Run by Iowa educators, #IAedchat is on Twitter the first, second, and third Sundays each month at 8:00pm CST. We have added #IAedchat LIVE to the fourth Sunday of the month at 8:00pm CST. This will take place in Google Hangout on Air. We will share the invitation and link to #IAedchat LIVE each month.
CAST is such a great organization, if you haven't checked out their resources about UDL, you can find a ton on their site https://t.co/3n3RxJUcce#iaedchat
#AEM and #UDL is an equity issue, we can better design learning for all students using the technology and pedagogy we have available to us today. #iaedchat
I have a new site that I am working on to better house resources for accessibility and UDL, which others can add to using Forms and such, should be better as I go along, check it out at https://t.co/7TAIisOoYO#iaedchat
UDL is not synonyms with special education. It’s an ED thing, not a Special Ed thing.
Driving idea… expert learning. How can we create environments to drive this?
#IAedChat
The change from a focus on content to focusing on helping students become expert learners is a heavy task but one that I hope we will focus on. #iaedchat
"The core to UDL, there is a spectrum in ability. Giving students some flexibility in demonstrating their understanding is an important feature" @eyeonaxs#iaedchat
It is amazing how much technology has changed even in the last decade to allow for more tools and options for students to make learning more accessible, we just have to take advantage of it. #iaedchat
"Accessibility is the entry point, but by itself is not sufficient. There is a gradual progression from students gaining access to materials to students interacting and synthesizing the material" @eyeonaxs#iaedchat
My hearing disability I had as a kid, and still do have somewhat, greatly impacts how I view learning and classrooms. Important for others to share their stories too when it comes to helping others understand the why of accessibility and UDL #iaedchat
YouTube automatically creates a closed captioning track but you can easily edit it yourself on videos you upload. I still need to do that for my #ISUci454 video this week but it just got done uploading, will get done though. #iaedchat
Being a strong role model in the classroom is a great way to promote a safe technology environment. Dedicating a few whole class periods to educate students is necessary for their future technological participation #iaedchat
Plus 1 thinking: What can you do tomorrow to improve your curriculum and make it more accessible to provide more options for learners? @eyeonaxs
It’s not a checklist!
For reference:
UDL Guidelines

UDL is more of a mindset, continually improving the curriculum. What is one more way you can present the info, what is one more way they can interact with it. Not a checklist, but keep a focus on your goal. @eyeonaxs#iaedchat
If you work with someone else who teaches the same course/content, work together to find those other ways for students to interact/learn/show learning - doesn't have to be a solo activity. #iaedchat
Just another reminder that you have to be clear on your goal, whether you call it a learning goal, standard, or whatever. Need to have a destination in mind otherwise you will be wandering around aimlessly. #iaedchat
Creating expert learners will help set our students up for success as they continue to learn, whether in higher ed or the workforce. - @eyeonaxs#iaedchat
If we spend a lot of money on resources, textbooks included, and they are not accessible for all learners, we are doing a major disservice to our students. #iaedchat
#iaedchat Just jumping in on the conversation appreciate UDL being the topic. Introduced Asst Tech under the UDL model to a district I worked at in the early 2000's. When spoke on the national UDL panel we emphasized: "UDL, Bringing Common Sense Back into Instruction."
Such a great point that UDL and AEM should be a collaborative effort across the school and district, not a quick process but one that should be started #iaedchat
Why Iowa SSB 1190 changing the language about Teacher Librarians is not good for Iowa's students. Good school library programs start with a certified teacher librarian. #iowaTL#iowa#iaedchat
