Hey there #cuechat Nicole from Campbell, CA here. Part of the #ConnectedTL team and tonight's moderator. I am currently super obsessed with the show Outlander! #TeamJamie
Q1: the opportunity for one more day with students (or teachers) to make a difference in their lives motivates me. I wonder how to stay engaging and positive #cuechat#ConnectedTL
A1: As a coach, I offered up tech time in classrooms and really pushed for my presence at sites. Ts and Ss appreciate a fresh lesson from a fresh face #cuechat
A1: At this time of year, when teachers just finished testing, they begin to reach out for my services. This keeps me pretty busy and in the moment. #ImNotComplaining#cuechat#ConnectedTL
A1:This is the best time of year to really cement relationships w/ Ss. With instructional demands being lighter you can lighten up & have a little more fun. #cuechat
I teach 8th Graders in a K-8 District. I feel like a mommy whose kid is leaving the nest. I savor all the moments. We do lots of fun activities! #cuechat
we do bottle rockets, and they have to design a device that attaches to the rocket that ejects the alien at the apex, the alien has to fall at a slower rate than the rocket because that means that it has been "sent back to his home planet" #cuechat
A1) To stay focused Until the end of the year I keep focused on what kids are doing and next steps. The technology integration is secondary. Focusing on outcomes...there is always relevance #cuechat
A1: Hi! Becca, Ins. Coach from SoCal and this time of year is perfect to help Ts integrate tech and take some risks to try new things before the year ends! I'm always looking for new ways to use things I've already shared so they can continue! #cuechat#SMETigerWay

True confession: I did a cardboard boat race with my best friend in high school at one of our local lakes. It was thrilling and terrifying at the same time. LOL! I was STEM before STEM was cool... #cuechat
A2:I think it sends the wrong message of “I can’t wait to get away from you people.” When I was in the classroom my daily message was “I know we’re getting close to the end of the year, but we still have work to do”. Then I secretly keep my own countdown in private. Ha! #cuechat
A1 I see end of year as renewal time. What is that crazy thing you wanted to try but didn't yet??? This is the time; work out the kinks to rock it next year. Who wants to finish weak?????!!!?????? Rock the awesome EVERY day!!! #cuechat
A2: my board is 10 days until Boat Regatta and 5 days until Alien Launch, I think they are more excited for those events than the last day of school #cuechat
A2: Let's get real...I think it can go both ways, but better to phrase as "_ days left of learning together this year!" Kids are excited to advance to the next grade, so I don't think it's necessarily all negative. #cuechat
I'm with you on the inside 10 days, especially if there's fun attached to them. I used to do the "pop the balloon and see what fun thing we get to do that day" countdown w/ my 5th graders. They loved it. #cuechat
I Live Streamed it last year because so many teachers in our district wanted to come watch, it is hilarious but really is a great learning experience #cuechat
I can see this both ways. I don't do it anymore, but I used to think of it as only ____ many days left to teach them EVERYTHING for High School. That's why I stopped. It stressed me out. #cuechat
A2: It's an eyeroller for me. Can't stand it. I'm all for summer vacation, but this job is a calling. I'm about work-life fusion, not work-life balance. @kat_goyette#cuechat#ConnectedTL
Q2: I don’t have a count down. This is some kids’ safe place and I don’t want to add to anxiety about leaving. Plus, it’s more about what we do with the time, not how much is left. #cuechat
I love "work-life fusion". I'm all about how our self-talk affects us subconsciously. Fusion is a better way to see things than what "balance" conjures up. #cuechat
I hear that, Meghan. I KNOW many of my Ss were not excited about the uncertainty of summer & home life. Good to be mindful of all perspectives in the room. #cuechat
A2) I think it depends on the tone you set. A count down to end of school can mean whatever you make it...Do you maintain expectations and plan passion projects or celebrate the end of learning?? Choices #cuechat
A2: I absolutely love what @BethHouf has been doing with her school’s countdown. The numbers with a challenge, “hold 3 doors for someone” Its amazing stuff!! https://t.co/lDJ4E34nlW#cuechat
A2) i understand that people get excited about summer vacation and I also understand the end of year is a rite of passage to something new. With that said, I've never posted a countdown #cuechat
A3: I always loved making kites with my algebra students. Seeing them use measurement, scale, planning, and creativity...with a bit of problem solving and persistence always made me smile! #cuechat
A3: Today I used 2 #Eduprotocols 8 Parts Grammar and Worst Preso Ever...I would use all the protocols for end of year engagement. Plus, I would have a good handle on them to start 18-19! #cuechat
A3b: Working on a elem collab with 6th grade math. Elem kids ask questions on @Flipgrid while the 6th graders video comment back with explanations. #cuechat#ConnectedTL
We have been doing super fun speaking activities: impropmtu speeches, reader's theater, worst slide presentation ala @jcorippo . I finish the year with Genius Hour presentation so this helps! #cuechat
A3: Green screen film festival! I give my kids basic parameters of requirements then turned them loose with iPads and @doink and some green plastic table cloths. The last few days of school we watch everyone’s movies. So fun! #cuechat
A3: Loved @MITAppInventor for the home stretch. Having Ss build Android apps and downloading then to my phone was great. Watching their face as the app came to life, even better. #cuechat

