#Edtechchat focuses on Education Technology. Co-founder Tom Murray says #edtechchat "connects us professionally with inspiring educators from all over the world, all of who encourage us to be better every day for the children and families we serve.”
Hi all! I’m a Technology Director at a PK-8 Catholic School in Brunswick, Ohio who gets the great opportunity to teach some classes and run some extra curricular clubs in between!#edtechchat
A1: I go to several places to grow myself in EdTech...Twitter, Literature, Podcasts, Conferences, and meeting/chatting with my PLN online ad in person (when I am lucky)
#edtechchat
A1: I’m super interested I hear all of the ideas that y’all have to share for this question! I think #edtech can be super useful! #edtechchat#Sp19edfb4338
Hey #edtechchat! So excited that trough Twitter we can collaborate and exchange ideas from all over the world. I’m excited to share my thoughts from Iowa tonight!
Well I actually just use the internet to find what I need to learn and I read. I wish I had a good location or source for my edtech needs. However, I've always been a technology person. But hate to say i don't like this tweet but I'm trying •#edtechchat
#1 my PLN! I also attend @OhioEdTech conference every year, I also have started to work with @OSLN on projects, I’m hoping to attend @iste one day! #EdTechChat
A1 Well I actually just use the internet to find what I need to learn and I read. I wish I had a good location or source for my edtech needs. However, I've always been a technology person. But hate to say i don't like this tweet but I'm trying •#edtechchat
A1: I just took a course called Educational Technology that informed me of great resources such Voicethread, Blogpost, TedTalk and many more. These websites are great places to find information and also create sources for users and students. #edtechchat
Today I attended my district conference on ed tech. We had our own teachers and outside consultants covering a wide range of topics and tools. #edtechchat#vanedtech#boldschoolbadging
A1: Hands down I use Twitter to grow myself in EdTech! I gain ideas and resources, dabble in all of the ideas I find so that I can share them with the Ts in my building. I love that I’m co-teaching the ideas I learn on Twitter. #edtechchat
A1 To grow myself in EdTech the obvious start is right here #edtechchat However, I always tried to teach myself tech things. Our Teach Thyself Pages https://t.co/FsBu0oicRF Don't be afraid to test drive tech tools and to ask your students for tech help. https://t.co/sgULo25AgO
A1: I just took a course called Educational Technology that informed me of great resources such Voicethread, Blogpost, TedTalk and many more. These websites are great places to find information and also create sources for users and students. #edtechchat
A1) Hello, I am currently going through the ITEC 2360 at Gillette college and the start of my EdTech education had been through Twitter, Instagram and the course I am enrolled in.#newatThistwitterthing#edtechchat#gcitech2360
Jen from NJ here. Love Twitter & FB groups to grow my PLN, through chats like this & following prof organizations, edtech leaders & innovative teachers. Also a member of several ISTE PLNs and locally work w/ people like @ajpodchaski and #NJAIS. Alex, get some rest! #EdTechChat
Q1: As a preservice teacher, I’m just beginning to learn about all the technology in education, so Twitter, Pinterest, and class are my favorite options. #edtechchat
This is my first night engaged with edtech, the initial response, I see the benefit of widening my network to learn various apps that can help engage my students. As well, if I can impart technology we’re using that can help someone, I’m game #edtechchat
A great way for personal growth in EdTech is by Teaching Yourself. Don't be afraid to test drive tech tools. Our Teach Thyself Pages https://t.co/FsBu0o0Bt5 “Adapt what is useful, reject what is useless, and add what is specifically your own.” Bruce Lee #edtechchat
A2 For me it has a couple of main purposes. 1) Advocate best practices such as active learning and the use of OER. 2) Understand the mental model of other educators, esp in K-12 where I don't interact all that often. #EdTechChat
A2: I see the value that we are all gaining and learning so much about a topic in such a short time for a tweet chat. Tweet chats helps users interact with other people in similar industries. #edtechchat
Q2 This is my first twitter chat but I see a lot of value in this. I am connecting with like minded educators that want to learn more about ed tech. This is a great resource! #edtechchat#LUlearns
A2: getting ideas, examining diff perspectives, growing your #PLN and exploring how diff districts and countries approach teaching and learning #edtechchat
A2: Is it bad to admit that I have approximately 4 chats/day on my calendar so that I get notifications? My colleagues that see my calendar sometimes give me a hard time, but the learning each time in SO valuable! Constantly learning from the couch! #edtechchat
A2: Twitter chats have grown my knowledge on so many aspects but it also has helped me stay current on new and latest tech! I’ve also been able to connect with so many new individuals with similar passions in Education! #EdTechChat
A2: it’s so fun and interesting I learn from so many other educators. And it’s a great way to find resources and ideas to actually apply to the classroom! #edtechchat#Sp19edfb4338
A2- I love Twitter Chats! I’ve discovered them over the past couple years (late to the party) and it’s a great way to see what other people are doing, gauge consensus and opinion, recieve feedback, get new ideas and enjoy a laugh or two! ##edtechchat
A2 twitter chats breakdown the silos that you have in your school or district. Give you a different lens about what is happening. Also allows you to collaborate with others on new ideas #EdTechChat
A2: Twitter chats are valuable to me for two reasons...One, connecting with other educators (our BEST resource) and Two, the sharing of resources (i've had some amazing opportunities have come my way)
#edtechchat
A2 Well I can see where it could be of great value if it was a little easier to follow. The responses don't come in order so you have to scroll down through in some cases weeks worth of responses to find replies. However, I do see some good resources listed. •#edtechchat
A2. Twitter chats provide collaborations/connections and often links or ideas. Not every one, every time. Often mixes admins & teachers in problem solving.
