Hey #NoVAedchat! I'm Margaret and I love snow days because it's a cozy time to read and hang out on the couch! I didn't go outside in the snow at all on Monday!
Hi! I’m Eileen and I’m a special education teacher @HolmesMS_FCPS I love the snow!! (I love it even if we don’t get snow days - but I certainly won’t turn those down) #NoVAedChat
A1 A combination of reflection, recommendations from colleagues who know my goals, and observing others Ts who have skills that I would like to develop. #NoVAedChat
A1 - I believe it depends on what objectives you've set out to accomplish for yourself. In many instances, your conversations with those who are in a place you are looking to go will help you to determine the path of learning. #novaedchat
A1 I definitely take on more than I should reasonably take on. I want to know lots of things. I see what school/division goals are, talk and listen and see what my PLN is talking about, listen to what teachers I work with are interested in! #NoVAedchat
I'm always scared of taking too much on. I know I have a limit and I know that I won't really learn & integrate new stuff/changes if I don't have serious time for it. #NoVAedChat
A1: Twitter, blogs, conversations and problems that I encounter (and want to find solutions to) in my classroom, building and school system are what help me identify what I want to improve in my teaching practice. #NoVAedchat
A2: Finding the right fit- PD that fits where you are at and is not too slow or too overwhelming. Also, making time in a busy schedule for PD #NoVAedchat
One of my favorite parts of podcasts - generally no extended commercials. Netflix, Pandora, any other streaming service along with the DVR have changed my life for the better. The one exception is SuperBowl. Back the topics at hand though. #novaedchat

A2. A difference in what the end result should look like. Sitting too long. Presenting material to ts in the exact way that is frowned upon for Ss ( long lectures, no movement, non-auditory etc) #NoVAedchat
A2 - I have found it difficult in some instances to find courses that meet all of the needs I want. It usually takes a combination of courses to complete ever task, skills, etc. I'm looking for. There is no one size fits all course out there IMO. #novaedchat
YES!! This is so important. We are asked to take risks and learn together.... but don't build the trust or group values. How would you fix this? I know I want choice of who I work with #NoVAedchat
A2b Also, from my SpEd perspective, it can be difficult to find trainings that apply directly to my classroom. It can be a lot of work to figure out the connections. #NoVAedchat
A3 I talk about my learning. I always have!!! Other SBTS and teachers are great in-person connections. I love my twitter buddies who push my thinking #NoVAedchat
A3 Everyone! I love learning (if I could afford it, I’d be in school forever) - I often connect with people who have similar passions, starting with conversations that turn into brainstorming for units and lessons. #NoVaedchat
Attending EdCamp sessions are great experiences to connect with individuals who may be exploring or learning. Weekly chats like this along with meeting with colleagues are also great for personal development. #novaedchat
Q3: Right now, I have been doing most of my learning on my own using #podcasts or #edtechbooks. I took a class this fall, connecting with some of my colleagues about #ThinkingRoutines Soon, I will be participating in some ed tech book studies to learn with and from. #NoVAedchat
A2: I think that cost can be a factor. I want to go to lots of conferences but they are expensive! I also think that when PD lacks choice and isn’t something you can use in your own way it often ends up discarded when the meetings ends #NoVAedchat
A3: I learn from my Twitter PLN, my colleagues, especially my blog co-collaborator @libraryms and in the past three years my teaching has been profoundly impacted by being a part of @fcpssecliteracy#NoVAedchat
A4 Don’t be afraid to say that you want to learn. I used to feel embarrassed saying I wanted to learn more when speaking to colleagues because the assumption that I perceived from my environment is that I should know everything #NoVaedchat
A4: #1 Join Twitter and find your #PLN. #2 Find some podcasts to listen to and learn from #3 Realize that not all learning has to happen in a staff meeting or a classroom with others #NoVAedchat
A4. Step out of your comfort zone. Keep an open mind. Think twice if they don’t have water and a modicum of snacks. It is a barometer , for me , of the value placed on the audience. It’s usually accurate. #NoVAedchat
A4 You need to advocate for your needs - tell people what interests you and where you want to grow. Ask people around you for ideas and advice. And of course, invite them to join us here 😉 #NoVAedchat
