-
I'm in London but I'd rather be home on which is where I grew up & my heart is
-
-
It is really popping out green now! Spring is such an exciting time!
-
-
I saw that on your profile!! :) Scotland is so beautiful for sure!
-
-
It is I was very lucky to spend the 1st 18 years of my life there
-
yes I love Spring but right now it's blowing a hoolie outside! Love that I can buy lots of plants though!
-
So tonight's article is a bit dense, but idea is relationship between auditory processing/reading https://t.co/nEN4nOC4d7
-
I agree, I love spring time!
-
oooo love this picture so beautiful!
-
It's the really really sad but on Marley and me- quick distract me!!
-
Not to kill this great mood of babies and bluebells!!! :)
-
lol blowing a hoolie :) that'll blow your petals off!
-
That is just soooo gorgeous!!
-
thank you!! We had a little tea party in the woods yesterday- love it!
-
So let's maybe start talking about how to support children's ability to distinguish sounds
-
-
haha I have never watched it but I do love a good cry at films sometimes!
-
-
haha that came out wrong! I much prefer actually talking about bluebells but was trying to bridge!! haaa :)
-
aww that's lovely I would love to do that!
-
what's everyone doing?! What did I miss while trying to be responsible?! :) MOvies?
-
With songs and stories we would discuss the sounds to help children understand them
-
Or blowing a hoolie?! That sounds kind of like it could be an interesting thing! :)
-
also still alice great film but lots of tears! Just don't go watching one born every minute you'll freak!
-
I think songs and music are THE most underrated and essential pieces of developing reading in Young Children
-
a tea party in the woods! Maybe lets do a virtual tea party next week!
-
oh watching Marley and Me movie+ crying?! haha I can't watch anything anymore! And not preggo!
-
-
Love the virtual tea party idea!
-
I've always noticed UK focus on story telling- much more than in US! Great to develop auditory senses and comprehension
-
Another way to help children understand sounds is to demonstrate good language skills when speaking to them 1/2
-
I sometimes fail at this as I get lazy and drop my t's from words it's a very bad habit! 2/2
-
I think the environment is a good starting point seen lots of discussions about music in classrooms
-
Speaking and listening, repeating back, asking clarifying questions-key components of reading. Glad to see more research on this
-
Sorry I'm late - just been to fab Communication Friendly Spaces course. What are we discussing tonight
-
Yes! Especially here in America as tendency to strip away music, recess and fun for more rote "practice"
-
Hello! Sounds great! We are talking auditory processing and relationship to reading
-
yes good modelling is vital! I know what you mean about the 't's!!!
-
-
I love story telling there's so much children can get from it love when they are so excited to see what's next
-
How perfect for the discussion!
-
What was the course about? Making spaces to enhance communication?
-
is fantastic for this! Children learn texts so they internalise the language/pattern/structure!
-
RT is fantastic for this! Children learn texts so they internalise language/pattern/structure!
-
Yes!! Tell us some of what was discussed! Like how to enrich areas to create more dialogue
-
What is the CFS approach? Not familiar
-
ie I've always had a "Peacemaking" area for when arguments arise. Children go there to work out and discuss problem w puppets
-
Communciation friendly Spaces
-
Yes links too with Reggio - environment the 3rd teacher. Smaller spaces within classroom to encourage S&L
-
Communication Friendly Spaces
-
Ahhh! haha Always makes perfect sense!
-
I used it in a setting with high numbers of EAL children and it made a huge difference
-
So the article was citing that many children only hear the "--at" vs the "bat" or the "cat" How can we encourage growth there?
-
So not clear how these centers differ from regular play/arts/blocks/etc centers?
-
Are you adding specific talking points to them?
-
I made some great little nooks
-
Talked about background noise and how blocking out is a learned behaviour I sympathise - some chn can't focus/learn with it 1/2
-
-
Hmm. How about short poems with "--at" rhymes, particularly ones which are nonsense (funny) if heard incorrectly?
-
Yes! Great! Also the rhyming songs and games! And slowing down our speech! Sometimes I am a mile a minute! :)
-
Really important for chn to be able to listen/hear to learn especially when learning and distinguishing between sounds
-
So lets switch gears a bit and focus on importance and role of music in your setting. How incorporated?
-
RT Really important for chn to be able to listen/hear especially when distinguishing between sounds
-
Also the dynamic verbal exchanges of play - try to write down what they are saying and you can't keep up!
-
we play lots of different music at lunch times as a talking point. We sing all the time and do dancing games
-
In terms of music I mostly use chant and keeping a beat- clapping, following and building on patterns
-
we 'singstructions' (sing instructions) and teach music following also play sound/rhyme games
-
those "old school" singing and clapping games are really priceless!! They never get old! They LOVE! Fills deep need
-
I sing instructions all the time!! Works like a charm!?! Amazing!
-
I currently many part time and we sing all the time and make up rhyming silliness as we go
-
the singing also helps keep me calm and reduces any frustration I might have
-
I also use my tongue to "click" "clack" and have them repeat back. builds up the muscles
-
it's true I remember reading about different cultures clapping games so it's universal a great game for everyone
-
Primal to learning and especially reading I'm sure! I find reading in unison a similar key!
-
Singing to gather, to give instructions, to calm and focus, to enjoy and to learn!
-
though I do that with partners and my class is a bit older- 5 and 6 year olds
-
I am always telling teaching students importance of singing. They don't care if you sing in tune, they just want you to sing!
-
It's amazing how they instantly just start doing it- humming along- works like a CHARM really!
-
Sometimes a bit Pavlov's dog - we start singing a song and 38 little auomatons tidy/gather/sit and listen/line up!
-
hahaaha!!! Yes!!! I know exactly what you mean!! :) Hidden trade secret!! :)
-
Ok! So this was great tonight! Thanks to all for coming out tonight and sharing bluebells! And we ended singing!! :)
-
Am going to slip out a minute or two early! Have some errands to run tonight! Goodnight to all!! Thanks again!
-
Thanks always nice to catch up with everyone πhave a good week!
