A2: BSBS is simply ensuring that every students knows and meets standards by knowing where they are and where they need to go. #wcedchat
  • Meussa73 Jun 5 @ 9:16 PM EDT
A2: The Ss grade should match what they know, not anything else. #wcedchat
  • KirbieDMacary Jun 5 @ 9:16 PM EDT
A2: Three-Tiered "by student" system that starts with core standard instruction; "Tier 1," gives opportunities for specific instruction or interventions: "Tier 2," & then a small group of SS that need an "intensive" instructional scenario for standards at "Tier 3." #wcedchat
  • gozia_s Jun 5 @ 9:16 PM EDT
A2: Instruction tailored to fit individual needs on specific standards. Ss receive remediation, on grade level, or enrichment instruction based on student need #wcedchat
  • WebbCityELL Jun 5 @ 9:16 PM EDT
A2: BSBS is all about meeting each S where he/she is at. We take a look at a specific standard & develop interventions (tier 1/2/3) to move the Ss from where they are in their understanding of the standard to the next level, sometimes going beyond the standard boundary #wcedchat
  • CoachMarySears Jun 5 @ 9:16 PM EDT
A2: Knowing "students by standards" is like recipes by ingredients. Each recipe is different, and as you create the recipe or the student's knowledge, you realize they might need a little more of this ingredient or a little less of this standard. #wcedchat
  • kaycards Jun 5 @ 9:16 PM EDT
A2: You monitor every Ss for every objective and see what 3 categories they fall in to:1) continue w/instruction 2)pull out to groups some type of remediation 3)small groups or 1-1 setting for reinforcement. Levels change for every Ss as indicators/objectives change #wcedchat
  • PeekSharon Jun 5 @ 9:16 PM EDT
Sharon Peek signing in from our front yard enjoying the evening. #wcedchat
  • cathydgeorge Jun 5 @ 9:17 PM EDT

  • MeganGlaubitz Jun 5 @ 9:17 PM EDT
Q2: Students are given a pretest on a skill. Score pretest using a 3, 2, or 1. 3's will be challenged with skill, 2's will get further grade level instruction, 1's will go back to basics on skill. #wcedchat
  • Fancying4th - Moderator Jun 5 @ 9:17 PM EDT

  • ThorntonWcr7 Jun 5 @ 9:26 PM EDT
A3: use small fire to have students with similar readiness levels help each other advance. Peer tutoring/helping often gives the same information using Ss language. #wcedchat
  • Meussa73 Jun 5 @ 9:26 PM EDT
A3: SBG, It's ok to not be perfect. Nothing in the GB that is NOT part of the curriculum. #wcedchat
  • WebbCityELL Jun 5 @ 9:26 PM EDT
A3: using data to make decisions, groupings, stations/centers, differentiated/leveled tasks, co-teaching, assessing for understanding of individual standards often because this is how you know who needs what #wcedchat
  • CoachMarySears Jun 5 @ 9:26 PM EDT
A3: Tiered activities using DI, hands on activities to see what the Ss truly know, readiness activities like corners or red, yellow, green card to show where each S is on standard. #wcedchat
  • cathydgeorge Jun 5 @ 9:27 PM EDT
A3 Having lessons in video format allow Ss to move through content at their own pace. Pause as needed, watch sections again, play the video at 1.5x speed to move forward faster, etc. #wcedchat
  • MeganGlaubitz Jun 5 @ 9:27 PM EDT
Q3: I am usually with the students that do not have a standard mastered. I try to use manipulatives or games to help move them up. #wcedchat
  • Fancying4th - Moderator Jun 5 @ 9:27 PM EDT
A3 Small group instruction based on feedback (usually formative assessment) from what students can or can not do "yet". #wcedchat
  • kaycards Jun 5 @ 9:27 PM EDT
Yeah, this is my answer too :) #wcedchat
    • ThorntonWcr7 Jun 5 @ 9:26 PM EDT
A3: use small fire to have students with similar readiness levels help each other advance. Peer tutoring/helping often gives the same information using Ss language. #wcedchat
  • KortneyLandrith Jun 5 @ 9:27 PM EDT
