I am Lisa Johnson. I work as an Ed Tech at a 1:1 iPad HS in Austin Texas. I love teal, planners, reading, washi, and productivity hacks. 😉 #creativelyproductive#tlap
I'm Janice FLeming and I'm studying Digital Communication in Education with @ghartman at Lindenwood University. This is my second time participating in a Twitter chat. #tlap
Hello, #TLAP#PLN! I am Anna, a teacher from San Diego who values creativity and productivity. I cannot wait to learn new ideas from everyone tonight! #CreativelyProductive
Enjoying #tlap from beautiful NM! Playing Mario Bros Deluxe w/ my boy and chatting with you all! Multitasking at its best while trying to be #creativelyproductive
A1: I'm secretly really disorganized, so I got rid of anything I don't actually use and have one designated place for everything. That way I always know where things are. It works wonders for me! #creativelyproductive#tlap
A1: My favorite for digital organization is a custom desktop organizer. I am slightly obsessed with them. I made one with the book’s theme to get organized for the pre-release. #tlap#creativelyproductive
A1 My favourite strategy to stay organized is post its. I have to admit that I have been slacking getting back into the classroom, but new semester is starting and King of Post Its, Roman is coming back with a vengeance! Let's do this! #tlap
A1: My effective organized strategy is having my Google Drive in folders and no random docs floating around without a "home" I also need to leave my desk mess free before I go home #tlap
A1: my phone—keep all my notes in it, email back students right away, google drive easily accessed, Kindle has all my books..phone is my powerful teaching tool! #tlap
A1: I have a small turquoise colored spiral notebook and I'm always jotting down notes! I'm also a HUGE fan of post-it notes! Last year @AnnickRauch and I dove into the wonderful world of bullet journaling and that was fun, too! #tlap#creativelyproductive
A1 I have binders for each unit that are also replicated in folders on the school server. So many times, the old paper copies have saved me. Also helps organize the physical artifacts, posters, etc as I change the classroom decor (and me) for each unit #tlap
A1: I set up my email to categorize emails based upon the sender.
I have color coded folders in Google Drive and file away unit related materials. #tlap
A1: We're meant to have a strategy??? 😂 I have organised piles on my desk, folders & sticky notes on my laptop & lists, lists, lists all over the place. #tlap#CreativelyProductive
A1 I place EVERYTHING on the Gcalendar!
Also, I use @GoogleKeep faithfully. It is my to-do list each day. I have 2 lists.
1) A running to-do list--yellow
2) But, the green Google-Keep list is my YOU MUST accomplish each day list. I just move items to the green one ea/day.
#tlap
A1: I don't really have an effective method for email organization. Basically, I don't sit much but every time I return to my office I try to clear email. If it's something that needs more work than I have time for, I print it (sorry for wasting paper). #tlap
A1 The MOST effective strategy to keep me organized is my phone...reminders, calendar, alarms. I do have a bulletjournal for meetings and such where using my phone would look rude. 😉#creativelyproductive#tlap
A1: I use @toodledo to help keep track of my to-do lists. Very easy to use and helps me prioritize day-to-day tasks.
I'm also a huge fan of @boomerang. I can schedule emails to be sent later so I don't caught up in a chain of emails all day.
#creativelyproductive#tlap
Folder for everything electronic. To do lists like crazy. I have specific places for everything. Deleting emails right away if i do not need them has also been helpful. #typeA#tlap
A1: *Email: organized my inbox into 3 categories: important, starred, and everything else.
*Desk: A senior, Amber, cleans my desk & helps me stay neat looking.
*Classroom: A place to put things and everything in place.
*Digital: Google Keep, Drive, & Photos. #tlap
A1: As an addict to presenting PD, having a profesional co-presenter/friend who is organized is an invaluable life hack.
Also, @evernote and @googledocs are no brainer must have apps and that’s obvious.
#creativelyproductive#TLAP
A1 I have a lot of to do lists for long term items. For class materials I have a class website that I build for each of my 8 general units. It contains the various choices and necessary docs students may need. #tlap
A1- I don’t know what I ever did before Google Calendar and Google Keep! Oh, yeah- I annoyed my teaching BFF to death! lol @mswoodysclass#tlap#CreativelyProducitve
A1b: How could I foget, the most basic organizational tool ever...my teacher planner! It's actually hard for me to use at times b/c I enjoy using tech so much! #tlap
A1: Using digital tools to organize myself. Moving everything from my to-do list to my master files online so that there is less clutter. #tlap#creativelyproductive
A1: We are a @MicrosoftEDU District, so I use @OneNoteEDU. I have a “To Do,” “In Progress,” & “Done” system each week. I always empty my inbox before the end of each day & add “To Dos” to my list for the next day. I set up structures in each Notebook & stick to the system. #tlap
In reply to
@TechChef4u, @MicrosoftEDU, @OneNoteEDU
A1: I love checklists! I have a daily set of priorities and it keeps me focused on the things I want and need to be doing each day. It’s starts with getting into 5 classrooms and ends with writing a handwritten thank you note - with other priorities in between. #tlap
Q1: Google Drive is where I keep my life... easy to organize, access, and search. Everything else in my life is much less organized... I’m good at cleaning house (pitching everything) every once in a while! Looking forward to hearing good ideas! 🤷🏻♀️ #tlap
Folder for everything electronic. To do lists like crazy. I have specific places for everything. Deleting emails right away if i do not need them has also been helpful. #typeA#tlap
A1 I have been doing a bunch of changes recently. I started clearing out my email daily and created a TO-DO folder that to have to clear out by the end of the week. That has made me happy. #CreativelyProducitve#tlap
A1: I LOVE Google Keep!!! I use it for to-do lists, to share resources, to tag websites that I want to read more on. For email I use the filters in gmail and I have lots of folders in my Google Drive #tlap
A1: Lists. I have lists about lists. I have lists on Post-its. I have digital lists with Keep. I’ve even caught myself walking down the hall with a list to remember all that I left my room to get. Feeble attempts to stay somewhat less unorganized! 🤷🏻♀️ #tlap
A1: The best way for me to stay organized this year is by linking docs on the calendars I make on GoogleDrive. I link my daily lesson plans and resources each day, so students can access them if they are absent or go back to a day they want to review. #TLAP#CreativelyProductive
A1: My favorite for digital organization is a custom desktop organizer. I am slightly obsessed with them. I made one with the book’s theme to get organized for the pre-release. #tlap#creativelyproductive
A1: I try to give an immediate response to emails as soon as I open them. I star important emails to return to later. ⭐️ I use a paper monthly calendar for unit planning, daily to do lists on digital sticky notes, and use google calendar for meeting invites. #tlap
A1: In Google, I have color-coded folders and I color-code events on my Google calendar (yellow = lesson, pink = collab, purple = change in location) It really helps me because I'm such a visual person! #tlap
A1: Each week, I take time to write a brain dump to do list of everything that I need to complete in the next week. I add to it throughout the week. On a daily basis, I use the @bestselfco planner to keep me focused on that which matters most. #tlap
A1 - I use a OneNote “dashboard” system. The front page is a calendar and running to-do list organized by priority, with links to pages with all the important details #tlap
A1: This may sound strange but I organize my Google Suite materials with browser bookmarks. This way my online content can stay in the same folder. Energy, Plants... #TLap
A1: institute the 5 min rule= if the task takes less then 5, get it done. End the day with “The Daily File”, Mark it and store it, go out the door! #tlap
A1: I also have a 5 minute rule. If something comes up and I can take care of it in under 5 minutes, I stop what I’m doing, take care of it, the resume. This way, things don’t add up and weigh on my mind. #tlap
Hey y’all!! About to land in ATL but wanted to pop in and say thanks for being here and joining #CreativelyProductive author, @TechChef4u tonight! My recent blog talks about her pre-release!! 5 Updates in 3 Minutes: https://t.co/XhC1p3dmSA#tlap
A1+: My google drive could be more organized but I'm getting better at keeping things in folders. The search features and remembering to list by topic help #tlap
A1: oddly(because I use G Suite and iOS native apps mostly) - I use OneNote for my lists.
