Hey #4thchat! How are you tonight? Nancy from MA chiming in...Love this topic. Perhaps we will get @CurranCentral or @thelivbits to stop by & share their ideas! :)
Had a training to prepare to train the rest of my district. Dance practice for our dance festival. I’m working on some green screen stuff for our Utah program. Waiting for an article to be reviewed so I can publish it. You know, a normal Monday. #4thchat

Q1: Less teacher talk and more student-centered learning makes for a happy, healthy, and productive learning environment. In what ways do you include student voice and student choice in your curriculum? #4thchat#stuvoice
A1: I liked giving choice especially when it came to projects & ways to share what students knew. Online posters, videos, comics, narratives, scripts etc. #4thchat
A1 Creating options for projects- students come up with the ideas and then they can choose the final product. Seating arrangement, class jobs, math word problems, read alouds. #4thchat
Here I am #4thchat!!!! I'm Liv from Durham, NH!!! I love books, sharks, talking, and eat pop tarts!!!! 😬 I just got home from ballet so I can't stay long.
Allow students to show what they have learned in ways they are comfortable with. Let them do some teaching and mentoring their peers. Listen to what they have to say. My What Students Want - #StuVoice page https://t.co/nUQy17sMFL#4thchat
A2 using equity sticks so I am not calling on the same kid. Group roles so the same students are not always the presenter. Meeting in small groups make sure that I hear from every student. #4thchat
Hey Liv!!! Thanks for stopping by! You are one busy girl! (I see you are heading to AK!). What would you want teachers to know....the #1 thing about #stuvoice? #4thchat
A2: Recently using programs like @PearDeck and @nearpod which lets EVERY voice be heard (anonymously) to classmates! But they answer nonetheless! #4thchat#stuvoice
Important to change up the roles. We try to get students presenting as much as possible (even show & tell type things) so they have experience being in front of classmates. Things that didn't happen when I was a kid. #4thchat
That is so impressive to me. What amazing shape you must be in. My daughter's friend is a ballerina, and I can't believe what athleticism it takes! #4thchat
A1: Ss research new science phenomena and share with the class. Also, inquiry for research. Ss think about what they still want to know about our social studies curriculum, research it, and share. Morning meeting and jigsaws, too. #4thchat
OK, I would say to Ts, please know #stuvoice isn't a choice, it's a right. It's my learning, and I should be able to direct it. Being connected MATTERS A LOT! You will see from an earlier tweet how I network and get help to grow my passions! #StuVoice is #Myvoice#4thchat
Q4: Working together is a good reminder that we are all smarter when we all contribute. How often do your students get to collaborate? #4thchat#stuvoice
How did you become so connected @TheLiveBits I think it does matter a lot...we can learn so much from others. What are some ways you share your passions in school? #4thchat#stuvoice

I became connected b/c I wanted a bigger audience for my #LivBIt work! I posted one #LivBit and got sooooo much incredible feedback!!! I just knew I wanted to be more connected and share and learn more!!!! At first my mum @cyndisueboo helped me learn about the platforms. #4thchat

@ncarroll24, @TheLiveBits, @cyndisueboo
A4: I would say that my students get to collaborate about 75% of the teaching time. Still working on how that looks/works in a productive matter but they love getting to work together. #4thchat

My son’s baseball games were the same. Luckily, my husband likes to drive, so I could Tweet from the car! Thing are great-9 days of school left with lots to do! #4thchat
A4 Everyday!! Collaborate on solving math problems, reading lessons, science activities. They are always talking and working with others!! Big projects, little projects. All the time!!! #4thchat
A2: One strategy I use to enhance student voice is think-pair-share. Also, Ss are assigned a share day for morning meeting, so they know when to expect it and they can come prepared. #4thchat
Q6: Student-led conferences empower students by allowing them to take responsibility for their own education. Does your school have these? #4thchat#stuvoice
Hey Scott!!!! Yay - so glad to see you here! Yes - try to have students collaborate. It helps to work on skills that help students work together too. #4thchat

