Luis, typically in Florida, but tonight joining in from Indy. I need to read When by Daniel Pink. The first few stories I have read have been great! #udlchat
Florida girl. I have lots of experience with beach reading! I'll usually alternate between biographies and those juicy John Grisham thrillers! #udlchat
Kelley from Columbus, IN. Iām looking forward to reading more @JasonReynolds83 this summer. Iām a little slow to join the bandwagon, but so glad I have. Just the beginning of my TBR. #udlchat

Hi, #UDLchat! Heather here from Cambridge/@CAST_UDL. During the summer I love to read novelsāIn past summers I've loved Ferrante's Neapolitan novels and Chimamanda Ngozi Adiche's Americanah.
Hello #UDLChat! Jovette joining from Montreal, Quebec. This summer, I will be reading the Google Infused Classroom written by @TanyaAvrith and @HollyClarkEdu
A1: Accessibility is foundational to #UDLāwe cannot have universally designed classrooms that arenāt accessible! As educators we should always ask ourselves WHO has access to our environments and lessons, and HOW are we moving beyond access toward expert learning. #UDLchat
A1: For me, one of the greatest strengths of #udl is removing barriers to learning. Making your content/lessons/handouts/whatev accessible is at the cornerstone of that. #udlchat
A1. By providing as a forethought, not an afterthought, we can deliver flexible content to meet learners needs in a timely manner for learners. #UDLChat
A1: w/o accessible materials (including internet) we can't fully implement UDL. We can't say "all means all" and then try and use materials w/o considering their accessibility. @nlshaheen has taught me a TON about ensuring my materials are accessible and I'm so grateful! #UDLchat
Sorry to tweet and run, but I gotta get back on the road so I get back to Boston before midnight. I leave you in very capable hands, #UDLchat fam! There are few I trust more than @eyeonaxs. š
A1: when we had the #MSFTEduChat this week- the Overwhelming Global response was that without accessibility we donāt have real inclusion, and in order to have accessibility, we need to start with plan to remove barriers and design for it -aka UDL - #UDLchat
A1: It is important we create a learning environment where we identify potential barriers for learning and provide a means to allow access to the learning. #UDLchat

Q2: What are your biggest pain points when it comes to accessibility in the classroom? What strategies have you tried to address those pain points? #UDLChat#GAAD
#UDLChat Q1: I donāt think you can have UDL without AEM - if you donāt have AEMās - you donāt have accessiblity, and I remember a poignant line from one of the End of Average presentations in Orlando, āIf itās not accessible, then you shouldnāt be teaching it.ā
A1. A key to Engagement! Minimize threats and distractions first. Providing options for perception makes the learner feel as if the environment was designed with them in mind. #udlchat
Hey #UDLChat, tomorrow is Global Accessibility Awareness Day (#GAAD) and there a many free learning opportunities all over the world happening. Check them out! https://t.co/sQAtLsIHOF
A2: Biggest pain point? I donāt know what I donāt know, yet! Working with educators from across the U.S., my #a11y knowledge is always being pushed and challenged. Iāve learned to be patient with myself but when I know better, I do better. #UDLchat
That is bold. Many teachers would be unable to teach using their current methods. Gen ed Ts often believe it's the special ed Ts responsibility to make materials accessible. #UDLchat
A2.2: Once I worked with a teacher with low-vision, and realized I had to re-do all of my training materials to meet their needs. The activities I thought were universally designed werenāt accessible! That big re-design has really shifted my thinking about #a11y. #UDLchat
A2: too many pieces of paper that are scanned so poorly the object character recognition and subsequent text to speech does not work well. This mostly happens when I get things from interlibrary loan or look at old documents from the library. #udlchat
Q2: What are your biggest pain points when it comes to accessibility in the classroom? What strategies have you tried to address those pain points? #UDLChat#GAAD
Q2: What are your biggest pain points when it comes to accessibility in the classroom? What strategies have you tried to address those pain points? #UDLChat#GAAD
A2: Time is the biggest pain point. Good intentions only get us so far...Teams need time to not only determine what is best practice but then create a means to implement it. #UDLchat
Q2: What are your biggest pain points when it comes to accessibility in the classroom? What strategies have you tried to address those pain points? #UDLChat#GAAD
A2: Unfortunately, I come across so many Ts who've been in the classroom for so long, and they don't want to redo everything. I remind them that they can start small - the way to eat an elephant is one bite at a time #udlchat
A2: Biggest pain point is schools investing in web platforms w/o checking accessibility. Second biggest is ed companies offering me tech tools w/o being able to answer accessibility questions. #UDLchat
A2: Biggest pain point? I donāt know what I donāt know, yet! Working with educators from across the U.S., my #a11y knowledge is always being pushed and challenged. Iāve learned to be patient with myself but when I know better, I do better. #UDLchat

