A1: not sure what intentional content is, but would guess its about being intentional about what were teaching? #flipclass

  • matthew_t_moore Oct 16 @ 8:10 PM EDT
#flipclass A1 intentional is one of the most neglected pillars of #flippedlearning. This is where you good design breeds good results
  • lanier_katiesue Oct 16 @ 8:12 PM EDT
A1 The #flipclass "i" was always a work in progress. Started with good intentions and kept trying to improve the class activities.
  • matthew_t_moore Oct 16 @ 8:12 PM EDT
This was probably the biggest benefit and change for me with #flipclass. I am a personality teacher not a preper. Flip rquire time mangmnt
  • JJBackeberg Oct 16 @ 8:12 PM EDT

    In reply to @lauravoges

A1: I see Flipped Learning as a way to get to know each Ss individual needs and wants. Then we can cater our content to that. #flipclass
  • matthew_t_moore Oct 16 @ 8:16 PM EDT
as usual katie is hitting the nail on the head. the reflection and dissection of #flipclass forces revision and review
    • lanier_katiesue Oct 16 @ 8:14 PM EDT

A2: Ss are actively learning during class - direct teaching is minimal or nonexistent outside of videos #flipclass (more time for hands on!)
  • lanier_katiesue Oct 16 @ 8:23 PM EDT
A2 direct teach for physics = things to copy, equations, diagrams, examples. active = lab, practice, harder applications #flipclass
  • flippingwithjoy Oct 16 @ 8:23 PM EDT
A2 in science I aim for group space to be hands-on &/or make use of the presence of peers as a “learning community” #flipclass
  • matthew_t_moore Oct 16 @ 8:23 PM EDT
A2: math tends to be a non-lab class and I find the "Tennis method" works active engagement. I serve, they respond, they serve, #flipclass
  • flippingwithjoy Oct 16 @ 8:24 PM EDT
A2 cont’d direct instruction for me is great for procedural stuff like how to write a chemical formula from the compound’s name #flipclass
  • stendecfan1 Oct 16 @ 8:24 PM EDT
In physics, the direct teach pieces were typically example problems and clarifications and perhaps some gotchas in the flipped notes. #flipclass
    In reply to @lanier_katiesue
  • brogers_20 Oct 16 @ 8:24 PM EDT
A2: In math, I see tremendous benefit to Ss being direct taught challenging material. Ss can then collaborate and work together. #flipclass
  • flipping_A_tchr Oct 16 @ 8:25 PM EDT
A2 basically #flipclass vid lessons for hist. context, sequence, vocab -- class time for analyzing primary sources, F2F disc, indep projects
  • matthew_t_moore Oct 16 @ 8:25 PM EDT
I still have DI in the IC space but more efficient. Ss use #flipclass to come primed to learn I short burst DI, immediate practice apply
  • lanier_katiesue Oct 16 @ 8:25 PM EDT
We started with a 2-3 video per unit, 1st conceptual, 2nd equations w/examples, 3rd more difficult concepts and equations. #flipclass
    In reply to @stendecfan1
  • flippingwithjoy Oct 16 @ 8:26 PM EDT
A2 cont’d (more) dir instr in indiv space also my preference for stuff I hate blabbing on about like cell parts... #notabiologist #flipclass
  • JJBackeberg Oct 16 @ 8:26 PM EDT
    A1: direct-equations, formulas, examples, "the basics" ... active-practice w/ content, applications... "deeper understanding" #flipclass
  • brogers_20 Oct 16 @ 8:26 PM EDT
I can see this working for math as well. Direct teach formulas. Then leave the active learning for application problems. #flipclass
    • lanier_katiesue Oct 16 @ 8:23 PM EDT
A2 direct teach for physics = things to copy, equations, diagrams, examples. active = lab, practice, harder applications #flipclass

  • matthew_t_moore Oct 16 @ 8:27 PM EDT
I limit my #flipclass vids to vocab, and example I do not trust deeper learn responsibility in the individual space.
    • lanier_katiesue Oct 16 @ 8:25 PM EDT

Direct Teach for English = Structure and Citation Style. Actively Learn = Writing Process and Finding Sources #flipclass
    In reply to @lanier_katiesue
  • stendecfan1 Oct 16 @ 8:27 PM EDT
You cannot put everything in the flipped videos or they become too long (>15 min.) Direct teach allows longer explanations and a few digressions. #flipclass
    In reply to @lanier_katiesue
  • flippingwithjoy Oct 16 @ 8:28 PM EDT
Yes, the harder applications the students used to just give up on if given for HW #flipclass

  • matthew_t_moore Oct 16 @ 8:31 PM EDT
@KyleDil1988 I teach math but I would think flip and english are natural pairs with the diversity of foundation skills neccessary #flipclass
  • lanier_katiesue Oct 16 @ 8:32 PM EDT
I've observed a very cool math lesson with breakout boxes to mix things up a bit. #flipclass
    In reply to @flippingwithjoy, @matthew_t_moore

A3: I think it's also important for Ss to see how the direct-teach material applies to the real world. #flipclass
  • flipping_A_tchr Oct 16 @ 8:32 PM EDT

  • lanier_katiesue Oct 16 @ 8:35 PM EDT

  • matthew_t_moore Oct 16 @ 8:36 PM EDT
I understood Q3 as what I am trying to accomplish by using IC time rather than flip and what type of out come I wanted. #flipclass
  • lanier_katiesue Oct 16 @ 8:36 PM EDT
Parents tend to think this is a way for us to not teach, when it is actually a path to better teaching/learning opportunities. #flipclass
    In reply to @flippingwithjoy
  • JJBackeberg Oct 16 @ 8:36 PM EDT
A3: I tell my Ss all the time, you won't master the content by just watching the vids, you have to take that knowledge and use it #flipclass
  • brogers_20 Oct 16 @ 8:37 PM EDT
A3: It's important to give Ss background information, while giving them the skills to explore the material for themselves. #flipclass