Well - paper actually. But then I transfer to Onenote at the end of every day. Makes no sense! For all else: G Suite
#tlap
A1: I use #GTD and externalize my brain by writing every actionable task down as soon it comes to mind. I use @todoist to help me with this. This really helps us be present w/our Ss #tlap
A1: I work with lists! Lists at home. Lists at work. And good old fashioned pen and paper lists. Crossing things off feels sooooo good!! What if I think of an item to add to my to do work list? I email myself and add it to the paper the next morning! #tlap#creativelyproductive
A1
I keep checklists:
Google Keep
Digital notepads
Google calendar
I send emails, text messages and voice mail to myself reminding me to check things off the list
I make it a priority to look over the list and check a few things off before work and again before I go home
#tlap
A1: I record EVERYTHING in my planner that I keep open on my table in my classroom and at the end of the day it goes into my bag and home with me. If I don’t write it down, it’s forgotten. #tlap
Q2: What strategies are most effective to you (or your students) for avoiding distractions and managing procrastination? Share strategies and tools (e.g. analog or digital)? #creativelyproductive#tlap
I don't really get work done during the day so if I can at least clear up some of the 150+ emails I get a day, then I can get to work when the kids leave #tlap
That’s such good advice to wait on the email that really takes time. I feel like I’m often reacting to email and not really responding thoughtfully. Time to get me a ream of recycled paper and print!
A1: We were asked to set up Substitute binders. I decided to set it up and use it myself. This way I only have 1. It's an incomplete process so far. Basics are there. I need a digital one. #tlap
A1: I use Wunderlist for my To-Do lists. For lesson planning I don't have a great system. I currently have a Google Doc divided into quarters with standards for each quarter and links to unit items I might want to use. #tlap
Well, you might get a lot of incredible ideas. Also, the book by @TechChef4u#CreativelyProductive is FULL of ideas and you can take them in bitesize increments. :)
You can preview it free here. Scroll to bottom & Free preview.

A1 tidy. Tips for tidy. I may be in the wrong chat 💛 what is that saying about the messy desks meaning extreme creativity?....maybe I should go with that.
My home desk is organized and my refrigerator and my pantry .... but the rest of my life ....creativity is a virtue 😉#tlap
Hey there #tlap crew! Wanted to say hello and shout out the AMAZING @TechChef4u She ROCKED #leadlap this weekend! Can’t wait to get this book!! Creatively Productive: https://t.co/Dy7oRGmhUN
A2: setting deadlines for myself and using Google Calendar to keep track. This year, I'm working to keep the promises to myself just like I would work to keep promises to others. #tlap
Q2: What strategies are most effective to you (or your students) for avoiding distractions and managing procrastination? Share strategies and tools (e.g. analog or digital)? #creativelyproductive#tlap
A1: I love using my Google Calendar! I put everything in there and can color code it to keep things organized. I love how I can attach any G Drive file to an event, tag people, and how it syncs from my app to my computer.
This year, I'm using it for reflection as well. #tlap
A2 - we always start class with a check-in and I ask students to generate (1) what are we learning. (2) what’s coming up, (3) pro-tips. We also have a daily log for students who miss class, we populate that together. #tlap
A2: For distractions, it is more about conversations and awareness. This past week we did a cell phone challenge at the HS for staff and students. #tlap#creativelyproductive
Q2: What strategies are most effective to you (or your students) for avoiding distractions and managing procrastination? Share strategies and tools (e.g. analog or digital)? #creativelyproductive#tlap
A2: For me, it is setting time goals. For example, on my Google Keep I have 'Daily' tasks, 'Weekly' tasks and 'Monthly' tasks so I have that end goal in mind whenever I look it over #tlap
A2 To avoid distractions, I need to put my phone away and close the door if I am at school. It is so easy to check notifications or get side tracked by conversations, so when I need to stay on task, I really take the time to concentrate and just do it. I had to today lol #tlap
Q2: What strategies are most effective to you (or your students) for avoiding distractions and managing procrastination? Share strategies and tools (e.g. analog or digital)? #creativelyproductive#tlap
A1: Google Classroom is great as you can set due dates which automatically get placed on a Google Calendar. I make a hand-written To-Do list each week and add to it - I love the satisfaction of marking things off the list! #tlap
Q2: What strategies are most effective to you (or your students) for avoiding distractions and managing procrastination? Share strategies and tools (e.g. analog or digital)? #creativelyproductive#tlap
A1: I write to-do lists in my phone, on post it notes by my teacher desk at work and my desk at my apartment, and start an email draft with a list of everything I need to do for the week. I also write everything down in a planner for the week! #creativelyproductive#tlap
A2: I try my best to find quiet times to work. I am most productive when it's quiet or when there is a ballgame on in the background - doesn't even matter which sport. #tlap
Mostly, I'm a paper person. Lists, notes, my planner. Do lots of thinking on my afternoon commute about how the day went, new ideas etc, so when I arrive home I often email myself a list. #tlap
A1c. Another favorite is Google Keep! I love how I can keep a to-do list on there and mark tasks off when I complete them. I also love that I can give them labels and hashtags to make it easy to search. ALSO- the notes are kept so pretty with the variety of colors .#tlap
A2: For Ss, having a visual checklist and placed away from distracting elements (even if it means working on the floor) is what works for us. Setting myself reminders of time needed to complete a task if starting well before deadlines is what helps me. #tlap
My home list is still paper. With Google Keep, you can change it to the checkbox format to get that same sense of completion by checking off the item. I work in 4 school districts, so having 4 different planners was too much! Keep is easier #tlap
A2: Turn off or remove phone etc to help with distractions. Procrastination...I'm a master at it - I'll even clean, & I hate cleaning! I work best when a deadline is fast approaching, or so I tell myself but I not it's not true. #tlap#creativelyproductive
A2: I give myself set times to work on things. Instead of framing it 'I need to get____done' I think 'I'm going to work for x-amount of time'. If I have an end time I tend to be more focused and productive #creativelyproductive#tlap
A2: Taking action - even small - is the antidote to procrastination. Also love the Pomodoro Technique. Finally, do the most important task until completion before moving on -- splitting time/energy between even two tasks decreases productivity by 40%! #creativelyproductive#tlap
A2: Lists help me get organized in the morning but I often get side-tracked with most-preferred tasks like getting into classrooms and connecting with kids. I do need deadlines for least preferred tasks #tlap
A2. Students need clear expectations, so something like the “stoplight sign” helps kids in blended learning env to know purpose. Communication and expectations. #TLAP
A2: When I was working on National Board...I found so many awesome ways to distract myself (The lawn needs to be mowed! The dishes!). I do best when I make myself do work in 15 minute chunks and then take a break. #tlap
Q2: What strategies are most effective to you (or your students) for avoiding distractions and managing procrastination? Share strategies and tools (e.g. analog or digital)? #creativelyproductive#tlap
A2: There are amazing Google Extensions and Add-Ons for productivity. Open Google Chrome Webstore in your browser and search. I had my students use specific add-ons to help them focus on their goals. #tlap
I'm CRAZY about keeping my inbox cleared. If it's an email I need to take action on, it's unread until I've responded/acted on it. If it's taken care of, it's filled in a folder. 😎🤓 #CreativelyProductive#tlap
A2 If I'm focused on a project...I listen to Alpha Waves frequencies. It helps me concentrate like none other.
