Hello and welcome to #d100chat, I am Ms. Cap a 6th grade ELA teacher from @HeritageD100. This is my 12th year in education and my first time co-hosting a chat with one of my favorite collaboration partners @BigTimeLiteracy
Hi! Mary Havis, Superintendent @BerwynSouth100. It's been an amazing day of professional learning in D100 and I'm excited to end the day with a chat! #d100chat
A1: Collaboration is the working together to achieve a common goal. All paths can be different, which is the glory of collaborating. Different viewpoints, different backgrounds coming together!! #d100chat#bettertogether
A1 To me collaboration is an understanding that everyone has something to teach you, and when you work with that kind of mindset, there's always something new to learn, because you're always in the company of others. #d100chat
A1: Being a good team player! Also, using other T's strengths & combining them with my own in order to better education for our students, the curriculum for the district, and to better myself as an educator. #d100chat
A1: Collaboration to me is working together for the betterment of myself, my team, my school, and most importantly, my students! Regardless of personal feelings or backgrounds, keeping Ss first is motivation to surround myself with marigolds #d100chat
A1: To me collaboration means having an open mind and an open door. More minds are better than one and the only way to give our students what's best is by sharing, learning, and growing together. #d100chat
Oh yeah!! Define a word -> col+labor + ate/ + ion
collaboration (n.)
1860, "act of working together, united labor" from French collaboration, assimilated form of com "with" (see com-) + laborare "to work" (see labor (v.)). #d100chat
A1: Bringing different perspectives and life experiences help make everyone better, so collaborating is always valuable. Plus, when one person does well, everyone does #d100chat
Gary here, a father of 3 Irving grads, checking in to hear what the great staff of D100 is doing in educating the children entrusted to their care. #d100chat
Hi #d100chat! Annie, district iCoach. It’s been a great day of professional learning. I’m exhausted but happy for all the collaboration today w amazing @BerwynSouth100 teachers! 😊
A1 - Isn't it amazing how much we can learn about a word from its structure. I never really thought about how limited my "labor" is when I collaborate!! FUN! #d100chat#KomenskyLions
A1: Collaboration is a group of people who work together for a common purpose. Highly effective collaboration happens when the team can balance personal achievement with group goals.
#d100chat#irvingpride#bettertogether
A1: Collaboration is working together towards the same purpose. In order for it to work you need to listen, be open to different ideas and participate. #d100chat
A1: Collaboration is working together towards a common goal. Collaborating involves listening to understand, cooperating, compromising, standing your ground, and being actively engaged in the process, whatever that process may be! #d100chat#teampershing@PanthersD100
A1: Utilizing the skills of everyone to achieve a goal. I think it is not just about working together but combining our best stuff to do the best work. #d100chat
A1: Collaboration, to me, is the key to being a successful teacher: working together with coworkers, students, & educators from around the world (via Twitter)! We can all learn from each other & improve our craft as educators! #BetterTogether#d100chat#hiawathapride#d100pride
A1: Collaboration is never done on our own! It's important that we think of it not only as a noun but also a verb! We have to actively engage in a culture of coming together to share. Take it from a man who knows! #d100chat#growthmindset#cultureofcollaboration
A1: Collaboration is being able to work productively with others as part of a team or group allowing me to accomplish more than I could alone. #d100chat
A1: to me collaborating means to work with a partner/team to combine thoughts/ideas to create something greater than the individuals could have made on their own #d100chat
A1: Collaboration is sharing ideas, opinions, thoughts, answers, etc in a safe environment. It is also taking feedback to better ourselves. This includes as a team and for Ss. Always create a safe environment for collaboration so we can learn from each other! #d100chat
A1: Collaboration is never done on our own! It's important that we think of it not only as a noun but also a verb! We have to actively engage in a culture of coming together to share. Take it from a man who knows! #d100chat#growthmindset#cultureofcollaboration

A1: for me, collaboration is when you work on something with others and the result is something different/better than you could have done on your own. Not quite your idea, but also couldn’t have happened without you! #D100Chat
A1: Collaboration is also looking through others eyes and seeing their perspective. If we only look through our eyes, we will only see what we want to see. It is not best practice for schools and students #d100chat
I'm just watching the Office for the first time the past month and I LOVE IT and APPRECIATE THIS NOD to them! And you bring up a good point with the safe environment, too! #d100chat
A1: for me, collaboration is when you work on something with others and the result is something different/better than you could have done on your own. Not quite your idea, but also couldn’t have happened without you! #D100Chat
A2: Success in teamwork is seen every day in d100. The preschool program is outstanding and collaboration is seen with admins, teachers and all supporting staff. @SouthBerwynPre#d100chat
Collaboration is the believing that we are #bettertogether, and finding the time to work together. Or, like Clutch Powers say, "We build on each other." #LEGOcollaboration#d100chat
A2: #d100chat. I would not be where I am without the support of the Lit Coaches and the leadership of @leahod. You make me want to be a better me. Thank you all. Coaching Collaboration Rocks!
