Join SLPs and Special Educators to collaborate, share ideas and discuss how we leverage the use of Ed Tech with our challenged learners, the successes and challenges we meet in the process and how we might envision a future where PLNs and SIGs can support educators in providing ALL learners with the 21st century skills needed to lead the future.

@ZajacSLP chiming in from Norton MA! Excited to Co-moderate with my @masscue SlpSpedSIG partner in crime @MrsMcGarryNMS!

Q1: We all know there is a lot going on in our schools this busy time of year. What are some ways we can help keep our Ss (and us!) focused during this season of distractions? #SlpSpedChat
A1: to keep Ss focused its important to engage them - even in the small things we do. Kind words, smiles, maybe even hiding an elf! Keeping our spark - even if we're tired. #SlpSpedChat
A1: I try to build in breaks. Ts are loading on the tests and projects. My kiddos get overwhelmed. Building in a time out actually increases our focus and productivity. #SlpSpedChat
Keeping our Ss engaged is the keep always but ESPECIALLY as the holidays approach and they may be more likely to become distracted! Happy times = Happy Ss! #SlpSpedChat

The resource of time is definitely a key element to flex as we approach the holidays! Thank you @MrsMcGarryNMS for the reminder that it is okay and even preferred to pump the breaks and take a breath in the month of December! #SlpSpedChat

A1: It's always important for me to remember (as a parent) that it's stressful at this time for kids too. SO MUCH activity going on! Being Mindful and present. So important.

So true. Recharge. Reflect. Rework. Redesign the approach. It’s all so important to the process of what we do and what we hope to achieve. #SlpSpedChat

Q2: Students struggle with unexpected schedule changes. How do you help them to get a heads up so they can wrap their heads around the hoopla without overwhelming them? #SlpSpedChat
A2: Previewing schedule changes is key ... no surprises. Tell them about movies, assemblies, what to expect, etc. And give them permission to enjoy the fun and be present in the hoopla!! #SlpSpedChat
Tell them about IT ALL in a way that works for them. Some like written stories. Some a timeline. Some a video.
Communication ahead of time is key. It primes for flexible thinking which is the key to adaptability & enjoyment of all the hoopla! #SlpSpedChat

Hi! Sorry for the late arrival. @JSkowronekMA from Norton High. I will stay stress free by having reasonable expectations of myself and of others. #SlpSpedChat
A2 Having a relationship with a student first you can gently share there is a schedule change. Tell the student as early as possible and provide as many reminders as possible prior to the change. #SlpSpedChat
A1. I think a good way to keep the kids focused is to make everything meaningful - especially homework. Kids are just as stressed / excited about this time of year as we are. Less busy work means more time for them and for us. #SlpSpedChat
A1 Staying focused is difficult this time of year and kids are experiencing all sorts of emotions. It is important to keep them engaged, providing breaks, and safe spaces helps to reduce some of the stress and distractions. #SlpSpedChat