There =so much science to it, but I won't bore you.
This one is my fave...
https://t.co/pNs1Iq7WUN#tlap
*TMM-fact: I wrote my book, Be REAL, listening to these!
A2: To do lists in side of Google Keep. I also use Google Tasks and Google Calendar. Constant reminders help me to remember what important tasks I have coming up. Without these tools- I would surely forget so many things. #tlap
A2: Last week, I tried to give them just-enough-achievable-time for an activity so that they would hustle, and they did! It seems to work for in-class productivity. As far as long-term projects, it is helpful to have check-ins for smaller sections of a larger project. #TLAP
A2: The strategy changes all the time, but with one of more easily distracted classes, I once had a checklist we went through as a class before we even got started it included statements for Ss to reflect on how prepared they were to learn.
#creativelyproductive#tlap
Q2: my Ss make weekly goals, gives them direction. Sometimes in the midst of projects before we get started they make a short list of what they want to get accomplished in the time they have.
I’m a list maker, and I prioritize my tasks. @asana is my fav tool 4 this! #tlap
A2: I try to keep my list of things to do current and just focus on one at a time. If it is something that needs done and I have human distractions, I go somewhere that no one is and just work #TLAP
A2 procrastination is the opposite of progress. Never put off until tomorrow what you can accomplish today. Multi task - plan - set goals - use checklists - stay on point - have an accountability partner who would redirect you 📍#tlap
A1: My room is run by bins and 5 gallon buckets. I love 5 gallon buckets. I emptied my closet for a quiet space and put the shelf behind the class door. Hung a curtain on it. #tlap
I had monthly layout pages but also pages for my blog posts and social media stats. It really helped me stay focused and realize the areas I needed to work on! #tlap
A2: Google Keep. So many important thoughts that somehow get misplaced are always safe in electronic format. With Keep, I can prioritize life and make forward progress on goals and initiatives. #tlap
Q2: What strategies are most effective to you (or your students) for avoiding distractions and managing procrastination? Share strategies and tools (e.g. analog or digital)? #creativelyproductive#tlap
A2: With students, using Scrum to manage group projects increases their productivity immensely. It forces Ss to focus on only one task at a time and to do that which is most important first. #CreativelyProductive#tlap
A2: I find it helpful (with some things) to get a little bit done each day. There’s so many weekly bulletins and newsletters and updates to write, that if I do a little bit each day, I don’t put it off. #tlap
A2: when I need to focus I HAVE to put my phone across the room, silent mode, and get the job done. A fresh cup of coffee nearby doesn't hurt either #TLAP
A2: There is great satisfaction in listing a task and then being able to cross it off! I reflect on what I need to do the night before or the morning of that day and then return to that list when I feel off-task! Students could do the same thing daily! #tlap
Q2: What strategies are most effective to you (or your students) for avoiding distractions and managing procrastination? Share strategies and tools (e.g. analog or digital)? #creativelyproductive#tlap
I also try to break down each bigger assignment into checkpoints that are one criteria each, with a simple one-point rubric. Then Ss give/get feedback at a pace that allows them to use it to improve! #tlap
I extensively use the calendar on my phone, alerts, alarms, etc. I also agree with completing the task in front of me before moving on to something else. I like the idea of project checkpoints, too! #tlap
A2- For my students, I try to break tasks into small, manageable chunks and use a timer to give short deadlines. For myself,... I haven’t figured it out yet! 😂 #tlap
A2
I keep a schedule..notes on calendar...a digital post-it note on my desk top...regular post-it notes on my screen
I set alarms on my phone and on calendar as gentle reminders to get things done
#tlap
Q2: What strategies are most effective to you (or your students) for avoiding distractions and managing procrastination? Share strategies and tools (e.g. analog or digital)? #creativelyproductive#tlap
Q3: What is the predominant note-taking tool for your students (analog or digital)? Are there any tips or templates you share w/ your students to support them w/ note-taking? #creativelyproductive#tlap
Yes! This! Putting a timer up on the board, or telling students "you have 1 minute to..." does keep things moving and keeps a high state of action and interest. And I def do the check-ins for those longer projects! #tlap
A2: Last week, I tried to give them just-enough-achievable-time for an activity so that they would hustle, and they did! It seems to work for in-class productivity. As far as long-term projects, it is helpful to have check-ins for smaller sections of a larger project. #TLAP
Hey #tlap, Matt from MO. 7th grade American history. Arriving late and, I think, for the 1st time (or 1st in forever)
A1. I live with clutter, but am opposed to it on a deep level. I try plastic trays for my desk drawers (pens, paper clips, etc.) & love color-coded Drive folders.