A3 knowing where your Ss are always at on a standard and using that information to change groupings, stations, and small group work #wcedchat
  • kristin_h91 Jun 5 @ 9:28 PM EDT
A3: I use task boxes and adapted book pieces. They are the best! #wcedchat
  • gozia_s Jun 5 @ 9:28 PM EDT
A3: formative assessments, co-teaching, small rotating groups, spending a ton of time with Ss data, conferring with Ss, setting Ss goals #wcedchat
  • _mrsdrakesclass Jun 5 @ 9:30 PM EDT

  • RobynTrueblood Jun 5 @ 9:30 PM EDT
A.3 Having students set goals and working in small groups. #wcedchat
  • tmoe39 - Moderator Jun 5 @ 9:33 PM EDT
A3 For an in-depth “how to” check with @gozia_s @jjanshelley or other Mark Twain Ts to see the online module they created #wcedchat
    • gozia_s Jun 5 @ 9:28 PM EDT
A3: formative assessments, co-teaching, small rotating groups, spending a ton of time with Ss data, conferring with Ss, setting Ss goals #wcedchat
  • mmhendrick Jun 5 @ 9:35 PM EDT
  • KassieGail Jun 5 @ 9:35 PM EDT
A3: Students setting and monitoring their own goals #wcedchat
  • WebbCityELL Jun 5 @ 9:36 PM EDT
A4: Great question! When we know where each S is, our instruction improves because we become so intentional. When our Ss are also aware of where they are, they can make decisions about their own learning and take charge. Ss definitely need to be part of the convo #wcedchat
  • ThorntonWcr7 Jun 5 @ 9:36 PM EDT
a4: Ss need to know what is expected of them and then allow them choice on how they get there. Coaching them to provide proper evidence of their learning is essential. #wcedchat
  • Meussa73 Jun 5 @ 9:36 PM EDT
A4: Ss that know what they need to learn begin with the end in mind, they set a goal, I help them get there. #wcedchat
  • Fancying4th - Moderator Jun 5 @ 9:37 PM EDT
A4 Ss understand what they need to work on and ask themselves how they might get better. @KortneyLandrith shared an example with me. Her K Ss work towards a goal and ask to be tested again. #powerofownership #wcedchat
  • cathydgeorge Jun 5 @ 9:37 PM EDT
A4 Student ownership can lead to self-directed learning which frees the teacher up to focus on others needing assistance #wcedchat
  • tmoe39 - Moderator Jun 5 @ 9:37 PM EDT
A3 it was always fun to watch 1st Gr Ss unpacking standards in @_mrsdrakesclass Amazing what our Ss can do! #wcedchat
    • _mrsdrakesclass Jun 5 @ 9:30 PM EDT
A3: setting objectives (I think unpacking these with Ss is muy bueno beneficial) providing feedback (what needs to be done/learned to meet objective, practice, and small group instruction #wcedchat
  • Fancying4th - Moderator Jun 5 @ 9:38 PM EDT
I love this. I read recently that the choice is not wide open but in small choices Ss can handle. This may have been in Innovators Mindset. #wcedchat
    In reply to @ThorntonWcr7
  • KortneyLandrith Jun 5 @ 9:41 PM EDT
A4 Including Ss in the assessment process so they know why I’m asking them to do things. Also talk about whether or not they got it and set a goal to achieve if they didn’t get it yet. Then knowing they are working together to learn the same skills in their small group #wcedchat
  • Fancying4th - Moderator Jun 5 @ 9:42 PM EDT
I love the "I help them get there"!!! There's not a better profession around than one that helps Ss reach their goals (dreams). #wcedchat
    • Meussa73 Jun 5 @ 9:36 PM EDT
A4: Ss that know what they need to learn begin with the end in mind, they set a goal, I help them get there. #wcedchat
  • mmhendrick Jun 5 @ 9:45 PM EDT
  • WebbCityELL Jun 5 @ 9:46 PM EDT
A5: If we don't know the elements that make up a standard, how are we to know when it has been achieved? Unpacking is like laying out the roadmap to achievement. We can see exactly where we are and what we need to do next to get to the end goal #wcedchat
  • ThorntonWcr7 Jun 5 @ 9:46 PM EDT
A5: packing Standards allows both Ts and Ss to know not only the standard but how it is expected to be mastered (recall through application). Always start with the end in mind. #wcedchat
