Alicia from northwest NC - Lead Digital Learning & Media Innovation Facilitator at an amazing STEM magnet middle school! Creator of #DBC50Summer! Today was the first day of school for students and it was magical! I love the energy my Ss bring! #tlap
Students used Playdoh to create something that represented them. We had cinnamon buns, sculptures of their pets and family members, symbols, and even different major landmarks from their home countries. #tlap#teachlikeapirate@MBRoadrunners#mbroadrunners
Hi! Tisha I’m a new Tech Integration Specialist in Medford, OR! Super excited about my new role!

Hi all. Mike from MI. 6/7 Science Teacher by day and magician of putting my 3 daughters to bed at night. Haven’t had my first day yet but I know it will be like.. #tlap
Hello, #TLAP! Anna from San Diego, where I have been teaching English 11 to an incredible group of kiddos for the last five weeks! So excited that @iluveducating is hosting!
Q1: Our Captain @burgessdave disrupted the publishing business by starting @dbc_inc to publish #tlap. What will you disrupt in the 2018-2019 school year?
Hi! I'm Thomas from North Carolina! I am an Instructional Facilitator, and @iluveducating#1FAN :)) Today was an INCREDIBLE day of learning and leading! #tlap
Kristen from PA. I teach 6th grade physical science. Today was my first day with kids where I got to play my plastic pink guitar and laugh with awesome adults. My favorite was one kid’s comment- “how do you have so much energy?!” 😂😂😂😂 #tlap
A1 This year I have decided that I will not be assigning "homework" and will be offering retakes and redos on assessments. And other things I have not thought of yet!!! #tlap
A1 - I am already disrupting my school by starting a #makerspace and working with teachers to integrate it into secondary learning. It has been incredibly well received and I cannot wait to do more lesson planning with my fellow teachers. #tlap
A1: Starting in a new role, I’m hoping to bring collaboration, new ideas, and help my students be included in their classrooms with whatever supports are needed #tlap

Q1: Our Captain @burgessdave disrupted the publishing business by starting @dbc_inc to publish #tlap. What will you disrupt in the 2018-2019 school year?
Getting to know each other with PlayDoh was a huge success! And such a great conversation starter while the kiddos worked! Thanks @burgessdave! Can’t wait to put more TLAP ideas into action!
#TLAP
A1 I am the new principal of a school that has had the same principal for the most part since opening. I’m ready to embrace the strong foundation they built and to add onto it pushing out of comfort zones remaining relevant and rigorous creating experiences for our kids #TLAP
Q1: Our Captain @burgessdave disrupted the publishing business by starting @dbc_inc to publish #tlap. What will you disrupt in the 2018-2019 school year?
A1: @iluveducating and me have a TOP SECRET, EPIC plan in store for the #tlap PLN. I also look forward to implementing a PD Challenge District-Wide with @JKuderIRT and @YeagerBrent. It will include a Prize Patrol! Woot! Woot! #tlap
A2 I will distrup the “box”.... I’m going to blow up the “box”—embracing my genuine self and empowering all Ss I interact with. They are are all our kids. I am going to disrupt mediocrity and negativity with hurricane of positivity. #tlap
Q1: Our Captain @burgessdave disrupted the publishing business by starting @dbc_inc to publish #tlap. What will you disrupt in the 2018-2019 school year?
YES! Pushing people out of their comfort zones can be scary for them, but with support and encouragement, they will see insanely awesome results! #tlap
#tlap A1 @burgessdave book inspired me to start writing. In a couple of months my 1st book "The Story of Always Believe" will hit the book stores! VERY EXCITING TIME NOW!
A1: I will be disrupting the notion that being mediocre is ok. That some students can’t learn. I’m bringing energy and enthusiasm to break that mindset. #tlap
Q1: Our Captain @burgessdave disrupted the publishing business by starting @dbc_inc to publish #tlap. What will you disrupt in the 2018-2019 school year?
Hi I'm Priscilla from NJ! I teach Tech, STEM, & GiftedEd grades 1-4. Not in session yet, but how I feel about my room getting done & my Ss seeing it! #tlap
A1: I’m disrupting the fear of grades with this awesome first week #tshirttueaday. First @PearDeck “pop quiz” of the year - shhhhhh. It’s about ME ... 😂😂😂 and then we are going to talk about learning vs getting a good grade #tlap
A1: This year, I am going to disrupt the way my students see their grades versus their learning, and I will disrupt any ideas of reading and writing being inaccessible or boring. #TLAP
A1: I want to disrupt the culture of "memorize and regurgitate" the required material to pass the course. I want to enable my students to create, be curious, and empower each other! #tlap
A1 - This year I will disrupt the idea that learning takes place within the four walls of a classroom! We are going global for sure! Can't wait to connect to classrooms around the country and the world! #tlap
A1: I’m going to disrupt the status quo by changing how world language teaching looks like in our district through more tech integration and innovative and creative projects that will amplify student voice. #tlap
A1: I’m trying to get more teachers involved in board meetings, School Improvement Team meetings, PTA, and trying to push for more alumni outreach (our school is only 16 years old)... #TLAP
A1. Disrupting the norm- not allowing teachers to do things as they have always been just for the sake of it has always been that way. We are changing things up, shaking up education, being bold, and doing what WE do! #tlap
A1: I'm in a new school this year and we're going to"Have a Blast". I don't think they're ready for it. A parent said today, "Nora is going to have so much fun," when he saw me all PIRATED UP for a workshop #tlap
1) #TLAP we sometimes try to legitimize our behavior by saying “it’s all for the kids”. While our decisions must always be for the kids we must be strategic so our voice continues to resonate https://t.co/UCpPfexqML
A1:creating a school motto, shared vision, & mission! Giving my teachers the green light to make learning come alive for kids. I don’t want school to be something kids just DO. I want them to be empowered in the learning process. Same for my Ts! #tlap
A1: We’re letting teachers design their own professional learners get with lots of “Genius PD” this year! I can’t wait to see where the learning takes us! #DistuptED#LeadLAP#InnovatorsMindset#TLAP
#tlap A1: Continue to make learning more student centered. We have been given more freedom in the classroom to do what we need to, so it will be interesting to see where we go with it!
A1: Well... I am a box breaker, disrupter by nature & so I will continue. This year, my goal is to lead others to the outside of the box! That is where the magic happens! #tlap
A1: Already started today. Teaching kids to collaborate and share ideas rather than hoard knowledge and sit in isolation. Your good idea + my good idea = The next great idea. We are #BetterTogether. #tlap
Q1: Our Captain @burgessdave disrupted the publishing business by starting @dbc_inc to publish #tlap. What will you disrupt in the 2018-2019 school year?
A1 Disrupt the notion of some middle schoolers thinking kindness is “too cool” for them. Spreading kindness around like crazy and showing how amazing and important it is for EVERYONE! #tlap
A1: Ready to sprinkle some magic on PD, teaching & learning in our district in my new role as Tech Integration Specialist!💫
...and pretty stinkin’ excited that my book Make Learning Magical will be released to the world soon with DBC!!! #tlap#MLmagical
It has been really amazing for not only the students but for the teachers. We have trainings and common lesson planning in the space. It has been great having five or six educators in the space working together over the course of the afternoon. #tlap
A1: I'm hoping to disrupt the status quo! I want my #passionforkindness to shine through in all I do, with every person I serve! I want to be the change! #tlap
Q1: Our Captain @burgessdave disrupted the publishing business by starting @dbc_inc to publish #tlap. What will you disrupt in the 2018-2019 school year?
Q1: Our Captain @burgessdave disrupted the publishing business by starting @dbc_inc to publish #tlap. What will you disrupt in the 2018-2019 school year?
A1. Every Ss should set goals in learning. Reflection upon these goals. Whether they met goals, didn't, or surpassed goals, and need to increase goals!#tlap
A1: I believe this question is helping me to decide that I will give my Ss a choice in their learning each wk instead of us all doing the same STEM challenge! #tlap