A2: I set a digital timer for my second graders to keep them focused and on task. The website, Classroom Timers, has a variety of fun timers to choose from! #tlap
I LOVE music for helping to stay on task. Works great with students, too, especially when they are working on writing assignments! #tlap#creativelyproductive
It works well for me! If I only think about the things I'd like to get done I get quickly overwhelmed. I can handle a specific time period though! creativelyproductive #tlap
A2: for me: music and keeping my fun to do list items at the end as the reward. I also like doing the quick tasks first so I feel accomplished. For students: visual timer and visual schedule! #tlap#creativelyproductive
@edtechmarcus makes a keep note for each day of the week and pins them to the top- rotating daily to do lists. He makes a cool graphic in canva for the header of each. Love this strategy! #tlap#CreativelyProductive
A2b: When I’m really not feeling productive, it’s usually because I need to get up and get moving. I find it a lot easier to focus after a game of 4-square with our 3rd graders or after joining a class for PE. I get some exercise and my brain gets some oxygen. #tlap
It is! But it's such a perfect fit for Ss, too. It teaches them to prioritize, focus on one task at a time, and work effectively as a team. My Ss love it, and the quality of work they produce is incredible. #tlap
A2: I am a break things apart into manageable pieces person. I finish more when not overwhelmed with something large all at once! It works for me, works from my own kids at home, and works well in the classroom. #tlap
A2: Having a calendar that shows what is coming up. I use a Google sheet where upcoming lessons and resources are linked and I add this information to a calendar on Canvas for my students each week. #tlap#creativelyproductive
A1 My most effective strategy is keeping an zero inbox. (Yes, I'm one of those!) I find it makes me DO something with each email - put it in a pre-categorized box in Google Keep, respond, delete, or act. #tlap
Q3: What is the predominant note-taking tool for your students (analog or digital)? Are there any tips or templates you share w/ your students to support them w/ note-taking? #creativelyproductive#tlap
Q3: What is the predominant note-taking tool for your students (analog or digital)? Are there any tips or templates you share w/ your students to support them w/ note-taking? #creativelyproductive#tlap
I've been paperless for 3 or 4 years and it makes a huge difference. I joke (sort of) with colleagues that I want to start a stop watch every time they shuffle papers, load bags, deal w/ paper clips, photocopy, etc.: @evernote, phone scanner, Preview #creativelyproductinve#tlap
Game changing app from the folks at Google. Keep operates like a post-it note, but in electronic format. Probably sitting in your Google Drive right now. You can also build in time and location reminders. #tlap
A2: I’ve finally recognized when I’m in avoidance mode! I will pick just about anything to avoid the task. When I do this, I have to make myself attend and plow through! #tlap
A3: I let them take notes however they want. I prefer digital notes, and I prefer to do it in my own style so they have choice as well. Most use Google Docs w/good naming of files. #tlap
A3 as a reading specialist, I have them use pen and paper - make those mental connections! Sketch note. I show them different note-taking strategies, but it’s an individual art form. BUT - always have questions! #tlap
A2. Esp. during PBL projects, we use weekly personal & team planners/goal sheets. Ss reflect on their own performance & that of their teammates at the end of the week & make plans to improve. #tlap
A3: I’m actually struggling right now to help students with note taking... 4th graders and can’t be digital because we are not 1 to 1. Would love to hear ideas!!! #4thchat#tlap
Q3: What is the predominant note-taking tool for your students (analog or digital)? Are there any tips or templates you share w/ your students to support them w/ note-taking? #creativelyproductive#tlap
A3: Notetaking is an easy way to build choice into a lesson. I always provide at least three diff templates for Ss to use -- Cornell Notes, Cornell Notes for Doodlers, Tree Map, etc. The key is that they're taking them, and they're more likely to do it if they have a say. #tlap
A3: I have started playing with some digital note-taking templates for students (to be annotated on an iPad). This is a few pages from the Art History AP digital note-taking guide I built last semester. #tlap#creativelyproductive
A3: I used to take notes on a tablet or computer but after reading some research on the processing power of handwritten notes, I now take notes by hand. I like to sketch or web my notes to aid in processing. #tlap
A3: I would say it depends on the student! If you prefer they turn their work in digitally but they prefer hand-writing, you can always have them use the insert << image << by camera.
#tlap
A1: I do a hybrid technique of organization. I live by my Google Calendar. I also love the sticky notes option on my computer for remembering long term or big projects. Actual sticky notes for to dos and everyday things. #tlap
A3: I would say it depends on the student! If you prefer they turn their work in digitally but they prefer hand-writing, you can always have them use the insert << image << by camera.
#tlap
A3 we use some form of visual notetaking in my class mostly — kids often get sketchnote templates to guide their note taking - sometimes we take notes together.... #tlap I’d...
A3 I am an old-fashioned note taker on paper. I try to show my students how I did it back in the day. For books, I love post it flags for reading. Digital, it is Google Docs. I have a 2019 goal for dabbling with sketchnoting (freaking out...not an artist) lol #tlap
Q3: What is the predominant note-taking tool for your students (analog or digital)? Are there any tips or templates you share w/ your students to support them w/ note-taking? #creativelyproductive#tlap
A3: I like using fill-in-the-blank notes and then some reflective questions at the end for us to review our notes. Helps them make some immediate connections to the things we looked at. Excited to read the answers of others! #tlap
A3: When our students are working on their Kindness Passion Projects, each Ss has a planning page to help organize their notes into sections that match their Google Slides template they receive the next month. Works wonders for organization! #tlap#creativelyproductive
Q3: What is the predominant note-taking tool for your students (analog or digital)? Are there any tips or templates you share w/ your students to support them w/ note-taking? #creativelyproductive#tlap
A2: I know this is a typical student answer, but I struggle with doing anything before the last minute. So I own it. I know I could sit for an hour staring at the screen or be productive on other tasks and worry about today. Not the best philosophy but somehow it works. #tlap
A3: We really don't do a lot of formal notetaking. But students usually choose to use Notes on their iPad if they need to, but some also choose to handwrite. I'm going to introduce sketchnotes this year. #tlap#CreativelyProductive
A3: In my fifth grade ELA/SS class we use journals. We create anchor charts together, sketch notes, and many other types of notes. I think it is important to scaffold note taking at this age. I’m impressed by how often they refer back to them. #tlap
A3: I like to record videos for the teaching moments using @Screencastify. This allows students to pause and catch up on their misunderstandings/notes/etc. #tlap
A3: I’m totally PDing some note taking strategies with teachers this week! I like to model a variety with students and gradually let them choose the method that works best for them, but I always prefer the hand written type of note.
#CreativelyProductive#TLAP
A3: I used to teach middle school and taught them various @AVID4College note-taking strategies. Once I moved to high school seniors, I offered choices and allowed them to pick what worked for them. I also modeled strategies that worked for me. #tlap
A3 I believe from what I have observed that we are using devices for notes most often but students still have opportunities to take notes on paper #tlap
A3: learning more and more about visual note taking, but I see this as a great skill to build and give Ss options/choice here #tlap#CreativelyProductive
Yes, but if you want to really dig into the power of @Wakelet , you need to do a video demo with @JBDbiz or one of the team. You will be amazed at what it can do! :) But yes, if you just want a tip, I'll provide that. #tlap
In reply to
@mexusmx, @gettinglostcamp, @wakelet, @wakelet, @JBDbiz
A3: Efficiently digital notes for math classes is difficult, but my CS classes rely on digital notetaking. I like to provide handouts in both cases though so that the Ss can focus on what they're adding and avoid focusing on just copying details down.
#tlap#creativelyproductive
A3 I have them do both. I like the brain to hand action of recording vocabulary/notes, but I also keep a digital copy in Classroom for anyone that needs them. #UDL#tlap
I also really love sketch notes!
