Hi ! Kate, tech trainer in Carmel. I love to knit. The nerdier the pattern the better!

Q1 The 4Cs include collaboration, communication, creation, and critical thinking. What do these mean to you in your classroom?

Anything connected with has mega opps for creativity. https://t.co/1BhxW0UPlw

Hi everyone! Julie from Connersville. I like to try new recipes from Pinterest and knit when I can find time:)

Good Evening Curt from Seymour Technology T

Exactly, and that's the blessing/curse...get an idea and then want to tweak it! Slow progress.

R1 The 4Cs mean everything to my classroom! Even in K, Ss need to be implementing all of them throughout the day.

Good evening Kristen from Carmel Middle School. Math teacher obsessed with tech!

The 4Cs for me is everyday in my classroom. It is truly what curriculum is 2 me. It is also getting my kids ready 4 work

R1 I want my room to be defined by the 4Cs. Busy, thinking, moving Ss!

R1 Collaboration is huge in my math class as Ss are working in an inductive atmosphere.

A1 the 4Cs mean a safe place to take risks and reflect, share in successes, and grow together through new experiences

R1 I think the 4 Cs make teaching and learning more meaningful and necessary for students future success in life

R1: The 4cs are a great way to get to the heart of education.

R1: 4C = no lazy students in my class. Students bust their rears in learning and don't know it

When a room has fully embraced the Cs, the Ss feel like "home." https://t.co/2YrSIVvEPr

A1 the 4Cs mean a safe place to take risks and reflect, share in successes, and grow together through new experiences

R1: These items comprise EVERYTHING - why not involve all these items in all we do? Preparing for an unknown profession.....

Absolutely!! https://t.co/EFCApXKU3F

R1 the 4Cs mean a safe place to take risks and reflect, share in successes, and grow together through new experiences

R1 The 4Cs help me to design engaging lessons were student learning not only from lesson, but also from working with peers.

I find that most of the learning happens during collaboration! Ss learn so much from one another.

R1 No class, I'll reflect on my practice. I want the 4Cs to be central to my sharing, but I catch myself talking too much lately

R1 For me, Ss working together in designing solutions and labs

It's tough to stand back and let Ss (or Ts) take control of their learning but what great things happen when we do!

So True my room stays in a state of "Learning through chaos"

Q2 What models or mindsets of teaching best support the 4C’s in the classroom? Which do you most employ?

Oh, I'm eating, watching , checking out , and waiting on my assignments to be graded.

I need to get over the fear that folks are uncomfortable and be okay with it just like I did with my Ss https://t.co/NJNOIGg9aP

I find myself doing this sometimes, too. Silence is hard for me, so I like to fill it!

I'm late but I'm here! Just finished watching a scary movie 😱

R2 PBL, STEM, STEAM all are natural channels for the 4Cs to shine in a classroom. I take a little from everything!

R2: lends itself to this so well. Give the kids a project, a little background info, and time to work. Away they go!

R2: risk, learning from failure, learning with your passion, making it relevant

R2 We LOVE using and STEM in our K classroom! It goes hand in hand with the 4Cs! Goal is at least one PBL per quarter.

R2 Been working hard with the growth mindset...great things come from failure. Let Ss struggle.

R2: Gotta have a willingness to model failure and iteration. The one with the teacher nametag can't be the sole source of info.

R2 Everything should be student focused, what's best for kids should be the question we all ask

I want to further develop w/ my Ss next year! https://t.co/x9nYEAe1YO

R2 Been working hard with the growth mindset...great things come from failure. Let Ss struggle.

It's a good thing I hate wearing nametags!

Yes! Let them struggle. They always ask "what do we do now" bc we always tell them what to do https://t.co/HV6a1c5Nn0

R2 I would agree with others, STEM & PBL - I've been looking more at 5E as well

Relevance is so key! https://t.co/zrDV0Zqopx

R2: risk, learning from failure, learning with your passion, making it relevant

R2: Failure is learning. If kids are always successful, is learning taking place?

Yep! And it doesn't matter if you're teaching kids or grown-ups!

Q3 Makerspaces are a popular topic in education & compliments the 4Cs. How can you “make” more with your Ss in your classroom?

What who thinks is best? I struggle with this. Who knows what's best for Ss? Us? Them? Admin? Parents? https://t.co/EoVL0Czh29

R2 Everything should be student focused, what's best for kids should be the question we all ask

R2 a community of students who have a growth mindset work best for a classroom with 4Cs. Fixed mindset = no productive struggle

R2:We are introducing into our this year, more creation, and tons of tools

R2 Teaching PLTW we are always Hands on projects with in Mfg. Groups. We use the line "Failure is mandatory, Success is optional"

R3: think about what is being produced "out there". Blogs, info graphics, advertising, gadgets, STUFF. Let Ss make it & learn!

R2: Also, we have a special called along with a 2500 piece wall in our reformated

I am looking into doing PLTW with my Ks next year.

R3: When you make something that is physical it helps create those creative pathways in the brain to broaden learning

R3 We need to understand that "makerspaces" don't have to be fancy or cost a lot. The benefit is in the creating regardless.

