Welcome to the chat tonight on Student Engagement
-
A2. Topics connected to curriculum that allow students to relate 2 themselves. How can I help them see the importance?
-
A2: Intrinsic motivation. Love of learning.
-
-
A2: I can see engagement in Voice and Choice.
-
will the kids buy into this? Will they see it as guinuine?
-
A1: beyond compliance, I think engagement means students transforming all parts of their learning in personally meaningful ways.
-
A2: I think about wonder, excitement, student voice, and shooting stars in a night sky!! Awesome to watch!
-
-
A2 I like to "Keep it R.E.A.L." - Relevant, Exciting, Attractive & Learner-led
-
A1 I think/see Ss interacting to solve a problem, and challenging each other's ideas
-
Not feeling too hot so lying down tonight. Too lazy to get laptop.
-
Welcome! You might know a friend of mine
-
no, that's Canada Day....
-
A2. who are my students, what are their personalities, what do they need to accomplish in each lesson
-
What does "voice" mean for you?
-
-
my favourite dessert is chocolate cake!
-
I'm a little late! But I'm a U of R Ed student in my pre-internship at Leboldus high school!
-
may have to steal that for my bulletin board
-
good criteria - https://t.co/LUprdDosQF
-
-
A1 I think/see Ss interacting to solve a problem, and challenging each other's ideas
-
Love that you mention their personalities!
-
A2 : interested, motivated
-
yes, engagement with learning begins with personal relationships between learner and mentor.
-
What are some ways you get to know your students?
-
A1: Hard to do a Thursday without. I'm engaged in
-
I am having trouble keeping up to our class, can't imagine report cards too!
-
Q2 when thinking of I think of student driving learning through interest, voice, and passion.
-
I come looking for new ideas 2 excite Ss with & in learning.
-
A2. Will students want to participate and find the activity/lesson meaninful
-
A2: Getting students communicating
-
a2) I try 2 find an idea/concept that will excite or pester Ss...nag @ them 2 keep coming back 2 it
-
Hi . Second year U of R off-campus ED student! Looking for new ways to build an online educational/professional community.
-
A1 I was a disengaged student since gr 1. Engagement is very important in our grade 2 class.
-
A1. When is student engagement NOT relevant to teaching?
-
A1. Opportunities for students to take the lead in their learning, make connections to curriculum/world, explore interests, etc.
-
A2: Be interested in learning to generate interest in Ss
-
i don't think my lessons would have the same meaning if i didn't have a relationship with my Ss
-
Welcome Megan! We're talking about engagement. Hope pre-internship is going well!
-
-
-
A2. When considering s engagement, I think about what they are interested in and how can they learn from it.
-
A2 Are Ss asking qustions? Is there a 'buzz' of excitement in the classroom after the topics intro?
-
A1 Always looking to learn something new!
-
-
A1: More ideas to encourage and develop student engagement in the classroom
-
love your word "wonder"! makes me think Disney magic!
-
Sorry - Q1 didn’t post so I’ll repost it now.
Q1 -What brings you to our chat on Student Engagement?
-
Hi , sorry I am late! Gr 2 T from Regina, SK joining in.
-
It's been a while, where do I find the questions?
-
-
-
engagement means passion and commitment
-
A3. Student voice and choice. When they’re learning about what they want, suddenly they’re more engaged. Weird.
-
So tweet deck on an iPad is painful to say the least.
-
my favorite topic! just happened to notice the
-
Mixing up my A's; A1 - engagement as you get to see Ss learning in action. Textbooks are resourceful but engagement is memorable
-
A1: My B30s are so quiet. Trying to find some engaging learning experiences for them.
-
A1 I feel it's not always the teacher's lack of rich learning, relationship etc. Sometimes it's other factors
-
A2: /2 “There r no boring subjects, only disinterested minds.” or as I tell my Ss, "everything that bores u, some1 does for fun"
-
A3: Teach like a PIRATE ideas. Engaging for all
-
Hey friends! I am jumping in late but here none the less. Principal from Estevan.
-
I agree, students like to have a choice. https://t.co/e6mPrK7pdG
-
-
A3. Student voice and choice. When they’re learning about what they want, suddenly they’re more engaged. Weird.
