#formativechat starts NOW! We are very excited to have @sarahdateechur hosting the discussion today and can't wait to hear all your goals for the new school year!
#eduheroes
A1: One of my goals is to provide more targeted feed forward to staff through discussions and both formal and informal observations; I also want to support teachers with providing the same for their students #formativechat
A1: One of my major goals for the year is to transition from teaching students to teaching teachers. I want to empower teachers to empower students. #dominoeffect#formativechat
Major goal is to create more opportunities for staff to engage in PD. Going to use videos for tech, pineapple chart for in the room, and just encourage people to stop by. #Formativechat
A1 Be the best science educator and instructional coach that I can regardless of my educational setting . Move science learning forward for elementary students in any way open to me #formativechat
A1: I am still learning how to best navigate learner-centered engagement. I want to find the sweet spot between too much direct support and two little as I get to know my students. #formativechat
A1: Over the summer I revamped my classroom Boss Battles, and it is now time for implementation and tweaking as we go along. I also plan to do more/better with my school's social media presence #advancingogsd#formativechat
A1 As an Instruc coach/Rdg Spec., I want to attend all the department meetings in our bldg. I want to create an assessment for our developing readers and I want to offer more support to our math dept re: math literacy... You know, the usual! #formativechat
A1: My largest goal is to continue on my journey to use standards-based grading in a readers-writers workshop model in my HS ELA classes (I record my adventures at https://t.co/CwOXs0KtIC#not2yieldblog) #formativechat
A1: HS math content can be difficult to make relevant for Ss. Just because you can create a real-life situation that uses the concept, doesn’t mean it’s relevant to THEIR lives. Personal goal this year, make it more relevant to THEM personally!#formativechat
A1 - To be better than the year before. Be more efficient and effective in the classroom. Balance work and home life better. Keep having a #growthmindset. #formativechat
A1: One goal is to continue to constantly and consistently provide support and direction to our students and to our teachers as they continue to navigate tough waters. I feel that the expectations placed on teachers continue to evolve and become more complex. #formativechat
For me: to finish my alt cert program and get into my own classroom!
For my school: to keep up with the various boards and displays I created and continue to find new ways to engage Ss in conversations. Also taking into account special holidays (like Dot day!)😊
#formativechat
A1- My major goal is to create maker space in all 3 of our middle schools and push for students to become producers and not just consumers #formativechat
A1. Major goal is to keep providing professional learning opportunities for educators about the books they selected - voice and choice - during our #BookCampPD Fall Focus! #formativechat
#formativechat a1 Got a doozy of a big goal. To integrate what I've learnt in #TESOL and apply it to my practice in Deaf and Auslan education
#teacherlife
A1: My 2 big goals for this year: outside of my classroom -continue to work to build my #PLN and utilize it for support/learning; inside my classroom - working to integrate technology in the best way possible for my students! #Formativechat
A1 My major goal for this year is to reconfigure my classroom to a blended learning model so that Ss can have more choice in their learning. #formativechat
Kristen from PA. I teach 6th grade physical science. I apologize in advance if I double dip in the tummy dip. I know you always serve the best food and didn’t eat any dinner so I’m hungry!!! #formativechat
Hello Science Friends, as Instruc Coach/Rdg Specialist, I work with all teachers and have created some great lessons w/ our Sci Ts. Pls check out https://t.co/BBPnFy87Yu & https://t.co/jes7nvPyB3 & I've created a lesson on note-taking stations in Chemistry! Happy to support you!