  • Meussa73 Jun 5 @ 9:46 PM EDT
A5: When the standard is divided into units, objectives, indicators and essentials everyone knows what must be done. It helps us all stay on track for success. #wcedchat
  • MeganGlaubitz Jun 5 @ 9:47 PM EDT
Q5: At MT we have seen tremendous success with our RtI since we started using the by student by standard model. Very few of our students that start the skill at a 1 stay a 1! As teachers, we know exactly what the students need to learn when we unpack the standards. #wcedchat
  • CoachMarySears Jun 5 @ 9:47 PM EDT
A5: Understanding the standard helps see what level the S can truly know the standard. Back to my analogy of recipes, if you don't even have a recipe, you cannot change the ingredients. If S can explain the standard, even better! #wcedchat
  • cathydgeorge Jun 5 @ 9:47 PM EDT
A5 A benefit is it is easier to see specifically where students need more support. A more focused path to the target rather than shooting in the general direction and hoping for the best. #wcedchat
  • tmoe39 - Moderator Jun 5 @ 9:47 PM EDT
    Well said! #wcedchat
  • Fancying4th - Moderator Jun 5 @ 9:48 PM EDT
A5 Unpacking standards enables the learner to take a close look at the standard so they understand what evidence is needed to show learning. #wcedchat
  • tmoe39 - Moderator Jun 5 @ 9:48 PM EDT
A5 are you and Katy reading the same book?:) #wcedchat
    • ThorntonWcr7 Jun 5 @ 9:46 PM EDT
A5: packing Standards allows both Ts and Ss to know not only the standard but how it is expected to be mastered (recall through application). Always start with the end in mind. #wcedchat
  • ThorntonWcr7 Jun 5 @ 9:49 PM EDT
No, great minds just think alike. It must have been the training we get at WC. #wcedchat
    In reply to @tmoe39
  • _mrsdrakesclass Jun 5 @ 9:50 PM EDT
A5: Ss know the end goal, understand the small goals needed to master the overall goal. Start small End large! #wcedchat
  • tmoe39 - Moderator Jun 5 @ 9:51 PM EDT
A5 so if they don’t know what the recipe means they can’t bake the cake?
#wcedchat
  • mmhendrick Jun 5 @ 9:52 PM EDT
#wcedchat Just realized all my replies and retweets didn't have the hashtag, sorry guys if you didn't see them
  • KortneyLandrith Jun 5 @ 9:52 PM EDT
A5 It gives Ss purpose to work toward the end goal and keeps Ts focused on the purpose #wcedchat
  • mmhendrick Jun 5 @ 9:55 PM EDT
  • Meussa73 Jun 5 @ 9:56 PM EDT
A6: I think I should give more options of ways to demonstrate knowledge. #wcedchat
  • ThorntonWcr7 Jun 5 @ 9:56 PM EDT
A6: Transparency is key. Ss need to know what is expected at the beginning, middle, and end of the project. #wcedchat
  • cathydgeorge Jun 5 @ 9:57 PM EDT
A6 I had never heard the phrase "by student by standard" until this chat. The idea supports the redesign already in the works for some of my courses next year and has given me a clearer mental image what classes will look like. #wcedchat
  • WebbCityELL Jun 5 @ 9:58 PM EDT
    Hooray! #wcedchat
    • cathydgeorge Jun 5 @ 9:57 PM EDT

  • _mrsdrakesclass Jun 5 @ 9:58 PM EDT
A6: unpacking standards helps Ss understand goals so they can set goals and monitor progress and make goals that are by student by standard. Yes! Yes! Yes! #wcedchat
  • _mrsdrakesclass Jun 5 @ 9:59 PM EDT
Thank you for joining #wcedchat this evening! We are glad you were here! Have a wonderful rest of the week!
  • WebbCityELL Jun 5 @ 9:59 PM EDT
Clarity helps both teachers and students be intentional in their approach to achievement #wcedchat
  • KortneyLandrith Jun 5 @ 9:59 PM EDT
A6 including Ss in looking at the standards and how to get there is important for better understanding #wcedchat
  • Fancying4th - Moderator Jun 5 @ 10:00 PM EDT
What a great #wcedchat! Thanks @mmhendrick and @_mrsdrakesclass for facilitating and creating such thought provoking questions. I love learning together and getting better together.