A1: I've been disrupting my routine. Instead of playing everything safe, I've been trying new things, and working to provide innovative, exciting opportunities for my students and I to build lasting learning. #tlap@ERobbPrincipal@KTuttleEDU@DrCBishop@tamaraletter@E_Sheninger
Q1: Our Captain @burgessdave disrupted the publishing business by starting @dbc_inc to publish #tlap. What will you disrupt in the 2018-2019 school year?
Q2: Creative Alchemy started #DBC50Summer. I wanted to read the @dbc_inc books on my shelf, needed to blog more, and hoped to get some great ideas for the new school year! What outside passions/interests will you bring into your classroom? #tlap
A1: I want to ‘disrupt’ the boundaries that have been placed on my Ss in the past! I want them to realize their full potential & for us to take our learning to new levels! We’ll be pushing past preconceived limits & embracing opportunities that come our way! #tlap
A1: Starting handwritten birthday cards for every student, building a stronger community of readers - encouraging teachers to read what our kids read, just a couple of things. #tlap
A1: 2 main disruptions: Have Ss tracking their own mastery of the standards and also switch all ENG and business classes over to one platform (Wordpress) for their blogs to build a portfolio they can take with them when they leave. #tlap
Disrupting education only happens when educators see positive change in their practice. If we can improve the teaching and learning environment then everyone benefits. #tlap
A1: I'm using @Seesaw for the first time for digital student portfolios/parent communication, launching a Wonder Wall/Genius Hour, and focusing on how I can revolutionize my classroom library to maximize student voice & choice! #tlap
A1: I'm looking forward to doing a #tlap book study with my staff this year and creating uncommon experiences for our students and lighting ourselves on fire with enthusiasm to hook students into learning!
A1: I want to disrupt negativity in my building! Working on elements such as a "what is my why?" Flipgrid and a book tasting featuring some of my fav @dbc_inc books! #tlap
A1: I am going to distrupt the "OOOhhhh, you teach MIDDLE SCHOOL??" response from the public by getting as many Ss and Ts to tweet daily a positive from their day using #SennettShines so we can begin to tell our awesome story.
#tlap
A1- we want to encourage our staff to strive for excellence and not to fear failure. We will continue to cultivate a school of Ts & Admin taking calculated risks that model for our Ss to do the same. Care and Try Everyday. #tlap
Q2: Creative Alchemy started #DBC50Summer. I wanted to read the @dbc_inc books on my shelf, needed to blog more, and hoped to get some great ideas for the new school year! What outside passions/interests will you bring into your classroom? #tlap
A1: We're already disrupting the row system we've used for too many years. Today, we walked a group of thirty-two students to move from small groups to pods and back again. And it went pretty smoothly. I shouldn't have been surprised. Glad to give something like this a try. #tlap
A1 I'm working with a new teacher this year. His entire dept uses guided notes. I told him we're going to use two-column note system. He asked if that is okay? He was worried that because he was doing something "different," he was doing something wrong! I LOVE going ROGUE!
A2: I grew up in a gamer house & have always loved it so hello why haven't I gamified anything yet?? Got to just cannonball in right @TaraMartinEDU ? 😀👍🏻#tlap
In reply to
@iluveducating, @dbc_inc, @TaraMartinEDU
A2 I love vinyl records so I’m bringing in my portable turntable more often for kids to listen while working. This will then go into a engineering project where they create a device to play a record without electricity. #tlap
A2 - This year I am applying #TeachSDGs to my classroom and working to help students understand their own choices through using 20 percent time and student choice. I am excited to see how this flops or is awesome. #tlap
A2. For staff, I want to provide ways for more connections- I like to run so we will have a “run and chat”. For kids - give more opportunities to lead in our school #tlap
Q2: Creative Alchemy started #DBC50Summer. I wanted to read the @dbc_inc books on my shelf, needed to blog more, and hoped to get some great ideas for the new school year! What outside passions/interests will you bring into your classroom? #tlap
A2: Running this tomorrow. When our students see the talents they come "preloaded" with, they will be more inclined to connect it with classroom curriculum. Beyond that, we need to be willing to grow. Hence the "yet". #tlap
A2: I LOVE memiors! My favorite thing is to learn as much about each other as possible and understand why we are connected!! Really..the more you know the more you grow! #tlap
Hearing the common language from my coworkers when discussing passion and hooks has been incredible this year! Be sure to connect with @burgessdave for a GHO! #tlap
A2 - As a HPE teacher it’s my passion to promote the idea of body and mind connections. We can’t stay for the status quo of kids siting in their desks for hours at a time and teachers not moving around the room. Exercise for the mind and body is Science driven #tlap
A2: I enjoy giving professional development. I am working with @DisruptedTv on doing a "Learning Sparks" series of professional learning snapshots. Check it out on Student Engagement! https://t.co/MyGT6uMass#tlap

