  • BrianDunleavy16 Feb 5 @ 8:08 PM EST
A1 All students can make up work regardless of absence. In the end it was just punishing kids twice for suspensions. Looking back it was a good thing to support the kids and get them back into the swing of school. #admin2b

  • msmelindacooper Feb 5 @ 8:10 PM EST
A1: I started doing quarter Conferences w/all Ss at end of the qtr & it gives me a chance to talk through overall grade. I also let them know they are able to improve their qtr grade by resubmitting assess. #Admin2b

  • HillaryRB Feb 5 @ 8:15 PM EST
A1: Moving to a writing process within our district that values peer conferencing (and S response to that conferencing) and revision over several days within our 5th grade alternative writing assessment rather than a direct response to a prompt completed in one sitting. #admin2b
  • JPassItOn - Moderator Feb 5 @ 8:15 PM EST
SBG just made sense the first time it was presented to me. I had a “duh” moment :) It was liberating to me when I began to apply it in my class. #Admin2B

A2: In elementary, we use Standards-Based Grading & I believe it helps teachers adjust instruction more easily. For students that master a particular standard early, it might be hard for teachers to have them connect to different objectives. #admin2b
  • BrianDunleavy16 Feb 5 @ 8:16 PM EST
A2 Standards based grading is good because it’s very specific to the learning target and growth can easily be seen through multiple assessments. #admin2b

A2: Completely changed my outlook on assessing what’s truly important. It gives Ss opportunities to redo or retake and they need that. Makes me feel more connected with each student individually #Admin2b
  • TedHiff Feb 5 @ 8:18 PM EST
A2. Standards Based Grading allow the teachers to focus in on the standards. Moving away from the Alpha grades and focusing on mastery assists and nurtured a greater, authentic assessment is best. #Admin2B

  • TedHiff Feb 5 @ 8:20 PM EST
A2. We piloted a Data notebook took that allowed teachers to track standard mastery and provided “learner group” data and helped teachers meet specific needs and to help all levels of learners. #Admin2B
  • HillaryRB Feb 5 @ 8:21 PM EST
Q2: Not currently a practice in my district, but I use SBG to measure mastery and application of strategic reading behaviors of students in intensive reading intervention, as grades are not given but mastery of basic literacy skills is necessary! #Admin2B

I create a fitness tracker for my students to chart their growth and set goals - allow for them to create their own fitness plan to address their weakness. I provide feedback, but prefer them to take ownership with starting the plan as it is more meaningful #admin2b #eda655
  • JPassItOn - Moderator Feb 5 @ 8:21 PM EST
A3: We did a catch-up cafe at BCHS during lunch for kids who could not stay after school and needed extra time for assignments and projects. I have also heard of people doing morning clubs. #Admin2B
  • BrianDunleavy16 Feb 5 @ 8:22 PM EST

    In reply to @JPassItOn
  • msmelindacooper Feb 5 @ 8:23 PM EST
A3: I don’t know how creative this is but I only take assessments for a “grade” & if a student gets 70 or below on any given assessment we talk about retakes if they choose not to do it they have to fill out an asses. Refusal form. #Admin2b
  • GenieneD - Moderator Feb 5 @ 8:23 PM EST

A3. Teach to their learning style. #admin2b
  • GenieneD - Moderator Feb 5 @ 8:26 PM EST
Great that you focused on support 'during' the instructional day. Before and after school can be problematic for many Ss #admin2b
    • JPassItOn - Moderator Feb 5 @ 8:25 PM EST
For some, it was required and some it was optional, so I’m not sure on the exact numbers. It was always pretty full.
      In reply to @GenieneD
  • BrianDunleavy16 Feb 5 @ 8:26 PM EST
A4 Feedback is a grade. Aka feedback is given in an initial turn in date then the full assessment is graded after ample time is given to correct. Turn it in when you are ready. #admin2b
  • HillaryRB Feb 5 @ 8:26 PM EST
#admin2b A3: This is one of the reasons I ❤️ @Seesaw and @googledrive . Set up assignments that offer Ss voice + choice to complete and submit during their independent time.
  • kimbaker412 Feb 5 @ 8:27 PM EST

  • TedHiff Feb 5 @ 8:28 PM EST
A;. We first must come to an agreement on “what is grading” and the “purpose of grading”. This can lead our conversations and planning on how we grade and how we provide feedback. #Admin2B
    • JPassItOn - Moderator Feb 5 @ 8:24 PM EST
#Admin2B Q4: How can we change the way we grade and give feedback to encourage a culture of student - centered, meaningful and personalized learning?

  • GenieneD - Moderator Feb 5 @ 8:28 PM EST
Definitely a commitment to a new way of "grading" - but the focus on learning and not 'memorizing' is essential. #admin2b