A2: After being used to working with first graders for the past few years, moving to a new place and a new grade was super intimidating. The 5th grade team has been so awesome in guiding and collaborating across the grade! #d100chat
A2: I feel lucky to work with a team of teachers that values collaboration. I feel comfortable asking a colleague for their input with full confidence that together we can create something better than apart. #d100chat
A2: W/ Ss to figure out tech issues, with Ts unit planning (Yay for an aligned curriculum to dive deeper into @leahod), with the dual team on programming and units, and on and on. Love working w/ and hearing other perspectives and ideas! #d100chat
A2: I have loved the collaboration offered across contents and grade levels this year...Big shoutout to @BigTimeLiteracy for making this possible and keeping me up-to-date on what is happening all over #TIQA#StopCollaborate&Listen #d100chat#HMSFalcons
A2: The biggest success has been getting to work with FMS ELA teachers for the past 2 years and getting to break apart the standards, the curriculum maps, and the assessments! Thanks @MsStevesELA,@leahod, and Rach Parker for all your help! #d100chat
A2: Collaborating with @Kat_Lenos during our plan times have really helped both of us plan for our class effectively. We bring our ideas and generate even more during our talks! #d100chat#teampershing
A2: I really enjoy collaborating with the @HeritageD100 SLT as well as with staff 1-on-1. Developing a shared vision & seeing results is exciting. Always impressed by the work of the @HeritageD100 focus groups & dedication of committees too. #d100chat
A2: At Heritage the collaboration that takes place during SIP, structural and content meetings. Everyone comes with ideas. The collaboration that grade level, content, and small teams have always keeps the purpose in mind, our students! #d100chat
A2: I ❤️ having my 2nd graders collaborate during writing. It’s a lot of hard work to teach effective #peerediting , but mine have become so successful at it, and it’s a joy to watch them help each other grow! #hiawathawrites#d100chat
A2: #teampershing has had so much success in collaboration during our morning meetings. We have had great conversations and shared ideas on how to make our school a better place for kids to learn #d100chat
A2: The biggest success has been getting to work with FMS ELA teachers for the past 2 years and getting to break apart the standards, the curriculum maps, and the assessments! Thanks @MsStevesELA,@leahod, and Rach Parker for all your help! #d100chat
A2: I love being able to collaborate within my building and within the district. There are so many experts in so many areas within the district. You just have to reach out and make those connections! #D100Chat
A2: We collaborate as a @PanthersD100 SIP team & we feel a sense of accomplishment in checking things off a list...They will never be truly done, but parts get completed bc of the collaborating, members that contribute to the good of the cause! That always feels good! #d100chat
A2: I am lucky to say I have been able to collaborate with several different colleagues across different content areas. Utilizing the different strategies used in other content areas has improved the delivery and instruction of my lessons and I am thankful for that :) #d100chat
A2: When my children were in school, I worked on many successful collaboration teams: Preschool committee, PTO, Religious Ed, Band, & School Board #d100chat
A2: Working with T2/3 kiddos, collaboration with classroom teachers is key to meeting goals and closing the gap! When both teachers collaborate on the specific student's needs, common goals will be set and working together to meet those goals is valuable! #d100chat#d100pride
A2: The ability and freedom I have received to work with several groups in all capacities this year are too numerous to name! TY to my wonderful @BerwynSouth100 family for all the collaborative learning we have done so far in only half a year! #d100chat
A2: I have learned that collaboration can't be coerced nor compelled. As a leader, I've had to work hard to ensure all members of the school community feel a sense of pride & ownership in their work #d100chat
A2: One of the coolest collaboration successes happened this year when I was able to Skype with I Survived author @LaurenTarshis! Working together to create this memorable experience for my students was great! #D100Chat
A2: @MegReckley is always there to help me talk through ideas I have! She even responds to my random late night texts about teaching ideas! 😂 #d100chat
A3: Hurdles are common in collaboration. Some peeps are big design thinkers and some go for the details 1st! Listening is the biggest factor to jump the hurdles. #d100chat
A2: Organized a Division wide Edcamp style PD with a few others. @DrMaryHoward brought together the #curiositycrew to help with a #g2great and we collaborated together and that same group is helping me with my first chat #d100chat
There are so many teams @BerwynSouth100 that collaborate every day. Too many committees to name, but impromptu collaboration in our classrooms, hallways, and offices is just as valuable! #d100chat
A2: #d100chat. I would not be where I am without the support of the Lit Coaches and the leadership of @leahod. You make me want to be a better me. Thank you all. Coaching Collaboration Rocks!