A3: We've had several teachers @FCHSPanthers experiment with #SketchNotes this year with great success. Students enjoy the individualism of the practice and it is a great tool for study and recall of information. #tlap
Q3: What is the predominant note-taking tool for your students (analog or digital)? Are there any tips or templates you share w/ your students to support them w/ note-taking? #creativelyproductive#tlap
A2b. For me personally, I started keeping a planner last year with weekly and monthly goals along the side. I try to plan which days I will work on which goal(s). #tlap
I saw that too but my handwriting is so bad and I can type faster than I can write. Plus synchronization on all my devices. I go back and forth on this one a lot for myself and Ss. #tlap
A3
All students are different
Their note-taking habits are too
Sketchnotes
Padlet
Google Docs, slides, sheets
Audio notes
Legal pads
Bullet journals
Notebook paper
Photos of the teacher notes
Rockrtbooks
And so on.....#tlap#creativelyproductive
Q3: What is the predominant note-taking tool for your students (analog or digital)? Are there any tips or templates you share w/ your students to support them w/ note-taking? #creativelyproductive#tlap
We take all of our notes in our notebooks. Somethings, we use foldables for and tape in, other they follow what I right. Recently, I have let them use different colors. #tlap#iteachmath
I will second the effectiveness of this music! I just started using this type of music by typing in "Chill Work Vibe!" It is MUCH more effective than my lullaby Disney instrumental piano music(even though I love to use that for calmer classroom moods). #TLAP#CreativelyProductive
A2 Headphones and Electronic music. That seems to keep me focused longer. Also if I go away from the house or classroom where I can’t visually see something that needs to be done I tend to get more done. #CreativelyProducitve#tlap
A3: When I was in the classroom, I was a big fan of 3 column notes. Column 1 = key term/idea; Column 2 = definition/example; Column 3 = their space to draw it, turn it into an acronym, a slogan, one word, whatever! #tlap
I teach math, so most Ss take notes using pencil-pen-paper. But the software is always improving, and more students are turning digital. A few at a time. Most stick with paper, though. #tlap
A3- I typically rotate between using Pear Deck for digital notes and sketchnotes on paper to kind of keep things “shaken up.” #tlap#CreativelyProducitve
A3 I'm a digital note-taker. I do NOT like writing them by hand. I stink at spelling! (Funny fact...being that I work for a publishing company & LOVE writing!)
I use Google Docs, OneNote and voice memos (on phone) during my commutes to transcribe when I get home. #tlap
A3) We use #OneNote and I have them use a template that scaffolds the question-followup process. I check it 1-on-1 at the beginning of the next class period so they can ask questions when they have them! #tlap
A3: Most of my students still record their work in a paper spiral. We use a toolkit from CPM to take more formal notes about big ideas and this year I introduced sketch notes as a strategy. Seeing students take more ownership of notes is awesome. #tlap#creativelyproductive
That's my goal, too! I'm such a sketchnoting newbie. Trying to overcome my fear of perfection! I've been dabbling with Procreate on the iPad. #tlap#creativelyproductive
I also teach math - we are paper/pen/pencil for the most part. I always have colored pencils available and encourage students to use them in their notes. Some do, some don't. #tlap
A3: I have recently introduced Sketchnoting to my second graders and they are loving it. It creates a great visual representation of their comprehension. #tlap
A3: When I assign the planning stage of a project I create a Google Sheet. Each Ss has their own tab. The top tab is for material request. Once we agree I use it as a shopping list. #Tlap
A3: I use an interactive notebook for note taking in science. I have students create an idea book in my steam class and encourage them to take notes however they like with the minimum requirement that the page contain words, sketches, and numbers. #tlap
A3: Ss are currently learning the Cornell Note-Taking method using paper/pencil. The simple visual organization is appealing for 3rd grade. Currently drawing the template themselves in composition books prepping for research...this will be transferred to electronic later. #tlap
Check out @getRocketbook wave !! Take paper pencil notes, immediately upload wherever you want (Google, OneDrive, Dropbox), erase pages in microwave and Repeat! #tlap
Q3: I let them decide after teaching both. I use both depending on what I am learning. Biggest tip with digital, is you really need to type or sketch out out. #tlap
Q3: What is the predominant note-taking tool for your students (analog or digital)? Are there any tips or templates you share w/ your students to support them w/ note-taking? #creativelyproductive#tlap
A3: I do a whole week long unit on notetaking. We try a different strategy each day and at the end of the week they decide which one works best for them. There's an episode of the @cultofpedagogy podcast using stations to do the same thing. #tlap
I used to use colored pencils all the time in math! Perfect way for Ss to show which step they are on when we use a specific process (long division, add/sub fractions, finding GCF, etc). #tlap
A4: Writing them down. Posting them where I can see them. Letting others know what they are too. Include my wife in them--> she's my biggest cheerleader #tlap
A4: For me, I have to make sure that my personal goals are really aligned to my values so I know I am moving in the right direction, so I do a values audit once a year or so: https://t.co/2TAJwiiEvD#tlap#creativelyproductive
A3 We mostly use pencil and paper along with graphic organizers. While I would love to go digital most my students don’t have tech at home so I don’t know if it would be beneficial. #CreativelyProducitve#tlap
A4: For professional goals, my colleague @tejashanson uses this idea of buckets to look at the areas that are passions and priorities for him and then makes these visible. Totally stealing this idea. ;) #tlap#creativelyproductive
When taking notes with my 4th graders, it's all about having that key. ❓= essential question, 😩 = problem, 😃 = solution.... And so on! #CreativelyProductive#tlap
A4: The goals that actually get accomplished are the goals that get verbalized and shared. If I know someone else knows, I will hold myself accountable.
#tlap#creativelyproductive
A4 I believe you have to have short term goals that build towards a bigger goal. You need to look at them daily and reflect on your progress. Goals need to be changed, adjusted and added to as necessary #tlap
A4. I use the 4 quadrants from Balance LAP (Positional, Professional, Personal and Passions). Most important is using reflective practices for your experiences. #TLAP
A4. Always remind yourself of your goals! Post them...everywhere!!! Bathroom, closet, etc! Make small steps to reach your ultimate goal! Don’t forget to celebrate the successes! #tlap#creativelyproductive
A4: Any goal I set or want to achieve I just figure out how to do it and then I do it. That's why I don't believe in New Year's resolutions- If you want something just go for it. No need to wait. Work harder than anyone and make it happen #tlap
A4: Read some @BrianTracy. Write. Your. Goals. Down. Daily. Write down what actions you will take to make them happen. Daily. TAKE ACTION. Daily. @bestselfco is hands down the BEST goal crushing tool I've found (and models parts of Tracy's method!). #tlap#CreativelyProductive
A4: I have to see my goals staring me in the face! I write them in my bullet journal and put them on post-it notes. I still have my "I will write a book" post-it that will stay right in my notebook until that goal is reached! #dreambig#tlap#creativelyproductive
A2: I block out scheduled meetings, then attempt to complete quick tasks, email requests, and schedule organization within the first hour. I, then, prioritize my to do list and block out 1/2 hour windows for completion. #tlap
A4 - Structure —> Creativity. Do all the planning first, then take a break, then execute on the creative part. I collect all the links, quotes, contact info first, set up templates, etc. Then take a break. Then come back and do the creative work. #tlap.
