Q1 How do you define authentic learning?
-
So would you equate it to connecting to prior knowledge?
-
If something feels authentic(relevant, useful, practical etc) to us as learners, whatever our age, I feel it's almost always an extension to what we either already were aware of or had some idea about. So yes, there is a connect to prior knowledge.
-
A1 I think of it as connecting to the world of the students. does a great job w/ this in UOIs. Math/Economics taught thru Ss developing "stores" or services.
-
Q2 Why do you think authentic learning experiences are important or not important?
-
A2 it does help with the when are we ever going to use this in the real world question
-
A2 they are also great at getting students interested