Wow, didn't know you would ask this...it's what we're chatting about next week during the Takeover! https://t.co/ZjyiutubXN

Hey, ! Late, but glad to be here!

R3 In science making fits well in many instances. I also do robotics and coding with students through enrich & after school

We are on the same wavelength! I just saw the info about next week right before this chat! GREAT!

R3 create opportunities to dive hands on in to topics. Real experiences create emotional connection & real vested learning

R3 K is a perfect place for makerspaces. As KTs shift back to a play centered approach, it will be natural for K to do this.

R3: Still find it interesting that Makerspaces now growing after so many hands-on opps have been taken away from Ss ie art, FACS

I LOVE these! Ss can even insert them into other Google apps. Also great for interactive rubrics

Google Drawings is one of my faves! Who doesn't love a blank canvas to create upon??? https://t.co/Fx4MWcJhpP

hi! Late...... 1st grade teacher in Indianapolis

R3 It's easy to provide opportunities to make w/your learners. Rethink assessment for starters. At the very least be open to tools

I've seen this shift in K. Little ones are makers by nature. Ditch the worksheets and bring out the hands on learning!

R3 I plan to implement more stem projects into my classroom, just found out about

totally, out IT depth has been giving me computers and other stuff that can't be fixed for the Ss

Q4 Assessment can be hard when implementing the 4Cs. What out of the box methods can we use to effectively assess students?

Such a paradigm shift for Ss and parents. Tough hurdle but well worth it. https://t.co/C6afNjc3XB

I've seen this shift in K. Little ones are makers by nature. Ditch the worksheets and bring out the hands on learning!

Agree! A rebellion, or return to our roots? Both? https://t.co/0mNUIH32Ws

R3: Still find it interesting that Makerspaces now growing after so many hands-on opps have been taken away from Ss ie art, FACS

True -why the renewed focus on Making? Is the elimination of programs creating a void we want to fill or is it more

R3: I also love that making helps kids show their learning in many different ways, not just traditional 'school-y' ways.

R3 Using is a great way to work in hands on experiences with students and keep them engaged!

R4: how are we as adults assessed in real life? How do you know you are doing your job well? If a S creates, I know he knows

R4 My Fav having students shot 120s explanation videos over projects. In the same format that they are watching on Youtube daily

My R4 was all 2 different ideas and cryptic. You're welcome?

R4: REALLY? Assessment is always taking place with 4Cs. It may be more summative but you may fail, receive feedback, adjust

R4 Not everything should be graded. Assessment should be balanced. Reflection is always key in my assessments.

R4: Assessment with the 4C's needs to include student reflection.

R4 I think Ss reflection is key. As a T asking questions.

Hi, welcome to . Spent my afternoon playing with and get the excitement.

R4 digital portfolios, using moviemaker programs to create videos to showcase learning, students create lessons to teach peers

Hello everyone! Paige from Angola, third grade teacher

Hello everyone! Paige from Angola, third grade teacher

R4. The final product is the main assessment. S reflection via journaling throughout is important to assess the learning process.

Yes! This!! https://t.co/jntiHv3SVd

R4 Not everything should be graded. Assessment should be balanced. Reflection is always key in my assessments.

Q5 Ts need to implement the 4Cs in their own PD also. How can we/admin do a better job of this?

That is worth repeating...not everything should be graded! Assessments don't have to be scored/tallied. https://t.co/6QSIZ81asO

R4 Not everything should be graded. Assessment should be balanced. Reflection is always key in my assessments.

Perhaps we should say, "traditional assessment." We kind of baited the hook. Wink, wink!

R4 Building in time for students to look at what they have learned is important, especially if they failed at their attempt

R4: If you are busting out the 4Cs in MS/HS Setting, I think you truly should b formally assessed at the end of semester.

R4: what if the assessment was like a job portfolio?! Something a S would take to a interview?!?!

R1: Collaboration and Communication are so important! The kids need an opportunity to share ideas and their learning!

Welcome, ! is always happy to have another educator join!

R5: there's a big diff bw PD and training. Make tech & 4Cs part of every PD and save the training for later

R4 Google Genius Hour lends well 2 out of the box assessment. Give Ss the freedom to choose what they create 2 prove their mastery

is great to get our younger Ss going w/ this idea!

I'll confess there was a time many years ago when I envied the math teachers who could easily grade work...shudder

R5 cont: training is important but not every T needs a play by play. Don't waste T time with whole group training. We learn diff

R5 Huge proponent of modeling. PD should be relevant to all and fun--not dreaded. More hands on.

Wonderful idea! Show you're mastery! For HS Ss, add to a LinkedIn profile??? https://t.co/6Db0UkXLmO

R4: what if the assessment was like a job portfolio?! Something a S would take to a interview?!?!

Yes! I learn through exploration and play. Sitting and listening is hard for me. https://t.co/8XRPuYPITX

R5 cont: training is important but not every T needs a play by play. Don't waste T time with whole group training. We learn diff

R5: Been working to create spaces this summer for collab PD. Not sit & get. T voice and choice in learning is as impt. as for S.

