Rob from Dallas. 8th grade English T in 1:1 iPad independent school
kyle - network admin from philly. google guru in 1:1 ipad environment
I'm Sean from Orland Park IL. Director of Instructional Tech at Marian Catholic. Excited to present at this Friday
Dan, business teacher from St. Louis. Not 1:1 yet, but working toward it. Looking to get tips/tricks.
Hey and glad you could join us tonight.
Jon, HS Spanish teacher in NJ, 2nd year in 1:1 macbook school.
Nathan and I have already stuck my arrow half way through my head
I'm Jonathan, a Library & Instructional Tech Specialist at . And I have the pleasure of co-organizing with
Let the count down begin for Q1.
Hey Dan. Do you know what devices you're going with yet?
Hello everyone. Hope you are doing well. 4th & 5th grade teacher in Maine.
we just put 1400 chromebooks in the district, varying in brand. I think most are dell or Samsung.
A1: Google...links us to everything
John from Saco, ME. History Dept Chair and Tech Integrator.
Hi Tim. Glad to have you with us.
A1: Twitter! Avenue for connecting to amazing, enthusiastic, bucket-filling, inspiring professionals.
Headed to Philly in a few weeks as part of class trip! Hope we get decent weather!
a1: (forgot my why) https://t.co/NYdTCzJ6Zw because i couldn't do my job without it. i know a lot, but i don't know everything.
Howdy ! Tina from TN jumping in
The good and the bad, but Google should top the list.
Hopefully you'll get some more insight from this group. I know is our Chromebook aficionado
A1: I can't live without Google, GAFE, and Twitter. A good portion of education is now centered around these.
i'll see what i can do about the weather.
Yes, I was thinking about the impact Google has had
Essential tools to get me through the day include Twitter, GAFE, Google.
And I'm looking forward to a cheesesteak!
Hey John! Even in an 1:1 iPad environment we couldn't make it work without It's our backbone
A1: Google Classroom is an incredible tool for T's to organize and disseminate assignments.
A1: All Google...search, drive, classroom b/c it connects, collaborates, improves efficiency, saves time, & sharing is a breeze
A1 - I guess google, but I think the beauty of being 1:1 is I have discovered so many resources that are now essential.
Agreed. We started there last year and it's only going to get better and better.
A1b: Twitter for PLN, news, ideas, sharing
A1: Google Apps for Education!
A1: I'd have to say GAFE, Twitter and my chromebook those are the 3 things I use to work and learn
Yes, and we'll talk more about LMS and websites later. Darn this group and their above average tweeting.
Yay! Erin made it to the party.
. agreed Jonathan! GAFE is a lifeline!
i have found that all devices have their place! It's fun to find new ways to use them.
A1: I'm also a massive fan of as an eBook and audio book source for my Students. INCREDIBLE interface & features
Q2 just around the corner.
Google should be #1 but how much time do we spending teaching Ss how to use it? We just assume they know.
I love the online resources we are seeing in gaming and simulations as well. This is something we couldn't do until recently
I think most of mine do! I'd argue some of my colleagues don't!
How many Ts really know how to use Google or how Google works?
Well said! The beauty is the students' discovery because they are online. https://t.co/67DXfbusUW
A1 - I guess google, but I think the beauty of being 1:1 is I have discovered so many resources that are now essential.
How does the time teaching Google compare to the amount of time we spent as Ss learning the library?
we have overdrive and mackin via
They don't know it, b/c it's not Snapchat or Instagram. Ss need a repository of how to videos they can access
. Thanks Laura! my nickname is the :-)
A1 Pandora, Netflix, overnight taco delivery company
A2: instead of guru, I'd say I can't do w/out several chats in which I participate frequently. Obviously this one too!!!
I am testing out a Stu based Goo cert. program to test K&S. They know more than they realize
Do u find that many don't? Or need a deep dive? Do you find GAFE products that difficult for Ts to learn & teach Ss?
Hey there, jumping in, , CEO of . Just learning more about school’s favorite tools.