A2: all the little things that have simple fixes and I gloss over ie using a smaller font because i want it to fit in a space i have designated instead of making it easier to read. Duh! #udlchat
A2. Videos without captions, instructions only given orally create unnecessary barriers in learning environments. Introducing how to find vids with closed captions on Youtube is often welcomed and demonstrating the difference a visual can make have been useful approaches #udlchat
What would work best is we remove the distinction between special ed and gen ed so that all teachers are responsible for meeting the needs of all learners. #a11y#UDLchat
But if we are working under the umbrella of Universal Education - then spec ed T's skill set works very well with content area T's skillset - and I need bold at this point in my career! :-)
A3: Without a doubt, my favorite resources are my amazing and patient colleagues @min_d_j, @joyzabala, @clcurry, and now @eyeonaxs. My strength is learning by doing, and learning alongside these #a11y experts has been transformational. #UDLchat
A2 -part 2 I'm still learning how to check digital accessibility and trying to teach others, but I find myself doubting if I've done a good enough job. #UDLchat
A2: When I was a collaborative T - biggest pain point: convincing others that accessibility did NOT equal easier. Time and communication, that's what it took to get past that barrier. #udlchat
A2: #UDLChat the fact that in Chile the technology has not yet been included in the classroom, we are starting to implement the use of tools but it has been very slow
A3. He is not a CAST resource but the tech coordinator in my school district who works tirelessly to give students access to the materials and tools of learning. #udlchat
#UDLchat Q2: I am attempting to break out of my self-contained program as much as I can in the next school year - so getting the doors to open has been my biggest āpainā as far as accessibility in / (to) the classroom - literally getting into the classroom! UDL is my strategy!
A3. He is not a CAST resource but the tech coordinator in my school district who works tirelessly to give students access to the materials and tools of learning. #udlchat
#a11y#UDLchat Alt Text challenge : A close up head shot of Mark Wahlberg looking soulfully into the camera. Text reads " Type 2 Error, Girl. I'm the best you never had." #StatsJokes
A4: One thing I need to get better at doing consistently is adding image descriptions on Twitter. Once I get into the habit I know it will become second nature! #a11y#UDLchat
#UDLchat Q3: I will have to get back to you on this after some summer exploration of this topic! So far NH Innovation Network and Heather Francis are thus far my favorite CAST / AEM resources!
A4.1: I also want to be better about directing teachers to explore all of the amazing @AEM_Center resources. The videos on AEM in action particularly resonate with me: https://t.co/W96mMoiCj5#a11y#UDLchat
A3: The Best Practices page https://t.co/gkjm7KreSm I've taken participants there many times during trainings specifically around the social media part. #UDLchat
A4. Spent the afternoon today with colleagues designing a deep dive activity into the checkpoints in the accessibility layer of the guidlines. We are using this to train teachers in our August PD and challenging them to start next year with accessibility in mind. #udlchat
A4: we are reworking curriculum for a class that often has Ss with additional needs. Planning now to knock down some of those barriers through #aem is a place to start. #udlchat
A4: not make assumptions. Ask questions to consider wider range of needs to best support all Ls, design more accessible materials, & reach out to others for support and guidance #UDLchat
A4: My big summer project is re-working my department's webpage. I'll be using the WCAG guidelines, @CAST_UDL's #Ally guidelines, and other resources to try to be accessible from the get-go, rather than playing catch up. #udlchat
A4: Educate more FSU librarians how to make a document that is OCR friendly but still meets their Digital rights management needs so they are in line with copyright laws. #udlchat
#UDLchat A4: I want to research more that I can do to UDL (yes I use it as a verb). Thinking of the "eating an elephant"...taking more bites and adding those bites to my instruction and growth!
Thank you #UDLChat tweeps! It was great to spend some time with you while Im away from home - you are my tribe. I am using AT so it takes me a while. I promise I will read and respond to every message over the next few hours.
A4: I'm always in a new environment, so I check prior to my trainings what tools and resources are available and if there are specific needs that should be met. I'm always working to make what I bring better. #UDLchat
As a Gen Ed T I welcome any all changes that will benefit my students, as do my teammates. I agree that it is not only spec Ed Ts who need to meet individual needs. My biggest enemy is TIME! There needs to be time to plan how to take those small bites of the elephant #udlchat
A? Iām having trouble keeping up tonight. Iām glad that I learned how to caption an image. Always happy to be learning about inclusive features and functionality. #UDLChat
A4: I really want to make my presentations for PD (PowerPoint or Google Slides) accessible. @MicrosoftEDU has an a11y check that is pretty rockin 4 PowerPoint.... but I use Google Slides more- so we will see if I start in Google then download to PowerPoint for checking? #UDLchat
A2 It is thankfully less of an issue in most schools in our district now but there are still schools & teachers refusing to allow students to use their personal devices (phones & tablets with accessibility features). #UDLChat
Q2: What are your biggest pain points when it comes to accessibility in the classroom? What strategies have you tried to address those pain points? #UDLChat#GAAD
Here is tonights awesome #udlchat all rapped up in an enigma to read on the beach as a favorite book this summer https://t.co/4xn4iIRagY
Thanks @eyeonaxs and @min_d_j
Thanks everyone for another one in the history archives.
Good night #UDLChat & thank you all for a great chat. Special thanks for @eyeonaxs for moderating. It had been a while & pace was fast for me... I will be reading missed tweets and resources.
"Last night's thunderstorms just enriched my curriculum," quote as shared by an early childhood educator demonstrating her emergent curriculum and UDL practices!
Child driven and engaging! #UDLchat#UDLprinciples#meetchildrenwheretheyare
Yes, I agree & am proud to say that @LBPSB , we are now using the title of Consultants for Inclusive Education instead of Consultant for Special Needs. #UDLChat#SSDlbp