#edtechchat
A2: When I discovered Twitter could be a great tool for building my PLN, I use it so much now! Twitter has many great ed. hashtags (like this one) that gives me insight of info. Also, learning from other users who reply on these hashtags has been of great value!#edtechchat
A2 Chats are a valuable resource. Open 24/7 for all your professional needs! It is like a library full of ideas, support, and even critical feedback if you ask for it. #edtechchat
A2: Twitter chats are an easy way to do professional development from the home, are great methods of communications, and provide a multitude of resources! #edtechchat
A2) I think that using twitter chats helps broaden the resources available to become better educator but also to be able to ask questions when in doubt #edtechchat#gcitec2360
A2: Twitter Chats allow you to connect with other educators that you may never have the opportunity to chat with otherwise! It’s a space to build relationships, hear other opinions, and think outside the box. #edtechchat
A1) Hello, I am currently going through the ITEC 2360 at Gillette college and the start of my EdTech education had been through Twitter, Instagram and the course I am enrolled in.#newatThistwitterthing#edtechchat#gcitec2360
Brian from TN checking in. Hey everyone!
A2: Perspective from all angles. My worldview, or classview, is different. You learn to appreciate and embrace differences!
#edtechchat
A3: I've done the #NotAtISTE and #NotAtDENSI and I get resources, but personally I'm not as invested or connected. Would much rather be there in person!
#edtechchat
A3 yes! Global edcamp and @DitchThatTxtbk conference- nice because I could attend/ share and follow hashtag when I needed to plug in at school, etc. #edtechchat
A3- I think the closest I have been to an online conference would be participating in #notatiste last year. However, there was so much going on I found it hard to keep up with! #edtechchat
A3 Have not had the opportunity for a full conference online. I am curious what others think about it. I was snowed out of an ed conference last week. I was co presenting and my colleagues were there while I facilitated the back channel. #edtechchat
A3: yes but the lack of "real" FTF is hard even when doing a #GHO or #Skype & when the tech wasn't working, frustrating! But still had some great conversations which led to deeper thinking. #edtechchat
A3: I’ve attended a few, including the Global Education Conference and I loved the opportunity to register and watch later if I wasn’t available! #EdTechChat
A3: I’ve done #DitchSummit. While I was so excited about the amount of resources, I didn’t have time to access everything I wanted before it ended. I love how Twitter chats provide me learning and I can check-in and out quickly if needed. #edtechchat
A3 Online single workshop but not a conference. I loved the workshop. I work in a a small rural district in Texas and it saves me a two hour drive. #edtechchat
I dig Twitter chats ... primarily because of the short bursts of information it provides. I think it feeds into my ADHD thinking ... a tweet can get me thinking and most of the time that is all I need. #edtechchat
You network virtually. I knew @Gregbagby from Twitter before I met him in person (at the infamous GaETC). #NOTATISTE is huge - w lots of ppl online & in person helping us learn.
#edtechchat
I thought the same thing, but I like it when everyone else is online too (not in person). #DitchSummit and #FallVirtCon are great ones. Stay tuned for those! Resources are there, but you are right, not necessarily connections.
#edtechchat
A3: We haven’t attended an online conference before but do follow along on Twitter with conference specific hashtags - allows you to take a peek into the event! #edtechchat
Twitter chats provide collaboration amongst like minded creatives to share ideas 💭💡
It also provides insight to strategies as well as inspiration
#EdTechChat
A3: On the flipside, I love tweeting out from conferences. It's something I can do in bursts, look back on my learning, while giving others the opportunity to see it as well. #edtechchat
A3 #Ditch Summit is fantastic! Attended in December - included chats and 1 hr. videos on variety of relevant topics from edtech thought leaders #EdTechChat
It is a jolt of energy. I leave these chats with a string of tabs open on my browser and my mind buzzing with great ideas. Conferences can learn a lot from these exchanges. The ignite sessions and “speed dating” frameworks are similar and I would love to see more. #edtechchat
A4: Pros - new knowledge, PD in your PJs, recertification points, connections to new peeps Cons - time (that is the only con I could think of!
