A1: I don't see any reason why we shouldn't just call ourselves what we are. I am not a teacher yet, but I'm proud to tell people what I'm going to be. We are teachers/educators. #sunchat
I consider myself a "forensic document examiner", trying to identify the author of various anonymous submissions or deciper the chicken-scratch scribbles of my screen-age students #sunchat
The insufferable and sanctimonious Ben Sasse’s tail is caught in the Presidential wannabe cage. Trump hater Sasse has been wiggling around Iowa where R party leaders, operatives and grassroots activists say the stench of Sasse 2020 is in the air.
Toxic. Wear masks.

A1. I think all teachers share a similar role and responsibility, but I believe we will each define what a teacher's role is based on our philosophy of education. #sunchat
A1 (Not really an answer) At least one part of what this question is getting at is what people believe the job will be v. the reality of how we spend our time. #sunchat
Morning, #sunchat. I'm Brian. I teach middle-school students English in Colorado. Far as I'm concerned leading part of edu job descriptions is "other duties as assigned." Problematic when *un-assignment* feels so rare.
As a gov T, I talk about the roles of POTUS. Aren’t we the same? Wearers of diff hats, constantly changing them out, at times wearing more than one at a time? We are chief inspirer, chief planner, chief mentor...the list goes on #sunchat
During the course of a day, I'm a sounding board, a counselor, a band-aid supplier, a problem solver, a comedian, a librarian, a detective, a facilitator, a guidance counselor, a hugger, an advisor, a paper-pusher, a role model, an analyst, a friend, a *stops to breathe* #sunchat
It’s hard to define something that is ever changing and evolving. As a parent, I see teachers making it a whole lot more personal than it used to be. #sunchat
When you stop and think that in one of our crooms is a future president, a future Nobel Prize winner, even future fathers and mothers, it really grounds your mission! #sunchat
I am an overnight camp counselor, and the impact I have on my kids in unfathomable. It gets me excited to be a teacher every day, because I can only imagine that impact. #sunchat
I get sad when someone finds out I'm a teacher and looks at me with sympathy. If they only knew how great it was! Yes, they hear the bad stuff (the politics side), but there is so much GREATNESS there to the profession! #sunchat
A1: At our school, we prepare students to be global citizens who have the skills, confidence, and motivation to create positive change in the world. #satchat@svvsddts#svvsdtechbingo#sunchat
And I think that’s a reason to keep going and growing in our profession. We can’t be average or mediocre because we don’t want to pump out mediocre graduates #sunchat
I remember this one book I purchased about 25 years ago that had sample job descriptions. When I purchased it a teacher's role was MUCH clearer/more precise. Times sure have changed!! #sunchat
And sometimes the impact doesn't happen for years. I love getting emails from Ss years later where they tell me how I helped them. #BestJobEver#sunchat
Definitely agree we should say that. However, I think people have forgotten how much we do. Some people only remember the bad Ts :(. Unfortunately, some are here for the time off #sunchat
I have been told COUNTLESS times "oh never go into teaching" and "why would you choose to study that?" when telling others about my major. To which I respond, "the kiddos need me... and I'll need them, too!" #sunchat
When you stop and think that in one of our crooms is a future president, a future Nobel Prize winner, even future fathers and mothers, it really grounds your mission! #sunchat
This graphic makes me smile ... how many of these things do you think ever occupied a teacher's day when I began 40 years ago without computers in buildings and educators would walk into their room and close the door? #sunchat
Whatever we do or think, love is always at the center. I’m inspired by my Ss, but also feel broken daily at how few feel genuine love at home. Love and Carr has to be part of our croom, our definition. It may be the only place for some kids. #sunchat
#sunchat We have to put relationships and connectivity with our students at the forefront of our lessons. If students don't feel connected to you or that you care, there will be little learning going on in class.
I remember this one book I purchased about 25 years ago that had sample job descriptions. When I purchased it a teacher's role was MUCH clearer/more precise. Times sure have changed!! #sunchat
100% agree!! Each day is new with new needs, challenges, goals, and joys - and as teachers we rise to each occasion to the best of our ability! #sunchat
I would include “listener”. Ts often get comfortable in a “sage” mindset, and forget to listen to their kiddos. I’ve lost count of the times my Ss have taught me something, have forced to consider a different POV. #sunchat
I love the idea of studying to be an educator because it allows me to have an opportunity to love on children and provide a support system for them, which could potentially impact them for life! #sunchat
Teachers are clever designers of a flexible, accessible and engaging curriculum that meets the variable needs, skills, talents, interests and experiences of each student. Not easy! #sunchat
GREAT answer! I like the title "curiosity engineer" - I've just begun a wonder wall/genius hour with my class this year in efforts to cultivate curiosity and use it to slingshot my learners into authentic learning opportunities that truly matter to them. #sunchat

