A1: I am not a coach, but for me a coach is a trusted ally who pushes me to be better, supports my attempts at new things, and helps celebrate successes #tosachat
A1 A coach is trusted, a listener, supportive, a resource, will push you and challenge you! A coach is not evaluative, out to get you, reporting back to others, here to fix all the things #tosachat
A1 a coach is someone who walks alongside...encouraging Ts to try new things + practice/play to learn and develop skills... always cheering and providing support as needed. #TOSAchat
A1: A coach is a teacher. A coach is a motivator. A coach builds on teacher strengths. A coach is not an administrator A coach does not do evaluations. A coach is not a mole or rat. #TOSAchat
A1: A coach is a thought partner, a servant leader, a change agent, empathetic, balanced between classroom needs & district needs, & always a teacher first. #tosachat

Q2: The day of a coach is like no other!
Coaches: Share ways you effectively meet the needs of various educators you serve.
Educators: Share ways a coach has helped to meet your needs. #TOSAchat
A1 A coach is someone who reflects and learns with you. Meeting you where you are at and helping your grow. A coach is NOT someone who comes in with their own agenda trying to change you into what they think you should be. #Tosachat

I replaced the Kinder computer today! Got a phone call at 5:30 from a staff "what do you do with the blue scree on the [kinder] computer". Someone went to fix my fix. Decided not to coach that over the phone. Tomorrow morning it is. #tosachat
A2 I co-teach with them. They know their classes better than I ever will. I try not to come with an agenda and will adapt to the class and the teacher. No two lessons are alike! #tosachat
It's super important, but also difficult with the many school needs, goals, demands, but teacher goals and challenges should come first with coaching. Helps to also build great relationships! #TOSAchat
Q2) I think we learn just as much from the people we coach as they learn from us. I bring my expertise and find ways to fit with their personal style. I can go in with a plan, but it will change based on our common experience with their students. #tosachat
A2: As a coach I try to be as flexible as possible and try to meet everyone where they are. To take inspiration from @cogswell_ben latest podcast I also try to follow the feedback cycle. #TOSAChat

A2: As a coach (at least in Israel) I try to understand the Ts need and work together with them to get personalized PD. As a T - a coach that really helped me showed me tools I can practically use in class tomorrow. #TOSAchat
Q2: I go from grade 12s writing essays on computers to grade 7s using Chromebooks to program robots to grade 6s using iPads to do sort pictures of angles in math to grade 2s using iPads to record their voice to practice reading. #allinadayswork#bestjobinthedistrict#TOSAChat
A2 I play both roles daily. One minute Iām teaching my ELs and the next minute Iām helping a colleague with a tech issue. Tough to separate the two. #tosachat
A2: I'm constantly looking for ways to make their lives easier. Any tool I can find to simplify their workflow or better empower students is welcomed. I usually lead with coffee. #TOSAchat

Being available and able to help teachers apply technology in New ways to their lessons, and helping them plan engaging lessons... It doesn't get better than that. #TOSAChat
Q3: Coaching is so rewarding!
Coaches: What has been your most memorable moment as a coach?
Educators: What has been your most memorable moment with a coach?

A2 First step - I try to be available. @Calendly helps me share when I'm available, allows teachers to pick a time with me and allows me to dedicate the time to a teacher who requested it. #tosachat

Hi Jornea, we often co-teach and that starts with co-analyzing student work, co-planning, then co-teaching. We ask teachers what coaching they prefer...whisper in ear, micro-modeling, jump in when needed. #tosachat
A2 (con't) and I try to be a good, focused listener. That means putting away distractions and paying attention to what the teacher is really asking. Someone said that we need to hear the request within the complaint... that's a good one! #tosachat
A3: Just last week, I heard students in the hallway bragging about getting their work featured on my website. They were students of teachers I haven't work with directly. Affirmation that my work has been spreading. #TOSAchat

A3 Hmmm most memorable moment. When my colleague brought her students' work to myself and our other coach SO excited because of the success she had with their writing. They were using a thematic unit we created together. #tosachat

I don't think I have a "most memorable" moment, but I will say that when I have teachers contact me to tell me all about how they are using what we worked on together and students are benefitting from it, that's such a great sense of accomplishment! #tosachat

A3 So many! To me the most rewarding part of coaching is when I see people soaring above and beyond after I meet with them once or twice. It shows that learning happened, not just a one-time ācoolā event. #TOSAChat
@EdTechAri & @EdCoachSarah have coached me from day 1 in all that I am. They inspire, uplifts#, and empower. They know when to support and when to scaffold. #tosachat

A3: most memorable moment with a coach was when th tables were turned and I got to help @Cbustamante2222 with her SBAC training presentation. š #tosachat
A1. I think the role of a coach is one who stands behind rather than in front. The support teachers in personal growth rather than dictating it. #tosachat
A3: I still tell stories from @SRyan3rdgradeās class, all good. My fave is that day she said āyouāre a 3rd grader now, #ProblemSolveThat!ā Talk about walking the #StudentEmpowerment walk. She LIVES that. And you can tell by how independent her Ss become #TOSAChat