#edtechchat#lifelonglearners
A4.1 I'm not a big fan of webinars. If I am at work, I can't ever get the time to focus on the webinar. It is to easy to simply open up another tab and start doing something else. #edtechchat
A4: Pros- Can be on the site while the Webinar is happening. More people are able to be included. Cons-The face-to-face interactions are slim. The Webinar may move faster than an attendant may be able to process the content. #edtechchat
Haven't done an online conference but many online PD sessions and classes. However personally don't think I would like a conference on line. There is something about physically being at a location and walking around that makes the experience. •#edtechchat
I have never made it all the way through any webinar ... i usually have other windows open so I can do something else ... or I have found a similar article/blog and read that instead. #edtechchat
A4: pros: choice, can watch recording. Cons: sometimes too long, too much time spent in introductory part, have to wait to get link to recording skmetkmes. #EdTechChat
A4 Can attend the webinar live or view recording, convenient, can interact, be at home or wherever, cons are you lack that F2F interaction or chance for more conversations #edtechchat
Often times it’s great to fit it into@your schedule when you still need to be at school,
Downside is it’s easy to disengage and not take anything away #edtechchat
A4.2 Though I do like that you can have a wide variety of experiences via a webinar that you would not be able to get if you had to physically attend. #edtechchat
A4: bring ppl from diff regions together but time zones can be an issue; learning from global community, don't have to go anywhere (sit in your PJs at home), sometimes hard to ask Qs so it's best if there is someone tracking Qs. #edtechchat
A4. Pros with Webinars are being able to watch when you have time. No travel.
Cons: Limited to no interaction/ feedback.
Not sure it's better than instructional YouTube.
#edtechchat
A4- Webinars are great because you can attend a class or topic with subject matter experts without needing to travel. The downside is sometimes they can be impersonal or disconnected and can be listen-only learning instead of being interactive. (Not always the case) #edtechchat
A4) I have not attended one but as with anything I am sure it has both. I am interested to see the responses of what others have found the prons and cons to be. #EdTechChat#gcitec2360
A4: I’m not familiar with Webinar but I could imagine a pro would be it’s adaptable to all learning styles and presents new content; a con could be that it’s live so things could go wrong technological or in person. #edtechchat
Reform Symposium back in the day (2010-2012 ish??) really influenced my learning. Was one of my first workshops presented virtually. I’ve participated in a few that Google has offered. Flexibility, providing archived sessions, and collaborative spaces are key. #edtechchat
Very true. Webinars at work become the lowest priority. Sometimes I even just run them in the background but get nothing from them. Or, I sign up with hopes I get the recording then never remember to watch it... #edtechchat
A4b Not driving to be too much @DiscoveryEd here, but we offer interactive courses if you have any of our resources!
https://t.co/BR64xNL5g6
They are about an hour long and so, so, so valuable!
#edtechchat
Q1: What are some ideas to incorporate technology in the classroom, particularly first grade, other than chrome books, laptops and tablets? #firstgradesteamrocks#edtechchat
A4 webinars can offer a wide range of topics but technical difficulties can interrupt and there can be a lack of interpersonal relationships. #edtechchat
A4: We ❤️ webinars for the ease of connecting with folks from around the globe quickly. However, tech can be spotty for some and depending on comfort level, people may rather listen than chat. #edtechchat
I remember back in the 80's I used to attend a lot of military training via "distance learning", It kind of worked because there was a whole room of people. I wonder if that would work for a webinar? #edtechchat
Using more tools like @nearpod offers for in-class sessions would be great. I want to be involved and active, not just passive in learning. #edtechchat
I remember back in the 80's I used to attend a lot of military training via "distance learning", It kind of worked because there was a whole room of people. I wonder if that would work for a webinar? #edtechchat
Pros =broad network, little expense for travel, accessibility, Cons = I thrive being able to talk and engage with others, strengthens my trust and understanding of them, which allows for stronger exchange of information #edtechchat
Do we have to? I think what we do is learn from it as edus. How can we make it more interactive and feel invested- things we should be asking ourselves all the time anyways. #edtechchat
Interaction / feedback are necessary to prevent it being a "sage on the stage" lecture. It can be broken up like an online class to allow students to interact w each & then back to class
#edtechchat
Great question and idea. Maybe even just plan it with other nearby schools or friends. Maybe someone has a great thing they do that could be shared and expounded upon!!! #edtechchat
A2) Peeking into #EdTechChat and just have to say ...