A2: my passion for being myself and loving myself for everything I am and everything I am not. Got lost on the way to school this am, forgot my computer at home, but still had a great day because I found ways to be myself and laugh. I want ss to be able to do that as well. #tlap
A1: I'm also looking with real interest at ideas like TQE to get students to take the lead out of the reading we are doing. The ability to share thinking and to craft discussion-worthy questions recalibrates the "center" for #Room407. Disruption by definition, right? #tlap
A2: This is the year that I’m determined to try new things, get out of my comfort zone, achieve my goals & help others achieve theirs. I’m going to share my process as I blog & try new things outside of school like when @khoggardGRT & I went to the adventure park #TLAP
Q2: Creative Alchemy started #DBC50Summer. I wanted to read the @dbc_inc books on my shelf, needed to blog more, and hoped to get some great ideas for the new school year! What outside passions/interests will you bring into your classroom? #tlap
A2: I have personally been working on thoughtful design and how that can impact the message. My goal is to bring that into school and afterschool. #tlap

A2: Virtual field trips have been SO on my heart this past summer. Already arranged my first one with an Archaeologist in Nebraska this month! Excited to pursue bringing these "experts" in and sharing my love of travel! #tlap
YES! We aren’t going to do the same thing over and over if it isn’t working. We have a plan and will put it into action. We will refine it and make it better. Plan your work. Work your plan. This may require healthy risk taking and getting off the porch! #tlap#GOTP
A1. Disrupting the norm- not allowing teachers to do things as they have always been just for the sake of it has always been that way. We are changing things up, shaking up education, being bold, and doing what WE do! #tlap
A1: I’m late, but I made it! Kelly from MO . 5th grade ELA. I’m trying hard this year to incorporate more student choice and voice with increased time for student led inquiry. #tlap
A2: I would love to spark more passion for creating global citizens among my Ss by sharing about all my travels to France and offering to take my Ss on trips abroad. #tlap
A2) Outside passion & interests that I will be incorporating into the school day is more dancing, music, reading, story telling, making videos, & being extra cheesy/goofy #tlap
2) I have a goal to run around the world...in lots of small chunks. I post my progress for students and staff to see. Creates a lot of conversation about goals, persistence, geography, etc... my passion can motivate their learning ...10,134 miles down. #tlap

A2: I enjoy blogging, creating websites, creating digital breakouts, I started a podcast but I need to get back at it. But I have encouraged students to begin blogging, and we did a digital breakout for my syllabus. #tlap
A2: I’m ready to share my passion for reading and writing with students and families and staff! We’ve been using Facebook Live for Read Alouds and it’s a game changer. It’s time to get a YouTube Channel and maybe even start blogging. #TheTimeIsNow#tlap#LeadLIT
A2: I bring in my passion for restaurants/food to help analyze historical ideas (Chipotle for assembly lines, pizza construction for monopolies, etc.), and my passion for Shark Tank for the return of my Return of the Century Shark Tank! #tlap
Q2: Creative Alchemy started #DBC50Summer. I wanted to read the @dbc_inc books on my shelf, needed to blog more, and hoped to get some great ideas for the new school year! What outside passions/interests will you bring into your classroom? #tlap

#tlap
A2: I love graphic design, baking, cooking, reading in voices, singing (my voice is epic), helping others, planning parties, and writing. Here is a little love for @iluveducating ! #tlap
#tlap A2 I LOVE TO TRAVEL! My Ss get to watch this video as they come into my room. I ask them to write down two places they would like to visit, and during the year I tell them about these places. LOVE SHARING THIS! https://t.co/xPOM8A0OHP
A2 #tlap I love mailing positive notes to friends. When in school, I try to frequently write something nice to my peers as well as students. While they do independent work, I walk around with post-its and write them notes!
Q2: Creative Alchemy started #DBC50Summer. I wanted to read the @dbc_inc books on my shelf, needed to blog more, and hoped to get some great ideas for the new school year! What outside passions/interests will you bring into your classroom? #tlap
YES!!! It takes a lot of practice, but it is possible! It also is a great way to teach them the importance of repetitive practice and perseverance! #TLAP
A2: With staff, I’m hoping to participate in book clubs. With students, I’d love to learn more how to incorporate yoga into their routine or for movement/calming breaks! #tlap
A2: I hope to bring my passion to never stop learning to everything I do. From computer knowledge, to fitness, nutrition and even working on cars. It doesn’t matter because I am always up to learn something new. #tlap
Yo man, I need to share my geography "breakout" with you. Right now it looks more like an impossible to fail quiz, I want to see what I need to change to make it more of a breakout! #tlap
Q2: Creative Alchemy started #DBC50Summer. I wanted to read the @dbc_inc books on my shelf, needed to blog more, and hoped to get some great ideas for the new school year! What outside passions/interests will you bring into your classroom? #tlap

Haha! You are in the business of making dreams come TRUE, my friend! Can’t wait to share a #passionforkindness with the WORLD!! Watch out 2019! We are scattering seeds of kindness EVERYWHERE! #tlap#joy
#tlap A2 For the past 18 years, have brought the my love of the #80s decade to our Ss as a class. In 2013, began to have icons of the decade speak with our students. Each year, continue to reach out to bring more speakers in to engage our students.