Great question! Goes hand in hand w/ utilizing tech to benefit all!
A2: for constant answers, ideas, inspiration, and entertainment. (and cookies)
Great point. They need to learn how to use tools, so how do we provide quick & effective help? To 'em back to content
Or a reason to know how to use it.
What constitutes a library these days? Not being sarcastic either.
Did my principal put you up to that? Focus always needs to be on the Why. Otherwise what's the point?
A2: I can't live without the Twitter chats I'm in weekly. I also need , , , .
A2: 1st is she is a great principal and encourages out of the box ideas
I'm thinking more about Google search. If I asked Ts or Ss to find a red picture they wouldn't know how.
a2: is a good one for me. there are a lot of good resources, curriculum ideas, and pedagogy thoughts
We have been looking at our spaces and can't help but think about the amount library has. Best use???
I agree with . I look to many in my but the chats are what feeds me.
A2: ACK! My ONE desert island PLN choice? Have to say my friend/mentor . Can't imagine teacher-librarian life w/o her
A2: 2nd is her was my PLN kick in the pants! She is a NUT!
The problem is Google's instant gratification even if the results are poop.
Awesome. It helps when Ts can think outside the box & be willing to take risk w/o fear from Admin
are you buttering me up? :) I learn from YOU!
People don't want to take 5 secs to do a better search.
Q3 is coming - start thinking apps.
Always excited to see folks in person! Today it was , , ,
Love hearing talk about how Ss hold each other accountable for bad sources/searches.
Looking forward to seeing some of my PLN at tomorrow & Fri
Now there's someone I can't do without.
Sean helped me get hooked on this chat and Twitter!
If you are a school and or Chromebooks, no better resource than She rocks!
A3: to get class wide conversations started at the beginning of class.
A3: my new fav iOS app is classkick...I'm hoping it will change how out math Ts teach
I've taught a lot of these and Ss still won't use them. Haven't figured out how to make them use them.
He's also the reason I'm here & definitely opened my eyes to EdTech at summit
A3: Twitter! Totally addicted to chats & tweets & the app stays on the go w/ me
A3 In the classroom we rely on but now that a simple machines study is kicking in the Ss will say TinkerBox.
How many of your school's have a single platform where Ts post resources for their class? We've been debating that idea.
A3: via the ULTIMATE QR code tool . And which rocks world. Both priceless
it is such a great tool to get the quiet Ss to express themselves.
. love ! also like & bioth are great for back channel convo's & ideas & Q/A
A3: If I could only have 1 it would be It's the most flexible tool out there for Ts & Ss.
A3: , , , , and are what I use daily in apps.
Such a simple yet complicated man.
A3: and are popular with my Ss for projects. Usually the leading choice when Ss have options.
A3: ebackpack for workflow, and Socrative for multi-use,
A3: Has to be more than one for sure... Google Classroom
Again with getting ahead of the program... 3 Min til LMS talk. But we LOVE
We use ebackpack extensively for workflow and now implementing Evernote school wide for dig portfolio
I'm always excited to use the Quick Question option on and turn it into a poll! Great conversation form that.
Q4 is coming up in just a minute.
love it for Student created tutorials! Ss love to learn from each other
also get on twice a day at least
Padlet rocks and is versatile!!!
Maybe. After fighting the battle for a few years I gave up. Maybe it's time to get back in it.
We had the team out at our school in the fall. Definitely a good product and growing.
A3 - googledrive, kahoot, youtube, our LMS which I will wait to Q4 to discuss.
We just used Adobe Voice for This I Believe
Do you require that everyone use ? Big debate for us. Should it be required and which platform.
we found that few standardize. We think the solution is one student planner as a dashboard to all of them.
Yes, love the ability to share w/ Ss or have info sent to me!
Sorry. I'll go to detention now.
We paid for Enterprise so we are ALL IN & it's definitely paying off. Levels the playing field for Ts & Ss
we don't mandate anything and that's why we are so fractured and the Ss suffer. not sure what to do.
