Tonight we are asking for your help! We want to talk about the things that you want to know about, so send us a question in DM and we might use it! #moedchat
Love summer! I'm flying to Denver in the a.m. courtesy of Student Achievement Partners. Next week CPM training. Nothing like a long summer break! #moedchat
A1: I think make the app include ads, so the ads pay for everything. In the light of everything Internet, don't we pay hidden fees for Internet. I mean really it runs on the same principle as TV and phone reception. #moedchat
A1: Freemium apps serve a great purpose in education. We need to make sure we only purchase those that we can increase the relevance for our students with. It needs to make a positive impact on thier learning and most free apps can do that. #moedchat
It presents sort of like PowerPoint but is far more flexible. I need to be able to draw & manipulate to help my Ss visualize math. I can flash images, cover with white rectangles & reveal, back and forth to embed associations. #moedchat
A2 I think they both have their strengths, a lot more available on Android, but a lot of it is freemium and can be a bit weird/difficult/buggy, iOS is catered towards EDU in respect to simplicity and more reliable but more costly #moedchat
A2 I prefer iPads for K -2 and touch screen laptops for older Ss. Cost is the biggest issue for districts so more likely Chromebooks. #MacUser#moedchat
Q2: Mac is certainly my choice, but I get what I get. Chromebook will do. There are work arounds, but iMovie is great. I believe we get app'ed out and don't stick to essentials. I don't like the fact that green screen isn't a free option online. #moedchat
You just inspired me to search for free TI-84 on iOS and there is finally such a thing. There's been one for android for several yrs & have had to buy TI loaners for iOS users to maintain equity. #moedchat
#moedchat A2: It is funny. I just had this discussion with one of my classes. It seems many students flip back and forth as well. They are often more flexible than Ts.
My own children have their own and they love it with the Unlimited FreeTime, but I was just wondering if anyone uses that in their classes. I think we have a kindergarten teacher that does, but I don’t know how effective it is. #MOedchat
In the past most Ss were good about returning them but 20 have not yet been returned this yr & I am not optimisticI will get them all back. Next yr I will send out a link! #moedchat
I wholeheartedly agree with this, but I'd also suggest that we not limit the devices available to students either by type or grade level. The product should dictate what they use (and let them choose). #moedchat
Yes, at home they are fantastic. I would be curious to hear if anyone else is having success with use in classrooms. I used to use them in my classroom in small group reading and for an incentive. In comparison to other options for school, it just seemed to lack. #MOedchat
A3 I might have an unpopular answer here, but I would first look at how much time they are on the computer for, and what they are using it for. I like PBL that has many hands on with much less tech. #moedchat
A2)
Android..all day. iOS is so overrated. It has become much more compatible with programs in the last 3-5 years. #moedchat
I am not sure if this is accurate, but I have a student from STL and he mentioned that his St. Louis schools always had Apple...but it was very costly!
A3 We haven’t experienced much of this view in our district but I think we have to share the research with them about how quickly the world is evolving draw comparisons with how far tech has come in their lifetime. #MOedchat
A2 We use iPads in K-8, so creative and camera app and airdrop along with iMovie allow us to do things quickly and easily. Chromebooks are great, but in a different way. Don't see it as either or. #moedchat

#moedchat Q3: create a Google form and ask for feedback from them? Seriously, they may be correct. I have students with the same concern. They often rather read a hard copy of a primary source than digitized.
I have 25 Kindle Fires in my classroom. I teach math, so when they finish their lessons they use them for IXL or other math games and activities. We have been busy w/the big T, so we haven't used them much lately. #MOedchat
A3b we need to have candid discussions about why we have chosen to use technology. We need to demonstrate, share and include parents in the process from the start and continue to do so #MOedchat
A3c we also need to express that technology and computers are a tool not a distraction and we must use and share best practices with students and parents #MOedchat
A3: I seriously have had some parents not understand that students are learning grammar and English conventions using a computer. I am going to email all parents a list of my assignments from the year along with the MLS. The Ss even believe grammar is a worksheet. #moedchat
I was listening to girls in a 7th grade small group at church Sunday and they were talking about how their phones keep them up late at night. They have really conscientious parents so i was taken back by that. #MOedchat
A3: you need to be ready with the research to back up your use of tech in the classroom. There is no substitute for a T, but technology, if used purposefully, can be very powerful #moedchat
It's fascinating they noted Ss who spent more time on homework were less likely to be depressed! How does that square with the anti-hw movement? #moedchat

I help ppl in my building with tech stuff all the time because I’m that guy. I have to know all the platforms, it is real life if you want to be tech #MOedchat
A4 open lines of communication are huge use technology to keep them connected to the classroom, invite them to be a part of what is going on. Find out their passions and strengths and ask them to share them with your classes when possible #MOedchat
A4: I ❤️ parents. My experience has been that too many are far removed until something goes wrong. I would happily have 10+ phone calls per day over the disgruntled parent at the end of the year. #moedchat
A3: validate their concerns. Then show them how the projects the students are using computers for are going beyond what could be accomplished by paper and pencil. If you can’t share this, the parents might have a point #MOedchat
Q4 I just had one of my parents come speak to my students about the importance of bees and butterflies as pollinators. I am trying to bring in professional women (moms) as role models of STEM leaders to influence the young girls I teach #moedchat
Understanding the various platforms and the benefits of each is powerful. Learning to think around the problem and how to move between platforms to best solve it, is definitely critical thinking. #moedchat
I used to use MovieMaker a long time ago. It was a game-changer because before that you needed actual software from a CD and rendering took FOREVER! #moedchat
I identify parallel thinking processes between algebra & careers. It's always a plus to find out one of the parents is employed in that field. #moedchat
I feel very fortunate to be able to expose our students to both iOS and Android, too. Both are have strengths and weaknesses depending on the end goals. #moedchat
A5: Google drawings. It's wide open with infographic design. I love CoSpaces and Bloxels. I just need parents to 'get' it. In five years, their kids will be applying for college through a self made video. #moedchat
a4 My fav is Peardeck for presenting interactively at conferences as well as working with Ss. Final exam reviews were a lot of fun & productive: https://t.co/yI0GpUggt1#moedchat
Show them how the work you are doing is more than the technology. Once you can prove that the learning is deep and engaging, it shouldn't matter how you get there. For those who are still critical, let them experience how much more can be accomplished using the tech. #moedchat
A5: got to be honest, have not tried many apps. As a SpEd Math T I tend to focus on manipulatives and visual representation. Probably could be done through apps to some extent, but I want my Ss to be hands on. #moedchat
A5c @SpheroEdu is my favorite for robots and programming because there is so much you can do beyond just driving a robot and it is tiered to meet the kids needs with programming #MOedchat
Why are they allowed to sleep with their phones? Park them in parent's room. Get a good night's sleep. Everything will be there in the morning. #moedchat