Chats have changed my professional identity, as someone who's now part of a learning community of various roles. Nothing else has quite compared.
We stayed focused, but it also helped with interaction, During breaks we could ask each other questions, and get some human interaction, that we couldn't get from the presenter on the screen. #edtechchat

Great idea! The exchange of ideas becomes more relational. With nearpod, participants slides/ideas are pushed back out. It could be any platform though. Voice matters! #edtechchat
Q5: Again, I haven’t tried any as of yet. However, as I continue to grow in librarianship, I know courses like these will help me immensely. #edtechchat
A5 A couple of the Harvard and one MIT. They are really interesting. Its tough becuase of the engagement factor but you really own the learning. #EdTechChat
A4 Pros: Easy to attend, no problems seeing or hearing the presentations Cons: depending on the size of the group you can get lost in the crowd. •#edtechchat
A5.1 I actually have tried multiple MOOCS. I liked the concept, but the way the material was presented, didn't work for me. I think out of the 5 I have started, I actually completed one. #edtechchat
Better webinar - if you want real discussion, small group <10 video chats would be prime. Or if sharing lots of info is desired, current format is good. #edtechchat
A4c webinar and Twitter chat simultaneously- add in VR when doable. If we can watch a game with a friend half way across a continent - and virtually sit beside them...then #EdTechChat
Working on similar skills with my elem Ss. We focus on using symbols and metaphors to spark the presentation. After the presentation we debrief that content and the presentation. #edtechchat
A5) Had to use google to know what MOOC is. I was unaware that they were available but they sound like a great opportunity.#MOOCwhat#EdTechChat#gcitec2360
A5- the idea of microcredentials are not going anywhere, which makes MOOCs such a valuable resource (certifications without degrees). I am curious to see if anyone views them in that light, or if there were smaller classes you've completed #edtechchat
For me it did, yes! Some other people I know who’ve tried it did not stick with it; either from lack of interest or didn’t find it beneficial for their learning needs. #edtechchat
That is actually a neat idea! No one seems to ever really use the comment sections on a webinar. Keeping twitter going at the same time, would keep me engaged enough to not worry about work #edtechchat
A6 An EdTech degree gives me experience with tools that improve my instruction and allows me to share what I know with other educators. #edtechchat#LUlearns
A6: Got my EdTech degree last year. If you want a tech integration position, it helps to have the degree. I can't honestly say it has helped me greatly. I enjoyed most of the classes. It is a title (hoop to jump thru)
#edtechchat
I have compleated a few. But, the overwhelming majority of the time I am not interested in the entire content, but only one segment. Something new, something I want to review, or something that changed since I last studied it. #EdTechChat
A6: I think a pro would be presenting the newest educational content for upcoming students; I think a con would be it’s one-dimensional meaning that’s all you could teach. That’s an assumption, though! Not sure! #edtechchat
A6 Hum... Being a great teacher doesn't always come w/ the degree you get. Using tech to lift Ss and student learning and also supporting colleagues. It is easy to assume a lot about the programs. Must, as we all should, keep learning. Tech is constantly changing. #EdTechChat
A6: I could see a benefit for being more knowledgeable about technologies that will influence education in the future. I could also understand if the technology progresses in ways that the degree may not necessarily prepare us for. #edtechchat
A6) If you are going to do any work in Higher Ed you need a terminal degree. I have done some Adjunct but I would not get a full time gig without one... Just told this last month. #EdTechChat
A6 pro-opens door to possibilities and equips you for edtech roles. Con- my state doesn’t recognize it for certification therefore it feels lost in many school systems. #edtechchat
This is my first Twitter chat, so I'm hoping to gain valuable insight from my fellow teachers. All too often we get stuck in "our world" and forget to reach out to the most valuable resources, each other! #edtechchat
A6.1 I don't see any cons. Though I think it does depend on the University offering the degree. I have seen some of the teachers in my district earn the degree, but honestly it was worthless. It only taught the how to use different software packages. #edtechchat
A6) I think it guides you and gives you a foundation on what technology education is and requires. Just taking a tech course this semester has brought me to a whole new world.I can only imagine what earning a degree in the field can lead you to.
#edtechchat#gcitec2360
A6. Pros/Cons to EdTech degree depend on your goals/background. I had a research question that I couldn't answer so I signed up for doctorate. (But my undergrad is technical: electrical engineer)
#edtechchat
Depends on the institution. I think some just want a terminal degree others want a terminal degree from a school just as or more established as theirs #EdTechChat
A6: I’ve never heard of of an Edtech degree, but I would think it could only benefit someone as a teacher, by providing information on the current technology that is relevant and engaging in the classroom. #edtechchat
