In the spirit of people collaborating with one another, share your favorite buddy movie.
Buddies for horrible reasons, but gotta go with Wedding Crashers for my favorite buddy movie
Tommy Boy is my feel good buddy movie
Fun stuff. There's no right or wrong way to be a buddy :)
1st Q coming up in 1 minute :)
Think of a positive experience you've had when collaborating with colleagues. What made it positive? https://t.co/B8KB3Gtipi
One of my all time favorite movies.
A1-Open & honest communication that was built on trust. Sometimes tough to find in education.
A1:Worked w/an amazing departmentalized 5th grade team. We all knew ALL the kids. Best interest of kids at heart
A1: Feeling of creating something together. Excitement of new ideas and feedback.
Q1 agin if u missed it-Think of a positive experience you've had when collaborating with colleagues. What made it positive?
Hi , representing Reno, fav buddy Harry Potter and the Sandlot 😉
A1: Worked with good friend for last two years, now I am "abandoning" her, but we challenge each other
A1: mutual respect for ideas
A1 Collaborating with a MS teacher that started with a small step and now we are reflecting/trng/sharing weekly
A1:Getting To know each other; ah-ha moments and snacks.
A1: open minds to new ideas. Worked w G5 that wanted to try new stuff. Took some ideas, suggested others. Back and forth
Q2: What role do you feel administrators play in regards to fostering peer to peer relationships?
Give and take relationships are the best relationships in all aspects of life, not just
A1: we don't talk about what we should do; we just do it
A1: positive vibes, positivity all around working toward a common goal!
A2: Think admin need to establish an atmosphere of trust so they can grow.
A2-Establish a culture of teamwork among w/ faculty & at times join in on conversations that matter.
A2: Admin are crucial to P2P relationships, an open attitude from the top filters down and promotes collaboration
A1 Absolutely love the energy when we have the Ss best interest in mind, 1 thing leads to another & boom brilliant ideas R shared
A2 Ts need the time to collaborate on curriculum but they also need time to get to know each other
A2: Admin need to be open, collaborative, and encouraging to foster it in their people
A1: Working towards the same goals, but allowing for different methods. Trusting we had one voice and, of course, laughs.
A2 admins need to provide opportunities for collaboration, peer to peer work, mentoring
A2 Admins who allow Ts to observe and reflect foster those relationships
I think the new site based collaboration days next year will be amazing for collaboration and progress
A1 How it led to powerful learning for students, some planned, but some that just happens
How would you have them set somthing like this up?
A2 good leaders recognize that teachers need support from/for each other
A2: Admin has a huge responsibility! They lead by example. Eliminate superiority and all can work together as equals!
I've worked at places that had both ends of the spectrum, guess which school I was happier at?
I've already seen a spark in Ts that had dies out long ago. Inspiring!
A2: play huge role in modeling peer 2 peer relationships. How they treat/interact w/ others is the example https://t.co/Mv5xVFwH4b
Q2: What role do you feel administrators play in regards to fostering peer to peer relationships?
A2: Great leaders are great collaborators. Focus on the work instead of place in the hierarchy
It can't be worse than the full day PD days that were, unfortunately, worthless 9/10 times
. PLNs within/without building. Next years collaboration days are + step. Assign peer to struggling or new teachers
. Allowing it to happen, and better- promoting it to happen beyond just lip service.
A2:Fostering opps/time for Ts to meet.Modeling/supporting collaboration&communication.
How do we get everyone in education to buy into this?
Q3: What are some specific strategies for creating a collaborative atmosphere between teachers?
A2 ❤️ when admin recognizes we have different strengths & they say go talk to so & so-they would love it, they know their staff
I agree & disagree assigning makes it sound like a directive encouraging relationships better IMO
A3: Time to get to know each other, time to bond, whether set aside or integrated into activities.
Definitely agree w/that. You have to know your people and celebrate their strengths
A2: the best leaders are the ones "working in trenches" demonstrating how to create REAL relationships and connections.
see a weakness/need in a teacher, suggest peers where thats a strength. Agreed, assign is bad word
A3 I think surveying the staff to understand their needs. needs could be different in each department. Each site will be unique
A3: Build time into schedule for team building, not simply hitting the ground sprinting, allow for Ts to get comfortable
A3: I hate icebreakers, but they really help people warm up to one another. Esp. ones where random teams have to work together.
A3-Sometimes I think it can be as easy as being nice to one another. Saying hello and smiling as you walk by... What do you think?
