#K12ArtChat is an #ArtsEd chat that happens every Thurs 8:30 pm CST founded by #TeamGrundler @ArtGuy76 & @GrundlerArt & share Ss' art on Fridays via #FabArtsFri.
A1: I hope they remember that I cared for them and that I wanted them to find their passion in life - not just a career but something they love! #K12ArtChat
First glaze fire of second semester! Ill be here at 6am tomorrow to start the 10 hour cone 10 reduction firing. Then... wait for the 36 hour cool down. Thats the hardest part😂 waiting till sunday to unload! @tishrich@MattCockrellArt@MSD549C#k12artchat
A1- An impact I hope to leave on my students is that Success follows those who Commit to Hard Work and Dedication #K12ArtChat using Art Projects to help accomplish Goals and ultimately having students SEE What the True Underlying Importance An Art Project can have on their lives
My hope is through my classroom I can inspire students to bravely explore their ideas, instill a questioning spirit and a thirst for knowledge. #K12ArtChat#a1
A2: I build in time for Ss to ask each other for areas of improvement. Then I will give feedback. Also, working alongside them the same thing. Seeing how my process is different than theirs! #K12ArtChat
A2- How I follow up with my intent: I follow up with Each Student of mine, not just about their art projects, but about Them As People, each day #K12ArtChat I make it a point to Discuss Future Plans with my 12th grade students giving advice & letters of recommendation if need be
A2 My hope for my students is that I teach ghem@that talent is a habit, that they pay attention to what they pay attention to, and ghat they are willing to explore. I try to talk about this as much as I can. This is what great creatives/innovators do. #K12ArtChat
A2: I've started to do lots of exploratory lessons. Students get to try out new media and processes and it's okay if it's a hot mess when they finish as long as the have learned something through the creative process. #K12ArtChat
As they “Finish” I tell them they need to go and ask 2 other Ss for ways to improve their project. (Not ask, is it good?) Especially, at #Middle they always default to It’s Good. #K12ArtChat
A#3 My HS ceramics teacher made the biggest impact on me as a student. MR. Sanders gave me the desire to teach ceramics. He even met me come back and student teach for him. #k12artchat
Ways I am intentional about impacting my students to be kind includes modeling kindness in small ways ("I like your shoes!") and big ways ("I'm sorry you are having a hard day, why don't we talk about it for a minute before we start our work.") #K12ArtChat
A3 So many people have made an impact. Some well known. Some unknown. Some living. Some passed. So many people have added to my compost pile that my work grows from. (Compost pile concept is stolen from @neilhimself) #K12ArtChat
#k12artchat#A1 i hope they appreciate art, and see its impact on their lives. That it’s not just dead guys in a museum w pretty pictures, but it’s another way to learn and discover yourself and others
R3 #K12artchat I helped in a Spanish summer program several yrs ago. I had 1 ss who was born with 1 fully developed hand. For Picasso's collage, we did a theater piece, she was able to do an amazing artwork! Mind you she was in elementary when she did this!
A3a: My mother was a teacher, the best teacher I've ever seen and she was a fierce advocate for me as a young student with dyslexia - she was fundamental in my life as a student. #K12ArtChat
A3: My 3rd grade teacher made an impact on me by being empathetic, compassionate, and understanding when I, and other students, were having an off day. #K12ArtChat
A2: i make a point to talk about the other subjects we are also learning. I add those terms in w my art vocabulary and bring in a lot of careers. #K12ArtChat
A3b. Mrs. Curtley my 3-5 resource teacher who worked with me one on one with reading and writing - I will never forget her teaching me to spell "together" to-get-her - lightbulbs! #K12ArtChat
A3: I have learned SO much from other art teachers! Being part of a great PLN is so important and I am always learning something, even though I'm not a "student" anymore. (Just learned about this batik drawing techniue in Jan at an art PL) #K12ArtChat
A2. I ask very straight questions about Ss work. Trying to make them think and explain why they do what they do. I get to move around the room constantly so i get to interact with just about everyone #k12artchat
It took me a while to decide to be a teacher because 1- I saw how hard she worked and 2- how could I ever be as good as her....... but I'm so glad that I followed my heart #K12ArtChat
A3: I think due to my long haired appearance. My 5th Gr Teacher Mr. Bombeck. (Male, Elem. teacher with long hair, who modeled Creativity in the clsrm. & was the son of Erma Bombeck #K12ArtChat