A4 I need to share my goals with some of my closest friends. I need accountability partners. There are so many things I want to do and when I have someone who believes in me and gives me a little push, nudge or reminder to some big goals; it helps. #tlap
Yes! use them lots in geometry for highlighting different parts of a diagram. Or graphing multiple lines on the same grid, or... some many ways to use them! #tlap
Here's a quick @wakelet tweet curation:
Step 1: Create a new collection. Step 2. Click the Twitter icon. Step 3: Add the hashtag, keyword, or person to search. See image below. #tlap
In reply to
@mexusmx, @gettinglostcamp, @wakelet, @JBDbiz, @wakelet
A4: Take the time to plan and stick to it! I honestly print out calendars, plan my months as a sort of vision board (brainstorm), and journal/adjust from there. Oh, and follow through!! #tlap#CreativelyProductive
A4: Breaking goals down into specific action plans is so important. For professional goals, I am often working with a team and we leave each meeting with specific action plans. For personal goals, logging process and next steps daily is helpful. #tlap
A4: I ask myself, “When I’m successful at ______, it will look like _____.” That way I focus on the pieces along the way. Again. I need my work chunked. #TLAP
A4: I’m more task oriented and will most pick projects or tasks I want to do and work until it’s done. I’m not good at picking long term big goals but choosing a one word for the year might be the start of getting better at that! #tlap
A4.2: If we don't create a plan to reach our goals, they're just dreams - things we "wish." Wishing for something doesn't make it so, we must get the work done if we want something to happen. #tlap
A4: Staff give me feedback and I use it to set goals. Then I share my goals with staff and ask for their feedback again. And then I find an accountability partner to help me stay focused on those goals. #tlap
A4: Writing goals down, being specific & displaying where I can see them. Used #BalanceLAP to identify goals for each quadrant. Ss have goal books with their goals recorded & tracked. #tlap#CreativelyProductive
A4: Write it down! You can't reach something you don't intentional aim for and writing those intentions down and looking at them daily makes you more accountable and dedicated to your goals! #tlap
A4: Our school just started using the platform”Folio” for professional goals. It can be set for deadlines, notes by observers and participants, and keeps account of goal progress and requires goal discussion with peer/admin and reflection #tlap
A4: Best way to keep my goals, both professional and personal, is to keep them in front of me, visible often, and create action steps. Baby steps will get me there. #tlap
A4: Just do it! Gosh, I wish that worked. I need to write it down, give myself a specific deadline, and tell someone so I'm accountable for my goals #creativelyproductive#tlap
A4 I'm a visual person. I almost always make graphs. LOL. Ask @burgess_shelley@wenders88 & @burgessdave !
Once I can see my current reality, I set long term goals & bite-size goals.
I'm a ridiculous goal-setter, but it works for me. I even set daily (dorky) goals. ;)
#tlap
A4: creativity early in the morning. Lists throughout the day. Consolidation later. Thinking & planning 3 times a week. Twitter chats a few times a week (PLN, staying connected, learning!)Family every day (for perspective)
#tlap
I love the idea of using specific colored post-its to represent those categories, too. My book goals are all on turquoise post-its with my DBC one staring at me on my mirror each day! #tlap#creativelyproductive
A4: Setting short term and long term goals and writing them somewhere that I will see them. I have written them on post its, set them as backgrounds on devices , or created my own deadlines for certain tasks. #tlap#creativelyproductive
A3: I don’t have a great answer for this question, but from reading the thread, I want to know what #Sketchnotes are!!! Please enlighten me! #TLAP#CreativelyProductive
A2. Again, OneNote for students taking notes. They can import pics, screenshots, a document, and personalize notes to help make them memorable.. and organize notes easily! #tlap
A4: Pretty good at finding a way to just do it. Also, have a great support system & network of family, friends, & colleagues. #tlap#creativelyproductive
A2+ Procrastination gives me anxiety and I am motivated by crossing off tasks. I start on tasks immediately because I never know when I’ll be interrupted throughout the day. At the end of the day, I evaluate and prioritize for the next day. #tlap
A4 I need to share my goals with some of my closest friends. I need accountability partners. There are so many things I want to do and when I have someone who believes in me and gives me a little push, nudge or reminder to some big goals; it helps. #tlap
A4: We did a book study over The 4 Disciplines of Execution, and I'm a huge believer in lead (what will I do) and lag (what will the result be) measures. Accountability is also a big part of that. It's easier to achieve a goal when someone is helping you stay on track. #tlap
A4: I immerse into 1 thing at a time - knowing I'm going to have to take some forks in the road. If I can't get it I put it away for a while and move on. If it's a teaching skill (lesson planning, paper work, keeping records) I focus on 1 thing a year. #tlap
A4: Breaking goals down into specific action plans is so important. For professional goals, I am often working with a team and we leave each meeting with specific action plans. For personal goals, logging process and next steps daily is helpful. #tlap
Q4 My AP and I meet daily to dig deep into our needs and plans. Develop that accountability team that give you honest and focused feedback, then trust them. #tlap
A2 managing procrastination: I don't remember where I read it, but to every day make a list of things you need to accomplish and put the one you want to do least first on the list. #tlap
A4: I also think #reflecting on the goals you set is critical to accomplishing anything! If we don't take time to reflect on the process, we often never reach our desired destination! #tlap
A4. Set achievable goals for the month, plan out the process to accomplish them, & schedule specific days to work on elements. Also good to go back & reflect on goals I've accomplished, which helps my mindset. #tlap
A4: Accountability. The more people that know what I want to accomplish, the more people can help me reach my goals. I am very open about sharing what I dream to do/be. #tlap
#TLAP I've got to go! I've enjoyed you all tremendously! I will go back and read the threads later! I'm loving this! So informative. I promised myself to do more Twitter Chats, and TLAP was my 1st choice for 2019!
A5: Best practices have been to set times and dates, but build in wiggle room. I’ve been working on weight loss for the past year & my trick-the-brain practice has been to only document the losses, no matter how long in between. It’s helped me lose 70 pounds in a year! #tlap
My daughter is crying for Mommy, so I am going to bow out. Thank you for the awesome ideas #tlap@TechChef4u for sharing your genius! 🤩 Have an AMAZING week!
A4: again, I find partnering with someone trustworthy to professionally shame you to be very motivating but that might be unique to me and my Catholic upbringing. But I’ve read a lot more books now.