My other goal is to make sure that every student in our building feels that he/she has a voice in his/her education and always has someone with whom he/she can speak about goals, questions, or just life in general. We teach KIDS; not just subjects! #formativechat#whitmanwtps
A1: One goal is to continue to constantly and consistently provide support and direction to our students and to our teachers as they continue to navigate tough waters. I feel that the expectations placed on teachers continue to evolve and become more complex. #formativechat
A1. Another goal is to encourage educators to write their first blog posting and use our website to post it. https://t.co/AAAObdC9nT Sometimes just beginning something new - getting your feet wet - is all it takes! #formativechat
I'm working to find that very same "sweet spot" with my new class of Ss - the beginning of the year is such a guessing game as we get to know them and what works best! #formativechat
A1: I want to focus on creative student voice and find the best ways to engage kids in telling stories connected to unit objectives. One of my first steps over the summer was to organize some resources here: https://t.co/Z6l2xWjdZ4#formativechat
A1 One of my major@goals is to have more colleagues join our digital transformation movement. I want more Ts to use the awesome tech tools available to us. #formativechat
A:1 One of my major goals this year is to help co-teaching teams improve their instruction in inclusion classrooms. Lessons should be meaningful, interesting, challenging, and purposeful. #formativechat Co-teachers need to know how important they are to our most fragile students.
A1. Another goal is to encourage educators to write their first blog posting and use our website to post it. https://t.co/AAAObdC9nT Sometimes just beginning something new - getting your feet wet - is all it takes! #formativechat
Ready for Q2 #formativechat? What are some challenges you have previously encountered in meeting your goals? How do you plan to overcome them this year?
A1. Another goal is to help get the word out about how educators can exchange ideas together about the books they are reading at #BookCampPD - so stickers are being given away and magnetic stickers have been ordered! #formativechat
A1: I want to focus on creative student voice and find the best ways to engage kids in telling stories connected to unit objectives. One of my first steps over the summer was to organize some resources here: https://t.co/Z6l2xWjdZ4#formativechat
A1a Use @Flipgrid to start an #AdmireEDU on our campus...give Ts, Ss, and Admins to let us know someone on campus or in edu that they admire and why...because we never really get around to sharing with other educators the impact they've had on us #formativechat
A2: One of the biggest challenges is sticking to a goal when other things get in the way; the day-to-day challenges and minutiae can tempt you to put a goal to the side...don't do it! I work to stay focused and hold myself accountable at the end of the year #formativechat
A1. Another goal is to encourage educators to write their first blog posting and use our website to post it. https://t.co/AAAObdC9nT Sometimes just beginning something new - getting your feet wet - is all it takes! #formativechat
A2: The biggest challenge I have is being relied on as the expert in my field and believing in myself enough that I don’t have to go to others for guidance/help. #formativechat
Major goal is to create more opportunities for staff to engage in PD. Going to use videos for tech, pineapple chart for in the room, and just encourage people to stop by. #Formativechat
Our admin just set up one. Have yet to post something myself, but I've already heard about some of the awesome things happening in my building ;) #formativechat
A2 Time. I want to support all of the Ts I work with. And that's not always easy. I need to find a better balance. That remains my challenge. #formativechat
Thanks! I hope my journey can be helpful for others. My goal is a weekly update (but I disappeared from it last April). I’m working to stay on track now—already two consecutive weekly posts this year! Happy to chat/DM about anything! #formativechat
#formativechat one of the challenges, was funding, for our STEM program, I overcame this by taking advice from a friend and applied/received some grants, but, of course constantly building our program, so try, try, try again for more grants. https://t.co/kbMIabmHeI
Ready for Q2 #formativechat? What are some challenges you have previously encountered in meeting your goals? How do you plan to overcome them this year?
A2: what goes on in my head is sometimes too complicated to implement. But jumping in with 2 feet and letting it be the way it turns out. Better than being afraid to try anything!! #formativechat
My major goal this year: Help create an environment that celebrates teachers, promotes the innovators, and gives voice to "not the usual suspects" in our faculty. It's time for everyone to have the light shined in their direction and reflected back out! #formativechat
A2: Always the lack of time, that just keeps moving. However the plan is to be more consciencious and find those opportunities to make time. #formativechat
Awesome, Steve! We bet your cooking up so great ways to find it with #formativetech ! We loved checking out your poster session at #ISTE18 ! #formativechat
Last year I studied for my generalist test with much success. I still have two more to take and need to get motivated. I have been distracted with school starting, my family and now my S engagement work at school. I need to schedule more time fore studying & do it!
#formativechat
Ready for Q2 #formativechat? What are some challenges you have previously encountered in meeting your goals? How do you plan to overcome them this year?