R5: admins should trust experts in the classroom to develop innovative activities. Let the teachers drive the ship for a while

You go girl! https://t.co/TkmmuiHHeY

R5: Been working to create spaces this summer for collab PD. Not sit & get. T voice and choice in learning is as impt. as for S.

R5 I am not a fan of badging my own PD. Many times it involves watching training video I don't need. My time is better spent.

R5 I'm the type who needs it all laid out. I need to see it all in action, to talk about it, to discuss it. 4Cs right there.

R5 Allow time/space for collab, time to create/use strategies, time for follow up discussion+reflection

is so right! It should ALWAYS be entirely about the kids

R5 Establish norms and build community at the beginning of the year to create a safe place to learn together

Absolutely! Flipped classroom works for meetings too. https://t.co/pJltojM9ap

R5 I am not a fan of badging my own PD. Many times it involves watching training video I don't need. My time is better spent.

I have been sending my staff vids/how this w/pics and words so they have a choice and can do it on their own time

R5 My best tech PD occurs when the PD is about something not tech. Let me show you my engaging tools as I teach any topic.

R5 PD focus on what teachers can use immed and let teams collab on real lessons they can use Or it's a waste of time, forgotten

Q6 Let’s all reflect to grow. In what part of your school day could you AMP UP the 4Cs in your classroom?

R5: I think a key to implementing new ideas we gain from PD lies in the followup, which is often lacking, esp in regard to 4C;s

R5 I appreciate what everyone is describing and it affirms my preference for working in small, self-selected groups/personalize

Would having choice in which badges you pursued make a difference? Would love to get feedback for a proj... https://t.co/23T2aZOcCk

R5 I am not a fan of badging my own PD. Many times it involves watching training video I don't need. My time is better spent.

My Ss LOVE Google Drawing. They didn't always draw, but they LOVED illustrating and captioning pics!

Does anyone have a problem with the new Totinos Pizzas being square?

R6 Morning work! I feel like I need to do a better job of this. Want to make it more interactive.

Yes! I am a change junkie, and this just crosses the line. LOL! Thx for the mood lightener! https://t.co/d3xQJclMKS

Does anyone have a problem with the new Totinos Pizzas being square?

R6: For high school teachers, there is no time that isnt appropriate for 4Cs.

This speaks to the implementation of badging-demonstrating learning shouldnt require repeating instruct'n https://t.co/UhcnYH7ipG

R5 I am not a fan of badging my own PD. Many times it involves watching training video I don't need. My time is better spent.

R6: My area is "bell work." I want my Ss to be actively engaged in creation as soon as they walk in. Even if it's Play-doh.

R6 My 8th graders are burnt out at the end of the day--PERFECT time for 4Cs. Actually...any time is!

AGREED! Reflection should be embedded into every classroom! A great life skill!

Same goes for middle school https://t.co/aZkIXybOQp

R6: For high school teachers, there is no time that isnt appropriate for 4Cs.

R6 I would like to incorporate more of the four Cs in science/social studies, these subjects sometimes pushed to the back burner

I tihnk as a T, I need to take more time to reflect, too! https://t.co/HHelFJalD9

AGREED! Reflection should be embedded into every classroom! A great life skill!

R6 For secondary Ts, definitely those first few minutes/bell ringer. Most classrooms expect silent, solitary work then...

R6 I'd say daily board work or as a bell ringer would be a place to include it where I'm typically not. Set the tone for learning!

R6: Mine is finding balance between training on tools (Canvas is coming!) and how to teach well with them, whatever the tool.

R6 With block in the middle school, 4Cs serve as an engaging way to break up the time.

R6 I also need to work harder on my transitions at middle. 4Cs will make it more relevant. I had my elem transitions down pat!

Q7 If you could add a 5th C, what would it be and why?

and same for elem. 4c is exploring, creating, playing: what kids do!

I go back to scouts, There was not one way to acquire a badge--learners had a menu and options for demo'ing mastery

R6 Elementary as well! The 4Cs are what help to foster a growth mindset in my 5rh graders https://t.co/f5l3KKcTZc

R6: For high school teachers, there is no time that isnt appropriate for 4Cs.

I'm using canvas with my first graders!

R7: Curiosity because we need to keep Ss curious!

R6 Transition time! Perfect opportunity to self reflect or talk with a peer about precious lesson-

This is true for Ts as well! The many things I have learned from Chats binders events Pinboards! https://t.co/AiSBKYybfQ

I find that most of the learning happens during collaboration! Ss learn so much from one another.

Agreed, it is really for all kids (and adults) https://t.co/lJOPvNoHX0

and same for elem. 4c is exploring, creating, playing: what kids do!

R7: Candy. There's never enough

R7: culminating activity. Have some kind of presentation to end the activity taking place

R6 Transition time! Perfect opportunity to self reflect or talk with a peer about previous lesson-

R7 Maybe "Coaching" because the classroom should reflect a culture of "everyone learns from everyone."