#tlap
Q1: Our Captain @burgessdave disrupted the publishing business by starting @dbc_inc to publish #tlap. What will you disrupt in the 2018-2019 school year?
A2: Game design. I love making and playing new and crazy games. I use some in math. Hope to use some I design in other subjects too and have kids make some we can play as well. #tlap
Q3: My journey in #DBC50Summer has rocked my world & changed my perspective! Which @dbc_inc book(s) have impacted you the most? How? Feel free to share a meaningful quote from the book, too! #tlap
#tlap A2: I plan on adding more options for choices in what we read for the students based on some of the books from #ProjectLITBookClub. I also plan on adding more local history and local community service type opportunities to the curriculum.
It's such a wonderful idea to include staff in this. I do this for my Ss, thanks for challenging me to take it elsewhere and write notes to my colleagues! #tlap
A2: I love painting, art, and design! My goal is to add an element of creativity to #tlap PD and let teachers design/create their own! It’s all about choice!
A2 my love for people and learning about others into my school. We are a large school that is just now starting to diversify... we need to start learning about other people and seeing things from different perspectives. #tlap
A2: I really like collage art (those who do it really well). I do my own collage art, remixing classic and contemporary picture books. I'd like to use these to talk about "collage essays" and how we might do them in the room together. Perhaps to teach categories/subjects. #tlap
A2: I love to bring in my own reading and writing experiences to the kids. I also love to bring my passion for music, all different genres. Well, I may be a little heavy on 80’s pop! 😂 #tlap
+1 I’m trying hard to let go and be silly with the kids! RT @JayBilly2: A2: My love for fitness and movement. We will always be moving and shaking and maybe even dancing (because when I dance, it's funny). #tlap

Q2: Creative Alchemy started #DBC50Summer. I wanted to read the @dbc_inc books on my shelf, needed to blog more, and hoped to get some great ideas for the new school year! What outside passions/interests will you bring into your classroom? #tlap

Q3: My journey in #DBC50Summer has rocked my world & changed my perspective! Which @dbc_inc book(s) have impacted you the most? How? Feel free to share a meaningful quote from the book, too! #tlap
#tlap A2 Have been fortunate to have live speakers: Brad Long, Buddy from the movie Hoosiers, Philo Barnhart, creator of Ariel from The Little Mermaid and Kyle Cook of Matchbox 20 share with our students.
A3 - Teach like a pirate. While it’s been mentioned frequently, the idea of “hooks” can’t ever be lost in a classroom. Students need to be inspired and in awe of the learning and instruction. How we design and perform our job is a key for students to truly love school. #tlap
A2. A diverse range in talents from science, writing, reading, reseacching, working in indusrry to bring to the table different forms and types of problem solving, curiosity driven material! #tlap

A2: My passion for road trips/travel finds its way into my classroom continually through stories, pictures, read alouds, and more!! For my young learners it helps them realize how BIG the world is and that the places we’re learning about are REAL places you can truly visit! #tlap

#tlap A3 #tlap impacted me the most. I started teaching in 1990. While reading the book I thought, I DO ALL OF THIS! It inspired me to put together my writings and finish my 1st book. It's all about making kids #BELIEVE
A3: There are so many I've learned from. It started with #tlap but every book has changed and improved my practice and made me better. Here are a few quotes from #tlap and #LeadLAP that I love
A3: #Path2Serendipity impacted me the most so far because @AllysonApsey reminded me that it is important to be real, vulnerable, and aware of my needs and the needs of others in order to try to make interactions helpful and meaningful. #TLAP
A3: this is a very difficult voice but the @dbc_inc books reignited my passion after o got burn out in 2014. Most have been the main pirate books #KidsDeserveIt books and #bethewildcard showing me to go for it! #tlap
A3 I have to start with #tlap—it reaffirmed my true self. There are so many after that but most likely #REALedu because it spoke to my heart and helped me process my tough year last year. Then #XPLAP because it’s going to be a big part as I gamify this year. @dbc_inc is amazing!
Q3: My journey in #DBC50Summer has rocked my world & changed my perspective! Which @dbc_inc book(s) have impacted you the most? How? Feel free to share a meaningful quote from the book, too! #tlap
A3: I'm a rookie and diving into educational books in the past year has been a focus of mine.(taking recommendations!) Teach like a pirate started that drive. #tlap
A3) Ummmmm really?! Have to pick just one?! I think each book(this ones I read so far)that captives me most are the ones that connect with where I am as an educator or where I aspire to go/know. In that regards Learn Like a Pirate is my pick as I relinquish more to the Ss #tlap
A3: They are all amazing but #leadlap and #culturize stand out as changing the direction of our schools, staff and students! Having the chance to meet @casas_jimmy is something I will never forget. Thank you to all the amazing @dbc_inc authors! #tlap
A3: #learnLAP#tlap#ditchbook have impacted me the most. They helped me realize that teaching and learning are and should be fun. Create a great experience for ALL students.
A3: TLAP started my journey and helped me find this group. I would love recommendations for others that will help my journey in the special ed world (though I know they’re all amazing!) #tlap
A3: #KidsDeserveit was the 1st @dbc_inc book I read & it transformed my outlook on teaching! Additionally, it introduced me to an AMAZING community of educators... many of whom I’ve been blessed to meet in person! So thankful for @mradamwelcome & @TechNinjaTodd! #tlap
A3: I just discovered the treasures hidden in @dbc_inc books this year. I love them each for different reasons #KidsDeserveIt#BeTheOne help remind us about our reason why, #Culturize helps us reflect on what we’re doing, #zenteacher & #teachermyth helped me reflect on me #TLAP
Q3: My journey in #DBC50Summer has rocked my world & changed my perspective! Which @dbc_inc book(s) have impacted you the most? How? Feel free to share a meaningful quote from the book, too! #tlap
#tlap HOW? This is an impossible question. It's like picking a favorite child. #Leadlap started by whole journey of @dbc_inc books, so if I had to pick, that would be the one. "You have to be intentional and prioritize the most important work."
Q3: My journey in #DBC50Summer has rocked my world & changed my perspective! Which @dbc_inc book(s) have impacted you the most? How? Feel free to share a meaningful quote from the book, too! #tlap
A3: It all started with #KidsDeserveIt! Thanks @mradamwelcome and @TechNinjaTodd. I truly loved the message of people deserving our best. I also love #BalanceLAP. It has revolutionized my end of summer. It’s been calm and nearly stress free once I figured out my quads. #tlap
A3: Has to be Teach like a Pirate! I read it & owned the vision. At an ed camp @capecms I went to the #tlap room to connect & learn & lead. That's where I met @leighmragsdale & our torches burned together for the first time! #tlap
A3: I can’t state enough how much the DBC, Inc books have reignited my passion for teaching. Not only has it been amazing in my classroom, but also in what and how I share with other teachers. I started w/ #tlap and then #LearnLAP, and the list goes on and on! Thank you!! #tlap
A3: This is an easy 1 hands down #KidsDeserveIt by @mradamwelcome & @TechNinjaTodd can't find the exact quote but it said, there are Ss who go through the whole day & never once hear an adult say their name in a positive way. I greet each Ss with a Good morning & their name
#tlap
A3: OMG! There are so many great choices here! I have to go with the Captain @burgessdave and #tlap. Reading #tlap is when I realized I could be doing more in my classroom. After I met Dave in person, everything changed. #tlap
Q4: @burgessdave says in the #InnovatorsMindset foreword "inspiration without implementation is a waste"! It doesn't matter how many books we've read if we don't implement what we've learned. What will you implement from the book that impacted you most? #tlap
A3: So many DBC books have impacted me greatly but have to give a special shout out to Explore Like a Pirate author @mrmatera for making a significant impact on my EDUjourney! So much gratitude! #xplap#tlap
A3: It all started with #tlap but #LeadLap has really driven me as I work toward my Admin degree. Such a positive spin on being a supportive & effective leader. At Lewis U we focus on becoming transformative leaders. Perfect fit. Oh, and @burgess_shelley@BethHouf are amazing.
A3: Switch by the Heath Brothers, Be Real by Tara Martins, Quiet by Susan Cain... I like to watch/read interviews with music icons as I like their creative approaches... #TLAP
I say that you don't pick a favorite, lol! When people ask me for suggestions, I'm like... oooh and there's this one, oh and this one, oh and I love this one! HA! #tlap
A3 and A4: Each book has impacted me! I'm excited to see which #DBC50Summer implementation impacts my school the most! Check out my implementation plans at https://t.co/idgYVFdA0J - student social media team to TLAP day to PD changes and much more! #tlap
Q3: love all I have read! I think Joy Kirr #shiftthis really made me believe I could make changes just by doing it a step at a time.."you don't have to dive in all at once to make huge, positive changes" #tlap
#tlap. And it’s funny. When I tell people, quite energetically how much I LOVE this book, they all say, “that book is perfect for you.” Which gets me all riled up with more crazy ideas!!! #tlap
#tlap A3: #KidsDeserveIt was one of our summer book club books. The book encouraged taking risks if it will benefit the students. #culturize reinforced a lot of the little things I try to do around the school to build up the morale. It gives each of us permission to improve.
A3 My first @dbc_inc book was #KidsDeserveIt - the connections I made because of this book and being able to know I wasn’t the only one on an island were life changing. #LeadLAP was that same game changer as I entered the principalship #TLAP
Q3: My journey in #DBC50Summer has rocked my world & changed my perspective! Which @dbc_inc book(s) have impacted you the most? How? Feel free to share a meaningful quote from the book, too! #tlap
A3.Our spoken words and the positive way we conduct ourselves can be the catalysts that can spark the change and culturize a school community that yields success for all students. @casas_jimmy#tlap
A4 - More efficient/effective learning strategies to apply in the classroom...retrieval practice, spaced practice, elaboration, concrete examples, etc.
The book is Understanding How We Learn.
#tlap