4 classroom visits - staff fearful of guests (hence pineapple chart), intimidated about others watching them...going to just drop in on my own. 4 tech - getting them to watch videos and try the tool. #Formativechat
Ready for Q2 #formativechat? What are some challenges you have previously encountered in meeting your goals? How do you plan to overcome them this year?

Ready for Q2 #formativechat? What are some challenges you have previously encountered in meeting your goals? How do you plan to overcome them this year?
Hi #formativechat! Heidi from MA joining. I teach 3rd. A1 My 1st goal is to stay cool this week- our first week was tough w/ a heat index of 105! Another goal is to get to know my Ss well, and tailor lessons to meet their interests more often to keep them excited about learning.
I believe that sustaining high quality instruction in our inclusion classrooms can be exhausting for teachers, especially when trying to meet all students' needs on a daily basis. We need to find routines that help teachers differentiate. #formativechat
A2. When surveying those in #BookCampPD 's #PLN about how the chat could better meet their needs many offered up an alternative day/time, so we changed it! Voice and choice! #FormativeChat
A2: Getting to know my students, how they think, and what helps them the most is a new challenge each year. It always takes us a while to build our learning community. Patience is a virtue. Don't get me wrong, it is a challenge I love and embrace. #formativechat
Ready for Q2 #formativechat? What are some challenges you have previously encountered in meeting your goals? How do you plan to overcome them this year?
A2: I think that with any type of change, there will be some resistance. In order to facilitate change and growth, it is important to model it, to encourage others , and to take chances oneself so that others will do the same when teaching their Ss! #whitmanwtps#formativechat
A2 Sometimes I take on too much and have trouble stayed focused on one goal. I hope to not stretch myself too thin this year. Focused and committed. #formativechat
A2) Access to technology! I am in a district that doesn't invest in technology...currently 1 Chromebook cart for 20 high school English Ts to share. This makes things challenging!
#formativechat
I wonder when Ts began to fear admin in their rooms? Why has this (IMO) become the norm for many? Maybe this is where movements such as #ObserveMe came from to alleviate? #formativechat
A1: My goal is to build relationships with the K-1 teachers I will be working with this year. I hope to provide support while helping them build their capacity as educators. #formativechat
I cannot count the number of times I wish I could push the pause button on the world around me, so I can catch up on everything I need and want to do! #formativechat
A2 - Mostly time and focus. Just need to continue to work on organization and prioritization. Balance is very important in all aspects. Keep surrounding myself with positivity. #formativechat
Ready for Q2 #formativechat? What are some challenges you have previously encountered in meeting your goals? How do you plan to overcome them this year?
A2 Lack of familiarity and support in my bldg might be an obstacle, but I have so many Twitter peeps to reach out to I feel confidence I have a good support system #formativechat
A communication tool, I am on several, there are teams, communicate with messages, use hashtags, some prefer over email and other forms of SM #formativechat
A2- Time and other projects getting in the way. I plan to overcome it by adding it to my calendar and asking for help from others. I need to realize I cant do everything by myself! :)
#formativechat
A5: This year have lots of new Admin changes. New Superintendent, 2 new APs at the High School @smhstitans, New AP at Middle School #sschat#formativechat
A1. Major goal is to keep providing professional learning opportunities for educators about the books they selected - voice and choice - during our #BookCampPD Fall Focus! #formativechat
A2 #formativechat Being in a box. Seen as the solo expert is a goal blocker. Leaving it to me alone. Sharing what is developing with students has to be a better way for all of us
#formativechat yes, getting to know all the individual needs of your students is a challenge, they are not adults yet, and need help in time management, organization, and learning https://t.co/kbMIabmHeI
Ready for Q2 #formativechat? What are some challenges you have previously encountered in meeting your goals? How do you plan to overcome them this year?
It really is such an awesome thing to experience that I think other professions totally miss out on! Right around the middle of December, each year, my students become my kids!
