Is such an honor to facilitate great conversation about cultivating wonder and whimsy using technology during tonight's #WonderChat! Welcome, everyone!
Carol ELA Consultant and @Wonderopolis Wonder Lead Ambassador here waiting for #WonderChat to begin with @EdTechMason! I'm ready to talk about Cultivating Wonder and Whimsy Using Technology.
I am so impressed with what you do with your kinders. It shows the world that Kindergarteners can become young poets when they notice and wonder about nature, Christie. #WonderChat#TeachWrite

A1 Technology is a tool to engage students in learning. Wonder and whimsy are present when passions are ignited. Tech is the fuel to light the fire. #WonderChat

A1: Tech removes such barriers of exploration and curiosity that give way to wonder & whimsy! Tech gives our learners equitable access to this wonderful world of ours! #wonderchat
A1: It's great to be able to show Ss how to harness a tool to work for them...to use the global access to shift mindsets and create movements of change. #WonderChat
Q1: kids need to know that they have so many ways to explore their talents -technology is part of that toolbox - thrilled this past week to see 12 year old composing music w/@soundtrap - writing from home of @rockhall Cleveland OH #wonderchat

A1) I'm not sure if tech drives the wonder 🤔 I think WONDER drives the tech! Kids find ways to use tech if it's available to them and if it's valued as an important tool to help deepen learning. I just think using tech helps the world feel smaller and I love that. #wonderchat

I love “helps the world feel smaller”! Kids can communicate and learn with others across the world with a simple click. All the things I ever wondered about as a student are at my fingertips now #WonderChat
A2: the environment is really the people, interactions, laughter, learning, wonder , tech is merely a tool enhancing & deepening the learning of engaged individuals #WonderChat
A2: It's all about honoring a learner's autonomy and emphasizing that the tech is merely the tool but they are the masters of their own curiosity journeys #wonderchat
A2: We get more of what we focus on and bring attention to...our celebrations need to bring more attention to the risk, the wondering, the excitement of the unknown! #WonderChat
A2: Put the computers away and give ss materials to explore, investigate, observe, and play with! Make them solve problems and be creative! #wonderchat
A2: It's all about honoring a learner's autonomy and emphasizing that the tech is merely the tool but they are the masters of their own curiosity journeys #wonderchat
A2: I actually think it's amazing when people SEE the power of tech. I feel like a lot Ts want it to be invisible. I think when people see kids and tech working together they can see the best kind of wonder happen. I actually wonder about the tech ALL THE TIME. #wonderchat
A2: it’s about what the emphasis is placed upon. Is the primary objective wonder or technology?? If the focus is tech than the wonder may be invisible and we can’t have that! #WonderChat
Technology isn’t “one more thing” anymore, it’s just a part of our lives. Remember the first time you saw an iPhone? Everyone in the room crowded around it. Now, everyone has it or something similar at all times. Integrate tech and it becomes invisible #WonderChat
A2 So as @thelivbits said it really is a 2-way street. My K Ss wonder about lots of things and one avenue to pursue is through tech. They can create & share new learning through tech or they can be inspired by @Wonderopolis Wonders of the Day and then proceed offline. #WonderChat
A2: Cont. like How does that app work like that? How can I code this? What's the most amazing app to amplify my thinking? How can this tech show the world how amazing kids are. Stuff like that. That's my brain. 🤪 #wonderchat
Dear @Wonderopolis, I am doing this chat to avoid ratio math homework. Please write me a note saying this is more important. Thank you, Liv #wonderchat
A2 Since tech is a tool to ignite the flame of wonder & curiosity, it is a motivator and works alongside the passion of teachers and students in an environment of trust and engagement. #WonderChat

A3: I talk so much about @nearpod 😅but I really love it as a platform for building a community of wonder-ers. Learners construct inquiries & ask questions of each other as we explore different topics in our texts #wonderchat
A3: I'll be including @Wonderopolis in my Green Screen session this spring...encouraging Ss to immerse themselves in their interests and wonders! #WonderChat#r12digin

A3 My @Wonderopolis peeps know how addicted by K Ss are to @BirdSleuth and @BirdCams. They both stoke the fire of our ornithological curiosity. They then inspire us to whimsically create using high tech, low tech, and no tech. #WonderChat