A3: Teach Like a Pirate by @burgessdave encouraged me to take incredible risks in both my personal and professional life that I will be forever grateful for. #TLAP
A4 - From the readings I’ve totally moved to a classroom of students leading the discussion. Empowering kids is one of the most powerful tools we can give to a student. Not only do they learn content, they develop leadership and the ability to think on their own. #tlap
A4: #xplap and #playlap have been the most influentialon how I build my lessons and projects with students but #runlap has been the biggest this year in helping me go for it and no excuses #tlap
A3: I’m a LeadLAP kinda gal but they are all amazing! @burgess_shelley and @BethHouf are such kind, caring educators who are true leaders! #tlap They know the true meaning of servant leader!!🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
A4: This year, I want to embrace my weirdness and quirks and teach like I'm meant to. We are all different and teach so differently - the kids see the enthusiasm and buy in the most when you are truly authentic #tlap
A3: Also the book Life, on the Line by the iconic Chef Grant Achatz... check him out on Netflix’s Chef’s Table S2.E1... creative, inspiring, and a survivor in the truest sense of the word... #TLAP
A4: living that quote each and every day. Take risks. Build relationships. Succeed or learn. Don’t conform. Be myself, regardless of the naysayers. #tlap
A3: I have a long way to go with @dbc_inc but TLAP started it all for me. I was so excited to have others like me on the ship! Then onto @DitchThatTxtbk for more revolution! #tlap
A4: I will strive to implement @burgessdave 's command to SHARE what I do with others and to strive to change lessons into EXPERIENCES while remembering that we're in the LIFE CHANGING BUSINESS! #tlap

A3: #TLAP I am on board with @AmesAngels. I loved loved loved #kidsdeserveit . What a powerful book! it really touched my heart and made me realized how much my attitude affects my kiddos.
I also love the quote you provided.

A3) We love @jedikermit's Play Like a Pirate.
"As you bring more of you into the classroom, you'll discover your energy, effectiveness, and most of all, your happiness increases" (p. 150).
#tlap
A4: "Taking the first step is the hardest part of the journey." Part III of #tlap continues to inspire me with risk-taking, stepping outside my comfort zone (constantly!), and showing others that it's ok to show a little vulnerability and not be perfect. You be YOU & just do it!
Q4: @burgessdave says in the #InnovatorsMindset foreword "inspiration without implementation is a waste"! It doesn't matter how many books we've read if we don't implement what we've learned. What will you implement from the book that impacted you most? #tlap
#tlap A4 Every day I go to work I pretend I am @ofctimallen "Tim the Toolman Taylor" with the grunts and #MorePower chants. IT WORKS! The kids LOVE IT! Check out the first minute of this video. https://t.co/6Ym6hkVZYE
A4 I always say, “Culture eats structure for lunch”. That goes hand in hand w/ the things I’ve learned reading. Relationships are the heart of culture so all of that is really what I’m working to implement in my new school this year #TLAP
Q4: @burgessdave says in the #InnovatorsMindset foreword "inspiration without implementation is a waste"! It doesn't matter how many books we've read if we don't implement what we've learned. What will you implement from the book that impacted you most? #tlap