Opening: Teacher. Qualifications: Compassion of a counselor, craft knowledge of a surgeon, listening skills of a blind man, collaborative skills of an entrepreneur, charisma of a stage artist, patience of Job. Salary lower than you expect. #sunchat
It's a word that muddies the water: we teach subjects, we teach lessons, we teach skills and, sometimes, we teach to assessments. But certainly the what we actually teach is students. And ourselves. #sunchat
I am also shaped by so many of my teachers! I look forward to forming the relationships with my students that will last and hopefully inspire, too! #sunchat
So true! What our content is, where it comes from, and how we present it has shifted dramatically over the last two decades, but the relationships stay the same! #sunchat#svvsdtechbingo@svvsddts
Such a great discussion with amazingly passionate Ts! Don’t forget to contact @susankotch@tiffanytruitt or myself if you have topics you’d like to discuss at #sunchat!
So true. It is also a question that changes over the years you are teaching. Don’t know if you can really know that in college. My first year was consumed with just trying to make it. 13 years later, making it is rare and transformation is my norm #sunchat
Okay, you are on a role with the jokes. I have often thought about opening up a radio shack outside my classroom door. Probably the best fundraiser ever! #sunchat
I don't know if this is supposed to be funny but I got a good laugh out of it. I know my HS teachers needed patients to put up with me, and I'll need it too. #sunchat
My favorite teachers were always the ones who cares, the ones who pulled me aside and asked how I was doing. The one who wished me happy Hanukkah in a class full of non-Jews. The ones who CARED! #sunchat
I’ve noticed that so much of our definitions haven’t made much mention of content. This doesn’t reflect its lack of importance, it reflects how important our kids are! #sunchat
A humble servant to the curious mind and supporter of lofty goals! Kids are a canvas and every one of them is unique and different. Our job is not to create a replica but encourage a masterpiece. #sunchat
RT & follow @NPEaction@DianeRavitch@carolburris The most important thing on twitter today is the about outsized influence of billionaires. If we want to understand how Public ed got here this is essential, especially if we want to reverse this. #sunchathttps://t.co/FI7gsgPWXM
So glad we are focusing on kids. However, I know a lot of colleagues who I think they are but are really not. Anyone have ideas of how to help them? #sunchat
Content is simply the catalyst for dialogue and exploration; the development of person and hopefully empathy. Of the things kids need to KNOW, learning how to learn and adapt are among the most important. #sunchat
I watched a video recently talking about how the role of a teacher is shifting to prepare students for jobs that don't exist yet. Although crazy to think about, this inspires me to become more of a facilitator for learning and an encourager to say there are no limits! #sunchat
As a college student, I know that as I anticipate my teaching years, my perspective of teaching will definitely shift over time and I as I gain new experiences #sunchat

Encouraging risk-taking especially resonates with me right now. Some students are so fearful of getting it wrong that they never give themselves the chance to get it right, or to get it wrong and learn from mistakes! #sunchat
Sam, so important to know about your students - who they are, what they enjoy, what makes them tick. Building that trust bond. Your comment on that relationship says it all - the fact you remember that and the impact it's made. #sunchat
I don’t think many of us would define our role as “content delivery system”. Maybe it’s wrong to think that way, but that places the standards before the student, and I think that’s backwards. #SunChat
I remember specific conversations with my 6th grade teacher. It's truly incredible, because at the time I didn't realize the importance of it all! She was the best. #sunchat
about once a month, I grab a bunch of colored paper and ask students to write notes to adults in the building--custodians, staff, teachers, admin. Great writing practice for authentic audiences...and warm feedback for those who need it. #sunchat
#sunchat Wanted: lead learner; empathizer, teacher of thought through experience. Radical reflector, a Metacognitive Master, Feedback-feeder, Meddler in the middle, and Future Fashioner. (Also, Amazing Alliterative Ability a plus)
The teacher is a beacon of hope for the kids ... even if you do not perceive yourself as a "great" teacher ... you as a teacher, give kids hope. #sunchat
Our English teachers do that for teacher appreciation week. Love getting those notes. I will suggest for them to do it once a month. I think it is good for students to always be reminded to be thankful. #sunchat
As teachers, we can get so caught up in data and trying to "fix" the system that we forget that our focus is that kid sitting in your room at that moment. Sometimes the life changing moment has NOTHING to do with academics. #sunchat
As teachers we ourselves are facilitating our students teaching each other. They themselves become teachers to one another, and change each others lives! #sunchat

We use content to teach other things. It's not so much about the information we're giving, but the skills they get from going through the content and the lessons we can pull from what we teach them. #sunchat
It's hard to define. I can say this: I know that people who don't teach aren't teachers-- and we get into real trouble as a culture when we get that confused #sunchat
"I listen to questions" sticks out to me because I think that so often questions can be cut off/misinterpreted. However, by truly listening you can allow more growth to develop within that student and within yourself! #sunchat
for those of you that have the time, this is the 2017 Camp Video for the overnight summer camp I both attended and now work at. It is what inspired me to become a teacher. I love the impact I make on my campers more than anything. #sunchathttps://t.co/njmeLN66bG
Adult learning has 2 mirror student learning. Want students 2 thrive in a blended environment? Adults needs to lead & learn that way too. Want students 2 thrive in a personal learning environment? Adults need 2 practice those skills 4 their learning too #satchat#SaturdayMorning
Something I consider for my future teaching practice is how to cultivate good relationships with my students, especially if the classroom size is large #sunchat
Thank you, #sunchat for all of the awesome tweets of defining a "teacher". This gave me a boost of encouragement as I continue to study education! Looking forward to the future chats!
I do it for teacher appreciation week - Some kids got responses or thank you notes - they were thrilled! Something for us to remember - jot a note back. Shows them the relationship stands outside of the classroom as well! #sunchat

Time for me to get going. Please jot down a note to jump into the #BookCampPD chat this evening at 7:30 EST. Learning more about writing is something all of us can benefit from. #sunchat
Going to log off now! I have coffee to drink! I will admit, since changing my major to Ed., I have been a bit skeptical if it were for me. Everyone's appreciation and validation of my overnight camp-counselor background is motivating. I want to replicate that impact! #sunchat
