Welcome to #waledchat. Phil @MrPStrunk created this chat. We reflect on the positive, and how to be better. It is a great chat. Glad you joined us tonight.
A2: I ensure that every T and S I work with knows that I believe in them. I know learning is tough, especially when you're seeing something new, but I believe in them 100%, everyday, every time.
#waledchat
A2: I tell stories that they can relate to. I work to design tasks that are relevant to their interests. I know what is was like to be a middle schooler, so I can empathize with them. Middle schoolers need a listening ear. I want to be that for them. #waledchat
A2: I don't give up on them, so they don't give up on themselves. I am also always fighting for the next best thing - staying persistent in the face of adversity & keeping my focus on my students. #waledchat

A2 - Being a critical consumer of information is something we could all use...cuts down on believing information that has no evidence of effectiveness; whether its a myth of education (learning styles) or a classroom strategy that isn't effective.
#waledchat
A2: I’m all about connecting with Ss and Ts. As well, in the classroom, I make sure that Ss have real world connections to the content for relatability. #waledchat
A2- I feel like I am able to use engagement and a wide variety of activities to keep kids interested in class. Engagement usually gets buy in from kids which makes the learning so much more fun! #waledchat
I use my one word strength to ensure I’m not commuting education malpractice! My students deserve to have the new learning adventures, to be as excited about learning as I am and to see the possibilities out of their desks! #waledchat
A1: I care about my students, and I try to emphasize kindness in my classroom. I have a poster in my room about how I think about my rockstars and then know that they deserve my best on a daily basis. #waledchat
A2 - Every student who walks into our school knows I’m always going to smile, say “hi”, provide help and never be mad. We pass the positivity. #waledchat
A2: Enthusiasm is a magnet! If I’m overflowing with joy and excitement about our lesson, I bet there’s a greater chance you might be as well! #waledchat
A2: Infinite forgiveness: Every day and every moment is a new chance. I give forgiveness because I want that back from my students when I mess up. It's powerful to see kids who get in trouble a lot realize that you'll love them no matter what happens. #waledchat
A2 Because i'm always learning something new, my Ss get new awesome experiences on a regular basis. I also get to model how failure is no big deal #waledchat
A2: While I stive to maintain a schedule to support my Ss needs I am also flexible to their needs and will change my schedule to support them in anyway possible. #waledchat
A2: Being an advocator, my students know I will do what I need to do to make them feel safe and supported and successful whether they are a student who identifies as LGBTQ+ or with speical needs! I fight in a positive way!! #waledchat
A2: I walk around with a smile & positive attitude as I greet kiddos (PK-12) all throughout the day. I try to shine a little sunshine into their day since we never really know who needs it on any given day. #waledchat
A2: I encourage creativity and challenging yourself daily. I try to create hooks and lessons to help connect students to history and bring out creativity. #waledchat
Just finished the #faster chat and it left me pumped up to do another one! Howdy #waledchat 👋🏼 I’m Lucy. Ind. PD agent from S. Tx! First time on #waledchat 😊
A2 I share my passion in my excitement to see them, love on them, share my knowledge, & learn from them. I genuinely want to be there and I try to let every student know it whether they're in my room or not. I can't control outside, but in 214, they're loved and safe. #waledchat
A2. When Ss doubt themselves, and don't believe in themselves, I will work with them. Find out the why behind the doubt, encourage them, take small steps and get them to start believing in themselves, to grow confidence and build success! #waledchat
A2 knowing that I think they matter that their voice counts, relationships underpin it all, believing in them 2 the point that they believe in themselves #waledchat
A2: as a WHIST teacher, it can get pretty dry discussing events of the past. I try to incorporate jokes & goofiness as I take on the role different ppl during lecture/review #waledchat
A2: I believe being patient allows me to hear them. Students want to be heard. When they know you’re listening, it makes them more willing to trust you and understand that you have their best interest at heart. #waledchat
A2 - I show Ss that I can relate to their personal lives (highs and lows/good and bad) and they can see that I’m real and know what they’re going through. It builds relationships. #waledchat