It goes two ways--our students' world is tech based and drives their wonder and whimsy, but their wonder also drives the technology choices we make #WonderChat
A3: @Wonderopolis is our go to question source. We were reading “Nothing Ever Happens on 90th Street” and a student wanted to know what a soap opera was....#wonderchat
A3: I am also OBSESSED with slime making. I love to follow vlogs that teach me how to make new kinds of slime. Kids would love links on a @padlet with slime ideas! Also, @MacLeodydays I AM WAITING FOR THE WONDER DUST!!!! #needforslime#wonderchat
A4: Augmented Reality is on the uptick...just today I noticed @Target created a way for you to “see” your Christmas 🎄 in your house before buying...what if I could “see” my wonder in my classroom?? #Wonderchat
And that's us with @BirdSleuth and @BirdCams. They help us go deeper with our interests! Plus @wonderopolis has a ton of bird wonders that stock our Kindergarten fires. #WonderChat

A2: Create the environment where wonder gets the emphasis and tech comes into play alongside it. Give importance to student wonders by giving them student choice & voice in incorporating the wonders into our class. #WonderChat

A4 I'm with all of you, the possibilities for #ARVRinEDU to cultivate wonder and whimsy in the classroom are endless. I'm currently loving the @ARMakrApp. #WonderChat
A4: While I was @masscue#MassCue18 as a keynote, I got to do a VR/AR experience w/ @mbfxc@JaimeDonally. It had scary clowns and I didn't sleep for weeks. While I was @TheSharkCenter this past summer, I swam w/ sharks virtually. That didn't scare me a bit! #wonderchat
A3:Love using @dogonews in conjunction with @Wonderopolis to create space for more wonder and exploration. Currents events can get them more plugged into the world around them. #WonderChat

A5 I just heard a great line and said to @Owl_b_TorresEdu that I needed to capture her line. "What if I could “see” my wonder in my classroom." That line has me thinking of what will follow? #TeachWrite#WonderChat
A5: the connections to wonder andnaccess to wonder each help deepen student learning. It makes the wonder real!! When learning is real it gets deep! #WonderChat
A5: wonder& whimsy is where you get true engagement. Following ones Curiosity leads you to finding your passion. Provide opportunities for Ss to wonder @ stuff, and you have an engaged life-long learner! #WonderChat
A5 When students are allowed to break down the four walls of their classroom with technology and let their imaginations soar, wonder and whimsy can lead to experiences they may not have otherwise had. #WonderChat
A5: To me there isn't really learning without wonder. If kids aren't wondering, it's probably b/c they aren't interested. Kids will learn more when they can make loads & loads of Qs about a topic they love. And to me you end up w/ more wonders in the end than answers. #wonderchat

A5: Wonder can deepen learning, especially if the answer isn't found right away...if the learning is a journey that we have to go on to find the answer we seek...the fulfillment that we feel when our wonderings lead to more than we ever imagined! #WonderChat
A5 Just today we were observing birds in Panama eating bananas on @BirdCams. My curious Kindergarteners were FASCINATED @ the birds, the weather, the environment, & kept running to our classroom window to compare what they could see at our feeder station. Priceless! #WonderChat

As a child I loved the show Unsolved Mysteries...I remember after the show coming up with my own reasonings of what ea mystery meant or what happened. #WonderChat
A6 Think of technology as your co-teacher, not a guest speaker. Let it support and amplify you and your students, not take over and go all diva on you! #WonderChat
That’s what we are all working for. Kids learn something they’re interested about, which leads to them wondering about other aspects of what they’re learning. This leads to deeper understanding and DOK. Learning leads to wonder and vice versa #WonderChat
A6 I'm so glad to see so many educators who are wonder and whimsy warriors using technology to foster creativity, curiosity, and innovation in the classroom. Keep up the good fight! #WonderChat
A6 I am going to continue my quest to spread the power of tech as the motivator to ignite the flames of wonder and curiosity. I am just about ready to start designing #AbundantAutumn Global Gallery of Artistic Expressions. Stay tuned. #WonderChat
@WymansWonders Great thought to end Q6 Christie. Tech is our co-teacher not the diva and certainly not the curriculum. It is the igniter of wonder. #WonderChat
