Tonight on #MTedchat we're going to engage in a design sprint! Be sure to check out examples of menus, choice boards, and playlists before we begin. We'll be asking you to share your brainstorm at the end of the chat! See you at 8 PM MT!!!
Q1: Let’s start planning! At the end of the chat, we’ll ask you to take a picture or provide a link to your brainstorm! Which one do you want to create: a menu, choice board, or playlist? What topic will you create it on? #MTedchat

Here's Q1 again in case you missed it! Q1: Let’s start planning! At the end of the chat, we’ll ask you to take a picture or provide a link to your brainstorm! Which one do you want to create: a menu, choice board, or playlist? What topic will you create it on? #MTedchat

A2: My focus will be on CER, so something along the lines of Students will apply a CER framework to explain observable and natural phenomena. #MTedchat
Q3: How will you know if students have mastered the objective or standard? In what ways will you assess your students using the menu, choice board, or playlist? #MTedchat
A3: I have some CER rubrics that I can use, but it would be nice to have them self-assess or do a peer review using the rubrics. I could put the rubric in the playlist increase accessibility and visibility. I'd use the rubric to assess a paragraph of writing using CER #MTedchat
I really like this idea. I could do three different sections: (1) claims, (2) evidence, (3) reasoning. They could build understanding through various activities and then put them together at the end. I like that idea! #MTedchat
Q4: Besides content, what skills will you be assessing? List them out! How will you know students have built skills towards mastering these skills? #MTedchat
A4: I just made a list: Reflection, Critical thinking (seek/use information & data to strengthen argument), evaluation, problem solving (gathers relevant info), and communication (applies skills a variety of contexts). #MTedchat

Hi, Travis! We're doing it a little bit different tonight. We picked playlist, menu, or choice board. Now we're brainstorming what it could look like for a topic. #MTedchat
GOOD Questions! Maybe call upon "small moment" narrative writing strategies from my Lucy Calkin's writing workshop days? Otherwise I will try to have them connect to current topics from their classroom #MTedchat
Q5: Now, let’s write about one activity that aligns with our objective, assessment, and one of the skills we want to assess. Share one idea you have here! #MTedchat
It develops a "small moment" story focusing on a more detailed moment rather than trying to tell and epic tale with twists and turns. Might be about losing a tooth or getting ice cream w/ a friend. Simple moments with lots of details #MTedchat
A5: Focusing on the Claims (C) section of CER --- I could have students explore articles, videos, websites on a specific topic, generate a list of relevant claims presented, then write a claim with peer review. The iterated claim could be used in the final CER paragraph #MTedchat
Exactly! And how does a zoom in change the mood of the story? How does the audience feel when we zoom out or look down from above? So much room for rich discussion. #MTedchat
Q6a: Personalization is a great way to increase student ownership over learning. Think of a way you can personalize your menu, choice board, or playlist for your students. Share your ideas! #MTedchat
Check out these HyperDoc templates @TsGiveTshttps://t.co/ndCOxSNjeY They’re great for designing a menu, choice board, or even a playlist for your classroom #MTedchat
A6: For personalization, I'm thinking students could either choose the topic and resources they use for their CER OR I could allow them to choose the way they show their CER. <----this could get creative! #MTedchat