-
A2: figuring out a way to get students to stop asking for a bathroom break or ask "when is recess"
-
A1 I am currently in my pre internship looking to develop my classroom management skills!
-
Do it! I "borrowed" it from training as a Girl Guide leader
-
A2. Students caring and interested in their own learning.
-
Good evening! Joining you from Meadow Lake NWRC B.ed program.
-
-
I like that description of
-
A3. Making material relevant to their lives
-
The use of KB circles has really motivated my Ss. They want to share and bc all ideas are building blocks they feel safe
-
Missing again tonight! No power and an almost dead phone. Archives it is I guess
-
A3 when the learning involves their opinion and engages something in them they want to discover.
-
-
A3: conversation around what they want to learn. Hook them with content they are excited about!
-
So true! You want them to sigh in disappointment when the class is over https://t.co/FhoiMZwICq
-
-
A2: figuring out a way to get students to stop asking for a bathroom break or ask "when is recess"
-
When some in education focus too much on things like outcomes, rubrics etc. and the S engagement gets overlooked.
-
A1 Engagement is a focus in our division. and I had a fabulous time exploring ideas at a recent 21CC workshop.
-
Loving it so far - it's great to finally be in the classroom!
-
-
Keeping up my "homework" during tonight. Gotta be prepared for and
-
A3 providing challenges where Ss can choose from options to solve. Allowing them to have ownership of the learning
-
A3: Tried a debate with my students last week that worked well.
-
A2 melding curriculum + relevance to students = student engagement
-
TTFM says social institutional and intellectual
-
-
I'm Clay from I'm going to lurk.
-
A3: A strong relationship with students
-
even when you set the destination, students are better engaged when they are in the drivers seat.
-
-
Can someone re-post the question for me? I am having a hard time catching up.
-
A1: Engagement is not getting easier. More competition.
-
I'm like that too! Talk CFL football with me and I'm in. Basketball - I've got no idea
-
some subjects/currm are easierto dot this with than others
-
that's a great way to think about it. Love when kids complain that class is too short!
-
Without voice and choice, we lose developing young learners who question ideas, solve problems, and think creatively.
-
A3. having students do reflections. they may not want to talk in class but they have opinions
-
is the guru of engagement and his empire is a wonderful example for S success
-
Welcome! is heating up - maybe we can melt some of that snow you have :)
-
My Ss take online high school classes, work at their own pace, and have input on how our lil' pilot project unfolds
-
Makes my day when they do that:)
-
A3 Self-directed learning motivates reluctant learners Passion drives interest
-
-
I had to like that comment, you're higher up on the food chain, hee, hee!
-
How might you help see Ss see relevancy?
-
A2: It's all about if students are "with" me. If they're not, I need to find a way to get them there. lesson!
-
a3) creating a classroom of trust/safety/engagement often leads reluctant/uneasy Ss 2 step outside their comf. zine IMO
-
A3. when there is a hum of busy-ness in the classroom space..
-
Showed our students the 2007 video "The Vision of Students Today." Guess what, not much has changed.
-
-
Engagement, success, AND learning. All things we strive for as teachers
-
Oh! and next week we're making sock monkeys with the 6/7 Ss &
-
What are KB circles? Can't figure out abbreviation
-
Agreed! Give the students (and teachers!) choice! Even if the options are pre-determined
-
-
Yes if S feel they have power& a heard voice, they can take ownership of their learning! Student accountability!
-
Great stuff! Talking student engagement - lots of ideas and strategies tonight :)
-
A1: As a T, I'm in need of some more knowledge in this area. It's difficult to teach/learn for new Ts!
-
I agree that strong relationships are key in student engagement especially for reluctant learners
-
Connect learning to something in their lives or an interest they have if possible
-
Is this sometimes a struggle for some students in your experience?
-
I like the idea of involving opinion to justify their understanding. Always gives Ss a chance to reflect
-
believe it or not, engaged student are easier to manage. Empower and trust them and they respond.
-
One class I see two half hours and one hour. They'll get surprised when we're done on half hour days.
-
Good to know! More like mobile?
-
-
-
Hi , sorry I am late - crazy day at school. VP and senior science teacher from Milestone / Regina, Sk.
-
What are some strategies you use with this age group?
