-
Why thanks! Nice to be here. Hope to drop in for a bit.
-
-
-
Hi Steph! Wednesday nights are the greatest, right?
-
Can I just admit, I flunk personality tests? I can say yes to all of the questions? Is that a special personality type?
-
-
-
-
-
I'm always tempted to do that! lol!
-
-
I like to think it is because i'm so balanced.
-
I am also a complete INFP! =)
-
So just word of caution! I have two sick kiddos so who knows how this will go tonight! Thank goodness for TweetDeck lol!
-
-
-
-
-
Oh, I'm insanely sick myself! But still have an open house later tonight!
-
Q1 is here! Sometimes even our own personality types and preferences can come into play... thoughts? https://t.co/lhcLFYzPdq
-
Wow! Tons of INFPs here tonight!
-
Just joining my first Fourth grade teacher and INFJ
-
A1: ENFP here! My "E" talks way too much, always trying to keep my min-lessons to the point before I loose them all ;)
-
A1 I make quick decisions, teach with empathy and joke around with my Ss.
-
we gotta do what we gotta do! Good luck with the open house! and feel better :)
-
A1 In observing and subbing some classes, I have noticed that I like to give Ss the benefit of the doubt. Maybe makes me gullible.
-
A1 -- I do not. I've taken it several times and never gotten the same result!
-
awesome to have you here tonight :) Welcome to
-
The E part helps me to be enthusiastic and encouraging about my subject matter & the N helps me to discover where Ss are at
-
A1 I think being such an E helps my shy Ss bloom and open up a little, although I think I can be intimidating at 1st
-
Late but here! Andrea Tolley middle school Microsoft IT Teacher from TN.
-
A1: Have to be aware of not always doing what is 'comfortable' for me and best meets my Ss needs.
-
-
Joining my first Teacher candidate from South Dakota
-
Hi! I'm Adrianna, a teacher candidate from the University of South Dakota!!
-
me too, I think humor puts everyone at ease and when we can laugh at ourselves and be silly, less intimidating
-
A1: I try to notice what keeps them engaged then I try to vary my lessons.
-
A1 Now I know it! I hope it makes me more understanding!
-
I think that describes me too?
-
-
A1 - I believe that paying attention to your Ss needs is critical -- my E can overwhelm quiet kids, but powers up the star kids
-
I also do this! Makes for much better lessons and leads to less behavior problems.
-
Hey, I am Samantha from the University of South Dakota and I'm a teacher candidate!
-
-
A1 the F in me is always giving hugs - they're free flowing in my classroom all the time! lol https://t.co/kSQa3vYuPm
-
-
-
A1: Students drive my teaching. What they are interested in becomes part of the lessons
-
I can relate to that! A smile goes a long way but I can sometimes overwhelm my Ss a bit, I know
-
A1: W/ my Ss, I strive to open minds & remind everyone that we all think, learn, process, feel, & react to things differently.
-
A2 my biggest hurdle is really the pull of gangs --- when a kid is drawn to such a dark place it is hard to overcome
-
-
welcome! Glad to have you with us for
-
A2 Obvs, we aren't all the same. Knowing personality types helps me understand who can work together and how they learn.
-
A2: Helping that Ss figure out their own type helps both them AND me to get them what they need more often.
-
wonderful to have you! Welcome to :)
-
A2 Helps me navigate in my classroom. Keeps me aware, on my toes, respectful of all.
-
A2 from the beginning you just need to accept that we are not all the same and that there is my than one way to solve a problem
-
First experience! Can't wait to hear all the great ideas. I'm student teaching in a 2nd grade class in KS
-
A2 differentiation, compassion and understanding where Ss are coming from will make my instruction more effective
-
A2 it is hard for me to connect to kids who see their own future as hopeless.knowing that they feel that way, though, guides me
-
A2 we are all different so learn along with the Ss & don't expect everyone to do it your way
-
Some people are introverts, some extroverts. Some like to share, some do not. Some are loud, some are quiet.