A4: From #Culturize. My title doesn't define me as a leader, my words and actions do. I will lead and have an impact from my current location until I am called to another assignment. #tlap

A3: I have all of them on my desk at school - until they get borrowed. Then I might have to buy a new copy. Best investment plan of all time. There’s a reason those books aren’t coming back. #tlap
A4: I plan to implement #BookSnaps#classblogs and #Sketchnoting this school year with my 2nd graders. I’m also going to be more positive and try to help others in this wonderful field of education. #tlap
A3 @gcouros Innovator’s Mindset without a doubt. “Our job, sometimes, is simply to be the spark, help build confidence, and then get out of the way...When we focus on empowering learners to become leaders, they help spread ideas.” #tlap
A4: Having teachers read what students read and display it for kids to see. I have a bulletin board to show what I’m reading. Taking time to build relationships with students and staff. Be a positive force! #tlap
A4: Reading #xplap inspired me to gamify all of my classes in culinary. Now as Tech Integration Specialist I plan on taking what I’ve learned and gamifying PD! #tlap#MLmagical
A3: my favorites are #kidsdeserveit and #leadwithculture I’ve read so many that impacted me but these two have shaped my themes for the past two years with staff #tlap
A4: I want to try even more of @burgessdave ‘s hooks this year. I want my Ss to always be wanting more and excited to come to my class and not just be there because they have to be there. #tlap
A4: I’m going to implement time to reflect for myself, not allowing myths to defeat my positive attitude or drive, opportunities to connect with & be there for ALL Ss, ways that I can be responsible in improving the culture in my building #TLAP
Q4: @burgessdave says in the #InnovatorsMindset foreword "inspiration without implementation is a waste"! It doesn't matter how many books we've read if we don't implement what we've learned. What will you implement from the book that impacted you most? #tlap
A4: Just today, I thought through my three choices during a stressful moment. It helped SO much. I absolutely love hearing @AllysonApsey’s voice in my head when I need to breathe and think through the situation(s) I am in at the moment. #TLAP#Path2Serendipity
A4: I always have these big ideas but was always worried they'd flop. So grateful for all the people who inspire change for the sake of the students' and know there is a better way. We must make sure they all know they matter. Working towards that with everything I do #tlap
A4 Embracing my genuine self #tlap and being REAL @TaraMartinEDU all the time. I will really be implementing #xplap and starting some #shiftthis that I haven’t already started
Q4: @burgessdave says in the #InnovatorsMindset foreword "inspiration without implementation is a waste"! It doesn't matter how many books we've read if we don't implement what we've learned. What will you implement from the book that impacted you most? #tlap
Right! I ran out of characters but I really wanted to write out how some of my actual friendships in life outside of just being part of my PLN formed out of that. #tlap
A4: in the classroom it was the confidence to take risks when I knew I was doing what was best for kids. Now, it is trying to figure out how to do the same thing for Ts so they can feel confident to do that for their Ss #tlap
A4: When I think about @dbc_inc books, what stands out to me is not one thing I want to implement but a shift in mindset. I have found I am approaching education and people differently. I am looking for ways to come alongside others and make a difference. #tlap
A4: Continue focusing on positive relationships, help students discover themselves and their sense of creativity, and help them reach goals by helping them discover the emotional benefit of achievement... #TLAP

A4: After reading #tlap in 2013 and then seeing @burgessdave I decided that I was no longer going to hold back. I was going to have fun at school and share my joy instead of holding it in. I thought I had to act above it. #tlap change my life and that of the students and staff
A3/A4: One of my stretch texts for the summer was @aaron_hogan's SHATTERING THE PERFECT TEACHER MYTH. The book came at the right time. Right reader. Using this title for two questions (maybe three). This is an internal and external "disruption." Starts with me. Inside me. #tlap
A4: Start With Why by @simonsinek. I make sure I know my Why for every activity. And embracing failure as the first step to success from Mindset by Dweck. Being more intentional about affirming effort not results. #tlap

A4) I’m going to challenge the quote. Yes inspiration isn’t enough; however, inspiration is +energy which attracts more +energy. It becomes something at some point, it shifts us - steers us, we take action which we may not even be cognizant of it @burgessdave#tlap
Jay, you are truly a wonderful ambassador of the #tlap and #LeadLAP message! So honored to have you join the @dbc_inc family of authors with Lead With Culture this year!
A4: I am going to try to expand beyond just the Ss I directly teach and say hello to all the Ss I interact with through Back on Track, Step Up and Ski Club by name. Expand the positive influence.
#tlap
A5: I blog at https://t.co/5lWx2NLTvo and share my posts with Ss to show how many people they can possibly reach with their words. We share our Kindness Passion Projects on https://t.co/KZB8a7T54F, gratitude posts on Padlet, and capture kindness w/Seesaw blog! #tlap

A5: For starters, I'm setting up a writing mentoring program using one platform & Ss from these fab Ts: @LeachTeach4@taenos99 which means my MO sophomores will mentor Rhode Island 8th graders while being mentored by seniors from Oregon! Boom! #tlap
#tlap A5 Continue our cultural conversations. Last year spoke with a class in Argentina 🇦🇷 over the issue of gender inequality & a class in Monterrey Mexico 🇲🇽 over current issues. Ss developed questions and shared answers with their peers. Interesting to learn new views.
A5: Our students will consider the documentary, AMERICAN CREED this week. Then, we'll begin year-long multigenre exploration of our "creed" responding to one of the five questions posed by the film to students. We'll be sharing out some of the standout pieces from our work. #tlap
A5: I'm beginning to look into creating a podcast regarding different locations around the world and people who have been there. I want the kids to see and hear from people who have seen the world! This would also be a wonderful tool for self reflection. #tlap
A4: My pirate mission statement: I will remember that it takes a “team” who cares for and supports each other in order to reach the treasure chest: successful, happy students and teachers! #tlap
A5 As a principal my S’s are often the T’s of my building. My new school has very few T’s who are connected using SM or blogging. My hope is that I am encouraging them to take that leap and find and/or share their voice as they are all so great #TLAP