A3 Pairing strengths with weaknesses should produce immediate results. Baby steps
Even if you already "know" your coworkers, it could pay dividends down the road
Big fan of flipping meetings. Get all the work done B4 the meeting in Google Docs, voxer, etc. Face time to bond
A3 allow time. Spent all day today w/HS math dep off campus to brainstorm iPad apps. Great peeps, great topic, relaxed. ideas flew
A3: LISTEN to suggestions, BUILD trust, CREATE common vision, ACT as a team of equals.
A3: not just shop talk but time to get to know each other/have fun.
Good manners go a LONG way in my book.
A3 Last school I was did the Power Strength test & created a matrix of each other's strengths-Helped me understand others POV
Agree! Too often we force things on Ts without seeing what their priorities are https://t.co/1U3KSb20wc
A3 I think surveying the staff to understand their needs. needs could be different in each department. Each site will be unique
Q4: How do you draw in a negative Nelly teacher who doesn’t want to participate with the team? https://t.co/fgA5GLoOJF
A3 I have been in the district for 20 years and I remember we all used to have fun
A4: Sincerely ask for their input, "make" them participate by cordially bringing them into the fold
A4: Ply them with treats and encouraging words?
A4: Kill them with kindness!
A4: Through servant leadership. Do things for them and eventually they will come around. https://t.co/PjZFsUNBjC
Q4: How do you draw in a negative Nelly teacher who doesn’t want to participate with the team? https://t.co/fgA5GLoOJF
A3: Give dedicated time for discussion, reflection. Sounds like it's coming to ! I must learn more about this
A4 give them them little tasks, ask for input/thoughts, respect their ideas/opinions, stay positive
A4-Kill them w/ kindness? Talking time to address "negativeness" privately either before and/or after https://t.co/YSDVINsL2f
Q4: How do you draw in a negative Nelly teacher who doesn’t want to participate with the team? https://t.co/fgA5GLoOJF
A4: Remember that everyone has their own story/baggage. Try to be empathetic to draw in difficult colleagues
A4 Find something simple/practical/useful for the negative teacher to utilize. Complaining about them will not help!!
That's definitely worked for me as a coach.
yep. It's the little things that make a culture
Only wish more schools & districts took time to develop, build, & support the culture.
Why not both? I believe everyone is a leader to some degree especially in education.
Last one :( Q5: Once established, how can collaborative peer relationships enhance student and/or your own learning?
Be the change, my friend!
Definitely. When I have not so good days...I can't wait till tomorrow so that I can try again!
A5: As stated earlier, everyone has a strength, sometimes it takes a solid peer to bring out that strength
A5 We want our Ss to work collaboratively so setting the example is just good for everyone
A5: I think all learning is communal. For Ts and Ss. Nobody learns in isolation. Someone imparts or co-creates that knowledge
A4 If we keep sharing they will come, but keep pushing and asking if you can help
That's a wonderful attitude 😊
A5-It's the idea that we are ...really we are. Stop the silos and islands. Let's work together for the students!
I'm late to the party! Answers soon.
Good to be back in the saddle after so long, but this old man is tired! Peace out my peeps! Thanks for the chat!
You guys ROCKED it! Thank you for joining tonight’s on Peer-to-Peer Relationships
And sometimes we have to work w/ ppl we don't like/get along with, need to encourage Ss to break through those barriers
A4: I try to see things from their point of view; find common ground
A5 I love to learn from anyone. Students, teachers, it doesn't matter. I ask for help and people enjoy helping
Don’t forget to follow us and all the tweeters that joined tonight and feel free to continue the conversation all week long!
Thanks for an awesome Always fun to be with these Tweeps!
A-4 Involve them in the problem-solving & decision-making. =NoCommitment
Join us next Monday, May 30 at 8pm PST as moderates on . See you then!
A5 Being an upper grade teacher, I love when we have vertical alignment.Ss can focus on content & not which graphic organizer, etc
A1- All of my collaboration experiences have been positive so far. You have to *choose* to collaborate w/ people you get on with
Thanks for a great chat 😊😊😊😊
A2- Aside from encouraging it, I don't see that they play a role. Admin can't foster authentic collaboration between colleagues
A3- our house system helps foster collaboration. It's beneficial when certain teachers have all of the same kids in their classes
Thanks ! Sorry I had to log off for a bit.
A4- that's tough because I don't believe in forcing it. Same w/ students. If the pairing becomes toxic, you need move on
A5- it is helpful no matter what. All of us can learn our limits & can improve ourselves/assignments as we move forward.
culture improvement plans? Faculty evals of admins? Thinking of system changes...