-
oh oh, I'm already getting the "Show more Tweets" 5 minutes behind.
-
Agree...allow students to lead their own discussions...they should do more of the talking 😊 https://t.co/XSuWeAxutV
-
-
A3 providing challenges where Ss can choose from options to solve. Allowing them to have ownership of the learning
-
A3 Allowing students voice and/or choice are strategies for engaging students - including reluctant learners.
-
I love this! Explore why others may find the topic fascinating in hopes of spreading the interest!
-
A4: Tapping into something Ss are interested in. Finding that inner passion can get them excited and driven to learn.
-
A3 Engagement often leads to empowerment. Ss start becom risk takers and think outside the box. Even reluc ones can come forward
-
That's awesome! Great feeling
-
-
My students loved Genius Hour Former students still do genius hour as a fun activity at home
-
A3: I had a learner ask me: Are you using that proximity trick on me again? yes!
-
or they remark it went so fast.
-
Had a OECTA grant last yr that let me & team 2 explore Knowledge Building in Math. Ss actually BEGGED to have Ls done in as 0
-
and I we were talking about the role that Expert Fair can have in letting Ss shine.
-
Sounds yummy! Never had one!
-
A4 As so many have already said: must have solid relationship with Ss before all else. Classroom climate is everything!
-
hey ! I am in my second year of b.ed. looking forward to talking & hearing from everyone!
-
A4: Ss all want to be great at something. Once we help them find what that success feels like, motivation becomes easier.
-
A4 passion for learning and the curiosity to seek knowledge/answers
-
-
A3: strategy 1 - student choice - students choose where they work and what their final assessment will look like - big change
-
There must be some plans you can share for this idea. Sounds like a great project
-
When they CHOOSE to continue it on their own time, you know you have done something right
-
A4: students feeling that the course material is valuable to them.
-
-
clearly we need observational rubrics for student (teacher) engagement!
-
I have way less behavior issues when they're engaged and busy in a lesson
-
a4) I always come back 2 that Daniel Pink video about motivation...
-
A4 Google TTFM for links to research on engagement
-
-
A3 Using an exciting hook or set! Get to know your Ss and teach based on their interests and talents
-
That looks like a good one to me!
-
-
Do you have any tips/methods that help to create this?
-
A4 When Ss can see how current info is tied to past info. The 'aha' moment in History.
-
A3: another strategy if when the students ask the questions to begin the learning - huge impact
-
True! Equally great feeling
-
A4 Meet Ss where they are: what are they doing when not at school? What are they passionate about? Tap into it!
-
Every Ss is an expert at something
-
a4. to have a voice, to belong in some way,
-
A4: Starting small and creating a classroom atmosphere where Ss feel comfortable taking risks
-
Because KBC needs input 4rm all participants & everybody is equal (including Ts) Ss learn 2 really talk, hash ideas & disagree
-
Relationship is everything https://t.co/8MlKtwv5nx
-
-
A4 As so many have already said: must have solid relationship with Ss before all else. Classroom climate is everything!
-
is now trending in Canada, ranking 38
-
How do you engage students? : A2 I like to Keep it REAL- Relevant, Exciting, Attractive & Learner-led
-
-
So true ! There is rarely buy-in without them seeing value https://t.co/XC1qAmp5aC
-
-
A4: students feeling that the course material is valuable to them.
-
Excellent point! Safety first!
-
A4 Ss interests, learning styles, strengths/weaknesses. Teach lessons on what you know about your Ss! https://t.co/oD9KECtnB4
-
That is a good point! Never thought about it that way.
-
Glad you could join in the chat talking engagement :)
-
-
so important! comfort can take any lesson and make it better. https://t.co/RtqQybvRAu
-
-
A4: Starting small and creating a classroom atmosphere where Ss feel comfortable taking risks
-
A4: It's usually wonder or fame. Either they are dying to really know, or be seen/heard/make a difference
-
Welcome Meg! Hope the program is going well for you! What area (elem/sec) are you?
-
Can you share some successes? I loved reading it, and am trying to incorporate gradually
-
a3) Imodelling goes a long way, treating Ss how I want 2 B treated, creat. class guidelines 2gether 4 me & them!
