I would teach them one from that book: Choose Kind. There is great power in showing compassion to others.

Agreed. It's also a bit pretentious for fifth graders. We come up with synonyms...
We start with Choose Kind but then the kids write their own as we go through the year.

Be Brave--try, don't quit, and always think. There is almost always more than one right answer in life. (Doesn't apply to testing!)

We talk a lot about growth mindset and grit. Third grade is not easy, you have to do the work.
