
I learned that twitter chats are not as scary as I thought and that in service teachers from all around are super accessible!
Yes, and follow hashtags in your certification area. What is your certification area?
Exit: Great to hear that B.Ed evolving and becoming responsive; re-kindled passion to become inservice instructor one day!
I don't really know what that is but it sounds AWESOME!
Hhahahha.... I want to one day become what your Ed. instructor is doing right now.
:)
Follow and as well as for info
Oh! He teaches kiddos during the day too. Best of both worlds right ?
Ok but try to follow some of the zoos on Twitter if you like
Bravo to you & your students
