A1 What's best for kids? How can I make it fun? Is there any chocolate raspberry cheesecake on the menu?
A1-Great Q1-I'm nervous that I'm really having to think hard about it. Not sure if I'm prioritizing well from moment to moment

Hi, Lisa! Thanks for being here!
Q1: How does this affect me, my family, and/or my job?
for sure! Watching the play in game tonight?
Professionally, students are always the priority. I'm always asking what will help students, AND teachers.
great having the opportunity to share with this team
A1: is it something I'm passionate about and does it positively impact me and those closest to me
A1: Also, what is the most urgent need. Kinda like logistical triage.
A1: Do I have enough room on my plate to devote the time required to make it great?!
A1 Will it benefit my students, teachers or other leaders to be better than they are now?. What will allow others to grow?
I know what you mean. Asking self: "If I do this, am I honoring what I value, & will have energy to do it all?"
YES! I struggle with keeping family first - I need accountability with that!
A1: Personally, family and friends are always the priority. After that, I take things as they come.
Great points! Begin with the End in Mind!
A1:What is our desired outcome?
That's why we are here - and here for each other!
A1: the most precious commodity we have is our time, wherever we spend our time reveals our priorities
you too! Didn't see you today
we don't want to hear excuses Gary. KIDDING. Congrats!!!
A1: I also try to be proactive, what steps can I take now to prevent issues later?
A1:I agree with so many-I don't think I do great w/this.Also think imp not just quantity-minor issues might be of most imp to some
I agree - I tend to look back at my calendar and see where I spent the most time - and the least!
A1:Kids! Also mind mapping helps connect tasks &streamline based on organization priorities, needs &personal/family goals.
A1: It can be easy to get distracted w/ the "swirl" in Educ. Must always prioritize S learning. And thats not test scores either.
Will resolving an issue help the team or a team member "take the ball and run!"
***Q2 is coming up in one minute!
Ah yes, making something great is a choice. Always good to reserve enough time to make it great
I like that - there's a sense of team-building in this!
A1: What is best for students?--as educator. As a person-- do I have balance in my life for those I love?
A1 A1 2 things: what's best for student learning & does it align with my mission statement
A1: frankly I struggle to keep a work/life balance. Keeping up is hard & I hate doing managerial tasks while Ss & Ts are there
Hi Lori from Canal Winchester, joining late just got home from a Harlem Wizards ball game where represented CW staff!!
A1: Does it benefit our overall organization?
Absolutely! Glad you are still in the game!
the growth often occurs where the most (positive) attention is given. Good to reflect on that!
Awesome to know you have a mission statement for yourself!
Growth as a priority is something I wish more admins would focus on. Had a great convo w/ about this
Glad to be here. Love a good Twitter chat!
A1: Always a focus on what's going to provide long-term, sustainable change.
In addition to how we spend out time you can also include how visible we are in the buildings or classrooms
A1 - a potential question to ask when determining a priority is: Who else shares this as a priority? And why?
Harlem Wizards are great! Always a good time!
Great point! Hope all is well with you, Doug!
Thanks Neil. Once an educator, always an educator!!
A1 actually it's frogs and rocks. Get the tough stuff done (frogs ) so I can focus on big stuff (rocks).
your are on a roll! Three great responses!
A2 Consistency speaks volumes! Stay true to what you hold dear as a priority!
A2: make the passion you have for your priorities clear to anyone who is 'watching'.
A2: Share your mission by making it real to others. Branding!
A2: I try to be transparent with my priorities, and let people know what's going on. Also not afraid to admit when I make mistakes
A2: just show them my Google calendar 😁
A1 for something to be a priority in my life, it has to be personally fulfilling to me (family time, fitness, faith, job)
A2 - if it's a priority for you, it's embedded in your character.
A2: actions speak louder than words -act on your priorities and folks will recognize what's important to you.
A2: Like writing ~ if it's not clearly stated its on the 'author'
A2: Write it down, post it and verbalized it!
A2: sums it up pretty well! https://t.co/NsJEgBKtSL
A1: the most precious commodity we have is our time, wherever we spend our time reveals our priorities
Thanks for being here Lori
A2: The priorities need to be relevant, meaningful, and consistent with my goals.
A2: how I spend my time, what I commit to, what I say wait/no to...all reveal my priorities
A2: talk to people through direct communication. If relationships are strong, then message will be clear and direct!
If your organization and even your personal goals including family is successful and happy.
It is for me - I need help with this area!
A2: I've made a goal to dial in when talking w/ people instead of being distracted by tech.
A2: my kids (6 of my own & 600 Ss) make me a better teacher. I connect with them & listen to what they need daily.