-
A2 to be completely honest, wasn't till I became a mom that I really considered it with my Ss too. Makes such a huge difference
-
realizing this at a young age will help them throughout life, right?
-
Q.2 Each person has there own personality and so they might think what they are doing is correct, and so understanding that helps.
-
Getting to know and understand your students personalities can help you better interact with them and create a good relationship.
-
A2: Made me better understand the introverts in my class, more time to process for example, made a HUGE difference
-
A2 Some people are introverts, some extroverts. Some like to share, some do not. Some are loud, some are quiet.
-
Just want to take a second to commend all pre-service interns for jumping in!!
-
That can be a very dark place for certain :(
-
A2 recognizing and really "seeing" kids is the heart of learning
-
A2: It's important to find strengths & weaknesses. I want to embrace who they are, b/c teaching would be boring otherwise
-
Be on the look out! Q3 is on its way...
-
yes! realizing who works best together because of their personality types can make a big difference
-
This is an excellent point! There are different ways to share such as in writing or speaking!
-
that's wonderful! So happy to have you with us for tonight :)
-
-
Absolutely! Starting young is key!
-
A3 collaboration can allow Ss to work in their area of strength - a job for every kid
-
A2 have a St who is an only child, struggles with taking turns, calling out. ClassDojo random selection has helped him(me).
-
Q3: This is one of the reasons I love blended learning. Brings out the quiet ones, lets the others shine as well
-
A3 Same. seriously! https://t.co/Dt8xnn3Bn8
-
-
A3 collaboration can allow Ss to work in their area of strength - a job for every kid
-
A3 but also allow individual work too
-
I totally agree! Collaboration provides such great opportunities!
-
A2: Always spending more time on getting to know you activities at the beginning helps immensely throughout the year
-
and knowing that its okay to be that way is great! Accepting our differences
-
A3. Allowing the ability for ALL students to participate. Don't force them to play, but make it look interesting so they want to
-
Having a strong classroom community can help those introverts to speak up a little more because they feel comfortable
-
A3: Loads of choices! No one cookie cutter way. Opportunities to work alone or with a group, Extra time to process or talk it out
-
A3 choice! games that foster cooperation, communication and a little compeitition
-
Having activities that try to strengthen both introverts and extroverts, evenly.
-
-
A3: group co-op where one is the rep while the others give answers/support
-
A3: make sure each student is comfortable with the activity and it plays to each of their interests.
-
being comfortable is so important. Also others understanding who you are can bring that comfort
-
A3: Also try to do many fun team building act. that may bring out hidden talents!
-
A3: Differentiation! Give your kids different activities and ways to get the work done. There isn't just one way.
-
A3: vocabulary charades where introverts supply words while extroverts act out for guessers
-
Q3 It's so important to give students a choice in activities to create meaningful learning experiences for everyone
-
right! trying different things, different ways, finding what works best for you
-
A3 also provide choice in proof of understanding - some kids draw, some write, some talk
-
-
A3: Ss need choices & opportunities! There a million & one ways to do things, so why limit our Ss?
-
that's so important! What works for one doesn't have to work for another
-
A3 As Ambassador my experiences have been HUGE in growing professionally - , growing my PLN for example
-
Are you ready? Q4 is coming your way in one minute
-
A2 Has much to do with empathy...walking a mile in their shoes...appreciating who they are as Ss, given their personalities.
-
Teaching the students how to have conversations and how to respectfully reply or comment to one another is helpful.
-
A3 used to let my 9th graders decided how to show me they understood The odyssey - got movies, puppet shows, dance, poems
-
that's a great one! Everyone is involved in the way that feels most comfortable to them
-
Hi gang! So happy to be with you! Chris here from Ontario...very late!
-
-
Makes them more comfortable to speak and can help the talkers realize when to stop talking and let others speak lol
-
I always love when a S finds a unique way to do something that I've never even imagined!
-
A3 kid who NEVER would finish an assignment, made puppets, built a stage, wrote a script
-
A3 assign roles that fit students different personality types but still challenge them and provide room for growth
-
A4: I usually write the step-by-step instructions on the whiteboard. I just point to it when a student asks a direction ?