A4 - Be willing to step out and see what you can find for yourself. Today's learning has been transformed by social media, apps and other resources. There is no excuse for an individual not to find something new. I know some remembers #microfiche! #novaedchat
A4: My advice would be Twitter is a game changer AND you don’t have to read all the books and take all the classes - articles, blogs will get you moving in new directions. Try new things, keep what works, discard what doesn’t. #NoVAedchat
Hey all, Ryan here. I don’t get to see these very often as I am often with my son, now 8 months old. I try to tackle PLNs through here when I can #novaedchat
A2: being a technology specialist: challenges with professional learning: sometimes my personal interests or needs for PD don’t match with the focus on my school building at the time. AND I feel isolated sometimes being the only one of “ME” in my building #NoVAedChat
I think this is a great point, Corey...You don't (and likely can't) read every book. There's so much pressure to be reading all of these books, but we need to give ourselves permission to prioritize. #NoVAedChat
YESSSS!! I think a lot of us felt that way when we started. AND this shift in perspective changes everything. This quote is so important to me I made it in my twitter header! #NoVAedchat
A4 Learn/interact from others who don’t look like you or see the world like you. I sat in a cultural PD and felt that it didn’t apply to me at a because it was very westernized. #NoVaedchat
A3: I love learning with my teammates and other colleagues. I find it awesome when we can get excited about what we are doing with/ for kids. I also love that we can have those conversations about specific kids. #NoVAedchat
A5: I love my learning on demand #podcasts but I also like getting to learn and share with others- #EdCampNoVa was great for that and I am so excited about learning with others at #ISTE19. When we share and listen, we all learn and improve! #NoVAedchat
A5 While time consuming, I really like in person PD. I get so much more from interacting with other learners. I’m really trying with these Twitter chats, but I still feel that I get the most from a really good face to face opportunity. #NoVaedchat
I would like to participate in technology learning opportunities. I want to bring new technology ideas to share with teachers and students at my school. I would love more face to face tech share learning sessions. 😊 #NoVAedchat
A5: face to face: but self directed. I have really enjoyed consistent face to face time i have scheduled with one or two colleagues exploring a common interest and “trying it out” (a new tech tool or resources) to get a better understand and supporting each other. #NoVAedChat
Q4: I would say, “find your passion”. You can’t learn everything ( especially not all at once) but you can bring a single passion to your classroom or to your building. #NoVAedchat
A5: I would like to participate in technology learning opportunities. I want to bring new technology ideas to share with teachers and students at my school. I would love more face to face tech share learning sessions. 😊 #NoVAedChat
I know some schools have adopted a cohort model - a group of teachers picks a PD topic and explores it together for the academic year. I really hope we can bring something like this to my school. Voice and Choice isn’t just for students. #NoVAedchat
A5 - Flexible learning works best for me. I need exploration, time to play, time to reflect and time for questions. However all of these items do not have to fit into a designated period of time. Redesigning PD is a must. #novaedchat
A5 I love in person but I also enjoy being able to dive into something at my own pace and on my own time. I wish there were more opps for teachers from different counties to meet in person #NoVaedchat
When we wanted to learn new things, a group of SBTS and I started our own groups. We used to call them Special Interest Groups - it pushed me to learn so much more!! #NoVaedchat
A5: I have really enjoyed the Edcamps that we have done in our building. We choice the topics that we are interested in. We visit other classrooms to observe students and practices in action then have time to debrief and ask questions right after. #NoVAedchat
Local #edcamp sessions are great opportunities to connect. I know some of these events are somewhat spread out but to conversations are generally very deep and establishing the connections are deeper. #novaedchat
A6: continue making the best of my situation and learn from my building teacher colleagues to support the kiddos I teach and continue exploring areas of interest in the field of tech/STEAM in primary grades:x #NoVAedChat