#formativechat
I don’t know. I always invite them in my room. I figured maybe if it was other staff coming in to see things, they would be less intimidated. #formativechat
A2 The attitude that tech is for this generation of Ts and that I already know my area, I don't need anything else...no matter how long we have been in education, we can always learn #growthmindset#formativechat
I think it is the fear of being judged and found lacking. I am luck I have a great admin and team that is looking for the great (if minute) moments to celebrate anytime they come in, instead of looking for the epic fails. #formativechat
This is so important, agree with you Steve, spending that time with Ss, learning about them and building a learning experience for them and w/them too #formativechat
A2 #formativechat Being in a box. Seen as the solo expert is a goal blocker. Leaving it to me alone. Sharing what is developing with students has to be a better way for all of us
A major obstacle to this goal is that I don't hold the stage or the microphone. I'd prefer to achieve this goal without being in conflict. But "going rogue" is rarely successful, regardless of intentions. Working with those in power..to cede power. Hmmm.... #formativechat
My major goal this year: Help create an environment that celebrates teachers, promotes the innovators, and gives voice to "not the usual suspects" in our faculty. It's time for everyone to have the light shined in their direction and reflected back out! #formativechat
Thank you! Amazing educators - 288 of them in fact! - voted for these books. There were many other stellar ones also on this list of 53. If you would like to view the results https://t.co/j8KekPlnVs#Formativechat
A1. Major goal is to keep providing professional learning opportunities for educators about the books they selected - voice and choice - during our #BookCampPD Fall Focus! #formativechat
You are on the right track now :) And @voxer is fantastic too, great way to ask questions, communicate any time, let me know if you have questions #formativechat
In reply to
@amynicolebettis, @_HannahRapp_, @voxer
Last question, #formativechat! Q3: What resources do you recommend for other educators to help manage their time and/or productivity when working toward their goals?
It is mind blowing to me that given the changes we have all encountered throughout our existence, we haven't learned to be a little bit better about it! It's not like anything is the same as it was 10 years ago...so why so resisitent to change?
#formativechat
A2: Break down walls and perceptions about math. Build intrinsic motivation by giving them a stake in their learning and appealing to their interests. This can be tough to do at times with state testing and other curriculum pressures. #formativechat
A3: I have challenged staff to a #ShiftThis challenge this year; we are sharing our shift goals through Padlet, and I'm hoping to move the group to Flipgrid sharing once everyone has responded; we can support & hold hold each other accountable this year #formativechat
A3: Google Keep is an awesome organizer! I e-mail all my resources I find on Twitter to my mail and then I add them to Google Keep so that I have all my goodies saved for reference later. #formativechat
Last question, #formativechat! Q3: What resources do you recommend for other educators to help manage their time and/or productivity when working toward their goals?
The more I work with my PLN, the more I assume everyone has one! I'll be talking in the staff room about this book or that book or this thing I saw or that thing I saw and everyone looks at me like what do you do when you go home...lol!
#formativechat
Last question, #formativechat! Q3: What resources do you recommend for other educators to help manage their time and/or productivity when working toward their goals?
A3: Definitely timers. It's easy to go down a rabbit hole and become too engrossed in something without realizing how much time has passed. There is also a cool tool called @Trello (https://t.co/E4FE1Bv0Js) that has helped me be more organized #formativechat
Honestly investing in a good planner (physical book or digital) and using it. I make to do lists on paper and on my phone to remind myself what needs to get done. It may not be "necessary", but it sure feels good checking off boxes. Set a schedule and STICK TO IT!
#formativechat
Last question, #formativechat! Q3: What resources do you recommend for other educators to help manage their time and/or productivity when working toward their goals?
We have a weekly chat and a website that extends the learning of the books we review/discuss/share ideas from. Here is the Calendar of Events https://t.co/bcIF6eE8r3 but the site has TONS of info - even @Wakelet 's from all of our chats. #FormativeChat
As an admin, I absolutely go in to find the ‘awesomeness’ in the daily teaching of my Ts. Giving honest feedback to Ts allows them to continue to have a growth mindset by focusing on improvement, but also being able to SMILE about what went great! #whitmanwtps#formativechat
I think it is the fear of being judged and found lacking. I am luck I have a great admin and team that is looking for the great (if minute) moments to celebrate anytime they come in, instead of looking for the epic fails. #formativechat
When I left my hometown in TN 12 yrs ago, there was a school that took on change & creativity...the other school struggles with it...the last time I visited, the school that struggled still had made few real changes to style, resources, and attitude...c'mon on man #formativechat
A2: I tend to get so focused on the work I'm doing that I can't think about anything else. That's when I struggle to maintain the relationships I've built. This year, I plan to keep track of when and how I reach out to every educator in my building. #formativechat
Honestly, making them feel safe in that box is so clutch...then slowly letting them know! You can't just red pill- blue pill them right from the get go!
