The official educational chat of BrainPOP. Like most Twitter chats, BPOPchat is structured around six to seven open-ended guiding questions, so there’s easy entry points for sharing and getting ideas.
Hello Aimee from Buffalo, NY. As a computer technology teacher I have used flipped learning as part of my everyday practices! It was a great way for me to bridge the gap on skills that I could not get to during class time #bpopchat
Jessie Erickson, CBE from Grand Forks, ND. I love to share links on Google Classroom to allow student choice in reading material or video clip to learn more about topic. BP resources are great choices here! #bpopchat
a1: Hi Everyone, it's Andrew from BrainPOP. flipped and blended both take advantage of using all time, space and locations for thinking and engaging = ie: learning. #BPOPchat
A1: Both use online resources for instruction. Blended uses a combo of face to face with online, flipped uses online with supported practice after the instruction. #bpopchat
This is awesome! Would love to hear more about how you use Make-a-Movie in your classroom! Join our #BPOPchat that's happening right now! https://t.co/RGAP7cKD5B
Mae, CBE from the St. Louis area. I teach special education 3-5. I try and use blended and flipped learning to help meet the needs of all my students. #bpopchat
A blended learning and flipped environment provides students a multitude of opportunities to develop real-world skills while being active learners. #BPOPchat
A1 Hey All! Robert from BrainPOP here! Flipped and Blended--- combining both online resources and familiar real world connection with anytime, anyplace #bpopchat
A2: I love to use Google Classroom and Manage my classroom with BrainPop so I can differentiate what online materials recommended to my students. I also like to offer some choice to the students within these resources. #bpopchat
#bpopchat A3: I had a branded classroom name to establish community and identity, then our own hashtag for further identity and reference. My old students still search Google for #maxclassonline for nostalgia's sake.
A3: We need to teach our students how to be productive and caring members of society both online and off. This can be achieved by modeling best practices and behavior. @Brainpop also provides great resources to teach about online safety! #BPOPchat
A3: Know your students, support their learning styles and needs, and be present (in person or online). Select materials that can scaffold instruction and give students a clear path for learning - like BrainPop :) #Bpopchat
Yes @Jessie! So important to be present and available for your students (in person or online). And BrainPOP offers the perfect resources for scaffolded instruction and to give you students a clear path for learning. #BPOPchat
A3: Treating students like human beings. Showing care can happen both on and off line. Addressing your biases that hinder inclusive classrooms important at as well. #BPOPChat
A4: Reflection is so important. We use a variety of tools, such as: #Googleforms for peer and self reflection, @flipgrid to make video reflections and more! #BPOPchat
A4: Reflection can take many forms. Video with @Screencastify@Flipgrid Make a Movie, @edpuzzle or other creation like: Make a Map, Creative Coding, Google Suite tools, and more. Should take place during and after learning (home and school). #bpopchat
a4 - #BPOPchat - personal reflection works well online - group reflection f2f, as there is much communicated non-verbally. Flipgrid seems to meet a nice middle ground though.
@Jessie Yes, so many great ideas for student reflection including BrainPOP's Make a Movie, Make a Map and Creative Coding! And don't forget SnapThought for reflection during game play on BrainPOP's Gameup platform #BPOPchat

#bpopchat A5 Consistancy and updates! Make it interactive and reference the flipped stuff in class... get a sense of FOMO going! Be aware for options of those that have less access at home.
A5: Being present both online and offline. I am currently teaching an online class to adults. I make weekly videos where they see my face and I explain the necessary steps it takes to complete the module. #BPOPchat
#BPOPchat A5: It is important to know what access students have outside of school. It's is a good idea to involve the parents/guardians so they know how to use the resources to help their child outside of school - one cannot make assumptions about technology access or ability
A5: This is a great place to start. Set expectations for learning, be fair and consistent. Innovative, interactive and responsive to the needs of the students. Make it the right mix of challenge and FUN! #bpopchat

@Lauren Johnson The students played Wave Combinator - I wanted them to compare the waves, discuss wavelength and amplitude and how they could relate the wave to a sound. #BPOPchat
Q6 My favorite is Make a Movie! It's a fan favorite with my students. Love they can share their learning and reflect on a topic in a fun and creative way! And they love making their own BrainPOP style movies with Moby in them! #BPOPchat
A6: sorry I'm late...I love Creative Coding! Students feel like they are "coding" rather than learning. Of course, coding is learning! They can use computational thinking skills to spread their knowledge on content! #BPOPchat
#bpopchat A6 Those mixed quizzes can set tone, baseline, etc.... start the next day off running! Don't forget about those Summary Reports to review together!
A6- My favorite tool is Make-a-Map. It allows the students to become the teachers and share their knowledge of the topic while also promoting creativity! #BPOPchat
A6: Where to start??? My current favorite is Make a Map.
However, there is s much to love: Assignments, Newsela, Mix a Quiz, Creative Coding, Snap thought, Make a Movie, Game Up, Make a Map..... Choices!!! #bpopchat
A7- I look for a resource in which the students become the teachers. They are able to "show what they know" in a fun engaging way that promotes PLEARNing! #BPOPchat
A7: The resources that are shared with students should be high quality, engaging, easy to access, relevant, reliable, valid and safe. Exactly why I quickly share BrainPop with families with out hesitation. #bpopchat
@Holly Spangler Projectile Motion, Hot Air Balloon, last week Wave Combinator and Wave on a String. Thinking about assigning Bird Song Hero but I even had trouble with that one. #BPOPchat
A7: It must be concise and easy to understand so both the student and the parent (if needed) can decipher the information given. If it is a video, I always have the 3-5 minute rule. #BPOPchat
Glad to hear you have tried so many Gameup games with your students. How are you using SnapThought with them? Are you providing prompts? Or just letting them reflect as they play? #BPOPchat
#BPOPchat A6: I really like the SnapThought tool - to be able to stop the video and have the students think critically and write about what they just learned, helps them remember.