#CreativelyProductive#TLAP
A5: At the end of a lesson, especially the 1st time I do it, I ask the Ss for feedback: what they liked best, least, and what I could do to make it better. Ss reflect with me. Also blog my own reflections, and occasionally have Ss blog their reflections too. #tlap
A5: I love the daily closing circle I do with my kids where they share something they learned or practiced. It’s a great way to end the day and to listen in on what was most important to them in our day #tlap
A5: I reflect in the morning and at night on the progress I'm making towards my highest priorities. For my Ss, we take time each day for them to reflect on their own mastery, as well as time at the end of every major project for reflection. #tlap
A5: One of my personal faves is an annual reflective practice where I jot down accomplishments and events from each month as well as keep a running tally of things like books read. Helps me be more mindful and grateful. #creativelyproductive#tlap
A5 Having conversations with people are key. It is important to take time and reflect. Today, had a great conversation with @JeanFrancoDion I want to find a new reflective practice for my students for new semester. Stay tuned as I share some experiences. #tlap
Q5 - feedback portfolios! I have Ss regularly collect feedback and categorize as “celebration” or “growth”, they can carry that info forward to future work. IMO, feedback portfolio > product portfolio. #tlaphttps://t.co/QPwQKHR8vK
A5: Reflection is SO important! I love to reflect on my life as an educator, mom, and friend by writing stories on my website: https://t.co/5lWx2NLTvo. I love to provide Ss choice in reflection - either digital or hand-written (and post-its, too!) #tlap#creativelyproductive
A5. I practice meditation Monday with my students to help sets their minds right for class! Keep the baggage at the door once they enter that safe space (my classroom). We also have them reflect at the end of each week - the reflections vary #creativelyproductive#tlap
A5: I like using the #criticalfriends protocol in the classroom and with staff involved in professional development. A crucial component to this is listening to the feedback of others and incorporating that into your reflection process. #tlap
A5 I struggle with this. I am thinking of using #flipgrid for students to reflect. Give them a chance to see their growth over time. I do student conferences. But not sure if working yet #TLAP
A5: I like spending time with the #waledchat fam Thursday to reflect together. I also have a podcast that I need to start recording again to reflect. I find having conversations and asking questions to my Ss to guide their reflections usually produces fruit. #tlap
A4) start with gratitude! Then write down 10 goals as if they have already happened and one you really want to focus on. You will be amazed it works!!!!. #tlap
A5: After a lesson, term, or vacation, do 3-2-1 activity: such as “3 things you didn’t know before this class; 2 things that surprised you during this class; 1 way something from this class can be applied to your life” #tlap
A4: I have a hard time with this one because I feel like everything needs to be “just right” before finishing a goal. I need to be more kind and encouraging to myself so I actually complete what I start. #TLAP#CreativeProductivity
A5. As an admin I use the pic (it’s about developing others). When I taught, I tried to have students reflect how their words-actions-behaviors moved them towards reaching short term and long term goals. You must have a target in order to reach it. #TLAP
A5: After an event or activity, we spend time as a staff doing an eVALUE-ACTION. We list what we valued & what action we should consider taking next time. It helps us focus on the positive & areas for growth. I also keep a “Notes for Next Time” folder so I remember. #tlap
A5: Plusses and Deltas is also super easy to implement -- Ss reflect on what went well (plusses) and what they might change (deltas). #tlap#CreativelyProductive
I write in my journals the end of each day. A little about the events of the day, at least one gratitude, and a to do list for the next day. If there’s time leftover I doodle or color.#tlap
A5: I'm visual. I tend to reflect more over photos and video so I have been leaning that way. Paper journals too, but then those are way less shareable. #tlap
I love the permanent product that this creates. It allows you to reflect on the process and, when needed, return when you face a similar problem. #tlap
A5: My blog posts are very refelctive - maybe a little too much so at times. Some I need to track some eg. food diary in order to reflect. Want to incorporate more S reflection into our day. #tlap#CreativelyProductive
A3 I've only taught elementary& we didn't take notes. For me, lately, I've been using #sketchnotes. been researching/reading about it for 6 months, but just lately dove in - been practicing @ church, which is a lot of fun. Can't wait to do them @TCEA convention in a 2 weeks! #tlap
A5: I need to immediately find a bar and grab a drink to debrief after a really great lesson or PD.
However, of course, this process doesn’t work with students and that’s obvious.
#TLAP#CreativelyProductive
A5: On math pre/post tests Ss answer a confidence statement. ❤️ seeing them reflect at the beginning, usually statements are "I'm Confused." At end Ss are consistently at "I've Got It/Ready to Learn More" They 💜 seeing what they marked 7 weeks before & comparing the after. #tlap
A5. Echoing what many have said, blogging (https://t.co/HPVDBorLwa) helps me analyze and evaluate my professional and classroom goals and determine improvements and next steps. #tlap
A5: My focus for 2019 is truth. Working on finding out what my "blind spots" are & then improve based upon information. It's scary! Often I reflect privately, but here I need the help of others. Blog post: https://t.co/3OSAhAlst8#tlap#CreativelyProductive#Path2Serendipity
A5: I am constantly reflecting. I love to get students’ feedback to add to my reflection. Often times, I have the students reflect on their writing. We look at exemplar work and create small goals to make our writing better. #tlap
A5. Jornaling for reflection for Ss, getting them to write about things they feel they can change to do better in learning or to bring the love of learning to their core area. Sit and think and record changes that I want to make in things.#tlap
Talking things out with my colleagues, my best friend, and my husband, (both of whom are also teachers, is really helpful. I admire people who journal and blog, but I’ve never gotten into it myself. #tlap#CreativelyProductive
A4 I wasn't very good at this until I found a plan. One that works well for me is the @passionplanner. I'm going to switch, though, as I was spending too much time decorating. Having a plan with achievable goals and setting dates is #superimportant#tlap
A3: @cultofpedagogy has a recent podcast on note taking that I listened to. Basically focused on explicitly teaching different styles of note taking and then allowing Ss to choose what works for them. #tlap
A4 I keep a notes log on my phone and website - keeps me motivated each Jan 1st. Not all inclusive, but many of the highlights from each year. We can easily forget our successes in times of struggle. #tlap
A5: Personally, I reflect through sketchnoting or writing (poetry, blogging, etc.). This year, students reflect after assessments in a Google Slide digital portfolio and complete weekly reflection activities where they write (or draw). #tlap#creativelyproductive
A5: I think it is important to reflect in a way that allows you to return and reflect on previous learning experiences. We usually will face another situation with similar context and being able to return to a written reflection would aid decision making! #tlap
A5
Talk it through with a trusted colleague or partner or look in the mirror and say it out loud
Write it down, keep a journal or diary
Rate yourself!
#tlap#creativelyproductive
A5 I'm a daily journal writer. Noting fancy. I write/reflect in an ongoing Google Doc. It helps me process events in my life, notice patterns over time in my own behaviors & others, and really gives me a better picture of the "whole pic."
#tlap#CreativelyProductive
A5: Processing with others, giving and receiving feedback and coaching. The idea of others pushing my thinking and getting me to think deeply about my practice is invaluable. #TLAP
A4: Surround yourself with people who are going to build you up rather than tear you down. Carve out TIME. If it is important, it should take a priority in your life. This is super hard (Says the mom of 2 toddlers working on her dissertation) #tlap
A5: My students do a Metacognitive Reflection after every Summative Exam and at the end of a grading period. They refer to previous reflections to chart growth. I have seen students working through their misunderstandings and improving skills significantly! #TLAP
A5: Being full inclusion, I look for access/engagement. I'm visual so I remember disengagement once I've seen it. Kind of a curse, I can still see some of it to this day. I've gotten rid of entire units. I also reflect on meaning. Was I enamored by something & contrived #tlap
A5: My second graders create @Flipgrid videos for reflection. I reflect by closing my classroom door after dismissal and writing my thoughts about the day. #tlap
A5 I'm a daily journal writer. Nothing fancy. I write/reflect in an ongoing Google Doc. It helps me process events in my life, notice patterns over time in my own behaviors & others, and really gives me a better picture of the "whole pic."
#tlap#CreativelyProductive
A5 I don't put a lot of my reflections to paper, but I have about a 30 min drive to school each day. Some edupodcasts go really far in pushing me to reflect during my commute. #CreativelyProductive#tlap
A5: my students keep a digital portfolio on google sites where they document each project and write a reflection summary for everything they create. I tell them I’m not grading the product they end up with, I’m evaluating their design process. #tlap
A5 I wish I had some. I think it would be very helpful in reaching my goals. Now to read everyone's answer and see if I can find something that helps me! #tlap
A6: There are so many...recently The End of Average and What’s Math Got To Do With It...since linking up with #2menandabook book studies my prof library is exploding! #TLAP
A6: Here are a few of my all time favorites:
Goal Setting/Prioritization: Eat That Frog, Brian Tracy
Creating Innovators, Tony Wagner
Grit, Angela Duckworth
Drive, Daniel Pink
How Children Succeed, Paul Tough #tlap#CreativelyProductive
A5 I have a journal decided into three parts, doctoral reflection, professional reflection, school wide brainstorming. Capture those crazy ideas, they could just change the world! #tlap
A5-Part B: I also meet with each student individually to teach them how to grade their own work reflectively. It takes a lot of time and effort at the beginning of the semester, but the ownership-of-learning that I see in the students makes it worth it. #TLAP
I love listening to podcasts in the car. I usually have a 30-40 minute drive and I mix it up between educational podcasts and some "just for fun" ones #tlap
A6: Really enjoyed reading #tlap last year. Really thought-provoking and led me to make some solid action. Also really appreciated reading "The First Days of School" in my undergrad and my first year at my current school.