#formativechat
Last question, #formativechat! Q3: What resources do you recommend for other educators to help manage their time and/or productivity when working toward their goals?
A3 I couldn’t survive without you Google calendar. I also have a paper calendar. I use Zoom for online meetings and I share widely on Twitter and Facebook #formativechat
Yes! I know the feeling. It does make one look as if they are constantly engaged and reading about their craft, but with a great PLN -- it's automatically locked in. Instant learning and sharing. #lovemyPLN#formativechat
The more I work with my PLN, the more I assume everyone has one! I'll be talking in the staff room about this book or that book or this thing I saw or that thing I saw and everyone looks at me like what do you do when you go home...lol!
#formativechat
A3 I love classroomscreen. It has many features that help you keep track of time and will be great as a tool for me to monitor quick checks like #goformative. #formativechat
Last question, #formativechat! Q3: What resources do you recommend for other educators to help manage their time and/or productivity when working toward their goals?
A3 My best resources are my colleagues. I love creating, designing, implementing, assessing & reflecting upon our work. I have presented with them & have co-authored articles with them. The expertise is always in the room...they are the people you work with #formativechat
Last question, #formativechat! Q3: What resources do you recommend for other educators to help manage their time and/or productivity when working toward their goals?
#formativechat a3 After reading Scrum, I like the principle of it but tbh still need to know how to best work in video and take snippets from that to keep archives or artefacts. Think it will be a way to move #deafed along with isolated practioners. #innovate#videoproduction
A3:The top resource I’d recommend is finding a great coach or thinking partner to walk alongside as you journey toward your goals - one who will support you, question you, and challenge you to adjust your thinking as needed! That’s been a game changer for me. #formativechat
There are different groups based on interests, book studies, and more. There is a big list of @voxer chats, lots to choose from and @sarahdateechur is an expert! #formativechat#edumatch
A3 - Using @goformative has helped me tremendously in the area in meeting many of my classroom goals. I use checklists and reminders a lot. Make sure you have away time (family, activities), be healthy, be positive, have a few laughs, have #GrowthMindset#formativechat
Last question, #formativechat! Q3: What resources do you recommend for other educators to help manage their time and/or productivity when working toward their goals?
A3: The best resource are the people around you! Seek, recruit, and build a PLN of people who you can learn from, will challenge you, and support each other. Find people you can have meaningful conversation with and then keep it going. #formativechat
https://t.co/4pn2dobXnp
If you like to keep everything organized and you like/liked post-it notes, you will appreciate this tool. It keeps everything I find and learn in one place. I hope you like it! Ss can use it too and you can collaborate with them and share. #formativechat
A3 In whatever way works write your goals down. I use a lot of post its and put important deadlines in my calendar. If you write it down and schedule time for it, it is more likely to become a reality #formativechat
A3 Tech tools like @GoogleForEdu Apps, and good old fashioned planners help...Found this cool @RhodiaNotebooks that has built in sections for notes and actions...cool 🕶 #formativechat
A3 I've started creating lists & separating the MUST dos from the Nice-to-dos or I-want-tos. Once I complete the must dos, then I can do some of the other items on my list. When you really think about it, some things you thought were must dos, aren't. #formativechat
A3: I highly recommend using Google Keep. It's linked to my calendar so I can set due dates and I have the app on my phone. When I update it using the app, it updates on my computer and vice versa. It's helped me stay organized in my new role. #formativechat
A3. I also follow Meggin McIntosh on LinkedIN She is an award-winning professor who now works with academics who prefer to be overjoyed instead of overwhelmed. Here is a link to one of her productivity tips https://t.co/FxXiXsxemN#formativechat
New blog post: Brand Your School. Not Yourself.
https://t.co/eLfjIiFWwX
---------
"As we post to social media...we have opportunities to brand our organizations, influence public perception, and serve our students, teachers, and staff…Let’s keep the focus where it belongs."