A2: Everyone wants to hear that they have done well. Positive encouragement costs nothing, but means everything to those that receive it. Who can you encourage tomorrow? #waledchat
A2: empathy allows me too relate to my Ss. My 6th graders are emotional beings. Their world and minds are constantly changing and not always for the good. Being an empathetic teacher is important for positive healthy growth #waledchat
A2 my drive to succeed means I believe that I’m capable of anything that I work hard at and pass that belief/ mindset to my ss. I tell them anything is possible is you believe. I work tirelessly to hone my craft so that I can make the most of their year #waledchat
A2 - My classroom, like my mindset, is flexible. If we have the opportunity to try something new, we do. If we need to change our schedule, we can. We roll with the punches and learn along the way #waledchat
I know when it's time to put the pencil down and pour on the love. I'm also flexible about completing assignments or when behaviors are less than desirable. I try to address the root of the problem by listening, caring, and helping. #waledchat
A2: When I risk trying something new and different, I learn with them. We walk together in the learning process. They trust me, and I trust them. It builds confidence and promotes critical thinking. It's a win/win. Ss become better test takers and decision makers. #waledchat
A2: Having a strength as a learner means that I am so excited about what we are doing that my students see that I am excited and become more engaged because they know I love that I am sharing my time with them. #waledchat
A2: I try to find creative ways to teach "less fun" things...it helps with engagement and making school a great place to be. I also get creative with our space, making it work best for Ss.I also find that a bit of creativity goes a long way in problem solving. #waledchat
A2: It’s all about giving Ss what they need to be successful. Fair is not always equal, but success is success no matter how long it takes or which path you take. #waledchat
#waledchat Building trust, rapport, and a safe haven for learning is key. The more I look them in the eye, use their name, listen intently and have a little freedom based on trust- the stronger and more endearing the relationship and this makes learning the focus
A2b - In all these words it starts with relationships. Nobody says “I’m going to develop the best objective each day!” Love students and they will love you back. #waledchat
A2: It’s all about giving Ss what they need to be successful. Fair is not always equal, but success is success no matter how long it takes or which path you take. #waledchat
To support them both in and out of my classroom. In the classroom, I support their learning the best I can. Outside of my classroom, I go to school events and check in on them when I know they need someone to be there for them. #waledchat
A2: I build relationships to build trust, community, and an understanding of what students need to access content, develop character, believe in themselves, and find multiple forms of success! #waledchat
Yes! We have an appreciation station in our office. While you're making copies you can leave a note of encouragement for a colleague. It costs nothing and means the world #waledchat
A lot of people saying "failure" in #waledchat. Funny how we encourage students to fail and learn, but we are very hesitant ourselves to fail. Why do you think that is?
A3b - Related to an earlier question. It’s up to us to avoid those things that influence our teaching. While there will always be obstacles, finding ways to stay happy and motivated is key. #waledchat
A3 stagnation- I need to evolve to met the changing needs of the children I serve. The day I stop wanting to learn, be, do more is the day I know I’m done teaching #waledchat
A4~better time management ~ seeking out resources to help weed out what doesn’t work, learning to not overthink things is a biggie ~ finding tribe & letting go of naysayers~ no more LOSS of thoughts on these type peeps
#waledchat
A4: My goal is to strive to learn and teach at least 1 new thing each day. Compliance is encouraged through being comfortable with the status quo, I will always need to leave this behind and push myself and others outside of our comfort zones.
#waledchat
A4: Pushing myself to try new things even when I'm afraid they won't be received well. It's not about the potential for failure - it's about my own lack of confidence, and my ever-present desire to have positive relationships with everyone. Not realistic, but true. #waledchat
A4: I overcome stasis by challenging my norm, and my Ts norm. I listen to their needs and their wants, help them and then challenge them to grow. #waledchat
A4 - Constantly reading research articles and books and thinking about how evidence-informed strategies can adapt to my classroom to stay effective.