A2 If you have clear priorities and pursue them, your actions will be evident to others.
A2 Communicate. Do what I promise to do.
A2: I created and posted Learning Targets in my office door
Thanks! It's great to be here! Trying to catch up!!
I try to share my "mission". I'm not shy about sharing what I want others to experience.
A2: I always let people know what my vision and focus is. I do this through my actions. Those often speak the loudest.
A2: I state them, out loud. I routinely tell my Ss, "YOU are why I am here. I care about YOU and your learning and growth."
A2: it is important for students to know you are always the priority. Then you actions and the amount of time spent speaks for you
A2 Don't just tell me what is important...show me what is important. You can't talk yourself out of what you behave yourself in to
Share them and make them visible. If you're passionate about them, then don't hide them!
A2: Short term priorities are listed on my office whiteboard. Long term priorities are reflected in consistent actions/questions.
A2: it's evident in how one leads, especially when you're involved with the priorities
I agree! https://t.co/j3MsB5sDRx
A2 If you have clear priorities and pursue them, your actions will be evident to others.
A2: Constant reminder and accountability to myself. Actually my my the background on my lock screen
A2: be transparent in what you value but also walk the walk-be a model for your staff and students
Love that you made it a point to first say that relationships have to be strong first.
A2 by authentically living out a commitment to the priorities
A2. These are tough! Carve out nonnegotiable time for priorities. Time w family and church. What helps Ss (break away from email).
A2: As you interact with students & staff, community too, they can hear it in your voice and feel it in your pulse. They'll know.
Remember all, Ohio is July at - 1 of largest EdCamps in the country. additions this year includes Tweetup
yep! Mine is shared with my school district! I'm an open 📖.
A2 purposeful references to the vision. Verbally asking if it's what's best for kids. Reflective conversations w/stakeholders
A2 "Don't tell me, show me."
It is so important to listen to hear, not respond. https://t.co/lYHEwMHHcF
A2: I've made a goal to dial in when talking w/ people instead of being distracted by tech.
A2: Also stay accessible to my Ss thru Google Classroom, so I answer questions and offer feedback evenings, weekends.
So important! If not for them, then why? https://t.co/dReFZfBLxa
A2: I state them, out loud. I routinely tell my Ss, "YOU are why I am here. I care about YOU and your learning and growth."
A2-Connect priorities to My word for 2016 is CELEBRATE-commit to the word, live it
- hope you can make the edcamp!
That's how I decided on partially. 4 indicators Other factors I give out as a Consultant.
A2: If your actions dont align with your words, people will know you've got your priorities wrong.
love this idea! Posting learning targets as a leader shows what you value that day! Going to steal that!
A2: I make sure to put Ss first and show that I care about my Ss as a person; academically, emotionally, physically...
A2: students/educators are excellent judges of genuineness - consistency of actions and words are a must
A2: While I stay accessible, I do take time away for family, too. Ss know that, too.
A2 actions speak louder than words so what/how you spend your time show your priorities.
Wow! Great point - our is a great filter or window to our priorities!
A2:I try to make priorities public.&make my mind maps into linear representations so they don't have to decipher my pics/arrows.
A2: You have to live it/say it aloud, both at school and at home at every opportunity. Align priorities by action.
These answers for q2 are awesome!
A2: Priorities manifest in your actions and the passion you express
Steal away.... https://t.co/vINKEr5nLI
love this idea! Posting learning targets as a leader shows what you value that day! Going to steal that!
I agree! has made the district priorities very clear this year!
A2:Don't assume adults know, just like you can't with Ss.Share and show consistency & others will know where and what you stand for
A2: Action Expresses Priority!
it's the base of a great school community. Need to have connections. Know your friends and foes. Work with both.
Mindfulness is the best way to communicate to those around you that they are a priority to you.
I agree - I tend to ask questions that help me get better!
You will enjoy . I come from NYS and often visit my Ohio friends.
A2: We talk about our priorities. We collectively agree to them. We hold each other accountable. We share. https://t.co/T5ERwCCX1d
Monica - we better see you there! Bring all your friends!
❤️ . My classroom word is Discover. My Ss & I are living it too https://t.co/nHOWZ3SGzf

#3 *nods head vigorously* or 🍰StrawberryCheesecake w/Chocolate sauce. #1 + #2 MIGHT be impt. I guess. 😮😬😐🍎
A2: to be serious, look at your credit card statement. That will tell you quite a bit about your priorities.
What? Heck yeh! All teachers are invited to this! July 11 - website will be out soon! Social on Friday before
***Q3 is coming up in one minute!
A2 The relationships made and honed with children each day model priorities
We would love to learn with you, Bethany!