-
A4 Teach with CLARITY for one! know what your goal is first! Be clear and communicate in small chunks
-
A4: checklists, charts, Ss repeating directions to each other, clear examples, quick check-ins, guided practice & peer mentors
-
A4 oral and written directions, teacher modeling and picture clues if needed
-
Provide the students with clear step by step directions and say them out loud. Then have them repeat the directions to a partner.
-
A4 find a buddy they can trust to help out :D
-
A3: Be sure to build in time for reflection and time for spirited interaction! All can learn from both kinds of experiences.
-
A4: By writing the directions on the board, and verbally saying it out loud, students could hear or see the directions.
-
A4: Maybe that's where student autonomy can come in? Sometimes students understand better if they have choice.
-
A4. Allow children to reword the directions into things they can easily understand and remember
-
A4: strugglers can be given directions in chunks, small group
-
-
A4 I try to ALWAYS be willing to explain it AGAIN
-
Mostly lurking in today -- lots going on in the office! gah! Keep the convo rollin'!
-
A4: Turn and talk repeating directions, write dir out, model, checklists. Culture of ok to ask questions. Procedures, procedures.
-
A4 Objectives clearly stated, posted, discussed, explained by peers, model!
-
A4: Have Ss create the task(s) themselves & explain to peers. I also love to use WBT motions to further understanding.
-
yes I love the small chunks part, great for those students who need that extra time to process it all
-
A4: Modeling and leaving examples for students to come back to. Students as "experts" to answer questions
-
we do 'turn and chat' all of the time
-
A4 I put problems in the board and have Ss explain to me how to do it
-
A4 some kids can only handle one direction at a time: Go Slow and BE CLEAR
-
Leaving examples is great. My students always do better when they have something to look at!
-
A4: I film myself giving directions and attempting activities. Embed YouTube video to a Google Slide for S quick ref.
-
A4: Provide directions using visuals and highlighting important information, so they can refer back to it if they forget.
-
A4: Open-ended tasks, that allow for multiple entry points...think Genius Hour-type opportunities...let Ss drive learning.
-
Q5 is on it's way - be on the lookout!
-
Love your integration of technology!
-
A4 and many times I DO the assignment too and let them grade mine!
-
Q3 When students have choices they take responsibility for their learning!
-
I have many students who CRAVE checklists - so do I! Clear, concise, and crossing it off rocks!
-
kids have really benefit from our reflective conversations. So important to build those in.
-
A4 if they are confused I use prompt "What have you done so far?" You'd be surprised how this helps them to get started
-
And will go FARTHER than you would ever ask!
-
Clarity of purpose is so important!
-
-
Love that they grade yours! I often have Ss find my mistakes & explain how to fix/improve my work
-
A4 love "ask three then me" it's so important to teach students how to be active problem solvers and collaborate with their peers
-
Hi Jenna!! Lurk on! and hope you're having a great day overall :)
-
They won't know what to do, if I DON'T!!
-
thanks! Let's me work w/ Ss right away and others who pick up quickly can get started too!
-
procedures, procedures, I'm all about the procedures! ;)
-
Agreed, but many students are sometimes left 'in the dark'!
-
A5: Make sure all kids are sharing and caring!!
-
A5: start very early taking risks myself and showing that 'failure' is ok. Give them opps to work with different kids in dif ways.
-
I love doing that with Rubrics too! Having the kids work to create them helps them better understand the end goal
-
A5: Constant check-ins, opportunities 2 explore feelings/thoughts, models and clear expectations, reflection, ask Qs to learn more
-
And then we get mad when they don't perform!
-
Teaching students to respectfully agree and disagree with each other so they understand how people have different opinions
-
A5 I tell my Ss, 'in any wrong answer there is always something that's right'. You tried, showed your work, used a capital..
-
A3: You model and practice this type of learning environment. For example, a Monday Meeting is a great way https://t.co/cFZgeNJyD2
-
A3:Introverted Ss typically have difficulties expressing themselves in social settings. It is always to teach them coping skills.