-
and as you have mentioned already, having a solid relationship with students! Goes hand in hand.
-
-
they need many options. Some engaged students dread responding in journals.
-
I have had some serious internet issues tonight. Wow - I wonder if my mom only paid half her internet bill!
-
Makes a lot of sense! This is what I strive to do.
-
I agree. I'm sure it makes a difference if Ss KNOW you trust them. A simple, yet powerful tool!
-
That's key. They're not afraid to ask for things and try new things. I learn so much when that happens
-
A4: Use interests to pull them in. Thinking already on my crew for next year..95% boys. How will I tap into their interests
-
A4 My Ss just really want to be done high school and move on to the next phase of their life
-
A4 Even small amounts of friendly competition can increase engagement in my classroom in huge amounts.
-
A4 Student desire to earn knowledge by the satisfactory feeling of doing something for themselves
-
A4: Showing Ss why you're teaching what you're teaching is also important
-
A4 Making personal connections to learning assists intrinsic motivation
-
LOVE Teach like a PIRATE. Helps me plan a lot of my lessons!
-
A4 - Use the 3 R’s- Relationships, relationships, relationships.
-
-
I am too and so maybe there is something bigger going on than the bill.
-
yes, this is so true. So many student need to express themselves in ways that they are comfortable with
-
Getting to know students' interests is critical for engagement. They need to know and feel we care Strategies?
-
Success is the best motivator for sure! It's been wonderful to see it in action this week during
-
KBC pushed learning 4 me & Ss. Transformed lessons & gave all Ss voice and "an in". KBC norms must be created tho 2 succeed
-
A4 Engagement involves authentic learning experiences which links to many intrinsic motivators for students.
-
maybe it’s a weather issue!
-
-
-
https://t.co/YpQvS4zob1
-
-
a3) Imodelling goes a long way, treating Ss how I want 2 B treated, creat. class guidelines 2gether 4 me & them!
-
is going to help me with this w/o even knowing it. Getting inspiration for hands on learning.
-
i dont always do journals earlier this week I had them reflect with an illustration, reflection happens in lots of ways
-
Ha! Gotta love the "something in the water..." years. They're in good hands!
-
-
A4: Intrinsic motivations mess me up. I don't even know what motivates me! :)
-
I always feel like they should have choice but then I thi 'don't they have to do at least some journ writ'
-
When asked what Ss wanted as next T: a person who teaches how we learn (KBC). Cried with joy all day
-
-
Agreed. .. https://t.co/BNlzDLcY8j
-
-
A4: Starting small and creating a classroom atmosphere where Ss feel comfortable taking risks
-
which dovetails beautifully w/ co-construct. criteria!
-
Its essential to get a conversation going about this important subject matter.
-
A4 - building a culture of trust & respect is foundational to all that happens in schools - it’s the heart/core of relationships
-
-
-
. When I think about engagements, I think about some of the things (like ART) that can often get left behind in our push... (1/x)
-
starts on 1st day of schl & builds: greet students @ door each morning w/smile, laugh together, and really LISTEN
-
A4. Pride of accomplishment can be an intrinsic motivator.
-
A4. Interest, relevance, curiosity
-
Important to "milk it" when this happens!
-
Do you have an eye patch? I have an extra if you need it !
-
-
I feel your pain. My cat just closed my browser and now I'm playing catch up
-
A4 intrinsic motivation = voice choice relevance authenticity relationships
-
Yay! Just let them play, they may even learn a thing or two
-
agreed. Food doesn't motivate everyone.
-
Couldn't agree more! https://t.co/4wjT4Dowqy
-
-
A4 - building a culture of trust & respect is foundational to all that happens in schools - it’s the heart/core of relationships
-
. ...to meet scores, etc, etc. But the arts and learning like that are what help all of our students reach them. We need to (2/x)
-
-
- nee to shift the conversation from teacher-centric to student-centric - what gives Ss voice power? Why important?
-
- nee to shift the conversation from teacher-centric to student-centric - what gives Ss voice power? Why important?
-
Haha! Oh my, you are "udderly" hillarious.
-
-
-
A4 If students understand why they are learning it and have an end goal in mind
-
validating their learning.