You can often see me writing about priorities. I've been writing a series- Clearing A Path. Today's https://t.co/Vd23XxSoSb A2
Go Toledo! Just started a newTwitter chat for Perrysburg in NW Ohio. Feel free to jump in if you can Sunday 7pm
Thanks John! Modeling is a large part of leadership
And I can connect it to mine-. Celebrate is a great word, Jacki.
A3 TIME there's sometimes never enough of it
So are we! We have great network opps set up for Friday night & during lunch Saturday
A3: anything & everything, but I would say time and trying new things. Must give it time/attention to grow
A3: Administrative tasks vs being in the halls and classrooms is always an issue as a principal. Have to learn a little "triage"
A3: People who are disconnected from what really happens in a school. Unfortunately, they lose their focus on students.
A3: other people's priorities
Q3: I find myself completely absorbed with each project.
A3: Competing agendas and new frameworks that challenge my current priorities.
YES! Come one, come all! We need everyone from in attendance.
Jumping in late. John from the ILC. Great topic tonight!
A3: discipline issues. Maintenance problems. 1 teacher who refuses to buy in. Reality. Visions need to account for life issues.
A3: sleep...it really should be optional.
A3 THE day. You have everything prioritized and then THE SAY happens!
A3 daily tasks-email, paperwork, meetings, budgeting
A3. For myself unfortunately "other" things may tend to get in the way. Such things as the daily grind of life.
A3: My wish to "do it all" and the reality that there are 24 hours in a day.
When someone else's created crisis becomes mine! Ugh!
A3: Honestly, default behavior. Working to stay "Above the Line" is about about being intentional and recognizing
A3: Difference in others priorities
A3: W.I.N philosophy- what's important now - priorities may be fluid
A3 also seems like sometimes I prioritize things that should have waited
A3 Distractions, short cuts, noise, lack of focus competing values.
A3: "Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans" Small 'must do' get in our way.
A3 Negativity attempts to thwart my priorities. But I'm too strong. My superpowers overcome these haters. Relationships win!
A3: menusha; my struggle with letting go of tasks that others can easily help me with
have to have balance to be any good. A must. Make it a priority!
Well hello! Glad you jumped in! I bet will be busy retweeting you!
A3: Things we don't stop doing..we are always adding but we need to also take things away....great chat!
A3: the unexpected. You have a prioritized plan, then the fire alarm malfunctions. During lunch. Twice. Priorities quickly change
A3: other people's priorities
A3 Procrastination is a big priority killer, along with misplacing priorities in the first place.
A3 "The loudest squeaky wheel" which may not need the most immediate attention. Makes prioritizing challenging!
A3: Time and other people's priorities clashing, which sometimes requires additional time
A3: being a leader and not a manager. As leaders, we need to model priorities for others to see
Yes!!! This is my problem. I tried cutting back DRASTICALLY in college. mono, strep, & 4 weeks later, I learned.
Alisa Simeral joining late! Agree whole-heartedly!! https://t.co/xpl7DjrL00
A3: sleep...it really should be optional.
Another person's crisis is often my competing agenda. https://t.co/yt1cBZ74p3
When someone else's created crisis becomes mine! Ugh!
A3: audits, restrictions by orc, time bound items, budget constraints
Thanks, Doug - we have to get in the habit of saying no and creating the stop doing list!
A3: not sure if this is healthy but the expectations of others often challenge what I prioritize.
definitely feeling that this week!
A3: Time! Others ideas, other random changes during the day.
A3: Being lazy for a few minutes. Once I start straying from my (home)work, I can't seem to focus back in on it.
A3 trying to keep up with state mandates which take away from time helping students
A3: Competitive spirit. Not wanting to fall behind or miss new innovative ideas.
When deadlines get attached to lower priority items, or mandatory procedural tasks are assigned
Words of wisdom https://t.co/vYS8qUNcvD
A3: being a leader and not a manager. As leaders, we need to model priorities for others to see
I'm working on it. I think I'm getting better . . . baby step by baby step. Maybe I'll figure it out by retirement!
Love for reminding me to "Shift the Monkey"
A3: Trying to do it all & not prioritizing your agenda.
A3: Taking shortcuts and not putting people first!
AMEN--saying 'no' or 'gotta pass' is tough. Building a network of key people to delegate to is key.
You are a superhero, Brian!
A3 Not being able to see the forest for the trees.
A3: political mandates from district/state level inconsistent from student-centered decisions. Resistors to change.
A3: Personally, giving too much and it being taken advantage of, and then you reprioritize or rethink how you do things
A3:Having priority "silos" instead of a few overarching priorities that cross all aspects of my life.ex. "Equity for all children"
A3.1: settling in and willing to accept visions that may not deliver the most complete message
A3: ourselves. We tend to put us before everyone else. We need to see value in others and show them we see it.
