Denis, Author of Instant Relevance and Hacking Math, and my favorite is The Hulk, but only because of my uncanny resemblance to Lou Ferrigno ;) #MakeItReal

A1: In my #gamified class I like to center side missions and sometimes badges or items around events like the Super Moon and the Solar Eclipse! #makeitreal
A1: Plan fun review games so Ss pulled out of class or absent for various special activity reasons don't miss new content. Also keep All About Me @GetKahoot created by Ss. Helps all of us get to know them. Tap into that fun spirit of the day or week! #MakeItReal
A1. Can be better with this, but definitely like to allow for organic conversation to stem from these questions related to big things happening! #MakeItReal
A1: I am constantly trying to connect History to modern times to help students see how decisions made in the past affect us today. We have conversations and class blogging to help us connect! #MakeItReal

#MakeItReal I use a lot of “colliding with science” connections- I always say- “how does this collide with the real world” I think seeing the big picture means bringing the magic of the reality & life into every lesson
A1: The biggest lie is that lessons are linear...they are not and should not be...this realization helps you navigate the...”what the heck just happened” or “that’s in interesting point” moments!
#MakeItReal
A1: Never just let the event pass. Let kids talk about it, find out WHY it matters to them, then grab that bull by the horns and wrangle a great learning opportunity out of it! #MakeItReal
A1 I won’t lie I’m easily distracted. I’m willing to go with many of the comments my students bring up. It’s what’s on their mind, being it in to the lesson some how. #MakeItReal
A1: I always try to remember that just because I teach a specific subject, doesn't mean it's the only thing that matters in my room. If the kids are interested and want to explore something off the beaten path for a bit, I'm game! #MakeItReal
A1: These were some of my favorite times. Sometimes, "allowing" the train to go off the tracks for a bit made for the most interesting conversations. #MakeItReal
A1 #MakeItReal Currently with our unit of Genetics- we use a lot of superhero traits-mutations- to discuss inherited vs acquired traits & genetic engineering
A1 You have to allow event moments to have a presence. Be aware of what you can to preempt them + intentionally teach them but also allow learners to guide what’s relevant to them! #MakeItReal
I’m quick to change lessons or pull something together to make sure I make those moments work and students are learning even if it’s about who they are, their goals or diving seeping into a question they had #MakeItReal
A1 Its all about teachable moments!! Don’t be afraid to go off script. Take a chance and embrace the craziness and distractions that may occur in class—use them to your advantage 😜 #MakeItReal@DynamicDuda338#WonderTwins
Q2: In the face of resistance, apathy, and fear from colleagues, how do you fulfill your duty to ramp up engagement for your students and bring their interests into your lessons? #MakeItReal
A1: By connecting it to what we’re discussing in class, even if it doesn’t seem relevant! Are kids buzzing about whether the dress is blue/black or white/gold? Great, that perfectly embodies the bitter battle between the early American political parties! #MakeItReal
A2: This ? Is perfect timing...u should have seen some of my colleagues faces when I asked them to come be investors in our lemonade stand...I just keep going & remember that my Ss Learning is more important than other arts opinions! #makeitreal
A2: While I'm used to going it alone, being different, and trying new things without backup, but I always seek out fellow mavericks to bring along for the ride. Like that quote: 1 teacher trying new things is crazy. 2 teachers trying new things is a movement. #MakeItReal
I try to not let the negative people in. I create creative lessons and do crazy things because it makes me happy and helps my students learn. People will doubt you but it’s not about them it’s about the students! #MakeItReal
A2: not trying to brag out anything, but i pretty much work with the Avengers... So new ideas are met with a "hell yeah" more often than not! #MakeItReal
A1: I like to do music center games on my double day. This gives me the opportunity to give a proper review of the content learned and answer questions my students may have. #makeitreal
A2: While I'm used to going it alone, being different, and trying new things without backup, but I always seek out fellow mavericks to bring along for the ride. Like that quote: 1 teacher trying new things is crazy. 2 teachers trying new things is a movement. #MakeItReal
A2) Also I always surround myself with positive people who run and do crazy lessons in their classroom like myself. If the kids are learning and are engaged that matters to me. #MakeItReal
#MakeItReal
A2 Your duty is to your students and they deserve the best . You’re there to relate the material so they can understand. Make it relevant and exciting— show your passion and they will be inspired!!! #MakeItReal@DynamicDuda338#WonderTwins

