John, Head of an international American school in Mexico City. Going to attempt to juggle the trifecta of #twitter chats the best I can... #edugladiators#nt2t#BookcampPD
Welcome John! I just saw the graphic with all the chats. They all sound good, but with moderating one of them it'd be like juggling with a random bowling bowl thrown in there! Glad to have you to participate! #nt2t
Hannah, former 1st grade T, co-mod of #nt2t coming from outside of DC, USA. I've always dreamed of being a world changer in some way, probably education-related. @SFecich taught me to dream big!
Haha, that's the struggle! Outlets are always prime real estate at any tech-related conference! Great to have you for however long you can join us, Gwena! #nt2t
A1: I come originally from Fort Wayne so I'm used to a diverse community. The last two years I lived in Lafayette. There were many who were different from me especially politically. I just moved to Angola a few months ago so haven't had time to make many friends yet. #NT2t
I think the dog angle would be easy access point for kids. I've done a lot of the research/background and even started a small portion of the draft... but changing life has taken the free time I used to have :) #nt2t
A1 Expand your circle by engaging with those who engage with you, especially in Twitter chats. Don't sweat race, color, creed, gender, national origin or number of followers. Conversation is where it's at. The more conversation, the greater the circle will expand. #NT2t
A1: It is so important that ss are able to see others who are different from them esp. in communities like mine where diversity is very limited due to our isolation from the large cities. Twitter is a game changer for students. #Nt2t
Yes! The more candid we are, the more we will attract a diverse group of followers. As long as you tweet in a respectful, constructive manner, you will get the same in return! #Nt2t
A1 On twitter jumping into varied chats and making effort to follow those w opposing or shifted viewpoints. In life listening first and reading many sources #NT2t
A1: Connect with people on Twitter from different parts of the world-this also means different parts of the U.S. as we have so much diversity. Start conversations. #NT2T

A2: Cons: Lack of face-to-face accountability can breed further potential for bullying online. I am learning this is an epidemic across our country sadly. Pros: I have grown my pln immensely through Twitter. I learn so much from others here!!! #nt2t
A2 - Familiarity breeds understanding and contempt at the same time. The more we learn more of each other, the more we find things in common and the more we reveal our true selves. #nt2t
A2) Pro, we can connect with so many others across the world, including directly with experts and other prominent people. Con, if you become well-known on Twitter, your missteps can be amplified. #nt2t
A2 A small world breaks down barriers if you are welcoming and open-minded. On the other hand, if you get into heated disagreements, it can be like fighting in a phone booth. (Yeah, I still remember them.) #NT2t
Q2: Pros-learning from educators in other countries. They face similar issues and share their experiences. Cons-mean people (though personally I haven’t experienced that, but I pretty much only follow and look at educators). #NT2T
A2:
Pros- Offering opportunities to all Ss, leveling the playing field, opportunity to make a global impact from a young age
Cons- Wider negative audience, easy to be drowned out, bullying, addictive
#nt2t
Yes, you must be able to see other points of view so you can debate them in a respectful manner . Love having ss see other points of view which is easliy accomplished with Twitter/ #Nt2t
I can see this in some quarters. This though seems to be more normal in life generally and not just a twitter thing. #nt2t. Important to watch out for it.
A3: When it comes to students you have to prepare them and tell them that not everybody shares their opinions or views. Cultures across the world are very different but we must always be respectful. #Nt2t
I agree, most people are very agreeable. Perhaps it's not that everyone agrees, but that we disagree respectfully enough that it doesn't feel like an argument. I have seen some rude pushback though... #nt2t

On the one hand, I think we could all use less conflict and that draws us in to #Twitter. But, I also wonder if there's some lost learning opportunities that need to be considered... #nt2t
That is an interesting point. The chats I attend, people tend to agree. I was part of one where it started to get heated, but only once and I’ve been on quite a few chats.
A3 Part 2: B. We are all at different places and stages in life. C. Pray and ask God to help me see them through His eyes. Remind myself he created them just like he created me. #nt2t@hturk139
It's a really good point to consider. I know for myself, most of the time if I don't agree with something I just keep it to myself because I don't want to start anything. But maybe I should question more, both for my own growth and others. #nt2t
A3: Be respectful. If you don’t agree, that is ok because it is your opinion, but don’t attack the other person. If need be, walk away or leave the chat if it is upsetting you. Life is too short. Find something to make you happy and forget about it. #NT2T
A3) Usually openly, as that what opinions are for. But it also depends on the opinion. Some things are worth fighting for. If you have a few minutes later, I talk more at length about this here: https://t.co/NxIFCduZa2#nt2t@RosaIsiah
A4 Twitter is a powerful pulpit, which becomes real when you have multiple conversations with people around the world. One tweeter has as much of a voice as another. Remember, with great power comes awesome responsibility. #NT2t
A4: By sharing the great things that your students are doing in your class and community. A wonderful way to inspire other teachers and students in their communities. Keep sharing the goodness. #Nt2t
A4) Share the positive things going on in your school/classroom. Share the good things you see - acts of kindness, people doing the right thing. #nt2t
Sorry to join late. Chris from Bloomington, IN. Teach world history for private online HS.
A4: Twitter is the great equalizer. Without looking at someone's profile, everyone is the same in a chat. I can talk to famous authors, educators, and leaders the same as I would talk to my colleagues across the hall. #nt2t
A4: I think we are doing it right now. We are sharing our thoughts and ideas. We are learning from each other. Twitter allows us to “meet” new people. #NT2T
A4: One way I personally use Twitter for good is I post pictures of my students and their success stories from my classroom. It also helps build relationships. #nt2t