We're going to use a few different platforms as a group and see how it goes. Figure it will be fun for my sophomores to assist 8th graders and then get the same help from seniors. We'll see how it works, anyway! Diving in! #tlap

A5: I don't work directly w/Ss, but I am going to give them a voice when I visit schools through @Flipgrid. I am also hopeful to find T @julie_fishburn (hint, hint) @abigail_crane (hint, hint), @MrsHuntONW (hint, hint) that want 2 start a District-Wide podcast w/Ss. #tlap

Exceptional ways to give authentic audiences to students! You pirates are incredible! I love being in a crew with you!
Q6 will be here in a moment! #tlap
A5: My students authentic audience comes from the one-on-one grading sessions they have with me, class interactions, @Flipgrid, and our Instagram page. Students share their ideas, ask questions, and interact with our content while getting to know each other. #TLAP
A5) I’m not sure yet, still mulling this around. I have given students a live audience for major capstones like debates in front of parents & admin & a class of younger students. Made a big difference in quality of work #tlap
A5: My Ss will utilize @Flipgrid & @Seesaw to share their voice & learning!! They will connect w/ their classmates & with their #digitalpenpals through our #globalcollaboration learning challenges!! Can’t wait to encourage my Ss to share their story & learning with others! #tlap
#tlap When I taught 8th grade math I posted my self made post cards from all ove the USA and had my Ss write math problems about the places they were studying about in their US History class.
Q6: Fear of failing to reach my goal of reading the first 50 books by the end of summer weighs on my mind, but it's not stopping me! Pirates are risk-takers, rebels, mavericks! Tell about a time that failure created an opportunity for growth! What did you learn? #tlap
A5 Ss are taking control of our social media and telling the #peinepride story their way. Ts are connecting with others through writing and social media and we have community members coming in for amazing shake and other events for Ss to show their skills #tlap
A5: My Ss present their research papers that work on for a quarter to the 6th graders, teachers and community members in a conference style - ROCK-IT Conference.
#tlap
A5 Opportunites to share their product/learning both in class and out—started a classroom Twitter account(need to start other social media as well). I also made a commitment to blogging and reflecting (https://t.co/4jRgKZ0dDv) to better serve my students/be accountable. #tlap

A5: I want to start up my school twitter again @mrsachtman to share my students’ experiences. Want to start blogging myself again-have to encourage myself that my ideas and reflections are beneficial to others #tlap
A6: my #dissertation delay allowed me to really look into bettering myself in learning and teaching and drove me to do better and complete it the right way instead of rush to the end #tlap
A5: Going to a 1:1 school, I’m excited to learn about new apps and see how students can interact with others and use tech for educational purposes (not just rewards!) #tlap
A1: I will disrupt my fellow teachers fears--I did not think I could do Twitter--now look at me! Thanks @Ms_Shovlin_DASD! I have been creating quick tutorials for staff and students showing them how to use the tech we have to enrich their learning environments and to grow! #TLAP
A5: The I in PIRATE is "Immersion" - I try to get to know each student and make time to sit with them, learn with them, smile with them, and listen to them. It's all about being totally in #tlap
A6: I touched on failure in my latest blog post: https://t.co/srd4F4wrS6 - we can't allow failure to define us; rather, use that rock to climb even higher after you regain your footing! #tlap#edchat#amwriting
A6 when I interviewed for a position and was not selected- I had a choice - complain or get better. I chose door #2 and still try to get better daily. I learned that it was up to me to improve - that is where I found my PLN. #tlap
Q6: Fear of failing to reach my goal of reading the first 50 books by the end of summer weighs on my mind, but it's not stopping me! Pirates are risk-takers, rebels, mavericks! Tell about a time that failure created an opportunity for growth! What did you learn? #tlap
For sure! I'm totally going for the summer season! I would've made it by today if I hadn't been traveling and then the little hospital stay with our youngest daughter. Only 15 books left to round out the 50 - but not stopping there! #tlap
The ability for the students to publish their works, share with other students anywhere in the world is what makes apps like this amazing! Who knows, maybe one of your Ss publishes everyone else’s work & shares w/ the world! #NextDaveBurgess#tlap

#tlap A6 Teaching a class of over a dozen 16 year old 8th graders is tough. You say things you shouldn't. Lesson learned... DON'T EVER EVER GIVE UP ON YOUR STUDENTS! Be positive ALL THE TIME! YOU WILL IMPACT THEM! It may not take place in the year you teach them. Plant the seeds.
A6: we tried a salt dough activity with K Ss. It didn’t just flop, it tanked. It taught me to prepare, that hands on learning deserves time, and that even though it was an awful mess we all took something from it. (Ss realized soupy dough won’t let you build up) #tlap
A6: There are lots of these! I think of some of my failures with technology and how my students help me through them! 😂 True story! I keep trying though and model a growth mindset! We are all in this together. #tlap
A6: When I First started with 1:1 Chromebooks, it wasn’t the easiest, but I knew I needed to take that risk to allow my Ss to connect on a regular basis with our partner school in France. Those first couple of Google Hangouts were rough, but we made it and soon thrived #tlap
Great question! Definitely have an open discussion and find out what their fears are for locking it down! If needed, create your own, then have Ss write content in Drive, copy and paste into blog with Ss initials. #tlap
A5: Would love to document with video our potential journey into project-based learning. It would be great to see the progress made and the struggles that we will overcome! #tlap
Jetting our early bc I have a personal goal this year to #RunLAP and getting up at 4:45am takes effort! @iluveducating you rock my friend! #tlap crew, hope to see you tomorrow night for champforkids and Wed night for #KidsDeserveIt, can’t wait to moderate!
A6: I had the idea of creating interviews last year with people who had traveled to different countries for the students to view. However, with new curriculum and my first time teaching a course, it wasn't time yet. This taught me patience and that I can't do everything. #tlap
A4: So true, and such a simple piece of wisdom! do not be afraid to cannonball right in! Do not fear the failure--instead relish in the success of trying something new! If I can do it, then you can do it too!
#tlap
A6 When I graduated I kept applying for AP jobs & got called for 0 interviews; Felt like a failure. I tossed my name in for a principal job, got called & ended up being named principal of my 1st school after that. I felt like a failure a lot but have grown more throughout #TLAP

