An informal learning community for educators worldwide. Our passion for learning and connected learning experiences help us to improve our teaching practices. #txeduchat features guest moderators every week.
Welcome to #txeduchat! This evening we've got guest moderator @khechara Bradford leading our discussion of Personalized Learning. Introduce yourselves and we'll be starting in just a moment. #txeduchat
A1. I think personalized learning connects all the major themes we know are beneficial for students... relevance, choice, differentiation & engagement flows. #TXEduChat
Q2. Digital tools are always fun to increase student voice. Nothing works better than talking to students... asking questions, requesting feedback and most important, listening! #TXEduChat
A1: #PersonalizedPD makes learning relevant and personal...those two aspects exponentially increase the possibility that the learning will be applied #txeduchat
A2 I love to engage kids in convos outside of class to see what they like/dislike, especially at lunch. Also, using GoogleForms to ask students what they liked, disliked, and would change about an assignment also helps. #txeduchat
A2. Ss will share their voice when learning is connected to them in some way...not just assigned. Make the personal connection and they will unleash their thinking. #txeduchat
A2: Ss voice is most often elicited for me through discussion and action to meet their needs...really frustrating when we “listen” but don’t have any action for their needs #txeduchat
A3: I want to ensure that Ss are comfortable taking the learning in their own hands (do they feel supported and have the tools) and have I allotted enough time that they don’t feel rushed. #txeduchat
A1. In trying to educate a global citizen which every child is we must look at all avenues that lead to distinct learning needs, a Sscultural background, as well as individuate learning environments that meet every Ss needs. #TXEduChat

A4. When students are empowered the learning is authentic, meaningful and culturally relevant. Student voice is a driver for school practices and students have a sense of ownership!#TXEduChat
A5: Of course! My intro to personalized learning was in our public #montessori ...back then it was all the original materials but we moved ea child at their own pace #txeduchat
A4 Ts releasing control to Ss. Ss determining how they go about learning...what resources/tools they need, how to group themselves, how to split up the work, etc. #txeduchat

A5 Sure thing! Personalized learning does not focus on the tech...it focuses on the learning and how the Ss go about that task. Ss my find analog ways throughout their learning. Tech is brought in if/when Ss say so. #txeduchat
It's awesome that we as educators get to peel away that package (with the tech) so Ss can begin with the learning...then bring in what they may need #txeduchat
A6. There’s nothing like the buzz you hear in a class where collaboration is well planned. The teacher becomes a facilitator and the learners take the lead... there’s definitely a connection between collaboration & engagement. #TXEduChat
A5. #TXEduchat Yes, however much more thought and creative planning will have to be put in place. Systematic planning in PDs to map out BPs in other arenas such as working with community leaders, businesses and city officials will bring in results for all.
A6 Because those three things are all about the Ss. Ss love to talk so we connect learning to them so they can chat about it. Ss chatting about learning is engaging. Engagement leads to deeper thinking which is empowering! #txeduchat
A6: Empowering students to take ownership of their learning is SO important. It really gives them a sense of accomplishment and builds confidence. Incorporating these qualities into their mindset is critical for success. #txeduchat
A7: Provide students the opportunity to work in groups. give a subject-relevant scenario and let them collaborate to find solutions. Step back and facilitate. #txeduchat
A7. Pick. One. Thing. Pick one thing to let control of. Choose that one bit of learning that is connected to the students and let them take the wheel. Be the guide and see where they take it. You will be amazed at their perspectives and learning paths. #txeduchat

Become a learning facilitator rather than being the only source Ss learn from. This will encourage student exploration, creation, and critical thinking. Point them towards the learning and help them grow #txeduchat
A8 As a Digital Learning Specialist, I serve Ts and Ss. I need to offer choice/voice in PD to my Ts and help Ts plan for personalized learning opportunities for their Ss. #txeduchat

I help Ts, and they respond to results. The more examples of success you can share with them the more likely they will be to make a change for their Ss #txeduchat
A7. Class should be student led. The T as Facilitator gives the daily challenge, the Ss as collaborators and PSs must find a solution that works for everyone in their group. They must then be able to teach, justify, and persuade their audience why they are correct. #TXEduchat