-
-
. ...support one another in remembering those pieces, because engagement beats drilling every single day. (3/3)
-
A4 make sure it's ok (encouraged!) to fail, create safe place to land when they do, help Ss get up & try again after failing
-
probeware for science and math!!!
-
When Ss feel like they have control of their learning engagement increases
-
And I learned that my own passion for a topic doesn't motivate everyone either! (curling football...) ;)
-
-
I am enjoying the cow in your profile pic
-
A4: giving Ss time 2 explore their own creativity, make connections, play!
-
Just hanging out tonight 🤗
-
Have you used any of Dweck's resources with Growth Mindset? https://t.co/DSDgdhzNiK
-
-
A4 make sure it's ok (encouraged!) to fail, create safe place to land when they do, help Ss get up & try again after failing
-
thanks Amy! it's amazing so far! I am in elementary.
-
I don't. There's plenty of other factors that keep them from engagement you have no control over.
-
that's growth mindset vs fixed mindset defined beautifully thanks
-
thank you! That is the Sask Dairy Producers cow from
-
it definitely depends on the situation, some times the student just doesn't want to listen and you can't force them
-
A4: many are motivated by needing to find answers to the questions they've asked
-
Thinking of creating yr around problem solving & creatingThey are builders/demolishers.
-
A4 Student directed learning - give Ss power, a voice and accountability for their own learning
-
That'll teach you for lying down! :)
-
. Yes! I picked this one up in my first year. It might be time for a re-read this summer!
-
play and exploration is learning in action = engagement
-
It's all a learning experience. We need failure to understand success
-
there is an assumption one person can engage a small crown 5 hours, for 197 days successfully!
-
-
Actually, no! Along the same lines?
-
What's your best tip to help achieve this?
-
have them bring in broken cars and rebuild or make faster - use the data for both math and science.
-
I have begun to make a list of problems what coordinate with 7/8 curric - time to put heads together
-
-
A4: have also noticed that kids are developing growth mindsets since I've changed the way I compliment them!
-
curiosity is motivating, personal and engaging
-
Trish from BC popping in late - loving my catching up on this chat and topic!
-
True. Some days you can try & try & it's just not in them. Accept & refocus. https://t.co/r9qug7CS2i
-
-
I don't. There's plenty of other factors that keep them from engagement you have no control over.
-
I'm hoping to allow Ss to do this in my math lesson tomorrow!
-
True, but it's a start. :)
-
A4: Have them create. When students create something authentic they will become engaged
-
A4 Dave H... students need clear communication of learning targets and how to improve thanks to all for insights.
-
Great question! I also wonder what are the best assessments to keep engagement high?
-
couldn't not join. Hard on a phone though.
-
Motivated by curiosity! When does that fade away for students? When do they lose their sense of wonder? Why?
-
So true! Check out an early years classroom.
-
I have a document that correlates (FSL) the two - I love this stuff, lets do this!
-
We say this ALL THE TIME but never get to it. Must schedule planning day Andrew.
-
so true - thanks for this share!
-
A4 Pt1senior math-- need to
establish learning as a pressing need and a unifying goal of the class.Sadly manykids will take...
-
A4: independence, belonging, generosity, and mastery intrinsically motivate. Our learning needs to integrate them all to engage.
-
It's really great! We used it as a text in EPSY 217 last year
-
Fundamental to - giving students . Right ? https://t.co/zggqIS1VtV
-
-
When Ss feel like they have control of their learning engagement increases
-
lets schedule a PD day, doesn't need to be ISO can be on our own if we still have PD funds available
-
Q6. Are the content or skills a more significant factor in engaging students physiologically? https://t.co/3bArRk2hGv
-
Did you read Growth Mindeset? Every teacher/parent should read. Wish I would have read it before my kids grew up.
-
I teach Kindergarten ;-)...also Grades 4, 6, 9! applies to all of them!
-
-
Prove U can defend understanding and U'll be assessed accordingly; have had Ss explain with for resources
-
That's why is so big these days with everything from cardboard and anything else someone can find
-
-
sometimes we inadvertently crush it out of some students or external factors do it for us.
-
A4 Im teaching ELA 9 poetry to a class full of boys. Used songs as a hook for engagement. So far so good!