A3: Twitter connected me to the bks I read last yr & so many amazing people! I read Kids Deserve It, Teach Like a Pirate, Learn Like a Pirate, Ditch That Textbook, The Wild Card, Launch, Empower, Innovator's Mindset, Inquiry Mindset, & Google Apps for Littles ❤️👍🏻 #tlap
A6: Been writing in my blog for about 6 months. Finally decided to share it - thought I’d read over it. After I shared on Twitter decided to go back & reread. Found 2 OBVIOUS mistakes in the first paragraph. Decided to shake it off and keep working b/c the world didn’t end #tlap
A6: Several years ago, I created a list of 100 things I wanted to do that year. At the end, I said “I only did 92” & focused on the 8 things I missed when in reality I should’ve said “LOOK AT THIS, I did 92 things I wanted to do this year!” This helped me with perspective #TLAP

A6: First year teaching was 1 year position. Little support or guidance. Following summer I decided for every fault I found with their “system” I would decide something I could have done/could do better... Caused me to grow beyond complaining... #TLAP
A6: Just today during a PD session... for Ts. It's not a good idea to okay changes to things w/ data ahead of a PD session because they might change during it. It's all about being a problem solver and solution oriented. #TLAP

I agree so much. I try to share contagious joy everyday. Not gonna lie, today, day 6, about broke me, but I’m going back at it with all I have tomorrow. Needed more pirates to hold me up today. #tlap
A4: After reading #tlap in 2013 and then seeing @burgessdave I decided that I was no longer going to hold back. I was going to have fun at school and share my joy instead of holding it in. I thought I had to act above it. #tlap change my life and that of the students and staff
Thank you so much @iluveducating for a great chat opportunity! Need to log off but will be checking back to these great questions and answers asap. #tlap
#tlap A6: Most lessons have something that falls into the didn't quite go right or failure categories. For those, keep what went well and come up with ways to make things even better the next time around.
Barely started and ideas are flowing. Instead of an intro discussion this year we are going to start with an intro selfie album! #booksnaps#tlap#backtoschoology#firstday
Q7: Call to Action - #DBC50Summer was my personal challenge to create professional growth! Being relentless this year is my implementation for #LeadLAP! I challenge you to be relentless in your own professional growth this year. Which @dbc_inc is next on your reading list? #tlap
A6. I wish I had so few failures I could pinpoint one!!! I feel I learn from my mistakes daily. I use those failures to learn and grow and then model that to the Ts and Ss in my building. I just apologized to my counselors today for being a bit crass with an approach. #tlap
A6: My whole career has been about failure and growth. Try something, fail or adjust, iterate, fix, move on. .. or as @JoyKirr says in #ShiftThis - "Keep tweeking" #tlap
A6 This past year was the toughest year of my career—I felt I failed on many levels but mostly fulfilling my “why”. That made me reflective and search out other ideas so—ON A TOTAL WHIM—I picked up #tlap@BNBuzz and it’s led the biggest growth of my 11 year career!

A6: I should be done with my doctoral dissertation already, but I’m not. Watching lots of my cohort-mates finish last year felt like a failure. But I’m sticking with it. And the lessons I learned last year about focusing on what matters will get me through this year. #tlap
Oh my goodness, Cindy, you are speaking my language! I'm constantly trying to revise my blog posts! At some point we let it go and realize the message is more important than never sharing at all! #tlap
A6: Failure to grade essays in a reasonable amount of time made me rethink my grading procedures. My survival needs inspired a much better system! My new procedures not only help me grade more quickly, but I am also able to provide more meaningful and structured feedback! #TLAP

A6 Totally flopped the delivery of my 1st #REALedu. Humbling but fuel to my fire to get stronger&share my heart’s message with clarity.
With valuable feedback from @burgessdave & @burgess_shelley) + personal tweaks & I’m now influencing EDUs to Be REAL❤️. #NotAQuitter#tlap
A6: Pirates are risk-takers, rebels, mavericks! Tell about a time that failure created an opportunity for growth! I F.A.I.L (first attempt in learning) every day and every day I choose to get back up and try again. #tlap

A5. One exeriment the Ss did. The candy didn't react the way it was supposed to! The reaction was seen for about five seconds, then turned into a big grey mess! #tlap
A7: I am *patiently* waiting for Make Learning Magical by @tishrich - I just know this book is going to be amazing! Can't wait to have it in my hands with a highlighter! #MLMagical#tlap

A6: I have different failures throughout the day. That’s why reflection is so very important. I look at each day and see where my weaknesses were. I try to make each day better than the day before. I’m always learning and taking risks for my Ss to succeed #TLAP

A7: Outside of school, I take care of myself with yoga a few days a week. Mindfulness = so important. The Zen Teacher has been recommended to me and I'm definitely interested in it #tlap
A6 “Failure” creates an opportunity for growth when we use accurate, growth oriented terms to talk about what’s next instead of what happened. “You showed me you acquired the skill. Now let’s work to get fluent,” instead of “You got 25% right.” #tlap
A7: I’m sad I missedmost of #tlap tonight but looking forward to digging into @alicekeeler’s teaching math w Google apps before headed back to school in a few days
A7 I have a bunch that are arriving Wednesday by I’m going with #ShiftThis by @JoyKirr first. Iread #LearnLAP by @PaulSolarz (so incredible and inspired a lot in me) and I think all 3 of us have a similar mindset and aspirations for our Ss. #tlap
I hear it in my head... watched way too many YouTube vids and heard way too many #tlap podcasts, lol! If that's even possible. I can quote it with Dave now. LOL!
6) We don’t learn from failure. We learn from the feedback we receive from failure.
If you want to learn you have to be willing to fail hard and listen harder. I take pride in being a great failure #BoldHumility#tlap

A7 My next @dbc_inc book is The Four O’Clock Faculty. It’s been on my shelf for a while now. I’m also getting ready to start a #KidsDeserveIt book study w/ my new staff. Look out for my email and order @wenders88#tlap