A3 It has been mentioned but is an agile tool the allows us to assess & to show S growth over time.
you can hear the music all through the halls of our school! So fun
Did you have JUG in high school?
A4: we use Renweb. Eager to see Apple's rollout
Oh my goodness - the visuals/images accompanying each Q are HILARIOUS!
We still use that term on the south side of the city in the catholic schools.
Keeps improving all the time too!
A4 also want to say the LMSs are evil
A4: as more and more of out Ts begin using Classroom...they are loving it! We still have Ts using noodle as well
A4 - . Our district went with it & it has been great. Great organizer for everyone. All Ts and Ss on same page.
Thanks - I used time I really shouldn't have used, but it was fun so....
The places that have them seem to love it. By we've had a REALLY hard time getting consensus.
A3 - Jim from Texas. Google drive and Forms have been game-changers. Learning one program - Forms - that can do so much.
another lover here. Sorry just doing a drive by reading and lurking. https://t.co/nWWrZ5s8DQ
We paid for Enterprise so we are ALL IN & it's definitely paying off. Levels the playing field for Ts & Ss
A4 As a GAFE school, all teachers use the Google Classroom.
JUG? Probably not since I don't know what it stands for.
our aim is to integrate various sources directly into including tasks entered by students.
Were here every week. Feel free to jump in any time.
We're in the same spot but do the Ss suffer or is it helpful for them to learn different platforms?
A4 Enjoying the functionality of Google Classroom for my work with elem. GAFE for some creation, Drive for storage & portfolio.
A4: I can't live without Google Classroom or my own website. I would be lost without these.
A2: !!! Always empowering Ts to try new things & test the limits w/ tech integration
I think that's the issue we're going to face.
we had haiku for about 3 years. 2 with chromebooks and then got rid of it after one year with ipads.
Ours were suffering and do like to get everything in the same place.
never bad to learn a lot, but it drives them mad having to track it is diff places + analog
Ps add another layer to the conversation too. They can't keep up with all the tools.
Q5 is coming up. Start thinking about your own school.
I have never tried to use it with ipad, but we love it with our macbooks.
it's our Ss biggest complaint. "where is the work i have to do and where do i turn it in?"
stick with the macbooks. believe me.
Ours were suffering. We listened to Ts & Ss for what they liked in different LMS's. Went w/
YES! And that’s what we want to help fix. Getting there :-)
Or biggest excuse for not getting it done.
same issues here...the perfect balance is eluding us!
i forgot about the Ps. we haven't asked their opinion this year.
For HS, I think it is definitely the way to go. My son has ipads in elementary and they are good for that age.
With LMS it's good to let Ts experiment so you can see what works best for your Ts & Ss. Then choose LISTEN TO THEM!
A5 My students! They do a great job of making it a fun place to be and keeping me in line.
perfect for elementary. a great beginner device.
Imagine that, asking the Ss' opinion. What an odd idea.
We didn't ask Ps about LMS specifically, but loud & clear they wanted 1 platform.
let me know if any of you wish to try something new.
the digital dog is real. seen a lot of work go "missing" on an ipad.
A5: my fellow CITs and they inspire me
A5: Nerd Herd w/ & others
i forgot to add in the printing requirements too.
A5: my wolf pack is , , , , and . We all make a great team!
tech is a place where stuff can disapear. But “what” Ss have to do doesn’t have to go missing.
I do like for that. When the Ss says they've turned it in I open up their submissions.
A5: but I have some Ts and that are keeping me on my toes right now
A5: How much of our school PLN is part of our online PLN?
we are using ebackpack. have seen turned in annotations go missing during turn-in.
How do you all deal with using an LMS + Classroom + analog tools like the whiteboard to announce and manage homework for Ss?
A5 - my lunch crews help me get through the day and I can bounce ideas off of. They can drive me crazy too though ...