-
Choice isn’t just part of classroom practice - it should be part of the school culture - for Ss & Ts.
-
Actually super excited about "almost all boys" class next yr. Unique opportunity 2 engage differently.
-
or over drinks?!?! Really get the creative juices flowing, LOL
-
-
-
Neat idea. My Ss are doing Certificates 30 to connect with their preferred career field
-
Somewhere along the time the word "wrong" starts to mean something...
-
-
It does - which is why I love the ideas - Engage, Empower, Ignite
-
sounds like a day to have in June... after report cards
-
Definitely, who hasn't 'bombed' a lesson but learned so much from it
-
circle of courage! Do you use this framework extensively?
-
-
A6: Although both important, well-developed skills can eventually have Ss learning any content they want. Success=engagement
-
A4 Pt2 these classes simply asa hoop to jump thru...entry requirements.even best connections of curves to real scenarios does..
-
That is for sure! I am always amazed when I am in kindergarten. Learning everywhere! Engagement everywhere!
-
that looks like a good resource.
-
-
we split our Gr.9's a few years ago & it was unique to teach all boys or just girls.
-
-
I had 13 girls and 1 boy last year in HS20 - very cool perspective.
-
I certainly learned a lot today! ...though apparently didn't "bomb"...room to grow!
-
And for some it never does. I have a theory that readers stay more curious, but I may be biased.
-
yes, I seem to be pushing it. Our school division surveys students on this framework annually... like tomorrow.
-
Hey everyone. Jumping in late and will get caught up later!
-
A4 Pt2 not always rock their world in the way u might imagine. Need a drive to learn!
-
Haha not physically, but definitely internally
-
Examples of "inadvertently crushing" curiosity?
-
-
-
a6. skill can be life long, while content may apply to that one subject
-
That's great! Thanks for the resource!
-
Loving and appreciating all the resources being shared tonight!
-
How do you find question 1? I'm new to but would love to get involved.
-
Can someone do a Wordle on tonight's chat so I can capture the key words?
-
I used to rap poetry (badly) for Gr 7. Same reasons. My rapping name - MisuzB It was not pretty though https://t.co/PRl7RbfE5T

-
-
Is it odd that I've never heard of Plickers?
-
Thanks for sharing Looks like a great read
-
-
A6 Ss need to use new skills to dig into the content and may use Pre Req skills to share their understanding
-
Not odd... I have no clue what that is
-
A6: Skills. Content is variable, skills and strategies are constant. (Although adaptive. :) )
-
A6: It's a balance of content and skills to engage students. One or both can be a hook to get them on board then they can grow
-
A6. Students need skills to learn content so that they can be engaged.
-
even I did not see the question when it was posted. "Q1: What brings you to the chat on student engagement?"
-
How is survey shared? Would love 2 chat more abt this! Was introduced last year and haven't looked back since
-
thanks again for your timely and deeply fluid insights!
-
IMO Feedback, comments, questions = good for engagement. Assessment as marks, stickers, grades etc. = lower engag.
-
-
Do you have more information on this online?
-
Is this resource geared to a certain age range or is it good for K-12?
-
I've known them for yrs so have a pretty solid foundation in their preferences for sure!
-
it's not passive learning; engaged learning is active learning
-
surveying all grades? Our school is really gaining momentum with this too - nice to connect w/ others doing similar
-
Welcome aboard tonight! Student Engagement!
-
Well, will create a storify and post the link
-
Also, unique opportunity for cool class codenames, like "league of extraordinary gentlemen"
-
-
-
A6 Learned skills can be applied w. knwldge of their strtghs/wknses but if Ss are intrsted in topic they take action
-
A4 Finding every student's passion would help me trump all else to motivate each one.
-
-
A little for everyone with ability to adapt as needed.
-
I assume it is all grades, and parents. The surveys are too extensive for the little ones.
-
-
- used Plickers as a learner. Determined to use as a teacher with Ss.
-
-
Hey 2nd yr b.ed student here...Looking forward to the upcoming discussions and useful ideas
-
ohh, I like that! I theme my classes like this. In B30 we are Jurassic World lab techs
-
-
Ss voice leads 2 engagm., creates branstorm.,ask. Qs, probl.solv., critic.think, which builds workforce skills & cnfid.!
