Q1: How does your district use national or state approved educational leadership standards to set expectations for school leader performance? #PrinLeaderChat
A1: School ADvance is our guiding framework. To be honest, it is complex and not user friendly with APs. It does however focus our work as we self assess and pick 3 areas of focus annually. #prinleaderchat

#Prinleaderchat A2: There will always be priorities that the districts will focus on, every year. the standards allow them to pinpoint the specific skills leaders need to focus on to achieve the desired change.
A2: I believe when vision/mission aligns with standards align AND use principal’s strengths, there is ownership and higher “return” on investment. #prinleaderchat

#PrinLeaderchat If you have standards for what you are looking for when hiring principals then interview questions can be developed to determine the match.
Q4: Were you pleased with your preparation to be a principal? Was the prep program aligned to national standards for educational leadership? #PrinLeaderChat
#PrinLeaderchat Strength Finder is terrific. We use it with education leaders in our Executive Leadership Program. It helps the leader focus on strengths to accomplish work. .
The alignment is essential. Determine the skills and knowledge needed for the position and interview accordingly. There should be clear expectations of what the position will be and what will be needed to accomplish the work. #PrinLeaderchat
#Prinleaderchat A4: SO much has changed in the 10 years since I was in grad school. No longer are we just managers. Being an instructional leader and someone that loves being with and around the kids is what and who we need to be. Here's hoping that teacher training is updating 2
A4: Had great academic preparation at @MichiganStateU and @LibertyU but the best preparation of all has been experience and working through things that weren’t in the textbook!

Q5: When you are evaluated by your supervisor are you measured on competencies aligned with the district/state standards? Do you receive on-the-job support to improve your performance following the evaluation? #PrinLeaderChat
Preparation is changing. I work at a university and districts are telling us what they need and we are listening. @WallaceFdn is working with 7 universities to redesign programs. #PrinLeaderchat