Q6: Student-led conferences empower students by allowing them to take responsibility for their own education. Does your school have these? #4thchat#stuvoice
A6: We did student led by using #Seesaw and its great folders and tags. Kids tagged “blue ribbon work” to narrow down discussions. Parent’s loved it! #4thchat
Hey Scott - all is good. Have a new role this year: Digital Learning Coach. Certainly get to see how different teachers approach #stuvoice in this role. #4thchat
A3: Not as often as i should probably let let. This is something I am definetly going to work on for next years S's and give my current S's more choice during the last couple of weeks left. #4thchat
A3: Ss probably get to vote a few times a week. I do more individual choice than group voting, but we vote on morning meeting activities often. I'm going to try to have them vote more often on different things, though. Good idea! #4thchat
A6: To my knowledge this is only done in IEP meetings in our district. Even with those, I was initially uncomfortable as a parent letting my child lead IEP, but it turned out to be the right thing! All kids should be granted these privileges, not just SpEd. imo #4thchat
I have had students share information with parents. The times I had Ss attend & be a part of conferences, I thought it was so beneficial. Even when conversations were tough. Ss should hear things from us. #4thchat
Q6: Student-led conferences empower students by allowing them to take responsibility for their own education. Does your school have these? #4thchat#stuvoice
Great ?! I’m not good at this at all, but I at least I have Ss self-assess their own contributions & those of their group members. Next year I want 2 make sure each group member has a specific task each time the group meets and that they keep track of what they’re doing. #4thchat
A:7 Connecting Ss with authors, illustrators, publishers, professionals in areas of interest are a great way to offer #stuvoice#choice in authentic ways. It allows them to connect, be advocates and potentially impact change. #4thchat
A7 My Ss love sharing their projects and tagging those who share the same passions. @KyleHamstra does a great job of adding standards to posts on @Twitter something I want to do in the future. Ss can run the class account on social media!! #4thchat
#4thchat other things I'd want Ts to know about #stuvoice: It has to be #authentic. The best way to engage kids is to let them follow their passions. The more kids create, the more they understand their own story. If they post online about it, they learn about stuvoice and digcit
A3 I try not to do voting, if possible but instead try to reach decisions by consensus. I always tell them we can try something and if it doesn’t work, we can reevaluate. #4thchat
I know what you mean - but it can be frustrating for Ss when their classmates aren't pulling their fair share. Almost need a way to share that info with Ts. #4thchat

Q6: Student-led conferences empower students by allowing them to take responsibility for their own education. Does your school have these? #4thchat#stuvoice
Authenticity is KEY! Learning has to be relevant - not just for kids but for all of us! Good point about DigCit. It's important for kids to practice that everyday. #4thchat#stuvoice
A6: Some of the Ts in our school just started student-led conferences this year and really liked it. I invited Ss to the conference, but I did not try to do it as "student led" yet. #4thchat
A7: I ended up grabbing a bunch of students that had an interest in vocal recording and music from our school, and used them on several recording projects. Now they are rockstar Divas but have a decided passion for performance and studio recording and mixing. #4thchat
A8: That is one of the best things you can do for your students: #geniushour! Here's a way for Ss to really explore their passions, their interests, their dreams..all in school! So many learning opportunities. Helping a class tomorrow with their research! :) #4thchat#stuvoice
A8: yes my students participate in passion project or genius hour. These types of projects allow for #stuvoice by giving them something that they really want to work on and learn about. #4thchat
I think this is a step in the right direction. Having students involved in the conference is very important. There are all different ways to approach this. #4thchat
A7: Kids can lead the teaching about social media platforms if you let them. You will also be considered SUPER cool if you start using the ones that matter to us. I use Twitter but it's not that cool to my friends. Hehehehehe! #4thchat#KidsCanTeachUs
A7: @Seesaw is an AWESOME way to practice social media posting. It kind of mimics what you do here. My little sister is in kindergarten and she's a WIZZ on @Seesaw!!! #4thchat
No everything I do is a home project. We mostly use tech at school for testing. I would LOVE it if we used tech to create more. But we don't. That's why we started #LivBits too!!!! I wanted MORE time to create with tech on projects that mattered to ME!!!! #4thchat
In my school visits, I teach about writing a good blog!!!! Then LOADS of kids start blogging and sharing with me!!!! I feel soooo proud they try it!!!! It's not for every kid, but it's for some kids!!!! #4thchat