My family is caring for my 90 year old mother. We collaborate to make sure she gets her errands run, bills paid, to mass on Sunday, and all she needs to do is visit with her friends, kids, and grandkids. She is doing pretty great thanks to Team DiGilio #teampershing#d100chat
I agree! The work that has already happened is amazing, and I"m so excited for what lies ahead! What if we made a MS snapchat group for planning..... like whoa :P #d100chat
A2: collaboration w my team ( lit. coach, spec ed, ELL , Native teachers) to see teaching through different lenses. Always learning and sharing. #d100chat
A2: Collaborative success comes when you appreciate each person in the room for the experiences they share and truly keep yourself open to new ideas #d100chat
A3: Sometimes there are differences in opinions when attempting to collaborate. It’s important to listen to these differences and work toward a solution that meets all needs. #D100Chat
Watching the vertical alignment come together is pretty amazing. Thanks to everyone who has contributed to the process, including the committee members and the teachers applying it in their classrooms! #d100chat#d100pride
A2: W/ Ss to figure out tech issues, with Ts unit planning (Yay for an aligned curriculum to dive deeper into @leahod), with the dual team on programming and units, and on and on. Love working w/ and hearing other perspectives and ideas! #d100chat
A2: #d100chat I love collaborating with my amazing Science partner @Mrs_Coalson. She helps me think through my ideas and create really amazing lessons for our students.
There are so many teams @BerwynSouth100 that collaborate every day. Too many committees to name, but impromptu collaboration in our classrooms, hallways, and offices is just as valuable! #d100chat
A2: Having a clear goal in mind with agenda items helps to keep the conversation moving. I use Kagan strategies whenever I can to get everyone to share their ideas 💡#d100chat
A2: It's so great to hear that no matter what school, no matter what team, we all collaborate. Not because its important because our passion for education drives us to lead change together! #d100pride#d100chat
A3 - #d100chat The biggest challenge I have found to collaboration is culture. We all bring a set of beliefs and understandings to our culture. Today we did a terrific thing to help our culture with @adolphbrown
Q3: I feel the most challenging hurdle when collaborating with others is communication! This is important, especially in a co-taught classroom, because if there is lack of communication between teachers then the Ss are the ones who are most effected. #communicationiskey#d100chat
A3: Hurdles: Speaking from a coaching perspective, sometimes I think think there's a misconception about coaches, that we're in business to "fix" something, but that's not the case at all! To overcome: operate with honesty, vulnerability, transparency. Lead by example. #d100chat
A3: Personally, I think its hard for me to always express what exactly I am thinking. And I know I need to be a better listener too! OH and TIME! I feel like whenever we start getting rolling, we run out of time! #d100chat
A3: Collaboration can feel difficult when it challenges your thinking. To have success when collaborating we must be open to change. We need to keep an open mind and consider others' ideas if we truly want to make progress in our collaboration. #d100chat
A3: Struggles in collaboration can sometimes be my own fault and pride coming in the way. It can be hard to overcome thinking you know best. Being vulnerable is the hardest and yet most valuable part of collaborating. But once you're comfortable, it's amazing! #d100chat
A3: Being open to change and allowing myself to break away from what I am comfortable with when it comes to content for my Ss. Collaborating has taught me to be more open and I am thankful I have so many chances to collaborate bc then it's a new opportunity to learn. #d100chat
A3: one hurdle that comes up is a willingness to share ideas- especially with a new team. I usually share with a trusted colleague, gauge the response, and then determine whether or not to share with the group #d100chat#bettertogether
A2: I love collaborating with my amazing 2nd grade team! We all support each other and contribute to give our students the best! @MissAdame224@MissMaestraP 🙏🏻 #d100chat
I agree! The work that has already happened is amazing, and I"m so excited for what lies ahead! What if we made a MS snapchat group for planning..... like whoa :P #d100chat