A3) My students are my best resource for keeping me productive. If I tell them I am thinking about doing something, they ask me everyday if I've done it! It's like the moment I tell them, things get real! I can't let them down!
#formativechat
A3 One of my favorite tools to help me stay organized is @msonenote. I have been using it in @MicrosoftTeams. It allows me to keep so many materials organized. With Teams newest features I can use so many other tools in one environment. #formativechat
Great tool for your students to use as a digital assignment book! They can bookmark it in their tools bar or download the app on their phone.
#formativechat
You are right. I,too, have been so busy that I did not keep up with my friendships as I should have. I need to get better at making time for friendships in my life. Relationships matter for adults as well! #formativechat Have an awesome year.
A2: I tend to get so focused on the work I'm doing that I can't think about anything else. That's when I struggle to maintain the relationships I've built. This year, I plan to keep track of when and how I reach out to every educator in my building. #formativechat
As we wrap up #formativechat , please put your hands together for @sarahdateechur ! Great Q's tonight - we loved hearing everyone's plans for the new year!
Thank you! I actually found an educator on Twitter who designed it for me after I shared with her what I wanted it to look like. @MrsBaumsClass ROCKS IT! #formativechat
In reply to
@riveraab, @LauraBee4882, @stickermule, @MrsBaumsClass
That means a lot. Thank you! As a forever optimist, there is always something great to see when my awesome Ts are working with our phenomenal Ss. If something isn’t right, I am not afraid to say so, but will work alongside the T to support! #whitmanwtps#formativechat
@LaurenAngelone I participated in the #formativechat and it was a great 1st ed chat to participate in. Everyone was welcoming and supportive of me and my answers to the questions. it was really cool to see that kind of collaboration online as opposed to in person
Definitely that there is a box. But it goes without saying thar I'd like to hand them the problem with 1 hand and a solution with the other hand. #formativechat a2 chat does continue
#deafed. Must check out Zoom too
Many years ago she would present in Reno, Nevada while I was a principal there. I was actually on the edge of my seat listening to her and taking notes as quickly as I could! @MegginMcIntosh is over the moon stellar!! #Formativechat
timers yes!!! I use Google slides primarily.... allows you to "insert video" without any hassle. And someone better than me has created videos of timers in the most random increments... #formativechat
@LaurenAngelone I participated in the #formativechat and it was a very good first ed chat to participate in. Everyone was very welcoming and supportive of my answers. It was really cool to see that kind of collab on an online format vs face to face collab!
I've been using it for everything. I label each note and make my list on each one. The labels I have are: Teachers, Curriculum, Links, Homework, Reading, and Errands.
Then I make my lists and check it on my phone and on my laptop. I highly recommend this! #formativechat
I completely agree @HerrAndersonWT . As I build relationships I am realizing that I can learn from the teachers just as much as they can learn from me! #formativechat
A2 Not prioritizing well. The book “Made to Stick” isn’t about this, but the story about Southwest Airlines in that book changed my life in terms of having focus on the goal. #formativechat
Have another AWESOME school year 2018-2019. Let's make classrooms meaningful, purposeful, challenging, and energizing for each and every student. We can do this! #formativechat This should be every teacher's goal. Teachers ROCK!
My goal for the year - supporting Ts to take on the conceptual shifts of NGSS. We are in year 2 of implementation, so moving from the what to the how. #formativechat
A1: My goal for the year - supporting Ts to take on the conceptual shifts of NGSS. We are in year 2 of implementation, so moving from the what to the how. #formativechat
A2: ES teachers teach everything, so time to construct understanding and go deep is rare. How to support Ts when they are pulled in a million directions? #formativechat
When I read @E_Sheninger sharing a tweet about educators becoming the storyteller-in-chief, I thought this was the perfect phrase and quickly created a graphic so I could retweet it over and over. #FormativeChat#TLAP