-
I also have my Ss tell a partner, or sometimes even record or write/draw out their explanations
-
-
A5 be ever vigilant and quick to defend the outsiders We have to model it!
-
I guess I'm not convinced about learning being tied to a checklist...Can it lead to deep learning?
-
A5: We write a mission statement together. This year's: We will go the extra mile to help each other improve through positivity.
-
A5: Constant talk and modeling of respectful behavior. Ss post to convo boards on moby max
-
A5: Do an activity that shows how each person thinks and feeling differently, and that could open students minds to something new.
-
A5 by modeling responses in sentence stems like " I agree/disagree because ___, "The reason I ___".
-
Math SMP #3 is my favorite for that very reason
-
-
I think the question was focusing on directions specifically - and some Ss really love that format.
-
A5 don't just throw them in collaborative groups TEACH THEM HOW IT WORKS
-
A5 Part II: My Ss sit in teams to start building relationships & collaboration skills from Day 1!
-
Q6 will be here in one minute. Hope you're keeping up ;)
-
Hi ; I am very late but had to jump in when I saw the amazing conversations; only can stay for a few!
-
Exactly! Some kids don't know how to do things unless they are taught and shown...we can't assume they know.
-
yes giving them something they can refer back to is powerful! Visuals help so much too
-
A5 we spend weeks learning each role and then review and modify and review and modify all year so we can safely TALK
-
So they require the 'structure' then?
-
-
-
A2; Knowing who you is a critical step in how you respond to students; when you know better you do better https://t.co/evTJGoixcA
-
-
Q1 is here! Sometimes even our own personality types and preferences can come into play... thoughts? https://t.co/lhcLFYzPdq
-
YES!!! My kids love when I post videos for them on our class website, they can revisit these at home later
-
Q6: The timer gets a work out in my room every day!
-
For sure!! I timed just about everything in my classroom!
-
-
I like this kind of modelling...really helps those who are 'at a loss' for how to begin.
-
A6 PRACTICE! Everything! Use timers, cues, looks, chants...
-
We call it "Discussion Lingo" in my room :)
-
A6: Don't take it for granted! Routines and are huge! My Ss love cheat sheets, timers, reminders, peer tips, tutorials, extra time
-
yes, something quick to reference, check off and feel accomplished, know where to go next
-
A6 Timers, clear directions, auditory signals, I have also nearly eliminated paper when your work goes on a slide you get it done
-
I use a 4 drawer plastic shelf for materials and put one next to each group of students. The stuff they need is right there to get
-
A6: Keep on task, good habits have to come from somewhere! Also, maybe have the kids make a schedule?
-
A6 clear expecations and routines from day 1! High on task behaviors = more learning opportunities & dicsussions
-
A6: Timers, modeling, checklists, agendas, goal tracking, and that everything in the room has a place! =)
-
A5: conduct a service learning project with Ss where it is student driven. That's how they learn to collaborate
-
Welcome! Great that you could join our gang!
-
A6: Folders/binders organized together always reminders where things should go. Love the timer!
-
A4 Clear guidelines, provide visuals, give examples and I LOVE checklists!
-
Teaching students how to put stuff into their desk is also helpful. Books on left side. Folders on the right. Less mess LOL!!
-
A6 Use folders to keep organized!
-
A6: Also LOTS of LABELS & student input for ways to improve systems & routines.
-
A6: Some of these skills are executive functioning skills; they can be practiced and taught https://t.co/RdrIXUgMlj
-
Q7 will be our last question - arriving in one minute. But don't just answer and run. Have any resources to share? Questions? ;)
-
pic of hat neat desk helps too!
-
A6 we are also an AVID school so EVERY S has the same binder and we have schoolwide organizing
-
A6 Alexa keeps us on time and no papers in my class bc of what it is everything is submitted in
-
not even kidding! Teacher friends looked at me like I was crazy for dedicating time to this but its SO NEEDED! lol
-
A6: I made my study hall time an opportunity to model and practice organization in a safe environment https://t.co/RdrIXUgMlj
-
If we don't teach it, how can we expect them to do it?
