#aussieED was founded on the belief that all teachers, and students, should have unlimited access to Professional Development, on their own terms, to improve their teaching, their schools and change the lives of the students they encounter. Since then, we have embarked on a mission to reach educators, not only in Australia but, all around the globe. We want to smash the barriers that prevent teachers from easily connecting and learning with each other. To that end, we have developed a regular Ed-chat each Sunday on twitter at #aussieED. The chat allows all teachers, leaders, administrators and all those connected with education to meet on an unbiased platform and discuss the real issues that effect what happens in classrooms everywhere. Our chats are authentic because we are real teachers walking the same walk that so many do everyday.
Q6 Teachers should not get caught up too much with the data. Schools have specialist staff to interpret what the data is saying & advise on intervention. Data must be collected in the classroom & beyond. Teachers should concentrate on what they do best: Teaching kids. #aussieED
A7. I like the PLC mindset of collective responsibility as efficacy...they (Ss) are all of our (Ts) responsibly to ensure the best outcomes. Plan which data is to be collected, knowing why, storing centrally and using it to drive teaching and discussions. #aussieED
A7: 1. Have a shared understanding of what data is, its purpose and uses. 2. Teach teachers and leaders how to construct data collection tools and for what purpose. 3. Provide it with the time and importance in deserves #aussieED
Thanks everyone for taking part in tonight's chat. This is something close to my heart and I'm still learning the landscape (as we all are) so I cherish your thoughtfulness and willingness to share! #aussieED
Be well this week. Lots of ppl in report land and such. Stay healthy!
A7. Make a decision about #ables and how it’s going to be used by the end of the year so we can start 2019 focused on those goals. Encourage more digital sharing between staff of unit plans, not just emailing them to leadership #aussieED
The question is "WHO WANTS THE DATA?" - If it's a teacher or school? - Then we need small data and a focus on reflective practice plus formative information to help intervention with school. Or do we have BIG BROTHER GOV using data to pursue accountability. #aussieED
A4 - admit I have been stuck on question 3 (great discussions) - so for this question - my answer is YES - though we need to remember that data is broad and intricate #aussieED
A7:- difficult one to answer. Not all schools have a system and there are multiple systems. Best answer may be having guiding principles and a framework which can be applied across all systems and schools with the aim of nation wide cohesion in the use of data. #AussieEd.
A5- I think we should approach teaching and data collection like a great science experiment- with a good question that can frame the data needed! This way we can ensure we do not collect data for data sake- but in line with a goal- #aussieED
I read an article in Mindshift that “a grading strategy that puts the focus on LEARNING from our mistakes. “ Maybe that is what Data is used for?
Thanks so much Rob ! Enjoy the rest of your evening. #AussieED
I think there is a subconscious awareness of the issues amongst teachers. As an edtech type start up who has attended a huge number of edtech pitches, the teachers in the room are always questioning the days privacy issues. #aussieED
A6 again it depends on that starting question! Maybe there are quick data questions and more long term ones? Maybe making parameters at the start of every year will help collate this and possible convert short term data into great longitudinal data!!!! #aussieED
#aussieEd if you are not providing students with the capacity to look at and make decisions from their own data, are you giving them any agency over their leRning at all?

a7. #aussieED From the tech POV one of the big suggestion I have is to include us in critical conversations. Since invariably some software gets involved in analyzing data of diff. kinds, our expertise can come in handy to highlight the right stuff going forward. Help it sustain.
#aussieEd What we really want is students tracking their own data! Then engaging with learning to fill the holes and feed their learning passion! #Studentbaseddatarecording
SPEAD THE WORD... Next #aussieED chat will be epic. We will look at the controversies and courtesy that covered 2018. 3 Questions about the BIGGEST EDU controversies of the year and 3 courteous examples of how we can grow our PLN, debate education and foster respect and warmth!
A7 I think my take home from these discussions is to teach teachers how to pose solid questions they can gain appropriate data from - also PL on privacy rules and implications - and how to best use the data (I.e. short term or long term) #aussieED