-
A6: Engaging content encourages Ss to become more invested in learning the skills
-
it doesn't sound like you watched the video!
-
There is an app - Make Me a Pirate - Very fun!!
-
-
RAP training really helped me understand circle of courage. It was a great learning experience!
-
A6 I feel content is always going to me more fleeting than skills. Although they are both important
-
briefly - but I love the incorporation of snot & assessment in the same tweet.
-
Speaking of "grad," see the epic posted by today w/the nudge by
-
Welcome Sharon! Hope you are enjoying the program!
-
-
-
That's awesome! I'm sure Ss loved it and definitely engaging! https://t.co/96GggQBM2z

One of my Ss once said of , "pbl is more fun...but it makes my brain hurt more!"
-
okay, that picture is just scary.
-
Less overwhelming, yet still assessing what you need
-
Ah, the resident snot-shot, I mean hot-shot is back! :)
-
Haha! That's a great response!
-
sounds like 21CC learning to me
-
Do you have a 5 point rubric forit
-
I think so just need to reorient my intent & pathways.
-
Oh that is definitely going to happen!
-
A6 content makes me think more about the process and to me skills is the product at the end. I think process is super important
-
-
-
Signing out to complete marking S reports - not engaging, but informative. See you next week
-
-
-
I'm sure they loved it! (& looked at poetry in a new way too!)
-
-
I stand by RAP as about as essential and empowering as any PD can be.
-
-
Absolutely!! I loved my RAP training.
-
TA Trying out Plickers for the first time! thanks
-
-
as someone who hates Rap, this clearly needs explanation.
-
TA- relationships are important when engaging students.
-
-
-
-
RAP training taught me so much about Ss behaviour and how to respond!
-
so true - their brains are supposed to be active!
-
-
Way better than "16 boys & A Couple Girls Thrown in For Good Measure"
-
It's right up my alley as an LRT and someone with my M.Ed in counselling
-
I haven't heard of RAP training - just researching now. Quick summary, anyone?
-
-
-
TA Ss need to feel comfortable/safe to become engaged. Relationships are vital.
-
You didn't tell me I was being assessed on this
-
Aha, there's a difference between Rap and RAP :)
-
RAP=Response Abilities Training. Working with circle of courage to identify needs in Ss
-
-
Great engagement tool that is easy and inexpensive https://t.co/HQXR8T3RLl
-
-
A quick formative exit slip is Plickers. The only tech needed is the teacher. Ss use square-code papers.
-
-
Response Ability Pathways (RAP) ugh! another contrived name. I will research it too.
-
-
Forgot Pathways! Oy. Response Abilities Pathways
-
I was actually just wondering about the laminating aspect. Thanks for sharing!
-
-
-
TA work on relationships and becoming more student-centric classroom. Great stuff.
-
Goodnight everyone! Have a great weekend!
-
Okay, now it's happening 2 me Tweetdeck w/6 columns and 35 Chrome tabs in other monitor all crashed.
-
and students love Plickers
-
A1: To learn more about student engagement and see what educators have to say for future reference.
-
Yes, connections between older and younger Ss can play such a key part to ignite engagement in some Ss
-
I agree! I'm so grateful we were able to take it while at !
-
Centers reclaiming and a true sense of belonging as the foundation to how we work together. Build Ss up.
-
Something weird is going on!
-
:) We'll do some informal feedback conversations tomorrow! https://t.co/eA18sbvi7p
-
-
You didn't tell me I was being assessed on this
-
TA: Overly formal teaching can be the death of engagement. .
-
-
Thanks so much everyone, I enjoyed the hour. Have a good Friday.
-
An LRT w/ counselling background - those two things sound perfect together (lucky staff!!)
-
We will have an archive of up later tonight to catch all you missed! (I missed a whole bunch!) Amazing chat everyone!
-
-
TA Are my Ss engaged? If not, change directions and make them interested in their learning!
-
TA Integral 2 remember importance of play/discovery/joy when prepping for report cards & summ. assessments!
-
-
Goodnight everyone, thanks for the great resource links tonight.
-
it can but it can also be part of helping open up ideas for Ss. All have their place in learning
-
I think they were worried about sitting in the front row ...