A1) this year we are doing a science film festival for the kids. It's been fun and exciting. We bought little oscar award trophies and will make a red carpet #cuechat
A3: I like to do lessons that have them reflect. My 8th graders create playlists that describe their time in middle school. They each present one song, play it for the class and explain how it connects to their middle school life. Lots of laughs and tears. #cuechat
A3cont: Inspired by @jcorrippo I had an Iron Chef-like Social Studies Theme Park assignment they worked on as a culminating project together. Have a look if you’d like! https://t.co/FeELjlguww#cuechat
We use @BenchmarkEdu reader's theater and Ss created their own props, backgrounds, etc. to make it more fun and engaging beyond the script. They LOVED it and it kept them busy! Parents came to watch! #cuechat

Q3: Idea is to have students identify their strengths @thrively is free for the rest of the school year, then design goals for learning over the summer and report back during the next school year #dream#ConnectedTL#CUECHAT
I love Reader's Theater. I'm thinking combining that with my green screen film festival could be a fun remix! Then vids are available for parents to watch in case they can't make it to school to see live. #cuechat
I plan activities for the entire last week of school for the 8th graders. It makes it special, but I wish someone would take on 7th. But no one has the energy! #cuechat
A4: Sent an email out last week offering to coteach end of the year lessons and advertised it as an engaging way to end the year when the kids are squirrelly. My calendar is filling up quickly. #cuechat#ConnectedTL
A4: Any time you can unite the kids at a grade level, that is fun and takes the load off. Cross grade level activities are also winners. Let the kids become the teachers to younger kids. #CUEchat
A4:We are having a taco cart cater our staff party. Other than that, be nice to each other! Acknowledge that you see someone - especially when they may be visibly struggling or spiraling.Humor & compassion can be just the thing someone needs to help turn their day around #cuechat
A4: I try to maintain my enthusiasm, positivity and enthusiasm can be contagious. I also will send them fun new tech tools to try out or activities that get the kids up and moving around #cuechat
A4: we are doing school side design challenges. I also give ideas to try something new that they may have been scared to try before- try it now and work out the kinks for next year. #cuechat
A4b: Can't go wrong with the coffee drive thru window in the Cardinal Innovation Center. Open the window, reach in and pour a cup. #cuechat#ConnectedTL
A4) I could, I would do something crazy like get rid of classes for an hour or two and turn it into workshops. Make the school look like a conference #CUECHAT
A4C: Piloting a new badging system. I designed and printed out badges for 35 apps and programs our teachers use and we'll post them on class windows for display as they show proficiency. #cuechat#ConnectedTL
A4) If i could, I would do something crazy like get rid of classes for an hour or two and turn it into workshops. Make the school look like a conference #CUECHAT even get a "keynote" lol
A5: They should make sure as many students as possible have a fun, friendly nickname. This is proof of a rapport built with your students. #cuechat#ConnectedTL
A5:Purge!Give your classroom a minimalism makeover & get rid of all the clutter. You don’t need to hang on to all those folders/old student work/posters you haven’t hung up in years. Start your new year fresh with only the things that add value or that you actually need. #cuechat
A5: Give in to one thing you've said "no" to all year long, or something your Ss know you'd normally say no to.I let one of my kiddos stand on his chair & lip sync along to a (probably inappropriate) song into a pencil. He talks about it every time I see him #cuechat
A5: Clean out your inbox and organized your Drive! Ha! I totally love to "clean" up digitally! I'm one of those people who don't like the "red number" notification on my phone. #cuechat
I love the teacher report card. @MrVaudrey has some examples for Ts, coaches, & administrators to elicit feedback. And I love @cogswell_ben 's idea of posting the feedback publicly! Huge risk taking but optimal for growth! #cuechat
A5 coming in late here, Jesus from El Centro CA! Find three lessons: one that worked and fine tune it. Find one where you fell flat on your face and make changes. Finally find one that you didn't try and make it the first one you try! #CUECHAT

A4 promote the lessons and ideas that inspired creativity! Let them know they are not alone in trying new things! Offer support if they are hesitant to take a leap! #CUECHAT

A6: Celebrate something from each teacher to make them feel what they do doesn't go unnoticed. Brief exit interviews are good too. #cuechat#ConnectedTL
A6: Just like Ts should end with some kind of reflection on what worked/didn’t work, site leaders should meet and do the same. Leave in June with some kind of structure in mind on how you want to approach the new school year so you can hit the ground running in August. #cuechat
A6: set goals for next year, think of one thing that can you can work on to improve, plan a great family night to get the new school year started #cuechat
Find out what my colleagues were seeking out and didn't receive: PD, resources, equipment, etc. Then figure out how to get it into their hands! #CUECHAT