I agree. Some Ts have a misconception about my roll and walls have been built that shouldnāt be there. Working with admin to be clear about our duties this upcoming year. #tosachat
I coach uniquely because my job is one where I am an instructional coach/support system for Ts using our app. I really love being able to ask 2 questions to our teachers: 1) What do you need? 2) How can we create exactly what you want? #tosachat
A4: Teachers seeing me as admin. Admin not supporting tech integration. The idea that edtech is one more thing on their plate. As @JoeMarquez70 says "It is the plate!" #ditchthatfear#TOSAchat

Q4: huge barrier; the frequency with which not only the technology I work with changes, but also the policies and milieu around the tech! #frustratingforusall#TOSAChat
A4 Connectivity issues, budget difficulties, and time issues sometimes are enough to make colleagues give up. Trying to get them to see past the problems can be challenging. #tosachat
It's almost midnight here on the east coast and I need to get some rest to be ready to coach tomorrow! Love the conversation as always! #tosachat I hope to see a lot of you at #ISTE18 this summer!!
Hey #tosachat ... hope itās going great! If your a so-cal local Iād be grateful if you let your new teachers &/or student teachers know about the free conference May 8 from 4-6pm in Irvine... register at https://t.co/NLGFPP10Kn#payitforwardEdu
We totally have to hang out at #ISTE18@kat_goyette and I always reference your crowdsourced who to follow spreadsheet when we co-present on Twitter and growing your PLN #TOSAchat
Q4) One of the biggest barriers to overcome in coaching, I find, is getting sufficient time to plan with teachers, in a way that values their time. We can get creative, but it is always appreciated when admin support our coaching cycles by facilitating release time. #tosachat
Q3: Connection is what's all about! As a C, connecting with Ts, and as a T, connecting with Ss. Authentic relationships are what's all about! #tosachat
Can't agree more. Just like our students we are all at different places in our learning. Why not provide PD that embraces where we are and allows for collaboration to learn from each other. #TOSAchat

In which ways do you leverage technology, including social media to help other educators grow? #TOSAchat
And when I mentioned the gift of time that means to give each teacher the time they need. Each person needs different amount of time.
And also, focused uninterrupted time with undivided attention. Thatās the gift part of it. #tosachat

A5 This #TOSAChat community has made a tremendous impact on me as a TOSA and as a teacher. Same is true for my #ditchbook, #hyperdocs and #flipgrid families. I'm so lucky to have an incredible PLN. This year @mandi_smithml has been a HUGE source of support at my site.
I <3 it!! I miss my classroom and Ss, but teachers need heroes, too. I love being part of helping them be their best teacher self by simply empowering them! It's a rich experience in an empty time. #tosachat
Q5: We are superheros, but even superheros need each other.

A5 Using Twitter a lot to showcase the awesome things Ts and Ss are doing. Seeing others out if their comfort zone and being successful is powerful. #tosachat
A5 OMG I used @twitter and @Flipgrid to grow a PLN and apply for a job. @KarlyMoura has been like a big sis. I have NEVER met her face to face but feel like we are family through our twitter interactions. #tosachat

I have 9 schools. Next year I'm supposed to be more heavily focusing on 6 of them and being true to cycles. Regardless, I can't abandon the other 3, and admin are wondering how I will be able to effectively carry out coaching cycles. I'm wondering the same thing. #tosachat
Not at the moment. We are hoping to get the other coaches (who focus more on instruction rather than ed tech) to help with what I bring to the table so we share the load just a little bit. #tosachat
Creating Hyperdocs that allow for choice. Give options for those who are just learning the topic all the way to extending learning on that specific topic. Then share out our Aha Aha's at the end! #tosachat

So, in my district, every school has an instructional coach. I'm the only one who is ed tech focused. So if I can get all the coaches to pick up what I'm putting down, we'd be in good shape. But then I'd be a coach coach, no? #tosachat
#tosachat A5: I love that I can have ongoing asynchronous dialogue with my people through Voxer and Allo. I can drop comments and questions and vents through the day, and my peeps do the same. Love my edtechfamily tribe!

sidetracked half-way through #tosachat...sorry to miss out on the last half of chat! Thank you @Savvy_Educator for a great chat! I need to bail early...catch you all on the flipside!
A5: Of course Flipping teachers onto the bird is number one, but also getting teachers to realize the power of social media in the classroom. Having students document their work in a social media like platform is a game changer for all involved #tosachat
A6: Make friends with other coaches. Find places where you can fly high... Make friends with those who are willing to go for it and get them to help you spread the good word #flipgridfever#tosachat
I am in a #slowflipchat and I have created the BEST PLN for that. @Flipgrid has been so amazing with opening so many doors. I have been using it for PD and retirements. Its the best!!! #tosachat

I love this goal! I'm working on implementing PLCs and PLPs into our EdTech co. right now! I was just talking with fellow teachers about how the best Ts/admin are lifelong learners themselves. GREAT idea! #tosachat
A5) We are mostly in classrooms now, doing deep coaching dives. We are trying to rethink what it might be to do large scale content trainings that integrate UDL, Tech, & ELL strategies & are supported by deep coaching cycles. Social Media PLN's are part of that plan #tosachat
Yes, I THRIVE with people. I am always hunting down collaboration. That is how I found Twitter. People in my site didnāt want to collaborate so I found people here! #tosachat