-
its fantastic when they can try out what works/doesn't and give input to make it better
-
-
A6 Procedures and practice! Also peer support and guidance!
-
-
Excellent approach...I was a Languages Program Coordinator for 11 years.
-
A5 Build relationships, get to know your students and their values. Gain their TRUST
-
love the ideas and tips, would love to continue to grow together, especially 3rd/ math
-
A6. When I get off task in a lesson I always point it out and model refocusing and getting back on topic.
-
interesting! Have to check out :)
-
A7 Working on Creed project now with my older Ss -- Who am I, What do I admire and where do I want to be in the future?
-
A7 if you don't understand yourself, you can't understand your world
-
A7: when students understand themselves, they understand how they learn and how they study.
-
Awesomeness! Totally stealing this idea for the end of the year! Woohoo!
-
A7:Understanding why they might struggle in one area /excel in another can really shed positive light for tackling new situations
-
A6: Does anyone use mobile tech so class is virtually folder and file free? ? My goal for next year.
-
so great for our ELL and not a bad practice for all, really
-
I think if students are more self aware of how they are as individuals it will help them interact with others. self monitor better
-
-
A6: Clear communication, clear expectations can be helpful...but Ss need to be part of the development process.
-
They could realize where they need help or where they stand compared to other students. Plus it will help them in their future.
-
A7:such insight can also be a great benefit to parents! Can avoid lots of power struggles, melt-downs, negative feelings overall
-
Yep. ClassDojo timer is my BFF!
-
Q7 Then then can understand how much time they need to put away for time to study or homework. Everyone is different
-
The most important step!!! π
-
A7: This shows Ss can reflect honestly about themselves & then later begin to empathize w/ others https://t.co/7lM7Zh05iZ
-
would love to oraganize and make this happen too
-
gaining their trust is so important, a great foundation for building a strong classroom community
-
-
-
-
A6 Set high expectations for ALL students, create an environment where all students can succeed!
-
I've done something similar w/ my Ss where they create their own personal flags to show these :)
-
A7 One 6th gr "My mom is a big influence on my life - she chose drugs over me & now I am strong in my resolve to take a new path
-
-
-
Self awareness is powerful and can send families in a new direction
-
Weβre going to have Google classroom available. I will be flipping my curriculum for next year. I have iPads for all sts
-
-
A7 if they understand themselves they can develop study habits that will be beneficial for their style of learning
-
time to gear up for open house! Dojo love to all! Let's finish the week STRONG in our resolve to lead with hope!
-
Thanks for the great chat! See you next time :)
-
A7. I don't think I'd point this out to them. I'd remind them of their behaviors and challenge them to find other strengths.
-
been using google classroom with my 3rd grd this year. LOVE it. Wish we were 1-1, still use V little paper.
-
I always say u have to develop your outer eye - seeing yourself the way others see u, reflect and improve relationships
-
As a future teacher, I loved hearing your thoughts about personality in a classroom, and I will keep in mind your thoughts.
-
A7. We did a four corners true color activity, it allowed Ss to actually see that not everyone learns the same way and thats ok
-
Loved this chat! Thanks for all the insights Dojo friends!
-
As an aspiring teacher, I just wanted to say thanks for giving me some new insights on student personality and differences.
-
Shout out to our new memebers of TEAM TEACHER!
-
-
A7: or maybe I misunderstood the question!!
-
A7: Know thyself! Metacognition & self-reflection help. If I have a sense of my strengths & areas for growth...can move mountains!
-
Thank you so much for your support! It means a lot to me, especially since I (we) still have a way to go! https://t.co/MnR5g99urL
-
-
Shout out to our new memebers of TEAM TEACHER!
-
Ha! I think as teachers we all have to be. Makes you the perfect teacher type then ;)
-
that awareness can take them a very long way :)
-
Ha! I'm perfect for a lot of things lol
-
much luck and feel better - positive vibes all around :)
-

-
-
A7: Know thyself! Metacognition & self-reflection help. If I have a sense of my strengths & areas for growth...can move mountains!