A4 - one of my main keys to staying organized - or how I approach the whole thing:
forgive thyself. stress less. Not everything will get done. that's ok. be in the moment as much as possible.
#tlap
A6: I could lose myself for YEARS reading @dbc_inc books! I love books written by educators for educators. I also love inspiring reads like The Happiness Equation and books that help me learn something new. #tlap#CreativelyProductive
A5: Blogging is probably my favourite way to reflect, but lunch with colleagues (or voxing and DMing with PLN) is a close second! Relating to others and talking things through does wonders and I could never do it alone! #tlap#creativelyproductive
A6: Also enjoy reading @effortfuleduktr's blog as a "non-book" read (inspired by @SteinbrinkLaura post. Blake is a brilliant mind that always leaves me thinking and challenges me to help me improve! #tlap
A6: For constant renewal of my "why" as an educator, I love reading the work of @DrTonyWagner and @dintersmith. I also enjoy the organizational psychology work from @AdamMGrant. For all things thought-provoking, I enjoy reading and listening to the work of @Gladwell. #tlap
A6 I'm sure my answer won't be all that original in this crowd, but anything from DBC! My top 2 game changers are Teach Like A Pirate and Ditch That Homwork, but I haven't read anything that I haven't loved (seriously the truth) #tlap
A6: #InnovatorsMindset was an important read & set me on a path to become a connected educator. I loved #TLAP of course, and #LeadLAP helped me take my leadership to the next level. I am SO excited for the release of @tamaraletter#PassionForKindness. Another life-changing book!
A6: I'm trying to absorb Inquiry Mindset. Weighing mastery, deficit model, PBL, Direct Instruction, Inquiry. Gotta get inclusion figured out.
Atypical Dev materials: Oliver Sacks, Temple Grandin, Richard Lavoie.
#tlap
Only digital with two passwords. LOL. If anyone got a hold of that journal...on some days...they might think I'm whacked beyond repair. ;)
#tlap#CreativelyProductive
A6: I could take too long to answer this question and I’m a bout to board my flight so I’ll just post this old shelfie slide. They’re all dope.
#CreativelyProductive#TLAP
Awww, thanks, Allyson! The journey from teacher to author is indescribable! Those post-it’s have kept me focused and on track - a life saver! (((Hugs))) #tlap#creativelyproductive
A6: I think there's also this idea that professional reads HAVE to be primarily ed focused (or written by teachers). Some of the most transformative books I've read as a T weren't written for Ts at all (Drive, for example). #tlap
A5: Can I just say I HATE agendas? Or at least the pointless ones where Ss copy ambiguous ideas down. I created my own 4 Ss, they write a daily reflection and reflect on weekly goal. Each morning they meet in “houses” to discuss goals and how they plan to achieve. #tlap
A6: I’ve loved every @dbc_inc book I’ve read and came up with a plan to gift many of them to my boys’ school to inspire change! So much gold in those books! #tlap#creativelyproductive
A7. I have to try it right away.
As an example, when I read #eduprotocols, I implemented the "Fast & Curious" that week. Once I use it & figure out what works for me/my students, I can make it my own. #tlap
I’m working w/ 2 other Ts to apply ed research in the development of an evidence-based feedback tool. This white paper summarizes our philosophy behind feedback practices. The tool is https://t.co/W7nneDYv3A. Would love your thoughts on it! #tlap
A7 I used to be guilty of trying to do too much all at once—this year I have become very intentional. I have a running list of things I would eventually like to incorporate but only implement a few—and only when ready. This year they are gamification and sketchnoting. #tlap
A7: After reading/listening (love audiobooks!), I write down:
1) From what I just read, what could impact my classroom?
2) What goal do I have based on that information?
3) What action can I take TODAY to start making it a reality?
Action is key.

A7 Most of my professional reads are in a visible spot in my classroom, so I can grab them on an as-needed basis. I also add major takeaways to lists in @google Keep

A7: I think I'm divergent so as I read I think 'where have I seen this', 'how is this true'? What implications would this have? How can I apply this and extend it tomorrow? If I come up blank I probably ignore it. If I'm quoting it over the next week I dig deeper. #tlap
A7: I tweet my favorite parts & connections using #BookSnaps and picture quotes. To ensure that I implement, I have chosen one or two actions I can do and recorded them in a spreadsheet. I blog about each @dbc_inc book & also blog when I've implemented. #DBCBookBlogs#tlap
EEEEEK! I can't wait to see this finished product! Thanks for including Be REAL in the mix of your faves. Makes my heart smile HUGE, Monica! #tlap#CreativelyProductive

A7: As to absorbing things, I keep a reader’s notebook/bullet journal and that has been instrumental in my processing info, keeping it with me, and really absorbing it into my practice. I have a post with more info here:

A7: Just do it! Force yourself to incorporate one thing from what you read into your classes. Start small, become consistent, and then build up from there

A7 anytime you can be a part of a book study is good. I also underline and take notes in the margins. Then I go back through the book and great a google doc over the key points that impacted my thinking, including ideas I want to try in a billeted column #tlap
A7 Chat with like minded people IRL or your Twitter PLN and then try new things, take risks, don't be afraid to put you thoughts into practice! #tlap#TakeARisk
A7: When it is possible, I try to apply strategies right away or relate them to something that is meaningful and in the forefront of my mind. #TLAP#CreativelyProducitve
A7 Studying and reading books with friends helps a lot. I loved exchanging ideas, things that stood out and making plans with my PLN as we read together. Learning is a community event, so we need to keep uplifting, cheering each other on and pushing ourselves. #tlap
A7: I take time to process my reading through taking notes, annotating, or #BookSnaps. I then choose one or two of my biggest takeaways tsk about them with others, SHARE SHARE SHARE to hold myself accountable and make plans to take action if needed. #tlap@TaraMartinEDU
A7 taking notes in my books, participating in chats and book studies. There is something quite special about sharing your excitement over books with others! #CreativelyProducitve#tlap
A7: I love pulling key quotes or mindsets and creating digital images on Canva which I then post on Instagram. It's a nice platform to look back on visually and see the thoughts that make a spark in my heart. #tlap#creativelyproductive

A7: I use good old-fashioned highlighting and underlining right in the book. When I find something truly noteworthy I often text it to a colleague. #creativelyproductive#tlap
A7: In the Talk to Me book I have been able to apply it to my personal and professional like. Focus more on listening, really listening. When people are upset, there is usually an underlying issue. Also working on responses. #tlap