A2 Forge ahead. Do it! The other faculty/staff can gawk if they want. They'll hear about it from the students. You class should be a journey were thstudents are active participants with voice. We have a a responsibility to our kiddos. be engaging, be honest, be there! #makeitreal
A2. This chat theme and having just caught up on #xplap is inspiring me to use marvel/dc comics as an inspiration for gamification theme next year! #MakeItReal
A2 #MakeItReal It May feel like I am in a colorless world sometimes- that I am misunderstood- but I keep going- eventually the hues & brightness prevails
A2: I make an effort to keep up with their interests! If I know what songs they’re listening to or what show they’re watching, I can drop a reference in the classroom to catch their attention. If I don’t know, I reserve some class time for them to tell me about them! #MakeItReal
Q3: What's ONE way you can help others find their way toward seeing lesson possibilities all around them and make learning relevant to all? #MakeItReal
Q3: Model and share! If they see me doing it, others are more likely to follow. Ts also like it when they get some resources or help with a starting place. #makeitreal
A3: Share the goodness of your lesson in person or present or on Twitter at #EDUdailyTweets & local hashtag-as long as you share! I do both & on my blog as well. We've got to share what we know. Encourage Ts to get out there & connect! #MakeItReal#BetterTogether
A1: If the special event or distracting moment can't be related to my content I use it as a brain break and as an opportunity to build relationships #makeitreal
A2 Remember it our job to provide the best experience for our kids and not let the "loud squeaky wheels" deter us...Talk to our kids find out their passions, they desires, their fears, then we can develop authentic learning that will motivate and encourage our kids #MakeItReal
A2 Remember your why. Mine is always for the kids. That’s the perspective I use always to avoid the negative + apathy + resistance. My joy is left in tact then! (As it is for the kids!) #MakeItReal
A3: By encouraging them to infuse THEIR interests into the classroom first. Once they see how significantly it enhances their engagement, they will be more likely to expand their horizons to include the interests of everyone in the room! #MakeItReal
A2: By actively listening and collecting the data that students bring to class with them every day. We don't need to wait for assessments to determine student needs. #makeitreal
#MakeItReal Offer to share my ideas at district PD- I do. Tweet out, and offer to share- if people want to listen- they will attend. I tend to never give ideas unsolicited- except on Twitter & my blog
Q3: What's ONE way you can help others find their way toward seeing lesson possibilities all around them and make learning relevant to all? #MakeItReal
A3. Going to keep taking risks in the classroom and beyond. I want to continue blogging and making connections so that I can share these ideas with those around me. #MakeItReal
Q3: What's ONE way you can help others find their way toward seeing lesson possibilities all around them and make learning relevant to all? #MakeItReal
A2: At the beginning of the school year, Ss take an interest inventory so I can see what they are interested in. I am more than willing to help colleagues face their fears, and I hope they are willing to help me face mine! #MakeItReal
A2: I have been the first in my building for many strategies to increase (flexible seating etc) Didn't quite get the full thumbs up but trusted my gut for my students! #makeitreal
A2: I say it's all about going the distance for the kids. I always take a survey at the beginning of the year about their favorite music artists. I take the list and make sure I mention something about their favorite singers and how it ties into the lesson. #makeitreal
A3 model it for my team , be willing to take risks and get my hands dirty, encourage risk taking, celebrate risk takers always put #kidfirst#makeitreal
A3: Share and explain all the great things happening in your class, whether with colleagues at school or on social media chats like this! Make others curious and interested in trying out your ideas. #MakeItReal
A3 Share often! See the possibilites not the drawbacks. Present/Host/Write. Be open to new ideas and try to see things in a different way. Great model for others--especially the Ss. #Risk#makeitreal
A3 #MakeItReal I listen to and support those around me. The more purposeful conversations you have the more likely they will seek advice and ask for strategies
A3: Reflect constantly... with your students! Involve them in the process. Let them in on some of the "secrets." Explain why your lessons operate the way that they do. You'd be surprised at how many great ideas and possibilities they can offer when they're involved. #MakeItReal
Thanks for joining #MakeItReal tonight! Great chat! Stick around for the bonus question in just one minute! Come back next week when @Joshua__Stamper takes the reigns!
A3) I want to be the cheerleader for others and help their ideas take flight, I also want to write more blog posts/ Periscope about my classroom so I can share my love of creative lessons with others #MakeItReal
Challenge A: Keep my thinking flexible. My idea isn't always the best. Don't just change for change sake. Know the research, strategies, & tech that will propel my Ss forward as far as they didn't know they could go. Seek out S interests. Use them. #MakeItReal
CHALLENGE QUESTION: With all the busyness of the second semester, what goal will you set for yourself that will maximize your power to make learning relevant in your classroom? #MakeItReal
A3 It’s careful territory. I still believe in doing your thing + by actions + results, people will join you. You can’t force them. Let them see you walk the walk consistently! #MakeItReal
I know I am not the smartest nor wisest in the room- unlike this man- who is- so I teach creatively with conviction and when asked I share openly & honesty what works and what doesn’t #MakeItReal
See you next week for #MakeItReal with @Joshua__Stamper at the helm. Have an electrifying week! Harness the thunder! Bring it! (Cape and Hammer not included).
Challenge A: To completely revamp at least one lesson within each topic. It will keep my lessons fresh during a time of the year when things can easily become stale AND it will allow me to integrate new developments in my students’ lives into the classroom! #MakeItReal
A3: conversation is the answer! Be the one who talks about academic issues not the one who talks about people. Share resources. Listen to the ideas of others. Compliment fellow educators. 👀 for the positive #MakeItReal
A3) I want to be the cheerleader for others and help their ideas take flight, I also want to write more blog posts/ Periscope about my classroom so I can share my love of creative lessons with others #MakeItReal
My colleague and I are constantly collaborating not only with each other but with the grade below us and the grade above us to make sure that learning is relevant to all. #MakeItReal
OMG! @SteinbrinkLaura Laura you absolutely killed it! The power of a million superheroes- your super powers are now.. wait for it.. legendary #MakeItReal
AChallenge: Very simple response here... Reminded to bring those engaging relevant student passions into the classroom. (e.g. Superheroes, sports, etc.) #MakeItReal
CHALLENGE QUESTION: With all the busyness of the second semester, what goal will you set for yourself that will maximize your power to make learning relevant in your classroom? #MakeItReal
Thank you @SteinbrinkLaura for Marvelous #makeitreal chat tonight! A model in 30 minutes for engagement, interest, and #Risk! So much fun! Have e great week everyone.
A2 focus, focus, focus on students. The first hundred times a peer told me I was making them look bad, trying too hard, doing too much I hurt. After that? I answer to the one I see in the mirror. Sad? Yes. Worth it? Yes. #MakeItReal
BQ Committing to spend at least 1 full day in each of our schools doing work in the classrooms, available for discussions W Ts as described in the #InnovatorsMindset@gcouros#makeitreal this will help me stay grounded and understand the struggles our teachers face each day