A5: my Ts!! They are rock-stars & I'm blessed that Ts give me their time to work on tech integration
A5: until he sailed across the river.
Not many. I try to get and others to join. They are probably doing things I should be!
Q6 is coming. Not cheating on our PLN here, but...
that’s one aspect. Not finding there is actual work to do is another. Dog doesn’t even get to it.
most of my in the building PNL don't even tweet
Love that sounding board, but sometimes they sound off too much
Ugh. Has there ever been a 100% reliable way to get S work though?
Ugh. Has there ever been a 100% reliable way to get S work though?
paper. whiteboard. email. stone tablet.
Same here, at least for professional development purposes.
heh heh. that + all the rest. and Ss have to know about it all.
Definitely a different world for me. Only a few of fellow Ts are on Twitter, but lurkers at best.
if classroom added an annotation tool, it might be the 100%.
No, Ss need to exert themselves no matter what we use in class.
Only a matter of time We had no idea how real it was when we said Google's taking over the world.
A6: this, , , are my 3 go to chats. Lurk in others plenty
and the calendar in Classroom is not a true planner
I certainly wish there were more voices from school in these chats. A new form of collaboration
A5: and make my day to day work an absolute pleasure. Such a very lucky man to have them both.
Ss can take picture of the whiteboard. other digital sources can be turned in. just need a link
that’s a bit scary… aren’t we creating that?
A6: This is my only chat. I've seen others I would like to join but dont have the time. conflicts w/ my Fire Dept nights
My head of school and I probably are the most frequent users at my school. Limited use. Sad.
photo ends-up in photo roll, with all their own. Not as tasks in their planner
A6: are the ones I frequent. But this is my 3rd new chat in 2 days...can you say addicted?
A6: , , , , , and are all ones I use to increase my PLN.
For most of us online presence lacks w/ Ts, but we all have those people we lean on to support our crazy
a6: my other chat is . it runs every other week.
but that’s the thinking. How do Ss manage their stuff. And freeing Ts from choosing their own
Cool that it's your head of school. Good ally to have.
my Ts look at me weird when I share the ideas for a Twitter chat, but they still will work with me
if they are on an ipad. if they have android, photo stays in the app for use anywhere else.
A6 When time permits I enjoy and . Also like to add to to share with PSTs.
it’s awesome. Another tool that could connect to the planner . hi to Colin.
A6 - - the BEST for language Ts. I struggle with 8pm EST start time though.
A6: The folks (Teacher-Librarians) are the reason I am a Librarian now. And (Maine) is my local lifeline.
does it work on android? in case of byod
Ss need choice & flexibility to demonstrate understanding, but keep turn-in process standard
A6: the various chats seem to have a good amount of energy.
. me too! recently on a chat at a TN Vol game... made me realize I truly have an addiction&may need a program
I have spent so much time w/ our librarian lately people are going to start talking. Presented OER for Ts Tues
A6: I have found it difficult when I've tried other chats and they move so slowly compared to . I enjoy the intense convo here
I love all the memes! I'm going to have to build them in to my chat
Always share and encourage w/ Ss, Ts, Ps. All invested!
Twitter addiction is real. Maybe we can have a chat for it.
Stole a lot of them today, but use to create some great graphics as well.
. I'd be all for it & would put in on my calendar to access no matter where I am! lol!
and the web app has the pen tool?
will be looking into studyo and growing my PLN!
We have great conversations but don't always agree. Great we can voice opinions and think things out together
ok, I don’t want to turn all this into self-promotion. Got carried away, sorry :-) Passionate about this!
The large debate about single platform and that we need to ask all the players: Ts, Ss, and Ps.
It's always thought provoking.
Thanks , always a great convo!
I have so much to say that it may have to be a 2hr chat!
Thanks & . My is to rework my handle so it is as cool as . Oh, & exploring chats shared.
MASSIVE PROPS to for leading tonight's We'll see you all next Wed (and every Wed!) at 9pm ET YOU ALL
I've been doing a lot with lately. Great group and has some great resources.