A4: I'm really proud that I get to see so many of my former students leading creative and interesting lives that make them happy! Instagram is the best! #K12ArtChat
#k12artchat A3: as a student, @George_Felton in college. He just made the entire world seem inspiring. And of course any of my art teachers! My HS art teacher still follows me and encourages me
A4. Empowering Ss to take risks in their creative expression. Sometimes its just proving to a Ss that are creative. So.many Ss in ceramics 1 start off by telling me they arent good at art. I tell them, thats about to change! #k12artchat
A3- The Teacher who impacted me as a Student was ‘My Art Teacher’ #K12ArtChat in the ‘lack thereof’ with projects. Art was Boring. We did ‘basic’ stuff like tracing photocopies to paint, lettering with markers, etc. That ‘Lack Thereof’ is What Drives ME to Craft ENGAGING Projects
Random but I want to give a shout out to Rick Folchert my mentor teacher when I student taught he was so good with students and never let things get under his skin- they were kids nothing was personal and everyday was a new day to start over #K12ArtChat
A3 Mrs Henry chose my picture to hang up in 2nd grade ( only 2 pictures from each class). My parents constant encouragement and guidance to pursue art. #K12ArtChat
A3a: Plus I grew up w/ both of my parents who were Ts, my mom taught Elementary & my Dad taught High School Science. For 30 plus yrs. Not to mention a wrestling coach. (Saw the impact he made on so many Ss lives) Amazing! #K12ArtChat
A5. I think each project we do has specific kids whonare impacted greatly. Some love sculpture and find its their thing! Some its the wheel, others its slab work or coiling. #k12artchat
A4: Last yr, got a chance to be reminded of the impact you make. Ss was senior in HS, saw him at a celebration for Seniors at my Elementary. He told me he always carries a sketchbook w/ him bc I told him Artist never know when inspiration will strike! (Still does) #K12ArtChat
A5: Ceramics projects and sculpture always seem to be more memorable - we did a collaborative place setting sculpture where everyone picked a social issue to highlight that meant something to them, always made a big impact. #K12ArtChat
A4- Having a place where students can talk to me About Anything, because of the positive relationships we build #K12ArtChat is what allows Art Teachers to have a Unique Impact on Students Lives.
A5: clay. Stuff they didn’t know you could do w things- tape sculptures, foil marker transfers, metal tooling. 3d printing is all the thing #k12ArtChat
A3 part II - I knew my art teacher Marcia Skinner for almost 40 years, she passed away in 2015. Last summer, her partner mailed me my high school art work from 40 years ago - she saved it #k12artchat
Q5b: im doing plastic bag weaving for the homeless shelters -reuse, recycle, weaving and community. I can’t fit enough time in w kids. They are all eager! #k12artchat
A6. I want kids to say I tought them to think creatively. I taught them skills that stuck with them. I truly cared about them as people. I did my best to show kindness to everyone I came into contact with... even the irritating ones😂#k12artchat
A5- The projects that are Most Memorable to my students are where I work on the project With Them #K12ArtChat such as in this video, earlier in the year, where I challenged my Art 3 students to Most Mugs made on the wheel. Me vs.18 students. Building Classroom Community!
Q4: we see sides of that kid no one else sees. Sometimes the ones they don’t see in themselves. And we see their growth over years. We can be the reason they come to school. #k12ArtChat
A6 I hope I help them find their passion! I have one who is now a certified teacher as of December I've had a few come back and thank me for being patient and kind when they were not so nice in class. #K12ArtChat
A5: Just some of them: 1st Graders went on a walk-a-bout, as they made their aboriginal dot animals, 2nd Gr made animated Kindness creatures, 4th gr made Functional Furniture then VR it into a space! #K12ArtChat
lol “ problem “ and “ Ann” seems to be synonymous in some quarters. I’m going to be a heretic and teach colour theory using cup pours for my “ maker” kids #k12ArtChat
A6- What I’d want former students to say about Me is that I gave My All to Craft Art Projects for them that were Fun, Challenging, Engaging, Unique, Encompassing All Mediums and Advanced #K12ArtChat & that I was Fair, Consistent, Easy to Talk To, Professional & Advocated For Them
A6 That I loved learning as much as I loved teaching, that I created a safe place in the art room that let them be their best self. I let creativity grow. #k12artchat
They thought they were in my more “ maker” course and are stuck with theory and history so we’ll build Stonehenge and do everything a different way 😳🤣#k12ArtChat
