The Breakfast Club – #BFC530 – is a 15 minute, 1 question Twitter chat every weekday. We chat in 4 timezones Mon-Fri – 5:30am Eastern, Central, Mountain, and Pacific Times. The mission of BFC is to empower participants to make a difference in education by engaging in consistent reflective practice in a supportive community that inspires and challenges one another.
Morning #bfc530! Experiencing a complicated morning where my kiddos school has a delay but mine hasn’t. Goes back to the comment from earlier in the week if only I could afford a nanny! Be safe getting in everyone !
When I joined twitter I was at a real career low. I felt I could not relate to what was happening around me and was looking for other like minded educators. here I am. #bfc530
It started w/ hearing about #sschat, I’m not quite sure how I found #bfc530, but it’s a great and positive way to start my day ! Stay warm out there friends !
I’m not sure which came first, the PD or the politics, but I’m heavily invested in both arenas here and have found allies to inspire and encourage me on both fronts. #bfc530
I joined Twitter back in 2014 when I became a @HSG_Ed National Teacher Fellow...it was essentially an expectation that I reluctantly complied with, thinking Twitter was just for narcissists who wanted to share dinner pics. Was I wrong! I learn from peers like #bfc530 every day!
To be frank...I needed more PD than I was previously getting! Why I stay? You know that revitalized and energetic feeling you get right after an awesome conference or workshop...thats my Twitter PLN every day! #bfc530
Hmm... I’ve never thought about my Twitter story, but a colleague that I respect very much,@dgburris , got me hooked on the PD and support it provides!
Basically means I go in late myself. Not happy abt that since I’m not tenured again, and I had to take a day last week when my car broke down driving in, but what else can a single mom do ? #bfc530
Good morning- I joined Twitter after attending the @lceeq#DNAMath conference- we were encouraged to just try it out- I stay because it's inspiring to be surrounded by so many who are here to learn and to grow. #bfc530
Fiddled with Twitter here and there, and then @TheBradCurrie became the assistant principal t my school. Started out w/ #satchat gave me an outlet to of educational conversations that I believe are necessary but rarely have within walls of our school #bfc530
I became "all-in" in 2014 when I had the social media epiphany that I could take professional development and branding into my own hands.
Twitter educates, inspires, pushes my thinking, and has connected me with wonderful people from around the world.
#bfc530
After not really engaging with others via Twitter for several years, even though I had an account, a few engaging edu chats got me hooked a few years ago. So many AMAZING educators, like #bfc530 friends, keep me coming back to learn and share!
Good morning, #bfc530. Just black coffee this AM. Having day surgery this afternoon. Have to take it easy for a few days, but I am grateful to be able to continue #writing and #reading.
Great Q! Joined Aug2013. I was in an eLearning role for a system of 152 schools. I became acutely aware that Twitter had a lot of potential for PD. In 2014 I went to @hgse@hgse_profed &many of the cohort were also on Twitter. It became a powerful tool to keep interacting #bfc530

I was influenced to start by the great (yes, great) leader @BurkheadBill! I came here as a way to communicate and I stay because it makes me think, helps me learn, and reinforces that support, ideas, and solutions are out there...if I listen more than speak! #bfc530
#Satchat is great! It's like a true fire hose of ideas from education peers from across the planet. It's also a great way to find folks to follow! #bfc530