Q3: @mrsninan1 and I overcome this everyday by making it a point to talk about what is happening in our classroom! Having time set aside for planning with each other helps communicate how we want our classroom to be and how we can best impact our students in 5LN! #d100chat
A3: I think one of the biggest hurdles you can face in collaboration is different mindsets. One way to overcome that as a leader is to positively reinforce everyone’s efforts to contribute ideas
#irvingpride#d100chat#bettertogether
We're teachers...we have so many best practices and innovative ideas it is sometimes tricky to prioritize and let yours "go" for the sake of the greater good...we eventually do it in spite of ourselves! #d100chat#teampershing
A3: One hurdle in collaboration is getting everyone on the same page. There must be common goals/objectives. These need to be explicitly stated and reviewed for progress and next steps #d100chat
A3: I always struggle to get students to collaborate with each other effectively and in a meaningful way when we’re doing something quick on the carpet. Suggestions? #d100chat
A3: Keeping an open mind but also an open ear! Sometimes getting past our own opinions can impact the success of collaboration. In the words of our amazing #D100PD speaker @docspeaks "humankind - be both" We all are here for a reason, whats yours and will you share it? #d100chat
A3: Collaborating is difficult when everyone involved is looking out for their own best interests and what works best for them. Having personal agendas and biases when collaborating can definitely be a hurdle. Everyone needs to be thinking about the good of the group. #d100chat
A3: Schedules! Plan times for classroom teachers are typically when I am working with students... Luckily, #hiawathapride teachers are very flexible and will stay after school/discuss during lunch. Always doing our best for students! #d100chat#d100pride
A3: Hurdles: Speaking from a coaching perspective, sometimes I think think there's a misconception about coaches, that we're in business to "fix" something, but that's not the case at all! To overcome: operate with honesty, vulnerability, transparency. Lead by example. #d100chat
It was so awesome to have @laydenchi and @kirstinmcginnis with us today in planning! The short amount of time didn't stop us from high quality collaboration.
A3: challenges come in when there is a lack of trust, vulnerability, and change that people feel is unnecessary. Honest discussions help overcome these hurdles #putitallonthetable#d100chat
Do you have long term partners that sit together on the rug - maybe they would stay partners for like 4-5 months? My "accountability buddies" work together long term, which helps build trust, and facilitates them getting to tasks quicker :-) #d100chat
A3: One hurdle is the give and take of sharing ideas and opinions. Understanding that what works for you may not work for someone else. We're all different and our classrooms are different #d100chat
A3 Working with others who say things like “that’s how it is” or anything of the like. Still working on how to work thru that negative energy. Suggestions? #D100Chat
Interesting! I think collaboration comes best when it has a great task. Does the carpet task match the collaboration objective, or maybe colllaboration would fit in better in a different task? Maybe communication is a good goal for carpet time? #d100chat
A3: #d100chat Sometimes when I collaborate with people I get a LITTLE too excited about an idea, which can be intimidating. I try to make sure to take a step back and listen to different ideas with an open and equally enthusiastic mindset.
A3: VULNERABILITY!! Being able to admit that you need help or have questions is key to collaborating. It is so important to be vulnerable. When we're not, it hinders our ability to collaborate. Ask questions! #d100chat
A4: SO to @sbutlerbsd100 for her years of service, dedication to learning, and admirable drive in D100. Always pushing the bubble to make something/one better. Grateful to have had her as a mentor, friend, and leader. Congrats on retirement! #d100chat
A4: I cannot forget my team at HMS! I love working with the 7th grade staff & my 7th grade ELA team! Getting to collab with all contents is always helpful and making sure the team runs smoothly is something we do a great job at! Our Ss are always #1 on our mind! #d100chat