A3 part 2... or moving targets
how is what I want to know? Everything I do I feel like is required.
A3: competition vs. collaboration
A3: also, Learning something new as I listen to the more experienced around me. I do a lot of listening.
A3: People who do not realize the value of relationships as the root of the work we do.
This goes right along with having someone else's priorities layered on top of your own.
A3 Making big or permanent decisions based on temporary emotions or priorities
Agreed! I sometimes have a hard time calming the old athlete spirit in me! https://t.co/lNx6Stnhq4
A3: Competitive spirit. Not wanting to fall behind or miss new innovative ideas.
You will get it done in 1 day! You won't be able to put it down!
Virtually on the chat or you've gotten close to ppl in OH bc of the chat and now visit. Like a college chum.
Great to read it with your team - then you can remind everyone of it!
A3 saying yes instead of empowering others to lead a charge
A3: other people's "stuff". It's one thing to be willing to be a team player, but not when it turns into being taken advantage of
A3 impromptu meetings, communicating with parents or other teachers, discipline issues, something always comes up!
..delegating is sooo difficult!
A3 cont: Depending on our position our focus may shift from situation to situation. Be prepared for change and obstacles.
***Q4 is coming up in one minute!
Seriously...in education....no relationship, no learning. I don't care who you are. It is ALWAYS about relationships.
A3: We must believe that "We are all in this TOGETHER."
I live on Long Island but grew up in Syracuse.
it's something both my students and I struggle with - making decisions off of emotions. Sometimes the heart wins
Its like planning a Theme based Unit except it's for life + not just the ClassRM.
A4: Realizing what is most important to focus energy on as a teacher & with my family, and in general to maintain balance
A4 the love I share with my family :) overall sense of emotional and physical peace and well-being
A4: students, family, personal goals
or saying yes and placing someone else in charge without consulting them...can equal friction!
A4: Being with Ss and Ts as often as possible. Listening. Building relationships. Being student focused.
A4: my students help remind me what is truly important everyday through conversations and smiles. Lists are also my best friend!
A4: A focus on our family!

A4: Reading with my son, almost every night. Family dinner. Smiles of my Ss as they enter my room.
A4 -- Not to be cliche, but the kids. Sometimes you can't truly value your own priorities until you take on someone else's.
A4: Google keep. Google calendar. Reminders. Task list. Deadlines. Pop up reminders. Breaking down big tasks over time.
A4: A passion for creating relevant learning opportunities for students which gives me purpose and motivation to keep going!
A4: Focus, mission, vision, organization, flexibility, perspective, and balance.
. A4: Transparent relationships with others provide accountability toward maintaining our priorities!
A4: posting my goals and visions to live by. Seeing them walking in and out of office serves as a reminder of values
A4: Staying connected to Ts who are engaged in the work of advocating for all Ss helps me maintain my priorities.
A4 results that motivate for more focus, personal interactions to remind me of 'why', reminders to focus (people, notes, etc)
District goals and plans..staying focused
A4: Connecting with like minded educators. That always helps keep me focused on what is a priority.
A4: wandering during downtime - seeing my students in their art classes - that's joy on their faces
A4: For priorities that I care about, it's about building and maintaining relationships with others. Everything else: Deadlines.
A4 Write down your priorities and place the list where you are regularly reminded. Also have someone to hold you accountable.
I am a huge list-maker and list-user. Big, practical help.
Greg Garris, Asst. Principal from Worthington jumping joining late.
A4: taking a few mins to myself to focus on what's important. has great tips on this in his book
A4: Focus, vision, reflection, downtime, & supportive team
Q4-In Hilliard we've had the benefit of R Factor training with R1 is "press pause" great way to focus on priorities
A4: I always prioritize relationships & serving my team. If something is related to one of those things, I try to put it first
A4 the vision, feedback, reflection
I know it is a silly answer....but post-it notes are my friend. Colors keep me organized and priorities are met!
A4: Setting up a shared calendar with my wife to keep tabs on family and work events has really helped us keep things straight
A4. In no particular order: students, family, WIFE, teachers and those in my PLN (you know who you are & what you mean to me)!!
A4 Some structure (scheduling) Friends & colleagues honoring my commitments, balancing stress, nutrition & fitness
A4: walking through hallways and seeing Ss actively engaged in a lesson. Hearing Ts discussing priorities in the lounge. It works.
A3: I hate😳to be the one to say it... But God is a factor in prioritizing.🕌Sorry😐
🍎+👨👩👦👦+👬👭is impt, too.
Glad you're here! Welcome!
Staying true to your beliefs and values