#waledchat
A4: Giving 110% and getting feedback from Ss, Ts, admin, parents, anyone I can - I never want to be seen as lackluster or a disappointment. I want to inspire, encourage, and uplift anyone I come into contact with. #waledchat
A4: Continue to strive to do what I am capable of. Ensure that I am doing my best and that’s all I can ask for. Not going to meet everyone’s expectations everytime. Strive for greatness but in strides. #waledchat
A4: I originally said disengagement, but after reading the responses, I realized I am more afraid of failing. As a new teacher, I question whether I am doing enough and even making the slightest difference. I also question whether I am doing anything right. #waledchat
A4: Reminding myself that I am enough. Celebrating wins, learning from losses, knowing that I have been called to this profession to make a positive difference in the lives of Ss #waledchat
A4: Learning, learning, and learning. And then putting into practice. And then, if I fail anyway and my fears come true, to learn from that failure in order to be better next time. #waledchat
A4: Working to use the power of YET. We all have abilities, they just look different or present at different times. WE need to realize we can and will, in time. We all have ABILITY. #waledchat
A4: Staying current. Reading great books for PD. Building my #pln on Twitter. Trying new things despite anxiety and getting encouragement from my work family when I doubt myself #waledchat
A4: Having patience and waiting for the right opportunity to present itself. Trying to not getting ahead of myself, or overthink my current assignment. Finding the good in the impact that I can have where I am currently serving. #waledchat
A3: Boredom is my biggest fear. Complacency is a close second. I don't want to be bored & I don't want be kids to feel that either, of course. I also want to evolve constantly & not get stodgy or be that teacher who stubbornly won't change when faced w/ new methods.
#waledchat
A4: I realize that, if I am afraid of failing, I will never step out of my comfort zone and settle for complacency. I want to push myself to be a better educator because my Ss absolutely deserve that. I want to do the best job that I can and help my kiddos grow. #waledchat
Grit: In my relationships to keep plugging away, even w/the most resistant students; in my lesson designing process when something fails, & I try again; in pushing myself to be uncomfortable, because I am trying to grow. Grit picks me back up off the floor! 😀 #waledchat
A4 I self-reflect a lot more so that I can try to handle my issues and deal with any uncertainties before it becomes failures of my students. I ask for help, I research, and observe for new ideas and tips. #waledchat
A4 model, raise expectations, Promise less & deliver more, one size does not fit all - talk the talk walk the walk - be present in the moment and tomorrow #waledchat
A4: It's still very much a work in progress for me. I try not to "get stuck" in fear and kinda grit my teeth and plow past it (some days more successfully than others). #waledchat
A4 - It sounds strange but I’ve learned and teach kids to “train their brain!” We are creatures of habit. Smile enough and it becomes a learned behavior. The same holds true for negativity. Give those who share your happiness. Avoid those who see the rain everyday. #waledchat
A4: To avoid complacency, you must be a lifelong learner & willing to shake things up! I want each year to be fresh and inviting for my students (and me!) Growing my Twitter PLN & reading awesome books written by educators stretches helps me stay relevant and real! #waledchat
A4: Always keeping my #personalwhy at the forefront of my mind. My ultimate goal is to make a difference in Ss lives, not just teach them math. #waledchat
A4: I strive for daily positive interactions with students & staff... trying very hard not to “miss someone” who needs a smile, a greeting, a hug, a listening ear, a meal, a coat, clean clothes.... #waledchat
A4: planning better, better time management, not over assigning work, not grading everything, forced self-care, spending time w/ other positive Ts in things like the #waledchat so that I feel energized and not defeated by negativity
A4: Planning ahead to be prepared and pace out what I teach. Introduce reading strategies to students to help them grow to be more independent instead of encouraging them to stay static. #waledchat
A4: to keep learning and stay passionate about my subject, find things my students are passionate about, spend time with my family and do things I enjoy. Also, letting g of a bad day and not let it get to me. #waledchat
A4: I just want to grow and get better each day. I want to provide for our students and teachers and help them grow and reach their goals also! #waledchat
A4 I try to overcome that fear of comfortability by always surrounding myself with people who are smarter than me, people who push me, challenge me, inspire me, and above all I challenge myself to do at least one thing I am afraid of each day! #waledchat
A4: Avoiding boredom and complacency, I change what I do constantly & assess what's working. I seek out new methodology consistently. I want to be on the cutting edge and use ways that connect with today's students instead of moaning about how much kids have changed.
#waledchat
A4. Doing research to try and bring in the latest, newest, things. But the unknown right now is what's scary in education for the standards! They want to cut Algebra 2 away from Ss, with other changes proposed with a test to graduate! #waledchat
A5: Sweetest part of the year so far has been how quickly I've felt comfortable in a new place. The #SEGwarriornation staff and students have made this feel like home, and I couldn't ask for anything more. #waledchat
A5: The sweetest part of this school year has been my favorite part of every year... Building relationships with my colleagues and Ss. Seeking to not just know them at school but also something that they love.
