#fcpslearn is a weekly chat about teaching and learning. Our focus is on creativity, innovation and inspiration. We discuss a range of educational topics that range from technology integration to the Olympics.
A1: The best memories I have are from my 7th and 8th grade science classes - I had the same teacher, since I went to a smaller Catholic school. She was incredible and continues to be a motivating force in my own career. #fcpslearn
A1~ the happy grams that our ( many siblings 😊} ele Principal, Mr. Weiss, may he be resting in peace 🙏, would send home weekly to show how much he cared. Loved him. ❤️ #fcpslearn
A1 A good memory that I have from school is when I was able to leave the ELL class and join the "regular" classes. It was a proud moment for me. #fcpslearn
A1: my no nonsense French teacher looked at 10th gr me (giving attitude), and said, “You THINK you don’t like me because I won’t let you settle for less than what you CAN do.” I would follow her into battle after that. #fcpslearn#loveyouMrsMabbitt
A1: I wish I had a better answer, but I really cannot come up with one. School was tough -- relationship-wise & connecting to what was happening in class. I guess I am here to help Ss who were like me to make meaningful memories and have learning experiences that last. #fcpslearn
A1: My 7th grade civics T was the best at building relationships & making connections. He made us laugh, debate, and hang on every word he spoke. It’s no wonder history was my favorite subject every year I had him! #FCPSlearn
A2: My favorite costume as a child was a picnic table - something no one else had ever done (at least in my mind)! Tomorrow may take the cake though - I made Pac-Man costumes for my entire homeroom class! I love being unique with costumes. #fcpslearn
A2: Last year I was Bob Ross for Halloween. It was awesome. It gave me a chance to be someone that I am not for a day. Bob Ross is chill and peaceful. I am the opposite -- loud and animated. You will not fall asleep around me. #fcpslearn
A2 #fcpslearn
I have never been a big costume person myself, since my costumes were under a winter coat most years My mom once made me a cleopatra costume which I loved mostly because of the cool headpiece. Not sure what it says about me!
A2 My favorite costume of all time was one Halloween when I got home late from a soccer game and decided to just go as a soccer player. Easiest dress up time ever. #fcpslearn
A2: Some of the best costumes I ever had were hand made by my mom. I remember the astronaut, the X Wing fighter, and the tiger costumes the most. #fcpslearn.
A3: Standardized testing scares me, because I hate what it can do to our students. It makes them stressed out at far too young of an age, and it pits schools and teachers against each other, which is completely pointless. #fcpslearn
A2: favorite all time is Rogue from the XMen. I think it says that I fight for what is right and I help “outcasts” find positive connections with others. I also love hanging out with little Wolverines 😎#fcpslearn#cosplay
A3 One thing that scares me about our educational system today is how many students need extra supports and how many of those supports are disappearing because of difficult budgets. #fcpslearn
A3: I am scared that a lack of innovation in the classroom will make our system obsolete and will hinder humankind’s ability to solve complex problems in front of us. #fcpslearn
A3: The "defeated stance" Ss take in relationship to their role in the educ process. Ss operate as if their voice doesnt matter, so what's the point in speaking up? It's easier to settle for less, get the assignment over w/than be creative & think outside the box. #fcpslearn
A3 How quickly we will run to the next great 'thing'...without any evidence of effectiveness. We'll shell out big bucks for something that has yet to be proven...
#fcpslearn
A3: Parents who don’t seek assistance for their children (for a myriad of reasons). I love my Ss, and we do all we can for them, but we need to be a team...and that team sometimes needs extra players. #FCPSLearn
A4: I take pride in creating a space that students want to be in. I like having a classroom that students can walk into and feel as though they can finally exhale. #fcpslearn
A3: we should be differentiating more often & more specifically- obviously, standardized testing is the opposite of meeting individuals’ needs #fcpslearn
A3~
~ testing, testing, testing ... scares me if we don’t start looking more closely at the value of the testing & making sure it allows /offers all Ss a variety of ways to demonstrate m/evidence of learning ...not one & done or one size fits all ...
#fcpslearn
A4: relationships, showing gratitude; instructionally, as a T, I took pride in a zoomed out thematic approach that students could transfer to other settings. #fcpslearn
A4 It gives me great pride and joy knowing that I do everything I can to give my English Language Learners accessibility to learning, tools to help them succeed, and as much of a voice as they are willing to share. #fcpslearn
I take A LOT of pride in growing writers in my classroom! It is a skill they will need for the future. I also take A LOT of joy in teaching art to students. It is a way I can connect with some Ss. #fcpslearn
A4~
~love of my Ss ❤️❤️❤️
~bldg a caring, class & happy community of leaders ~
~very proud to share that I have a great sense of humor & my littles seem to love it ❤️

A5: The Great Pumpkin would visit my classroom because it's FUN! We may not always tick off every check box on the lesson plan, but we have a great time learning and laughing together. #fcpslearn
A5: The Great Pumpkin would visit to be encouraged and lifted up. We all need to hear the value of our impact from time to time. You can find that in our space. #fcpslearn
A5 The Great Pumpkin would visit my class to be a part of a happy environment where students release the tension they build up during the day. My ELLs feel at home with peers and a teacher who has faced and is facing the same struggles that they are living. #fcpslearn
A5: we had fun, learned through rigorous instruction, and created awesome stuff. And we showed each other we genuinely cared for each other. #fcpslearn
