Interested in student-driven classrooms? Join Dr. Nancy Sulla @nsulla (author of Students Taking Charge, Its Not What You Teach But How, Building Executive Function: The Missing Link to Student Achievement, and more) and educators from all over in #LATICchat on Thursday nights at 8pm ET. We hope to bring together a community of educators to share insights, stories, examples, pictures from their classrooms, and more. We welcome all educators to join; no need to be running a #LATIC classroom.
Dr. Nancy Sulla here at #LATICchat!!! Woo hoo! Creator of the Learner-Active, Technology-Infused Classroom (#LATIC) New versions of STC are just around the corner!
I like that! The ancient civs gave us roads, paper, eye makeup, democratic government, marathons ... good for seeing how far we've come and where we could go! #LATICchat
A1 I see it as on opportunity to see ss work through the design process to come up with solutions to problems. It’s more than just the content that the letters stand for it’s about bringing the 4Cs to life in an engaging way #LATICchat
Love this, @marjan_perry ... leveraging home groups and table journals in your #LATIC - check it out, @joelholtry - we just talked about this! :-) @Mrgarrettrox - you may want to connect with Marjan - 5th grade teachers unite! #LATICchat
A2 STEM becomes the vehicle that we use to drive the soft skills that we need to develop while also ensure that we hit key content. I think like LATIC is not just something that we do as teachers it’s how we teach so is STEM it’s a way to connect skills and content #LATICchat

A3 those concepts are present in many other subjects. We explore patterns in math and even in reading. Cause and effect is present in all subjects and important to understand in humanities. #LATICchat
A3 I'd love to see the crosscutting concepts posted on classroom walls so that Ss and Ts could refer to them all day every day... so many connections! #LATICchat
A3) Love the cross-cutting concepts ... you can find them in any subject! And they, too, relate to #executivefunction skills. We need to rise up from the standards and go beyond ... teach the level of thinking the standards content demands! #LATICchat
A4 it starts with ss seeing that technology doesn’t automatically =digital. Tech makes lives easier, work faster, improves things. Technology is the fruit of innovation that comes from a felt need to solve a real problem #LATICchat
A4 the importance of tech is not on what the tech is but what the tech is used for. It should not be the centerpiece but the vehicle for students amazing ideas and vision.

A6 design thinking cannot happen if there is not an open mindset to education. If you see students as receptacle of knowledge, there is no further design thinking can go.
#LATICchat
A6 design thinking should be the back bone of ss thinking. It embeds the idea that we search for a solution, try it out, and then improve it. It’s a road map for growth mindset and reminds ss that there is no perfect #LATICchat
Q7: Thinking like a mathematician involves using the mathematical practices. How can you use the mathematical practices in any content area? #LATICchat
A7) I introduced the class to gallery walks today. They gave each other feedback and learned a lot about the importance of precision in your work. #LATICchat
A7 the math practices provided transparency to engage ss in meta cognitive skills. Learners check their work, use the right tool for the job, make sure their answer makes senses... these practices work in all subjects #LATICchat
A8 ts need to better understand STEM and use it to reinforce 21st century skills and not just as fun activities from time to time. Shift your mindset, shift your practice almost any topic can become a STEM activity #LATICchat