#waledchat
A4: I advocate for safety with my Ss. I inform them of policy and tragic stories. We talk about this. I encourage Ss to speak up. We have drills. I also make sure my son knows the exits of his very large school campus. We Ts discuss it,and support each other. #waledchat
A4: by being more present during the "down time" of class. In HR, it's been discussing MLB playoffs - Go Sox!- in group work it's a checkup in on the work + a "whatcha reading?" Etc. trying to hit every kid once a week in this manner. Tiny convos here and there #waledchat
A5: Building & strengthening relationships - implementing so many of the #DBC50Summer plans already! Having an incredible PLN who keeps encouraging me and pushing me out of my comfort zone. #waledchat
It is natural to question. However while questioning make sure you are reflecting. YOU got this. Just from what I know of you here on Twitter you're a rock star. Shine bright and keep going. #waledchat
A4: My sweetest part of the school year was receiving a parent email that I was the reason his daughter was excited to come to school everyday when that was not the case before. It truly made my heart smile especially as a 1st year teacher. #waledchat
Reading these amazing educator books inspires me daily - so much I made a tribute EDUlit mosaic in my classroom to inspire other teachers to read them #waledchat
A5: The sweetest part of this school year has been collaborating with other educators throughout my school district. It is like we are one BIG team ❤ #waledchat
A4b - There are always buzz words in education. One that has always stick with me is, “students!” They are the reason we have a job and also help us to feel self-worth. We can’t forget the importance of what we do. #waledchat
A5: the sweetest part of this school year so far has been my students amazing ability to empathize with each other and share their excitement for learning with the lessons we work through!! #waledchat
A5: The sweetest part so far this year... the beautiful faces I am privileged to see each and every day. These faces make my heart smile! ❤️ #waledchat
A5: Two treats. 1) Getting to serve alongside of such an amazing team in our Lab. They are passionate, brilliant, and caring educators. 2) Partnering with our Drama team. Seeing our 8th Graders step up and blossom as leaders is a truly amazing blessing. #waledchat
Yes, I reflect a lot and implement new strategies if something is not working the way I want it to. I agree that reflection is crucial. Thank you so much! #waledchat
It is natural to question. However while questioning make sure you are reflecting. YOU got this. Just from what I know of you here on Twitter you're a rock star. Shine bright and keep going. #waledchat
A5 The sweetest part of this school year so far has been helping parents better understand the critical role they play in their child’s education #waledchat
A4: I have reflective conversations with students and educators to help focus on the positive outcomes, rather than the negative fears. This cultivates a mindset of what we can and will do, not what we can’t and won’t try doing. #waledchat
A5: I had a student who saw another student feeling sad. She went around the room to each student and asked them to write something nice about the girl who was sad. She walked over and gave her 22 positive post it notes of compliments 😍 #waledchat
A5: That I have created a diversity club at my middle school that invites all Ss no matter their race/ethnicity/sexual orientation with a mission of teaching others that we’re not that different! #waledchat
A5: Having students tell me, "We like you because you care about us." Me: "How do you know I care about you?" Students: "Because you actually listen to us when we talk about our problems." #waledchat
A5: When a struggling student finally figured out a math concept that she just knew she would never be able to do. Every time she struggles and wants to quit, I remind her of that moment and she keeps trying. #waledchat
A5: I'm in my third year teaching Spanish to the same group of prek-5th graders, and I'm seeing so much progress in my kiddos! They're working hard and making strides. Can't wait to hear them speaking in a couple more years.
#waledchat
Thanks so much for letting me learn with you all again tonight #waledchat - I absolutely love this chat!!!! Be sure to follow one another to keep the awesome going! Sweet dreams, y'all!
A5: When I enter a classroom and hear students say, “Yay! Mrs. Letter is here!!” 😊 Talk about making a teacher feel great! Love those welcome and goodbye hugs, too! #waledchat#relationshipsmatter#passionforkindness
A4) Grab on to life with both hands. We used to act like we had so much time. To get it right. To be happy. I guess we know better now, don't we? #waledchat
A5- No different this year...getting to know the students that I have the privilege to work with everyday. And our staff...best staff ever!! #waledchat