When I lived 45 min from school, I would see the #bfc530 hashtag & get involved if I was ready to go early but that was rare. When I moved to a 10 min commute, joining in every morning became easier & glad I did. You all are a great way to start a school day.
Good morning! Joined @Twitter because I had to as part of my edtech class. Did nothing with it. Got ‘back’ after attending @AMLE in 2015, found the PD I was longing for as I connected with amazing eduheroes, joined #mschat & slowly built up a PLN #bfc530
In a beginning my #Twitter account was a college project. With time it evolved into a PLN and PD platform for reflection on #education#pedagogy and tech #bfc530
Brian! Great to see you my friend! Can't wait to see you in just over a week.
I have some papers (contract, invite letter, FAQ sheet, etc.) for you! #bfc530
Perfect explanation of what I try to tell colleagues every chance I get. Not being part of the conversation leaves way too much on the table. #ShareYourVoice#bfc530
A student got me in to Twitter then I stumbled onto @cybraryman1 and #edchat and my Twitter game changed ... I went from a consumer to a sharer and life has not been the same... this was like 2012ish . #bfc530
Joined in 2009 not really getting it... How is it different from FB? Had no followers so shouting into empty void.
Started by following @ddmeyer & whoever he interacted with. Learned a lot & started retweeting the good stuff I found until I had original things to post.
#bfc530
@tclarkeeeand@mcarls shared it with me about this time in 2008. First I thought it was dumb. Then my eyes opened in 2010 when I saw the power here for sharing and learning. Still the reason I stay. My PLN here is incredible. Met so many IRL who have become great friends #BFC530
Not most but there is a good number who will tweet out what they are doing in their classroom. I will see a very few join a twitter chat from time to time #bfc530
Hmm... I’ve never thought about my Twitter story, but a colleague that I respect very much,@dgburris , got me hooked on the PD and support it provides!
Before twitter i had played around with LinkedIn #bfc530
I was trying to connect with real people in science that my class could communicate with. Twitter gave me that almost immediately.
One the the best things is that you can essentially find a Twitter chat about any topic you care about related to education at some point each week. E.g. https://t.co/7S7SHSN1Ca or just follow @cybraryman1! #bfc530
Good morning #BFC530. I wasn’t a big fan of Social media. Was encouraged to try Twitter. Lurked for a while and got hooked by the positivity, support, and encouragement from total strangers who became friends. Best medicine ever.
#bfc530 I cannot express how grateful I am for #twitter and each #pln to which I belong. This account was set up at a workshop at my #school.Twitter reminds me that I can connect with educators anywhere. I am a believer in the “find your tribe” mindset.
I almost gave up on Twitter early on. Even some educators need to learn the line between being provocative & just being rude & that included me. Learned when to respond, when it's not worth it, and to take a breath before you tweet (if you choose to do it at all) #bfc530
Sorry to hijack #bfc530 for a minute, but my question fits today's theme! Would anyone care to share an awesome PD moment that has inspired you or reignighted your passion? Looking to start a collection of inspiration for others! DM me if interested. Now back to the chat!
I was an early adopter of Twitter. I tried to introduce my students to using it for journalism. They weren’t interested. FF a few years later I participated in #etmooc and used it. I have been using it for Pd ever since. I could write a blog about the good, bad & ugly #bfc530

Joined in 2013. Didn't do much until our current tech dir, @kcalderw, came on board. He steered me to ppl to follow. Read their tweets. Abt 3 1/2 years ago I became active on chats, got on Tweetdeck, started finding my voice. I stay bc I think, learn, and grow here. #bfc530

After initially going to @hightechhigh 2 yrs ago, I realized the world of edu is bigger than my own org and I could use social media to help curate some of the big ideas floating out, as well as share my professional journey w/ others!

Convos w/Ts not on Twitter~
Them: Where did you learn / how did you know that?
Me: A Twitter chat
Them: Oh, that celeb gossip stuff.
Me: Well, no. Celebs don't discuss ed issues. I connect with other Ts.
Them: They have no lives.
Me: Uh...
#bfc530
Other Ts want to know what I know and how I know, but then seemed "appalled" that "that place for athletes and celebs" provides expertise, PD, and resources for engaged Ts.
I invite them to get their stories started, but they are content not to.

Joined Twitter in 2014 as a way to share my quality #funnyhogg jokes with the school. As my teaching practices evolved and the jokes ran dry, I use it mainly for PD now and sharing what goes on in my class and our math department. #bfc530
I was a participant in @SecondChanceEDU grant . An account was required. Among my teacher tribe that summer , I found my teacher twitter tribe. @participate made it easy and available. The PD aspect keeps me coming back. . #BFC530
Sorry I missed #bfc530 again. I came to twitter at a low in my career as well. @masscue opened it up to me somewhere around 2012. It’s been a game changer ever since. ❤️
Fiddled with Twitter here and there, and then @TheBradCurrie became the assistant principal t my school. Started out w/ #satchat gave me an outlet to of educational conversations that I believe are necessary but rarely have within walls of our school #bfc530
As a member of a fledgling tech PLC group we explored twitter. We discovered it was a powerful resource library and support center open 24/7. Happily exploring new learning opportunities on this snow day. #BFC530#collaborativepd
I came to Twitter to browse different areas of interest. When I saw what passion was in the education sector, I was hooked. #bfc530 and #Satchat are my regulars.
I was at a conference listening to @E_Sheninger in 2013. Eric encouraged everyone in the room to create a Twitter account before leaving. I reluctantly did. I was an observer (in between sporting events) for a long time. Now, it’s my best source of networking & PD! #BFC530
#BFC530 To Learn about educational issues get good ideas from people across the country. I stay because I found that. I get great joy from seeing all the responses and the learning.
... and, you forgot to mention that you’ve inspired many educators (like me) along the way to own the idea of and leverage social media in our schools! #bfc530#masscue#edchatma
I think I really started in 2014 when I saw @ToddWhitaker and he had his handle on the screen. I then followed more people from his list. I dabbled in different chats here and there developing more people to follow. #bfc530