Exactly! That is what ultimately gave me confidence to approach people and start conversation, even with those that are 'out of my league' professionally. #nt2t
For consideration: As we all are talking about disagreeing respectfully, we need to be sure that we can accept disagreement respectfully. I know that when others question me, I can get defensive. And yet, I use questions to learn more about differing opinions. Thoughts? #nt2t
We all have to learn to navigate communicating with tech since we don't get nonverbal cues. Much can be misinterpreted; we should approach communication even more sensitive than usual. #digcit#nt2t

A5: Make sure that students who are shy are given time to express their views and that goes for adults, too. Twitter and @flipgrid are great tools for those who are shy. Give lots of encouragement. #Nt2t
And give others the benefit of the doubt as much as possible, while making our intentions crystal clear. While much can be gained through instantaneous text communication, much is lost also. #nt2t
A5: For our Ss, provide multiple methods of communication from which to choose. One thing I do is have students create videos and answer questions to me in Spanish. I share the best ones with the class. #NT2T

A5) Don't restrict conversations to people of certain roles and statuses. Even better, invite them. Love being a moderator and a guest in chats initially intended for teachers. #2ndchat#nt2t
A5: On Twitter, retweets are comparable to upvotes (I'm on a Reddit theme now, I can't stop). Through many retweets, valuable voices are heard. And sometimes not as valuable... #nt2t
I think you only really catch on if you've talked to someone in person or on video so you get a good feel for where he or she is coming from. Remember, body language is more than 90 percent of communication. #NT2t
My mother in law is very similar. In one sense I appreciate it because I always know where she stands. But in another sense...she has definitely made me cry before by not considering how her words may affect me. #nt2t

Don't fall down the Reddit rabbit hole! https://t.co/lzSKz4kmvP is a platform for people to make their own communities (sub-reddits), and is a lovely mishmash of all the best and worst of the internet. #nt2t
It has been interesting to see subtle differences in people once I've connected via Hangouts or viewed (and heard) them on @flipgrid. Perception and reality collide and must be reconciled #nt2t
A6 For students, teachers set the example. If they see you interacting on Twitter and how you benefit from it, they will find their voice and follow your lead. #NT2t
A6: It allows them to communicate their thoughts , opinions and accomplishments to the world in an instantaneous fashion. Something that never existed a few years ago. WIth that, comes much responsibility. #Nt2t
Well when you only have 280 characters, you have to get to the point pretty quickly. And the communities I'm in tend to give people the benefit of the doubt. #nt2t

A6: They realize for the first time (at least in my age group) that there is a world larger than their family out there who can hear/see their work. #nt2t
A6) They can reach out to favorite authors, politicians, etc. and ask questions. They may get answers! They can also share their ideas with a wide audience. My son is sharing his digital artwork & collaborating w/ others for voiceovers for his animations. #nt2t
And if you’re a teacher who’s not openly connected on social media, you’re NOT setting an example. I’m not sure doing no harm because you don’t do anything at all teaches anybody anything. #digcit#nt2t

I probably write a little better than I speak because I take it slower and write one word at a time. However, I do need spellcheck when I'm talking. #NT2t
I prefer writing to talking because it forces me to slow down and reread what I wrote...not a luxury I have when I talk, which usually results with a foot in my mouth! #nt2t
I'll just pass along this item about teachers I posted on Medium this morning, pulled from my tweets last night on #EngageChat talking about great teachers. https://t.co/vDEurhn8Dg#NT2t
A6) By giving everyone a voice, including the quieter ones who feel more confident on here. I mentioned voice at the #digcitsummit as a key benefit (and responsibility) of digital citizenship. #nt2t
